00:00I understand if no one wants to, I need to add to no one wants to do it.
00:04I never know him again.
00:08Oh, that's a first ever. That's an exclusive right there.
00:11Oh my God.
00:12Westlife, it is such a pleasure to meet you.
00:14It's been 25 years of hits, iconic music videos, multiple world records.
00:20I don't think anyone could say that you don't have stage presence.
00:23To honor that, I have bought you some literal presence.
00:27What's inside will be an object which refers to a moment or a memory in Westlife's history.
00:33Are we ready for the first present?
00:35Yes.
00:35Okay, Shane, I'm going to give that to you.
00:38I'm very excited about this now.
00:39Not this good.
00:40Oh, wow.
00:42Ah, very cool.
00:43My school crest and Keynes and Marks, Summerhill College in Sligo.
00:47That is so cool.
00:48Am I right in thinking that you guys were in a school production of Grease?
00:51That's right.
00:52I have to know more about this. Who was who?
00:54We were in that one in the school production.
00:57You were Connicky and I was Sonny.
00:59You were Sonny and then we did it again two years later in the Hawkswell where we kind of properly
01:03got together with Mark in that one.
01:05And he was Connicky, I was Danny and Mark was the teen angel.
01:08Yeah.
01:09Your story's sad to tell.
01:11Remember that song?
01:11The teen is near for you well.
01:14Yes.
01:14In my school, just before I left, they did do Grease and I was asked to be Danny, but I
01:19didn't do it.
01:20I went, no, I'm not getting involved. I'm not doing it. Footballer.
01:24So I think it'd be between me and Shane for this new version of Danny, wouldn't it Shane?
01:27Yeah, between the two of us.
01:30Was there any part of you that sort of thought 25 years on that you would be sad doing this?
01:36Definitely not.
01:36Definitely not.
01:37Not a chance.
01:38I think back then like boy bands, especially, I suppose, famous boy bands lasted five years, maybe six if they
01:43were lucky.
01:44There was, you know, a few that you can mention, obviously like New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, Take
01:48That, Boys Own, NSYNC, Westlife, and then even after that, 1D.
01:53You know, like there's not a whole lot of us.
01:55You know, putting a boy band together, it's nearly like an arranged marriage in a way.
02:00You're lumped together and you have to get on and for the greater good.
02:05But some manage to do it and become successful and some don't.
02:08The legacy and the nostalgia that kicks in years later is phenomenal.
02:12Nicky, I'm going to give this to you.
02:15I haven't looked at it yet.
02:16Okay.
02:16I haven't looked at it yet.
02:17I know exactly what this is.
02:19This is...
02:19It's Nicky with a wig.
02:21So that's not me.
02:22That's not me.
02:23I thought it was more just to do your hair highlights.
02:26I have a lot to thank this product for.
02:29Why are you getting all the presents as a matter of interest?
02:31I don't know.
02:32Maybe I'm her favorite.
02:33I don't know.
02:33They're front loaded, okay?
02:35We're going to be moving through that.
02:36It's not a big surprise.
02:39I did a really bad audition.
02:40I was very hungover and I did a very bad audition for Simon Cowell of all people.
02:45Before he was famous, Simon Cowell.
02:47He was a record company.
02:49Kiddo.
02:49Kiddo.
02:50He came to see us in Dublin.
02:51I did a bad audition.
02:52Long story short, Louis said, we'll dye your hair blonde.
02:55We'll get him back in two or three months time for another audition.
02:58I dyed my hair literally this color.
03:01Grew it long.
03:02And he came back three months later.
03:03I love the new guy.
03:05Louis Walsh slapped me after the audition straight across the face.
03:08Imagine if that happened nowadays.
03:09It was like in the middle of like the Ritz in London.
03:11Right in the middle of the reception in Dublin Hotel.
03:14Slap me across the face basically.
03:15He liked me straight away by the way.
03:17Nicky wasn't there yet.
03:18Nicky wasn't in the band yet.
03:18Louis rang me up and he goes,
03:19Kian, don't worry about it.
03:20You're going to be in my next big boy band no matter what.
03:22You're getting close to a good Donald Trump there as well.
03:25Yeah.
03:26I never thought.
