00:00so i think one of the things you're going to see some parallels is it feels like what we want
00:05out
00:05of the rangers offense is very similar to what we wanted out of the cowboys defense can you get
00:11to the middle of the pack and that seems to be what people really want so i'm going to run
00:17down
00:18the ideal at least at this moment what it appears like batting order is going to be although as we
00:26can talk about there's already some people making some pushes here in spring training but
00:30lead it off with nimmo and then go langford seager jock peterson at four jake berger josh young josh
00:39smith danny jansen although i obviously with hikashioka you can see that switch out quite
00:45frequently and then evan carter so i have a couple of questions to go along with that but just when
00:51you hear that do you see the potential to be middle of the road which at this moment
00:56is all we're asking um yes i know what all of those guys are mostly capable of right like we
01:03know what they're capable of north and south kevin good and bad right uh and i just don't think that
01:09they can be as bad as consistently as they seemed last year so i think that we're going to get
01:14somewhere in between and if you can get a good cory hey kevin we watched him in there playing some
01:19ping pong he looked fantastic he was he was flying all over the place he's limber it was a powerhouse
01:24doubles matchup of cory seager and jacob de grom against white langford and jake berger yes yeah
01:31i believe the seager and de grom team was victorious okay that makes a little bit of sense
01:35with uh de grom being a very accurate pitcher uh and he has you know he small targets he's aiming
01:40at all the time he gets competitive yeah those dudes were competitive white langford looks amazing
01:45right now like that dude looks completely jack so kevin whenever i think of what he his next step is
01:51and then what his progression as his career goes on here is i do see an offense that i can
01:57get
01:57excited about if they can i want to ask this some of the hitters this question when you when you
02:04get
02:04on base is that still fun for you just getting on base okay because rebinding guys that it's fun to
02:11get a hit and be on first and look around know that you have an opportunity now to round the
02:15rest of
02:16these bases in some way you don't know how it's going to happen it's going to unfold right before
02:20your eyes but if everybody on the team in an inning gets a couple hits it puts runs on the
02:24board and
02:25that's an energy thing man that thing starts flowing and yesterday whenever we got on the
02:29elevator i got on the elevator with a couple of fans that were at this game yesterday and i was
02:33like did
02:33we win they were like oh my gosh we had an amazing inning and those things liven up a crowd
02:38liven up a fan base liven up the the dugout okay so then i want you to keep that in
02:43mind and just
02:44envision the exact same lineup i just told you but langford makes the leap from good to great
02:50then this thing is going to be very dangerous and then you wonder about the trickle down effect not
02:56so much for cory sear like i mean i think we all know what he can do but the trickle
03:00down effect
03:00potentially for peterson burger and young um when you say trickle down you you're talking about
03:07protection yeah and like exactly and hopefully having hopefully quite frankly having more people on
03:12base yeah langford's on base hello pretty bird if why langford's on base uh we we were just talking
03:19last week with tim kirkchen about it and and i love the way that he was talking about seager saying
03:24he just runs violently you know the way that that why langford runs he gets on first he's looking to
03:30be at second like this dude yes so kevin that dude is going to put pressure uh on every pitcher
03:36if
03:36he's on base and with those kind of guys behind him it allows them to be a little more selective
03:41with the pitches that they're going after and be able to really drive them because they know this
03:45dude can wheel from first to home uh in a double in the gaps now another player that we need
03:51to talk
03:51about it's kind of had that osuna vibe early in spring training is cam collie so cam collie hit a
03:59home run against logan gilbert all-star and he has been raking man and he's got an ops above 1
04:09.1 i can't
04:10remember i think it's like 1.117 he's hitting 364 with five extra base hits and eight games
04:18and his average exit velocity is 96 miles per hour now remember for osuna it took a minute
04:24to really see him be up with the big club and get any time so i'm not saying that collie
04:30is
04:30automatically going to be in the lineup but that's something to keep an eye on because early in spring
04:34training he looks awesome okay that's a good question kevin i know you're talking about a very
04:38young player who yes i've seen like yes you it seems like every time i look up he's got another
04:43double and then you look at his like career stats in the minor league so far and you're like he's
04:48maxed out about 17 doubles that's awesome it's really good uh but this is a doubles hitter kid
04:53and i'm loving what i'm seeing and hearing out of him right now uh but i do wonder new club
04:59manager
05:00new group if they look at things a little differently and some of these guys that have had do you
05:06have a
05:06shorter leash with some guys that you've been like okay man we've given you every opportunity uh
05:11we're here to win right now and that is that mindset of if if that's where skip is and he's
05:17turning things on as he goes i'm gonna i'm ready to go give some of these younger players some more
05:22opportunities again it could be a while it could be a while by the way alejandro osuna since we were
05:27making the comparison there he left yesterday to go join team mexico for the world baseball classic
05:34and you know save your best for last before that he hit a 111 mile per hour exit velocity single
05:42off of uh carlos duran with a runner on second to give the rangers a lead or extend out their
05:50league
05:50their lead so he's had a slow start to the spring but i'm sure we'll talk about with skiff schumacher
05:56kind of the maybe did the fragmentation into three pieces of spring training and maybe you're not quite
06:02to the place right yet where you're like oh no he's not doing so well yeah so they don't does
06:07it
06:07open up an opportunity for some other players though for sure there's there's now there's reps
