00:05two four eight five three nine ninety seven ninety seven it's karshan anderson here on 97.1
00:11kang has been following the terryon arnold um bond hearing i feel like i'm court tv back here
00:16man the way today is easily and i'm just like a court tv you know all screens all monitors it
00:23feels like it i get it man center so what's what's the story with uh terryon's trial all
00:29right with terryon's trial right now i gotta be honest just following online here and it looks
00:34like he might be out on bond like he it comes down to a lot of times we know this
00:39in the court system
00:39guys how good is your lawyer he's lawyered up very well and he's making the prosecution look like
00:44they have kind of a weak case here he uh yeah judge seems to be very hard on the prosecutor
00:50to be honest
00:51with you yeah so uh yeah terryon arnold might be out of jail today that doesn't mean the charges are
00:57dropped or anything like that but just as far as being able to to go home interesting uh we'll
01:02update you when there's any breaking news on that front let's go to rob in detroit hi rob
01:09how y'all doing today okay so d i have a question no no i need y'all help i
01:15wonder i want to kind of
01:16like manipulate this this uh contract with uh uh with your boy duran so do you think that is it
01:25possible that they can negotiate with him like sal i really want to keep you so we do a 30
01:31million
01:32dollars uh maybe this year if you improve in the contract then it says that the cut that the money
01:40will go up even more as you continue to improve is that possible an incentive deal you really don't
01:47see those but i mean i think they make all the sense in the world that players don't sign those
01:51because they want the guarantee and you know their agents aren't going to steer them in that
01:56direction um you know it's a decision a player makes really when they're going into free agency
02:01to bet on themselves to not take a deal if they want to bet on themselves and they'll you know
02:05get
02:06something in free agency afterwards but this is different i i don't think that that would be the
02:10case here no okay we just don't see those deals you can't i mean they do happen and it would
02:17be up
02:17to the player well the player accept an incentive laden deal look in sports one thing that i think
02:22all fans would agree on is you should get paid for how you are performing players like guarantees
02:31they hold out for guarantees owners give guarantees if you were to make everything incentive laden it
02:37feels like well we wouldn't get as mad about overpays or players that are performing below what their
02:44contract says they should be performing but owners give them out and players accept them and a player
02:50can say i don't want a incentivated contract and seek a guaranteed contract elsewhere but i get i get
02:58where you're coming from i mean yeah it would be great uh wes at school in school craft is next
03:04hello wes
03:04hi hey yeah i was talking to you before about uh the one thing i would do if i was
03:13general manager
03:13of the tigers is i would hire or fire the hitting coach and the two assistant hitting coaches
03:19the detroit is 25th out of 30 in major league batting average and that's that's not going to get
03:26you anywhere so what do you know about the hitting coach's culpability i don't know i looked
03:34online and there's a hitting coach and two assistant coaches and also i'm saying when you're 25 out of
03:3930 in major league baseball uh they're just not doing it right um you know you have film to review
03:46you review with them in the cage you go over uh you know the past when they're hitting good uh
03:51you do
03:52everything you can to uh help the hitters hit and when you're 25 out of 30 you're not doing your
03:58job
03:58so i mean i guess they they we know we don't know what the message is being sent to the
04:04hitters
04:04what they're emphasizing we know that scott harris is a big fan of dominating the strike zone he wants
04:10his hitters to be able to draw walks he wants his pitchers to throw strikes and the tigers right now
04:16and on base percentage uh are 19th in baseball but i think they're differential between uh their batting
04:24average and their on base percentage is actually one of the bigger ones in baseball but with that
04:29said i you know the the culpability of hitting coaches and pitching coaches it depends a lot on
04:35the the message the organization what the organization is trying to get across and what
04:39they're emphasizing now i would bet those numbers would probably be better if glaber torres was an
04:45everyday player and if some other guys some guys who performed in the past for them are not
04:50performing well i i think they've got guys that you would count on performing and and like the guys
04:57that i'm looking at they've got six guys that are typically in their everyday lineup that are guys
05:02that have hit and you're looking at riley green now you got kevin mcgonigle who's hitting very well
05:07this year glaber torres he's hurt dylan dingler javi baez who's hurt um and then maybe colt keith at the
05:15bottom end of that colt keith and carrie carpenter at the bottom end of that but then you get into
