A 26-year-old food seller was charged in the Johor Baru Magistrate's Court for driving recklessly against the flow of traffic.

S. Thaanesh pleaded not guilty to the charge of driving a car recklessly against traffic along KM4 Jalan Gelang Patah-Ulu Choh at around 9am on May 9.

00:00A 26-year-old food seller was charged in the Johor Bahru Magistrates' Court for driving
00:07recklessly against the flow of traffic. S. Thanesh pleaded not guilty to driving his car
00:12recklessly against traffic along Kilometer 4 Jalan Gelang, Pataulu-Cho at around 9 a.m. on
00:19May 9. He was charged under Section 42, subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries
00:27a penalty of 5 to 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of 5,000 to 15,000 ringgit if convicted.
00:34The Court granted him bail of 6,000 ringgit with one surety. He was also ordered to report
00:40to the police monthly, surrender his passport and have his driving license suspended. The
00:46Court set June 20 for the next mention and submission of documents. The case gained public attention
00:53after a video showing a red car wedged between two lorries went viral on social media.
00:59Iskandar Puteri OCPD Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan reportedly said that the 26-year-old
01:05driver was believed to have mistakenly entered the wrong lane while heading to a nearby petrol
01:10station. He added that the driver had driven against traffic for 500 meters before becoming
01:15trapped between the heavy vehicles.
