00:08was fined 2,000 ringgit by the magistrate's court in Kulai on Wednesday.
00:14Magistrate R. Salini imposed the sentence after the accused, Yo Achai, pleaded guilty when the
00:20charge was read. The court also ordered a jail term of up to two months if he fails to pay
00:26the
00:26fine. According to the charge, he intentionally injured a 37-year-old motorcyclist by punching him
00:33at about 5.45pm on April 3. The offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a maximum
00:42penalty of one year's imprisonment, a fine of up to 2,000 ringgit or both. Case facts showed the
00:49incident began with a near collision between the accused's Perodua Alza and the victim's motorcycle.
00:55The accused then stopped, got out of his vehicle, kicked the motorcycle, causing it to topple,
01:01and punched the victim several times in the abdomen, resulting in soft tissue injuries.
01:07Earlier, Kulai O CPD Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said the victim was on his way to work
01:14in Singapore when the suspect allegedly changed lanes and nearly hit him. After the motorcyclist
01:21knocked on the driver's window, the suspect stopped abruptly in the roundabout and attacked him.
01:27Members of the public later intervened to break up the altercation. The suspect was arrested
01:32at about 11.30pm on April 4 at a house in Cernay.
