00:00With the crime scourge continuing to harm and traumatize the population,
00:04the role of religion, including that of the church, is being brought more and more into the discussion.
00:10While the TNT Police Service, in furtherance of its community-oriented approach to crime prevention,
00:15has met with the National Congress of Incorporated Spiritual Baptist Organizations of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:22The TDPS terms it a renewal of the partnership between the two entities,
00:26signaling their commitment to national safety and social stability.
00:30The meeting was headed by Police Commissioner Alistair Guevara at a police administration building,
00:35where there was an agreement for the establishment of a joint working council
00:40to engender positive change in the 10 policing divisions.
00:44According to the TDPS, between 2023 and 2025,
00:48several national open-air prayer service missions were hosted throughout these divisions
00:53and expanded intercorrectional facilities.
00:57The plan is to have a visible presence in communities through activities such as prayer services, marches and processions.
01:04The intention is to promote peace, unity and a collective rejection of criminal activity.
01:10Guevara is welcoming the ongoing relationship as he encourages religious and non-religious groups
01:15to join hands with the TDPS to mitigate crime.
01:18It is also hoped that the TDPS's collaboration with the Spiritual Baptist Congress
01:24will strengthen public trust, enhance cooperation and improve national security outcomes.
