In a major action in Uttar Pradesh, the Superintendent of Police in Kaimganj has suspended a woman sub-inspector and her constable driver after a video allegedly showing them accepting a bribe went viral.

According to reports, the case relates to a complaint filed by a family alleging the kidnapping of their 14 year-old niece by influential individuals in their village. An FIR had already been registered at the local police station.

The family accused Sub-Inspector Sudha Pal, who was handling the investigation, of demanding ₹25,000 for conducting a “fair probe.” Under pressure, the victim’s family allegedly paid ₹7,000, a video of which later surfaced on social media.

The family further alleged that even after paying the bribe, the accused persons continued to roam freely and allegedly threatened them. They also claimed the accused boasted of having influence over the investigating officer, raising serious concerns about police integrity.

Taking cognisance of the viral video and complaint, SP Aarti Singh ordered the suspension of the sub-inspector and the constable driver.

Additional SP Arun Kumar Singh confirmed that a departmental inquiry has been initiated and handed over to the Circle Officer of Mohammadabad. Further legal action will depend on the findings of the probe.

Following the incident, four sub-inspectors—Gyan Prakash Pandey, Ankur Bhati, Ramnaresh Singh, and Ashok Kumar—have been deployed from Police Lines to Kaimganj Police Station.

The investigation is ongoing.
