00:00From Detroit in the 450 main, Roxen with a great start, Prado with another flyer, the Spaniard out in front,
00:09he is sensational when the gate drops.
00:12Yeah, watch Kenny Roxen right here, this guy has been on it today, I saw some stuff on social media
00:19this week, he's tired of everybody, discounting his late season pushes and runs, he feels he's better than he's ever
00:27been, and he is so fast.
00:30And his sprint speed is incredible early on and he knows he's not going to waste any time trying to
00:35get by Prado.
00:37That was Prado's fifth hole shot of the season and he hasn't done every race.
00:45Oh Kenny right there, Prado been very, very incredible this season, think about how last season went on that Kawasaki,
00:54switches back to his old team that he spent so many years with.
00:59He has done a great job.
01:01And he's loving it.
01:02And he still says look I'm learning, I'm learning a lot about Supercross.
01:06As Hunter Lawrence has some work to do, bottom box, see him on the inside of Tomac.
01:11Yeah, Tomac comes up short and then isn't able to triple into the corner. Hunter Lawrence goes right by him.
01:21This is going to be interesting to see you see Tomac misses the corner again.
01:26Well, the top two of the championship in unfamiliar territory back there.
01:30Hunter Lawrence has not been that far back on lap one in any main event this year.
01:35Here's Roxen working on Prado.
01:38The inside right here.
01:42Prado looks over, he knows Kenny's bringing the action and he does.
01:47Cooper Webb's moved into third position. He gets by Chase Sexton.
01:52And there is that gap from third to fourth. It's on. Webber's got a chance.
01:57You're going to see some urgency from Cooper Webb.
02:00Oh, my boots go down. Prado and Webb down.
02:05Oh, man. Totally miscalculated by the one of Cooper Webb.
02:13Oh, that is going to hurt his championship hopes.
02:17I was going to see, you're going to see some urgency from these guys.
02:20So Cooper's going to tuck up the inside.
02:23Yeah, the momentum going. Prado is already turned down.
02:30And they both hit the deck. Yeah.
02:35Meanwhile, the door opened for Chase Sexton.
02:37And in the background, you may have noticed Hunter Lawrence got a pretty easy passage through.
02:42Past Malcolm Stewart as well. Will.
02:46Ricky, you were talking about it. You guys were both talking about it.
02:50Like, Ken, how good he is right now.
02:52And is this perhaps the best form that we've ever seen him in?
02:55And I got to speak to him earlier on today and basically asked him that question.
02:58Like, where is all this coming from?
03:00How is this kind of possible? What makes this possible?
03:03He said to me, honestly, it's tough to answer.
03:06But he's like, it's just all the pieces of life on and off the track.
03:10He talked about his family life and how happy he is.
03:13But he also talked a lot about the experience, everything that he's been through and how he can put that
03:18into not only his day-to-day training, but also on the track there.
03:22He said the calmness, his understanding of the bike. He's been on it three years.
03:26And all these pieces come together basically to just make trust because it's a low-stress situation.
03:33And that is what we're seeing out of Ken Rockson at this point in his career.
03:37It's just, you know, it's the puzzle.
03:40And everything just coming together working so well for the 94.
03:43I mean, you think about all the starts and the years that he's had too, right?
03:47I mean, that definitely helps the situation.
03:50Not only you take into consideration of how long he's been on this HEP team.
03:56I mean, all these things coming together at once.
03:59And, yeah, I'm sure he gets tired of hearing, you know, a lot of people talking about he can't, you
04:04know, he can't finish the season.
04:05Well, now is the point where he's got to do what he's doing right now late in the season.
04:10He's got to get those good starts and put in those wins and silence the critics.
04:16And he's doing a fine job at it right now.
04:18Winning Glendale earlier this year. Look at that gap there.
04:21It's three seconds to chase Sexton.
04:25Yeah, I go here to, as far as the championship goes, and the battle between Hunter Lawrence and Tomac.
04:31And Hunter is absolutely making it happen.
04:35Seventh, the first lap. He was the fastest guy on the track last lap with a 52.3.
04:41And then going to Eli, he's a 53.2. His second slower.
04:47And he's five seconds behind Hunter. He has got to close in.
04:51Big gap, big gap between the top two in the championship.
04:55How about the man making his return after missing three races? Chase Sexton. Here he is.
04:59What are his goals for the rest of the season? Have a listen in his own words.
05:05My goals are obviously to get back into the mix. I think prior to me crashing, I wasn't really where
05:11I wanted to be.
05:12So, try and claw my back into the fight. Obviously not for the championship, but just race by race.
05:19And try and get some more race wins. I only have one this year. So, yeah, hasn't been great so
05:25far.
05:25But hopefully we can change that and start off here in Detroit.
05:30And the challenges for Chase Sexton have been obviously with that injury that's kept him out for four weeks, but
05:35also just getting that bike set up.
