A lorry driver seen in a viral video was fined RM8,000, jailed for a day and had his licence suspended for five years after he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and making an obscene gesture at another road user.

Tan Chee Gang, 37, pleaded guilty to two charges before Magistrate Chia Huey Ting on Thursday (June 4).

00:1737-year-old Tan Chigang pleaded guilty to two charges before Magistrate Chia Hui Ting in Balik Pulao on Thursday.
00:25On the first charge, Tan was accused of making an insulting gesture towards a 59-year-old motorist along Jalantun
00:32Dr Awang at around 11.27am on May 28th with the intention of causing fear.
00:39The second charge related to driving in a manner dangerous to other road users at the same location and time.
00:44The magistrate imposed a fine of 3,000 ringgit for the first offence and 5,000 ringgit for the second,
00:51both in default of six months jail, and sentenced Tan to one day's imprisonment.
00:57His driving license was also suspended for five years.
01:01Magistrate Chia noted that the sentence took into account Tan's guilty plea, mitigation, and the public interest.
01:07The deputy public prosecutor urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence as a deterrent, stressing that such behavior endangered
01:16other road users.
01:18Tan's counsel from the National Legal Aid Foundation said in mitigation that his client, who works as a lorry driver,
01:25deeply regretted his actions.
