00:04Welcome to MojoPlays and today we are looking at the most brutal story mode
00:09deaths in the Mortal Kombat series. We won't be looking at fatalities, only
00:14deaths that occur in campaigns. Of course, that means spoilers lie ahead.
00:19Are you prepared for the next? What now? But before we dive in, we publish new
00:26content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get
00:30notified about our latest videos. Kano, Mortal Kombat, Shaolin Monks.
00:35Not so fast, gross. She's my prize.
00:39Of the handful of the Mortal Kombat spinoffs, Shaolin Monks is the best one. Set during
00:45the events of Mortal Kombat 2, it follows Liu Kang and Kung Lao defending Earthrealm
00:50from Outworld's forces. And it has a few brutal deaths as well. First up is Kano,
00:55who's an easy guy to want to see something terrible happen to. And although it
00:59happens off screen, the aftermath is pretty gnarly. After his boss fight, Jax comes in
01:04for the final blow, knocking Kano onto a platform, which raises him up to be gnawed
01:09on by some unseen, but nonetheless hungry, monster. The platform then lowers to show
01:15his bloodied remains.
01:22Fatality.
01:23Kung Lao, Mortal Kombat.
01:26Round one, fight!
01:34Although it isn't brutal in the sense that there's a lot of blood, Kung Lao's death in
01:39the 2011 reboot is brutal in another way. After you defeat a ton of story-heavy big
01:44bads like Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, it seems things are going well, which is when you should
01:50know that things are about to go south. Mid-victory speech, Kung Lao's neck is snapped by Shao
01:55Kahn. The brutality comes in how suddenly it happens, catching you completely off guard.
02:00And you don't even get the satisfaction of enjoying Liu Kang punching Shao Kahn through the
02:05chest, since he's healed by Quan Chi. That guy is the worst.
02:09Shinnok, Mortal Kombat 11.
02:12No mercy will be shown. No quarter given.
02:24Okay, technically this isn't a death, since the Elder Gods can't really die, but it's
02:30pretty brutal and, by Raiden's own words, a fate worse than death, so it warrants a
02:35mention. At the end of Mortal Kombat X, Raiden delivers Shinnok's severed but still alive
02:41head to Liu Kang and Kitana as a warning. And at the beginning of Mortal Kombat 11, you
02:47see a flashback of Raiden interrogating and then decapitating Shinnok. Hearing his soft
02:52gurgles unable to talk while his face twitches is pretty disturbing stuff.
02:57There are fates worse than death.
03:09Quan Chi, Mortal Kombat X.
03:12Keeping you close to the Outworld throne these many years has proven most fortuitous devora.
03:19They never suspected one of their own to be a disciple of our lord.
03:23Yeah, he is the worst, and that's why it's so satisfying to see him get his comeuppance
03:28in this game.
03:29Quan Chi spends the whole game being one step ahead of everyone else, and pulling strings
03:34from the shadows.
03:35It takes until the end of the story, with Scorpion going through a whole host of heroes
03:40to reach him.
03:40And although it's swift, it's satisfying as hell.
03:44With a quick slice of the sword, Scorpion beheads him, though unfortunately not before he
03:49finishes a spell to free Shinnok. Not that the Elder God spends too much time being free,
03:54as we've already seen.
03:56Get over here!
03:59Mortal Kombat
04:00Today, I become THE Elder God!
04:05Vengeance for Kung Lao eventually comes, and it's pretty vicious.
04:08It's Raiden who gets to deliver the final blow at the end of the game, though only after
04:13one of the most annoying final bosses in fighting game history.
04:17Imbued with the power of the Elder Gods, he unleashes it in the form of a horde of small,
04:21but savage dragons, which then proceed to devour Shao Kahn alive.
04:26Of course, they'd find a way to bring Shao Kahn back later, but this was still a satisfyingly
04:32violent demise for the big bad.
04:42Mortal Kombat X
04:44I honor his will.
