Canberra Times photographer Keegan Carroll hits the streets to ask Canberrans if rising fuel costs have affected their travel plans.

00:00Hi everybody, how you going? Welcome to the Canberra Times. Now there's been a
00:04bit of a hot topic lately at the moment and it is petrol prices. Now there's a
00:08big holiday coming up soon which is Easter. A lot of Canberrans head down the
00:12coast to see family and to take a nice easy break from here. So I'm going to head
00:16down to the city, ask a few people what they think and what their plans are going to be.
00:31Absolutely they have. It's way too high for us to be able to go and travel to see
00:36our family. A lot of our family lives up north or inland further like Yonge or
00:40even up in Newcastle and it's just too hard for us to go and see them
00:45especially being renters. It's absurd. Yes absolutely it is. We are honestly
00:52trying to decide whether to buy Easter eggs or to save and go to a family
00:56members house if we can. But yeah it's it's not looking good to say the least.
01:02They haven't changed too much what we're doing. We're part of a touring group and we
01:08are driving a minibus with a trailer. So everything that we do has to be done via
01:14road travel and getting to and from gigs may become a problem for us because if
01:20prices go too high or ration kicks in we may find ourselves stuck. So we're very
01:26conscious of the rising prices and how it may affect us. So contingencies are in
01:31place for that. In a sense yes perhaps related mostly to what we would have done
01:38going out. I think we'll still do those things because the tour group is people
01:43that have not been to Australia before so they'll still go out and do things but it
01:47may curtail where we go and what we do in terms of whether we drive or you know yeah.
01:53Well yeah I was originally planning to go over rural areas you know around surrounding
01:59Adelaide, Melbourne just to get to know more about Australia. I've been here in Canberra
02:04for four years so I just wanted to know a little bit more but now if I make the trip
02:10probably gonna stay there forever until the war is over. So definitely not a good plan
02:14and not a good idea at the moment. Yeah especially like petrol-wide I know that you know grocery is
02:22gonna go
02:23like up as well in prices. So not only do I have to budget for petrol, I only have
02:29to budget and plan ahead for you know food increase as well.
02:44So as you can hear a lot of people's plans have changed so the cost of living and the fuel
02:48prices
02:49are affecting a lot of people. Hopefully things can change and turn around so people can enjoy their holiday.