06:11that are available yeah absolutely because i mean like depending on how they do you know he'll be gone
06:15like a week two weeks and is that an opportunity for somebody who's like no no no no no consider
06:23me
06:23as the fourth outfielder or obviously you hate to say this but unfortunately every team in major league
06:30baseball will probably deal with some sort of annoying injury and yeah exactly and i mean you've
06:36already started to see that potential with the uh with the rangers and then will that provide
06:41even more of an opportunity right there so another thing that i want to bring up by the way that
06:48was
06:48the update we got on saturday josh young grade one abductor strain and then justin foskey back with
06:56that hamstring and remember he wanted to go back in the game and skip said they'd both probably be
07:01out about give or take 10 days so you're still looking at maybe next tuesday for when they're
07:06back out there and for foskey he needs to be out there when it comes to foskey yes he absolutely
07:11does
07:12for josh young it's a frustrating thing as you said annoying uh in those instances i um i wonder kevin
07:20this is a back to the 111 mile an hour single well is there ever a number where coaches like
07:26maybe
07:26don't hit that one so hard uh you know let's let's next time if you're going to hit 111 or
07:31115 120
07:33put that one over the fence you know if you if you hit 111 115 and you're only getting a
07:38single
07:38it means it got to the wall too fast all right it really got to where it was going quickly
07:42so maybe
07:43we take a little off next time you know what no kevin no coach i was gonna say i think
07:47you should
07:47actually ask schumacher that because i was thinking as long as you keep it low they're probably
07:51stoked about it but now that you mention it like that i'm like he's like maybe they do think that
07:56every time yeah i don't know it was always mike's best advice is throw hard hit hard yeah you know
08:02if you're gonna get up there and pitch throw hard yeah no absolutely absolutely now i wanted to throw out
08:09about on base okay like specifically once you have people on base and so it looks like the rangers are
08:16trying to be more aggressive on the base paths and obviously that theoretically could help your
08:22offense at least if you're good at it but according to stat cast last year the rangers were tied for
08:2714th in base running run value you know what their run value was zero so not good not bad zero
08:35no
08:35runs added though no runs taken away that's middle of the pack exactly so if you can be just a
08:41little
08:41bit better you're in the you're in the good well and see in good range that's true but think about
08:47this or does it just depend on whose stats you keep so you know i just told you stat cast
08:53is like
08:53now it's a zero fan graphs says they had 5.6 runs added which would be ape so like that's
09:01kind of tough
09:01because a lot of this information like we talked about is proprietary and people use uh different
09:06formulas to figure it out so they're either between yeah they're all right they're pretty good
09:10to their middle of the road so either way it looks like they're going to try to be more aggressive
09:19and
09:19this is another thing we can ask the manager about but schumacher said being a really good teammate is
09:24how hard you run the bases oh for sure and i and i like the bases like wyatt langford yeah
09:29and it was
09:30like when uh uh you know last week at the combine with will mcclay when they were talking about how
09:37can you tell if a player loves football one of the things he said to sean and rj it was
09:41like you can
09:42tell by the tape and like that's part of it he had a much more elaborate answer but that was
09:47part of
09:47is you can tell by the tape and so i like that like simplistic quick hit part of it before
09:52he expanded
09:52and same thing with schumacher is how hard do you run the bases that being said we still want
09:57cory seager to run as hard as he can uh yeah single or a home run just okay yeah because
10:04that
10:04exit velocity is too high station to station we're uh we're good with you here yeah exit velocity is
10:09way too high and i know i know fans have talked about it but doesn't it make you nervous every
10:14time he legs it out to first or second and i mean like he's really hustling and you're like oh
10:18crap
10:18yeah how much did he stretch today uh by the way regarding josh young and justin foskey our injury
10:24report brought to you by wild fork uh don't panic i am pan don't panic it's gone um it was
10:31b it was
10:31in here kevin by the way it looks like uh rapaport got the compensation way off oh uh compensation for
10:38david montgomery the texans are sending offensive lineman juice scruggs a fourth rounder and a seventh
10:43rounder to detroit for david montgomery so that's oh that's a quite the haul yeah that is that is a
10:49good
10:49bit different that is a good bit different than the uh fifth rounder right there isn't it
10:56interesting interesting all right can i bring up one more person sure dude all right sam haggerty
11:02thus far has gotten off to a strong start in surprise as well and that's one of the things i
11:10know some people will say like well does he have an immediate path to breaking camp with the team and
11:15i totally get that and i could see how that could be difficult although maybe the injury vibe is kind
11:21of changing it up just a little bit but he has gotten off to a really hot start and you
11:26know what
11:26he does well hit left handers so last year he had an ops of 8 11 against southpaws now i
11:35realize we've
11:36only seen a handful of games here in spring training but his ops against left handers in spring
11:42is 1.8 11 so like that would pretty much be the greatest season in the history of baseball but
11:49again i realize it's just a handful of games but you're just going to carry over you no not at
11:53that
11:54exact level and we can interview sam haggerty and you could tell him that i said we won't carry over
11:59a one point i want to say two things one he says nobody can win 162 games two he didn't
12:05think you can
12:05hit a 1.81 the rest of the year okay and again i'll say that will go down it's the
12:10greatest season in the
12:11history of baseball but the point is you're seeing the care over carry over consistently
12:16against left handers which continues to be a question for not only evan carter i actually
12:21think there's a couple of other people in this lineup that you might have the same concerns about
12:26ISOFEL
12:262 ISOFEL
12:262 ISOFEL
12:264 ISOFEL
12:264äm