04:47D'vora's debut in Mortal Kombat X rubbed some fans the wrong way, which is kind of fair,
04:53considering in her first appearance, she got to kill two iconic characters.
04:58The fact remains, though, those deaths are pretty brutal.
05:01The first is Baraka, which is a personal slight to me.
05:05D'vora extends two bug-like tendrils, piercing one through his chest to remove his heart,
05:10and the other through his head to remove his brain.
05:12It's a very classic Mortal Kombat-style fatality.
05:16Doesn't make it easier to swallow, though.
05:25Emperor Reign, Mortal Kombat 1, Chaos Reigns.
05:32Reign!
05:33What are you doing?
05:34You shouldn't be here!
05:36Without my Empress, I am not an Emperor.
05:40Here's the thing about Reign in the base game of Mortal Kombat 1.
05:44He's kind of a tool.
05:45Just a minor villain fighting for Shang Tsung and Quan Chi.
05:49But in Chaos Reigns, an alternate universe version of him appears who's actually a pretty good guy.
05:54So, of course, they had to brutally murder him.
05:57Havok traps him, Tanya, and Sektor in a room, where the walls begin closing in.
06:02He uses his abilities to keep the walls back while Sektor works on a way out,
06:06but with little time, Sektor can only pull Tanya to safety before the trap is successful,
06:12and crushes Reign with a horrifying crunch.
06:15No!
06:16I won't!
06:17You must!
06:19I cannot hold these back much longer!
06:21KENTARO
06:22Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks
06:30KENTARO is one of the last bosses you fight in Shaolin Monks, and just like his other appearances
06:36across the series, it's still pretty intimidating facing a four-armed killing machine here, too.
06:41That must be why the devs gave him the most savage death in the game.
06:46Whether playing as Kung Lao or Liu Kang, the hero will take their time tearing off each of his limbs
06:51as he's powerless to stop him, and in a tremendous show of strength, they save his head for last.
06:57It feels good to overcome such a powerful warrior, and the devs knew to give him an over-the-top
07:03death.
07:11Geras, Mortal Kombat 11, Aftermath
07:19Geras only made his debut in Mortal Kombat 11, so his death in the DLC doesn't exactly sting,
07:25and he's back in the next story anyway.
07:27Still, hoo boy, is it a savage one.
07:30In Aftermath, Geras makes the very unwise decision of confronting Shao Kahn and commanding him to go see his master
07:37Kronika.
07:38After you defeat him, the former Emperor of Outworld takes up his Warhammer and beats Geras repeatedly in the head,
07:45caving it in before completely smashing it.
07:48Surely, Geras should have known better than to go up against someone like Shao Kahn alone.
08:06Before we continue, check out this single from SoundMojo's album, Balance.
08:10Classical music reimagined as rock, hard rock, and metal.
08:14Check out the full track and album below.
08:16Gold buys silence, guilt buys prayer.
08:21I am the echo, you can't outrun the jokes on you.
08:26The blade's begun.
08:31Melina, Mortal Kombat X.
08:33This one knew you would not stray far from the ambulance.
08:37You took my throne.
08:39Now you wish to steal my means of reclaiming it.
08:42It still wasn't for you.
08:43Who are you to say?
08:45The more infamous of D'Vorah's two executions in Mortal Kombat X,
08:49there were some passionate players who felt this one was unearned,
08:53and unnecessarily barbaric even in this series.
08:57After Melina is captured, Kotal Kahn has her executed.
09:01D'Vorah delivers the worst kiss of all time, regurgitating a horde of bugs into her mouth.
09:06And they are hungry little devils, making quick work of Melina's face and insides.
09:11It is by far the most gruesome kill that isn't a fatality,
09:16and that's part of the reason why Melina fans feel she was done dirty.
09:19Horrid stuff, though.
09:27What do you think is the most brutal death in the Mortal Kombat story modes?
09:31Are there any we left off?