03:27Do you know what?
03:28Speaking of Donald Trump, he can do Donald Duck as well.
03:31That's even better than the band story.
03:32Can Donald Duck sing, like say, World of Rome?
03:45Oh, that's the first ever.
03:47That's an exclusive right there.
03:48Oh my God.
03:50I'm really worried about this.
03:51You've gone down a few roads here that I'm thinking,
03:53where could she be going with this?
03:54Okay, okay.
03:55Oh, okay.
03:56Not what I thought it was.
03:58Two pints of Guinness.
03:59Two glasses of Guinness.
03:59And you found love.
04:01Yeah, I only started drinking Guinness last year.
04:03What kind of era in Westlife's history?
04:06It has to do with the world records,
04:07Guinness World Records.
04:08We did the most sign-ins in cities in 24 hours or something like that.
04:12It was crazy.
04:13We just stayed on a plane and just went through the night.
04:15Do you think that there is a world where Westlife could be formed today
04:19and exist in the way that it did in the early days?
04:21No.
04:22With Louis Walsh slapping people.
04:25I don't know if anybody would be allowed to slap anyone in the band.
04:27Nowadays, it's a completely different world.
04:29You know, there's the magazine shoots and all the stuff we had to do
04:31to be on the front cover.
04:32And now it's just one post, one song.
04:34You could be the biggest artist in the world in a week,
04:36you know, and have the hottest song in the world like that instantly.
04:39But be forgotten about like that instantly as well.
04:41There's a lot of artists nowadays that have one hit.
04:44Yeah, staying there is a lot harder I think nowadays, but yeah.
04:46It was way much more fun then than it is now.
04:49I actually feel really sorry for the artists that are,
04:53even the successful ones that are kind of coming through now
04:55because I think we truly live in the best era of the music industry.
05:00Without a doubt.
05:01We were up against the Spice Girls at one point,
05:02and it was such a big, they were kind of finishing.
05:05But then you look at NSYNC, they sold 2 million records in a day
05:07on their album in the States.
05:09Mad stuff, yeah.
05:10That wouldn't happen now.
05:11Nicky, would you like your present now?
05:13He's dying for it.
05:14Nicky is dying for it.
05:15You won't give a regret.
05:16Nicky, this one is all for you.
05:18And if you could triumphantly hold it up to the camera.
05:22It is a bra saying.
05:25I love Westlife.
05:26I love Westlife.
05:30Seen a few of them before throwing at us?
05:32There's been a few of those.
05:33In the early days, people genuinely used to flash us in concerts.
05:37In the middle of like 10,000 to 20,000.
05:39Yeah, yeah.
05:39And you wouldn't bother be flashing the bra now.
05:41The bra would be ripped off as well.
05:41Oh no, the bra would be well done.
05:43Seen used to collect all the bras at the end of the talk.
05:45But it's good to see what it is.
05:46Wow, that was nice.
05:48I prefer the noodles.
05:49There was also a case in Ireland at Quote Park
05:51where two people were arrested, two women,
05:53were arrested for fighting over a seat.
05:55They've obviously had a few fizzy pops,
05:57and they were fighting over a seat at the Westlife concert.
06:00But it made the main news because it went to court.
06:02I love that some people out there have a criminal record
06:04and they would have to explain to people the story behind that.
06:07Well, I was at a blast like concert.
06:09So, Shane, this one is for you.
06:11Okay.
06:11Ah, there she is.
06:12Okay.
06:13Claudia.
06:13There she is.
06:14Our darling uptown girl.
06:16That was a pretty cool moment
06:17because she was probably the most beautiful,
06:18most famous woman or model in the world at the time.
06:21And the fact that she was in our uptown girl,
06:23it was kind of one of those moments
06:24where we had so much success the first two years.
06:26When is the good news going to stop?
06:28It was a fake down and set up for the day.
06:29It was a film set.
06:30Richard Curtis was the director.
06:32He had shot Four Weddings and a Funeral.
06:34It was like a movie.
06:35You know, all of our videos up to there were great.
06:37But now we were open to the big time.
06:40Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:41Making a movie.
06:42And Claudia and all of that.
06:44We're down to the last present.
06:45And the three of us will open it at the same time.