05:37It's been a lot of talk about that. And speaking to the Monster Energy Kawasaki team today, they said,
05:41Yep, testing has 100% continued through all of this. But what they were most excited about, guys, is getting
05:47Chase back out on track.
05:48They said, We learn the most in race situations. And they all were extremely happy to see him back out
05:53here today.
05:54Yeah, and honestly, he looks great right here. He doesn't look like he's overriding the motorcycle.
05:58The motorcycle looks good and not taking any chances. And he just looks like he's out in a moto during
06:05the week.
06:06Just hitting his marks, and he looks great.
06:11A couple of days ago, you and I had a really good conversation with Hunter Lawrence.
06:16He told you this is the best that he has ridden in his career, period. Even during his 250 title.
06:25And I asked him, I was like, Is there any race that you have on the calendar where you're like,
06:29Oh, this is going to be super challenging. And if I can just get past this race.
06:33And he told us it was last week. He wanted to come back from the break, set the tone, and
06:40get some momentum going.
06:41And that's exactly what he's done right here. And even though he's not in the lead right now, he's putting
06:47in some great laps.
06:48And look at, I mean, you got Sexton right in front of him. And Kenny's right there.
06:54Right there. And we're not even halfway.
06:57We asked Hunter, where do you get this tenacity from? And this determination where you are so strong, the longer
07:05the race goes on.
07:06And he said, I honestly don't know. I just, I've always had it. It's in me. I don't think it's
07:11something I've learned.
07:12That's just, that's just who I am.
07:15Meanwhile, bottom box, Eli Tomac, nine and a half seconds off the lead in fifth place, JT.
07:22Yeah, Lee. And this is more just posing a question than it is really insight on Eli.
07:27You look at last week, he loses by 30 plus seconds. And you can kind of just chalk it up
07:33to, hey, you lost contact with the lead.
07:35You brought it home with a safe third. But now we're in our second week of kind of mediocrity from
07:41the two-time champ.
07:42This is the second winningest rider. This is the guy that a lot of people are like, he's on his
07:47best form of his career.
07:48Now we're in back-to-back weeks where just something looks a little off.
07:52We talked about it in the heat. We're seeing it get in the main.
07:55And I don't really know what to attribute it to, but I can tell you the points that he's losing
08:00right now are going to be a big deal when we roll into Salt Lake City.
08:04Well, I think JT, like when I'm watching him, I just, I just watch the corners in general.
08:10And I just feel like he's not flowing through the corners and it doesn't look like it's one motion.
08:16I mean, the balance looks decent. I don't think that the balance of the motorcycle from front end to rear
08:21end is much different than what we've seen all season long.
08:24But it just looks like he's taking one corner and making it two corners. And it's just, again, it's not
08:30flowing.
08:31And I don't know what that is, but this is certainly a lot different than what we've seen all season
08:36long.
08:36Well, look, you're talking about a guy who's had eight podiums this year. Four of those eight podiums have been
08:41wins.
08:41Yeah. And this, I just, I'm looking at the top of the screen right here and what an opportunity this
08:50could be for the 96 from a championship points perspective.
08:54It can keep on the pressure right here. Oh, the Lawrence is down. The whoops gets another one.
09:03They have been savage tonight. And that was a hard fall for under Lawrence.
09:08Oh, he stalls the bike. Oh, this is massive. Something's wrong. Something wrong with the front, front brake.
09:19Oh, you can see the front brakes down. Let's see if it's, is it locking up? That is going to
09:24be a, that is, his front brake is locking up.
09:27Oh no. See it stopping? Oh, I wonder if the rotor's bent.
09:33This is a guy who has not finished any worse than four this year. The championship leader.
09:41He's going to have to pull off.
09:43This bike is not working for his, his front. Yeah. You can see he's kicking his, he's kicking his front
09:48lever there, JT.
09:50Yeah. And the Honda crew is scrambling. He's going to have to pull in to get a wheel change here.
09:54The problem is that's a really difficult thing to change.
09:58You see them loosening things up. Hopefully that's all it is. But the way that wheel is locking up would
10:03lean into something more like a bent rotor.
10:05Let's hope though that this was the fix. Oh, this is going to be scary. Yeah. See pops a wheelie
10:11right there to see if the front wheel was still spinning.
10:14It looks like it is. He's probably going to take it easy here to get a feel of it, to
10:18make sure it's safe enough to go turning the wheel.
10:22I watched his bike step out the lap previous and it kind of, that's like, you probably heard me go,
10:28oh, well, I saw him kind of step out and it was game over that next lap.
10:35Oh, that was scary stuff. Meanwhile, we've just crossed the halfway mark. Quick reminder to stock up on Monster Energy
10:43drinks at your local Kroger.
