00:00Finish him. Johnny Cage wins.
00:04Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're taking a look at the 10 most stressful moments we've ever had to endure
00:11across the Mortal Kombat series.
00:20Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to MojoPlays and ring the
00:25bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:27Test Your Might
00:37The Test Your Might minigame has always been something both stress inducing and fun.
00:43In case you never played these minigames, somehow, you have to mash the attack buttons until the meter reaches a
00:50specific zone.
00:51You'll then have to press a completely different button to stop the meter from rising or decreasing.
00:57Of course, there are times where this is comically easy, but in games like MK9 where the bar can get
01:04significantly smaller, the tension becomes more and more strenuous as you try to reach that zone and nail the timing.
01:10It's pretty sweat-inducing.
01:17The Crypt
01:18Mortal Kombat X
01:25Speaking of things that require perfect timing, MKX featured one of the most unique approaches to the Crypt, a series
01:32staple where players could go grave robbing to unlock various characters, stages, costumes, concept art, and more.
01:38Although, MKX took it from being a simple menu and turned it into a full-on adventure mode.
01:44You'll gather items and solve puzzles to unlock new areas, but there is one aspect that is sure to keep
01:49you on your toes.
01:50Creatures like wolves and spiders will occasionally ambush you and force you to defend yourself with a quick time event.
01:57These moments can really catch you off guard and cause you to lose some coins, so maybe keep your visits
02:03short.
02:04Raid Towers
02:05Mortal Kombat 11
02:07What about it?
02:09Blood is everywhere.
02:11Towards the end of MK11's post-launch support, the Raid Towers were pretty fair and still maintained some challenge.
02:18But once upon a time, Raid Towers were the worst part of the Towers of Time section.
02:23More often than not, these Raid Towers gave your opponents too many BS powers to exploit and boasted way too
02:30high of a health pool.
02:32It felt like all of that time spent finding strings and learning your mains was now just a complete waste
02:38of time.
02:39If the odds were always stacked against you, what was even the point in participating in a Raid Tower?
02:44Thank the Elder Gods these were nerfed in a somewhat timely manner.
02:48Kitana wins!
02:52Conquest's Combos
02:53Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance
03:02If you played a ton of the old 3D Mortal Kombat games, then maybe these aren't super difficult for you
03:08since you're used to input delay on old hardware.
03:11For the rest of us, the conquest mode in Deadly Alliance was more frustrating than we had anticipated.
03:17Some characters and their stances were a lot harder to learn than others.
03:20Things got even more stressful once the game started throwing in stance changes in the middle of combos.
03:26That said, there are reasons some of us favor deception way, way more than Deadly Alliance.
03:32And this is definitely one of those reasons.
03:36Finding Floyd!
03:37Mortal Kombat 1
03:44Floyd was a neat little novelty for NetherRealm Studios to add post-launch, but it came at the cost of
03:49more headaches than we needed.
03:51See, Floyd was locked behind a pool of 37 different challenges, quote-unquote, if you can even call them that.
03:58And a random selection of 10 of those challenges were assigned to each and every player.
04:03Yes, every player got their own set of 10 challenges with absolutely no way of knowing which ones they got
04:10until after they accomplished them.
04:13What's worse is that Floyd is not an easy opponent by any means.
04:17So, if you lost, you have to do all 10 challenges again.
04:22And if you manage to get a couple of these tasks that are harder than the others, good freaking luck.
04:28Some of us couldn't be bothered to go through the whole process.
04:31It was that annoying.
04:41Bullet Hell Invasions
04:43Mortal Kombat 1
04:52While we're on the subject of MK1, we gotta talk about the abysmal Invasions mode.
04:58Specifically, all those levels involving projectiles.
05:01One of the weirdest parts about Invasions mode is just how many of these damn levels plague each and every
05:07region.
05:07These levels task you with avoiding projectiles shooting from outside the screen.
05:12With MK1's clunky movement and awful input windows, this is a lot easier said than done.
05:18Admittedly, there aren't as many of them as we're probably making them sound.
05:22But for how long they go for, they sure do pop up way more frequently than we would like.
05:33Challenge number 300
05:35Mortal Kombat 2011
05:43This was probably the most obvious choice for this kind of list.
05:47Challenge number 300 is one of the most infamous tasks in the entirety of Mortal Kombat history.
05:53Choose your best fighter and face Goro, Kentaro, a ball-happy spamming Mileena, and a block-disabling Shao Kahn.
06:01And you have to fight them all with a single health bar.
06:04This can be a grueling gauntlet if you're not playing a character with a spammable move.
06:09Especially considering the special armor properties that Goro, Kentaro, and Shao Kahn wield.
06:14Like we said, choose your best character for this fight, and hope for the best.
06:29Death Traps
06:31Mortal Kombat Armageddon
06:33Now this part of Armageddon was another example of stressful, but fun for the most part.
06:40Just about every stage in Armageddon featured special environmental hazards called Death Traps.
06:46As you approach these hazards, you'll notice a special area appears on the ground.
06:51Should a player get hit with a certain attack while standing in these areas, like an uppercut or a knockback
06:56launcher,
06:57they will launch and land directly into the Death Trap, instantly ending the round.
07:02Some maps had Death Traps that were fairly easy to avoid, others were in much more congested areas.
07:08Either way, you had to be mindful of where you and your opponent were heading.
07:12Hidden Boss Fights
07:17The older Mortal Kombat games really gave us a double dose of stress when it came to finding hidden boss
07:22fights.
07:22Hidden fighters like Reptile, Ermac, Noob Saibot, and special variants of regular fighters,
07:28were often tied to ridiculously hard challenges.
07:31These were usually tied to finishing fights with stage hazards, winning rounds without blocking,
07:35or only using specific attacks, or getting consecutive flawless victories.
07:41These methods alone were such a mental strain to execute that by the time you even get to the secret
07:45fights themselves,
07:47you'd wind up losing all of your skill.
07:49And somehow, this isn't even the most stressful moment in the franchise.
07:53Finish him!
08:01Performing finishing moves has and always will be the most stressful aspect of Mortal Kombat.
08:06And yes, I know what they're actually called, it's just Big Daddy YouTube doesn't like that word.
08:11But anyways, no matter how often you try to remember the inputs, you're always bound to screw up a button,
08:17or your character's position on the stage.
08:19It's especially difficult when you have weird position requirements like mid or sweep distance that never feel quite right.
08:26As a result, you will often finish fights with just a whiffed attack, or a simple punch to the face,
08:32which aren't exactly fun ways to end fights in Mortal Kombat.
08:36It almost makes us thankful for the tokens that only require holding two buttons down.
08:47Which Mortal Kombat moment stressed you out the most?