05:20an
05:20area where it gets to be okay is you know zach mckinstry is to me he's not an everyday baseball
05:27player but he's playing in this role you know you've got uh other players in this team that that
05:33are disappointing like spencer torres and his batting average is disappointing he's streaky you
05:39know his ops is is at 731 which is certainly above average but he's a first baseman supposed to hit
05:44for
05:44power and yeah he's got the 13 home runs but it's been you know weird streaky power
05:50that he's got and they've got too many guys in the bottom end of the lineup that just
05:55they're just not everyday players matt veerling's not an everyday player you know wenzel perez was not
06:01an everyday player um outman certainly is not an everyday player and then you've got guys that are
06:09below that that are part-time players that are not good enough either and that's where you get into the
06:15jamai jones of the world and how you lee has some upside it's been encouraging what he's done
06:20in the last month where he's hit like in the high 300s he's been hitting very well and maybe there's
06:26something there but i'm not counting on it but they need a fuller roster for sure and that means that
06:33they've got to raise the bottom end of those players to be better players and if they're not then give
06:37guys a chance then go into the minors go get cory jokes go get let jace young try to hit
06:43again at the
06:43major league level because he really hasn't had many many at bats at the major league level go try
06:48max and see what he's like i mean my point to the caller too is the organization knows how much
06:53culpability there is from the hitting coach and if there's an issue there do you know how easy it is
06:57to fire a hitting coach it's easy it is so easy to fire a hitting coach so if the hitting
07:03coach has a
07:05lot of responsibility with their struggles then fire the guy you can't if you if you have faith in
07:12anybody else in your organization at any level give them the shot but you can't you can't right
07:19now just like the guy who called it made riley green is chump you can't fire riley green and go
07:24get a better version there's nobody you're not going to go get somebody better right here right now
07:28on june 29th right you probably can go get a better hitting coach if you think that there's somebody if
07:36that hitting coach is ultimately responsible it's literally one of the easiest things you can do
07:41so i'm all for it if because get somebody else in the organization there's all kinds of hitting
07:47specialists in your organization right yeah who who got through to kevin mcgonigal the most i mean
07:52let's keep in mind the hitting coach it's also it's like a career year for dylan dingler here is it
07:57dylan dingler does he get some credit for it does riley green get credit for cutting down his strikeouts
08:02to a degree although he's starting to creep up again now um but i think it gives some credit to
08:08these
08:08guys i think you're only going to be as good as what you have to work with too i always
08:12find those
08:12solutions to be amongst the easiest so when they're not getting executed why not and maybe
08:17eventually they'll reach a breaking point 248-539-9797 feedback into the inbox a champ vote for jami jones
08:26which came in today that happened at this point feels like a vote for a third party candidate in a
08:31presidential election that's from eric matt from sterling heights now i'm worried about jalen
08:37duren he did not play good in the playoffs makes me think about point shape oh no come on don't
08:42do
08:42that i mean but this is where people's minds go doug just because you don't me and gator talk about
08:49but that's kind of a damaging accusation like i think this of course it is that's that's ridiculous
08:54that's you know wildly you know irresponsible to even to think that i guess the point is people
09:00think that though right yeah and and we're not co-signing on that by any stretch of the imagination
09:10i didn't realize the last caller champ jami jones because i was laughing so hard when i heard him
09:16call him lionel richie that's from pete and cedar springs he does look like uh jackson says wait am i
09:21the only one that noticed the last caller wanted to champ lionel richie no no you're not
09:28i can't count how many times i've confused jami jones with lionel richie they're almost the exact
09:33same person that's from michael madison heights it's funny um you know where you do the doppelganger
09:38thing for me the mustache is totally domingo ayala but if you don't know who domingo ayala is then
09:45i can't help it google domingo ayala that's who i think of aj hinch he pinches his he pinches jami
09:53jones like all night long am i right gator all night long hello is it jami you're looking for
10:03just like he makes up like uses uh sculpt his jami jones face in the back of the dugout like
10:11i made this for you
10:16i'm looking for jones he looks just like this you mean lionel richie
10:22ah there was some reporting regarding tarek scoobal and how likely it is he'll get traded
10:27including executives around the league giving their two cents very interesting we'll get to that today
