00:39There are a handful of fighters who debuted during the 2000s, and of whom we haven't heard much of since.
00:45Looking like MK's version of Ken from Street Fighter, Cobra first appeared in 2004's Deception, as a street brawling recruit
00:52of the Black Dragon clan.
00:54He, along with basically everyone else, would appear again in 2006's Armageddon, and it would later be retconned that he
01:00was killed off by Shang Tsung during a climactic battle, and was forgotten by most players in the coming years.
01:16Funnily enough, his moves are used by DLC character Ghostface in Mortal Kombat 1, along with fellow obscure character Kira,
01:24with it written into his lore that she and Cobra are helping him.

02:14his second appearance was in armageddon where he like much of the rest of the packed roster
02:19would die in the opening fight leading to the universe reboot in 2011 but even though they
02:24could bring him back kai has been left behind shujinko i was the fool who brought him this power
02:41only i can destroy this threat born of deception shujinko's first appearance was actually quite
02:49unique since he was specifically made as the protagonist of deception's conquest mode
02:54although he also appeared in the traditional modes the story chronicled his entire life
02:59as he was deceived into spending it helping a villainous dragon king named onaga
03:04damashi what has he done to you let him go shujinko please save me
03:13oh you fool damashi does not exist after his appearance in armageddon again everyone is in
03:20that game he would only make cameo appearances in mortal kombat x and mortal kombat 1. it's a little
03:25bit of a shame considering how much effort was put into his debut from the star of an entire mode

03:41shujinko jerek the black dragon died with kano you're the last one jerek
03:50a member of the black dragon clan jerek had to put aside his differences with sonja blade to fight for
03:57the forces of good in mortal kombat 4. however being the student of and having similar moves to kano
04:03it's easy to see why he didn't leave much of a mark he next appeared in special forces a bad

04:09most people haven't played
04:17and beyond being playable and canonically dying at the end of armageddon
04:22like almost everyone else jerek has been relegated to cameo appearances ever since
04:37dairu
04:45as you can see there are a handful of characters who debuted during the deception era that have since
04:50been mostly forgotten a saidan guard turned mercenary dairu used some stealthy tactics in combat
04:56and a modified dao a chinese broadsword but his backstory meant he could easily be lifted out of the
05:02future plot
05:13his last playable appearance was armageddon canonically he sided with shinnok and was killed by shang sun he
05:20hasn't been included since though admittedly there hasn't been much demand to bring him back either
05:37chameleon
05:44the ninja chameleon with a c debuted in the pc playstation and sega saturn
05:50versions of mortal kombat trilogy as a hidden character who uses abilities from all of the
05:55male ninja fighters up to that point with only one other playable appearance armageddon that's
06:00pretty obscure but then there's chameleon with a k who's even more easily forgotten a gender swap
06:07version of the character who instead uses moves from the female ninja fighters she's what players of
06:12the n64 version of mk trilogy god she also only ever made one more playable appearance again armageddon
06:20though exclusively on the wii
06:30netherrealm did recently bring her back in mortal kombat 1 but only as a dlc cameo fighter
06:49netherrealm did you want some prizes that were bad you would think that a ninja with earth powers
06:56would play a bigger part given the many other elemental powered ninjas running around the mk
07:01universe trimmer debuted in the aforementioned spin-offs special forces so the chips were
07:06admittedly stacked against him still he only made his playable debut in the ps vita version of the
07:122011 reboot and only in the challenge tower he was made playable in the more traditional sense
07:18in mortal kombat x but as the final dlc character
07:32you can use him again through dlc in mortal kombat 1 but only as a cameo fighter it's a shame
07:39he's never
07:39been given much chance to shine because you'd essentially have an earthbender on the roster

08:00i are attacking some demon i have no memory of that even more obscure than a character who debuted in
08:07deception a character who debuted in armageddon which they retconned by killing everyone off anyway
08:12similar to shujinko taven was introduced as the protagonist through this game's conquest mode
08:18it follows the half god after he awakens from stasis and his attempt to stop his brother from
08:23achieving full godhood and bringing on a cataclysmic event
08:34taven was also in the base roster of the game but beyond a few cameos he has been left behind

09:01taven's brother that we mentioned the villain of armageddon's conquest mode
09:05that would be dagon and just like his brother he went from playable character
09:10two cameos and references it's easy to see why it was important for the series to thin out the
09:15roster and go back to the basics for the 2011 reboot and a couple of newly introduced half gods must
09:21have been easy picks to cut plus both he and taven used various fire-based attacks and it isn't as
09:27if
09:27the series was exactly lacking in that department when they were introduced
09:40serena he's headed towards the sea of immortality
09:43immortal yes immortal with the ability to freeze serena's obscurity is partially due to the games she
09:51debuted in her first appearance was in another mostly forgotten spin-off mortal kombat mythologies sub-zero
09:57she didn't join the main series until mortal kombat tournament edition the gameboy advance version
10:03of deadly alliance which is understandably not the one most people played
10:14a nether realm demon under the control of quan chi she broke free in order to help sub-zero
10:20she appeared with everyone else in armageddon though a huge roster like that didn't really let her stand
10:26out and since then like many others on the list she has only made small appearances and cameos since
