00:00A Taiwan driver pleaded not guilty at the magistrate's court in Jitra on Sunday
00:05to a charge of dangerous driving causing the death of a motorcyclist last month.
00:11Yusof Senkonam, 60, a religious teacher from Satun, Thailand,
00:15entered the plea after the charge was read to him in Thai
00:18before Magistrate Noor Shaliyati Mohamad Sobri.
00:23He is accused of driving dangerously and causing the death of 22-year-old
00:27Fatin Nursiafika Haris Bawijad at the RTC Napoh traffic light junction
00:34along Jalan Alor Star to Bukit Kayu Hitam in Napoh, near Kubang Pasu,
00:39at about 10.30pm on January 15.
00:43Yusof was charged under Section 41, subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act, 1987,
00:51which carries a jail term of 5 to 10 years
00:53and a maximum fine of RM50,000 upon conviction.
00:59The court granted bail of RM10,000 with two local sureties,
01:03ordered him to report monthly to the nearest police station,
01:07suspended his Malaysian driving licence,
01:09and fixed the case for mention on March 15.
