00:01You can see some very recent footage from this tornado-worn cell that is producing some really compelling imagery here,
00:09rotating wall cloud.
00:11There were two reports back about 26, 27, 28 minutes ago of tornadoes touching down from that storm.
00:19One tornado that touched down a couple of times there, at least once.
00:23And we're dealing with still the tornado threat continuing in the parts of Tayswell County in central Illinois.
00:30It was good to have a good set of eyes on that.
00:32And storm chaser Aaron Jajak has been reporting from the base of this storm here.
00:37Tony Laubach also, meteorologist storm chaser Tony Laubach, on another cell just west of there that we're closely watching that's
00:43threatening areas near Havana and crossing the Illinois River, too.
00:46Thanks for joining us.
00:47I'm Jeff Cornish.
00:48And, again, this warm front draped across parts of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio has been causing trouble.
00:54Flash flooding in Worcester, Ohio.
00:55Several severe thunderstorm warnings near Lafayette, Indiana.
00:59And then a couple of these cells have been rotating supercell, nasty supercell in progress in central Illinois.
01:05So we want to check in with the area of central Illinois here.
01:09Severe weather in progress.
01:10Storm chaser Aaron Jajak is joining us live from the belly of the beast there, Danvers, Illinois.
01:16So, Aaron, you've been on this cell for a bit.
01:18What have you been witnessing?
01:21Yeah, you mentioned those tornadoes.
01:23So I did see a brief week tornadoes on the ground for maybe 30 seconds off in the distance southwest
01:29of Hopedale, Illinois.
01:31Again, that was about 25 minutes ago.
01:33So this is the base of the storm that we had been chasing.
01:37I had been chasing for quite some time here.
01:39I do believe this part of the storm has lifted north of the warm front now as we were getting
01:43northeasterlies, northerlies just a little bit ago.
01:45So those winds are starting to turn out of the east more now, but I am watching a new wall
01:50cloud developing off here to the southwest.
01:52Looks like there's a handoff going on with the storm.
01:54It's cycling and a new wall cloud forming here.
01:56You can see the conical shape to it, and that would likely be right on that warm front.
02:01So I'm going to go dive south here in just a minute when we get done here talking about the
02:05storm here.
02:05But it does look like the storm will continue off to the east tonight.
02:08And, again, tornadoes are a threat here, and we are just getting about the time that low-level jet will
02:13ramp up.
02:14And that could intensify these storms and produce tornadoes as it moves off to the east tonight.
02:19Back to you, Jeff.
02:20All right.
02:21Thanks for that report there.
02:22Aaron Jajak on the prowl there in Danvers, barely east of this newly developing wall cloud.
02:29Aaron, we don't want to slow you down.
02:30I know that time is of the essence there with this developing situation.
02:33So he was mentioning just to his west-southwest here a new wall cloud developing, and we could see it
02:40there.
02:40So, again, we've been dealing with an area of strong rotation.
02:44This is moving through eastern Tazewell County, and Aaron's just in advance of it there in the Danvers area.
02:49So kind of looking west, and this is what storm chasers like to do.
02:52They don't want to be on the north side.
02:54Big-time hail up that way.
02:55Mackinac, Lily, you wouldn't see a thing, and you'd have some hail pelting your vehicle, hammering it there from the
03:00north side of the storm.
03:01But as we look at the velocity scan, you could see it's a little more disfigured than it had been,
03:06cycling through.
03:07And sometimes storm chasers use the phrase cycling to talk about kind of the evolution of an area of rotation,
03:15intensifying, and then kind of restructuring there.
03:18And you could see right over Tazewell, strong inbound, still some outbound wind.
03:21There was a time not long ago where we had about a 100-mile-per-hour gate-to-gate contrast.
03:25There was a time not long ago where we had about a 100-mile-per-hour gate-to-gate.