10:45Let's go back and have a look at that. The championship leader and three time winner this season, Hunter Lawrence
10:53running third, chasing Sexton down.
10:56That bike is just whipping back and forth. And that was a really hard impact. It's dancing side to side
11:02because they were so edgy. There's Lars, the team manager.
11:06And it just caught that last whoop on the inside and just high sided him so fast and violently. I
11:15can tell you who this is a gift for.
11:17And that's Ken Roxxon from a point situation. Andy, like Tomac. Oh, well, yeah, I mean, for sure Tomac, but
11:25this is, I mean, I feel like Kenny's the biggest gainer of them all.
11:29Wow. So we've often spoken about not how many wins, not how many podiums, but your best worst result. Tomac's
11:39worst is 12th. Now, unfortunately for Hunter Lawrence, he finds himself a lap down in 19th place as Roxxon keeps
11:48rocking. He's now four seconds out in front of Chase Sexton. Let's talk more Kenny with Will.
11:55Lee, I told you I was talking to Kenny earlier today and something he mentioned to me, he said, I
12:00know I am still in this. He's like, that self-belief is just a trust in the bike. He said,
12:05but I do know as well. I've been around for, I know that anything can happen in this sport. Something
12:10happens and suddenly you're within 20 and you're right back in it. And that is just what we have seen
12:16unfold here. This sport. Wow. It's incredible.
12:19The consistency and the comfort with this bike and this team. He's told us many times. He hardly makes any
12:28changes to it. This Progressive Insurance Cycle Gear X-Star Suzuki and Kenny just go together.
12:38He's looking picture perfect right now. He's got a little gap and Kenny is really good at getting a four
12:44and a half, five second lead and just maintaining only rides as hard as he needs to. Great job.
12:53Another beneficiary has been Malcolm Stewart, who was elevated to third when Hunter Lawrence dropped his bike at the end
12:58of the warps and Eli Tomac, JT, finds himself in fourth.
13:02Yeah, this is a huge moment for both Eli Tomac and Ken Rockson. And it reminds me a lot of
13:09that 2023 championship going into Nashville, where Cooper Webb has that big crash.
13:14He drops out, loses a ton of points. And Chase Sexton went into that round in third place in the
13:19championship. And we know who won that championship.
13:23No one was thinking about Chase Sexton going into Nashville and things started to unravel from there.
13:28So, yes, Will's point is well made. It's not over until it's over.
13:33That's a violent, more violent one there, man, for Hunter.
13:40Eli's going to have to pick it up a little because Justin Cooper isn't far off.
13:47And we still got six minutes plus one lap.
13:50So, I mean, you talk about, you know, getting a little gift here.
13:55Kind of got to take advantage of that.
14:00Oh, man.
14:02I'll tell you what.
14:03This sport is just, it throws you a curveball when you least expect it.
14:08It's Justin Cooper sits in fifth.
14:11He might be able to catch Eli.
14:12He's only 2.2 seconds back.
14:14Want to give a shout out to some other riders further back.
14:17Dylan Ferrandes in his comeback ride after that thumb injury sits in seventh.
14:23Joey Savace on his return ride in eighth.
14:26Justin Hill has been good all day long.
14:30And Justin finds himself in ninth.
14:32that Garrett Marchbanks, after a really violent crash in his heat race, wins the LCQ and is in the top
14:39ten.
14:40That's a terrific comeback.
14:41Incredible, incredible job.
14:45Meanwhile, what's the latest with Hunter Lawrence?
14:49The man who took over the red plate and the championship points lead in Glendale.
14:54That was at round five.
14:55We're at round 11 now.
14:57And he's going to kiss that red plate goodbye for the time being.
15:00But thankful that he is not injured.
15:04Yeah, I mean, he's got to be banged up, you would think.
15:07And you just got to wonder, okay, moving forward, just get through here.
15:11Finish the race.
15:12But then, are you banged up?
15:15What is, how does that change your week and preparation?
15:17And how are you going to feel for next week?
15:19It's not just about tonight.
15:21What are the lingering effects he could possibly have?
15:24Because, I mean, he hit the deck hard.
15:27Hard.
15:29And we were down there today.
15:31That section after the whoops is packed down hard.
15:35Yeah, you could hear.
15:36And that's where he landed.
15:37You could feel the impact each time the wheel would hit the whoops.
15:41And that thing was just violent.
15:44Meanwhile, the battle, the battle for fourth has ratcheted up a little bit because here comes
15:50Justin Cooper on Eli Tomac.
15:52Four minutes to go plus a lap.
15:55Told you.
15:57Now that these whoops have become jumpers, Justin Cooper playing right into his hand.
16:02I like how he goes to the outside right here.
16:05Goes on, off.
16:06Oh, comes up a little short but still able to triple into the corner.
16:09That was a really nice save.