06:47No, it's for me.
06:48You got two, you got two.
06:49I get one.
06:50Oh, did he get two?
06:51That does seem only fair.
06:52What time did I get?
06:53I don't know.
06:54You got Blondes and the bra.
06:55Blondes was him.
06:56Yeah, but she still gave it to you.
06:58By mistake, in error.
06:59It doesn't matter.
06:59I'll open it if you want me to.
07:01You've got to break the band up.
07:04The break up years.
07:05I love it.
07:06Why was it the right decision to break up then?
07:09At the time, I didn't agree with it.
07:11At the time, I think we had done 10 albums in 11 years or something like that.
07:17And I suppose we always felt like we'd go out at the top.
07:21You know, we'd go out at the top and we were on our second greatest hits at that point.
07:24So it felt like I don't think we all enjoyed it as much anymore.
07:28Nicky, you had Brian on your podcast.
07:30You know, I've gone now.
07:31Was it the first time that you discussed all of it?
07:34Yeah, I know 100%.
07:35Yeah, yeah.
07:35And I said to him, look, this is what I'm about to do.
07:37I'd love you to come on.
07:38I said, but if you come on, there's no point in, you know, sugarcoating anything.
07:43Let's be honest.
07:44And I said, we're not going to fall out.
07:46We're men now.
07:47We can nearly laugh at whatever we disagreed upon, even though we might still disagree upon it.
07:51And we had a good time, actually.
07:54You know, I've kind of kept in touch with him more in the last year since the podcast than I
07:58did since 2004.
08:00We've had an amazing 25 years with Brian, with Mark.
08:03Everything that we've done up to now has been incredible.
08:06And it is part of our story.
08:08You know, they're very much part of our story.
08:09But in the future, honestly, you just don't know what will happen even after this tour.
08:12There might be no tour after this tour.
08:14You just don't know.
08:15Life changes an awful lot.
08:16The other sad news, I can't even fit it in the box.
08:18So this one comes unwrapped.
08:20Okay.
08:20But I will present that one.
08:22I'll present you with that.
08:23There you are.
08:23This is your life, Nicky.
08:24CD covers are very big nowadays, aren't they?
08:26You'll never fit that in the car.
08:27You'll never fit that in the car.
08:29Nostalgia aside, tell me about this album.
08:32So it's the 25 years of all our songs, basically all our history.
08:35And we have four new songs on there.
08:36First one was Chariot.
08:37And then Your Love Amazed Me is a song we released there last week, two weeks ago.
08:40First time feeling.
08:41First time feeling.
08:42And a beautiful song called A Beautiful Life, which Ed Sheeran wrote with Steve Mack,
08:48our long term, long term writer.
08:49And it's kind of about just having children and what that feels like and stuff.
08:52So it's a beautiful song.
08:54But look, it's all about the hits.
08:55It's all about the kind of nostalgia of having them all on one album together.
08:59And there's the famous Fly With The Wings.
09:01Remember we used to do that with our hands on the TV performances?
09:04I'm flying.
09:05It's a really good cover.
09:06It's a really good idea.
09:07Keep it to 25.
09:08It's confusing.
09:0825.
09:10Not 28.
09:10It's all 25.
09:11So we'll just ignore the first three years.
09:13Exactly.
09:14Which is where most of our number ones went.
09:1525.
09:17Westlife will have one number one.
09:18We just dream of management to roll on the rise at ya.
09:20Out now at all good dose.
09:22The album, this album here, is out now.
09:25It is absolutely fantastic.
09:26Westlife 25.
09:27We're super proud of it.
09:28And we're super excited to be going on tour in September this year and October in the UK.
09:33So come and see us.
09:34It's going to be incredible.
09:35Thank you for all your love and support.
09:36And if you're watching around the world, we're going to Australia and New Zealand and Asia and Europe.
09:42And we'll see you on tour.
09:43South America, North America.
09:45Yeah, we can't tell all of you.
09:46We're going everywhere.
09:46We're going everywhere.
09:47It's a world tour.
09:48We might even go to the moon.
09:49Let's see you on tour.
09:49At first, you next time to row Thank you for joining us.
09:49Let it be.
09:50October 7th and clear testing.