16:12So watch, we stick with him.
16:15Watch to see the difference in whoops speed and the lines that they're taking.
16:20Eli has been going to the left.
16:21Oh, I thought Coop was going to go the inside.
16:24He is.
16:25And Tomac did not fight that.
16:27No.
16:28He knew that that was coming.
16:29Tries to fight back through the whoops.
16:32Kind of just gives way right there.
16:34Fights Justin a little bit but.
16:38Yeah, I'm giving, I'm giving Eli the benefit of the doubt here.
16:41This definitely doesn't look like the guy we've seen all year.
16:44So something might be going on, JT, that we don't know about.
16:48Yeah, I was saying, thinking the same thing.
16:50There's something up here.
16:51For him, in this championship position, with the points he has just been handed,
16:55to put up no fight there, screams that there's something else going on.
17:00Yeah, an example, like, kind of just expand on what JT's talking about.
17:04You know, when you're in that position and you see your main challenger for the championship go down,
17:09you want to have an extra fight to get by the guys in front of you
17:13because you're just going to pad that points lead.
17:16So to see him, I mean, obviously he's trying the hardest that he is.
17:21But it, yeah, it's just different.
17:24Meanwhile, up front, things are getting better and better and better for Ken Robson.
17:296.6 seconds now ahead of Chase Sexton.
17:35This guy, man, fantastic ride.
17:39Picture perfect all night long.
17:45The great thing about riding this motorcycle this long, Lee, is he knows the ins and outs of it,
17:52knows what it does well, doesn't do many things bad at all.
17:58Got some good balance to it.
18:00Now he's, oh, oh, no.
18:02Lawrence is down for the second time in this race,
18:04this time with fellow Honda rider Christian Cray.
18:08Insult to injury here.
18:10I can't get the bike cranked.
18:13That is weird.
18:15What happened?
18:21Oh, he hit neutral, it looks like.
18:23Looks like he might hit neutral.
18:26Rear tire isn't spinning.
18:29What has been a near-on-perfect season, unfortunately, for Hunter Lawrence has all come undone here tonight.
18:35It's been one of those nights.
18:38Well, you talk about it.
18:40The championships are won on your bad days.
18:42Lee, you've been saying his worst finish was fourth.
18:45And you just wondered if a day like that would come.
18:49Obviously, you hope not for anyone.
18:52But it's the big question about racing is, like, not if, it's when.
18:59It's going to be a night to celebrate for this man here on board,
19:02the Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna, Malcolm Stewart.
19:05Remember the way the year started in very inauspicious fashion,
19:09where he broke his scapula, he was involved in that big crash with Justin Barsha.
19:15It was brutal.
19:16And he showed a lot of guts and strength and bravery to ride through that injury.
19:22It's been a long while, Salt Lake City last year,
19:26since Malcolm stood on a 450 Supercross podium.
19:30So this will be some relief, some sweet.
19:33But he's been getting better each and every week.
19:36And that injury has been healing.
19:39Had an opportunity to talk to big James track walk earlier today.
19:43And he said, Alex, feeling pretty good.
19:45And he's getting better.
19:47Came off his season best last weekend in Birmingham, top five.
19:50Now he's gone one, two steps even better.
19:55Now, the ailing Eli Tomac is about to lose another position
20:03to his old rival and old teammate Cooper Webb.
20:07This is now the fight for fifth.
20:10Webb coming back after that brutal crash earlier with Jorge Prado.
20:16I go back to Eli's early years in the premier class.
20:21And sometimes it just looked like he was off and you're wondering why.
20:26And it's just, I'm so perplexed right now.
20:29This has been so good from the old Eli many, many years ago.
20:36This definitely looks like he's like, he lays up a little early in the corners.
20:41Yeah.
20:43All right.
20:44Back up.
20:44Whoa.
20:44Being able to gap Cooper there just a little bit.
20:47Meanwhile, Kenny Rockson is on his way home.
20:50What an awesome night.
20:51It was a pretty active period since Birmingham as far as words spoken.
20:57Kenny expressing his frustration and dislike for people counting him out
21:04and saying he doesn't have the longevity throughout the season.
21:09Well, you can walk the walk and you can talk the talk.
21:14And Kenny's done both right here tonight in the Motor City.
21:18Hear the crowd loving it.
21:21Hasn't had a multi-win season in five years.
21:27Wow.
21:28That was back in the Honda days, right?
21:30Ken Rockson.
21:31Look at that.
21:31Look how much it means.
21:34Rockson rocks Detroit.
21:38Kenny's back for his second win on the year.
21:42Chase Sexton, a successful return to competition with second.
21:47And Malcolm Stewart will grab the final step on the podium
21:51ahead of Justin Cooper and Eli Tomac and Cooper Webb.
21:55Peace.
21:55Peace.
21:55Obrigado.
