00:02After ICE agents showed up at airports Monday, the political fight behind it seemed to be escalating.
00:08But now there are signs of movement after late-night talks at the White House.
00:12President Trump is telling Republicans to hold the line in his standoff over Homeland Security funding
00:18and tie any deal to his voting bill, the Save America Act.
00:22Senators met with Trump at the White House late Monday and say they worked through the night on a new
00:27proposal.
00:28Negotiators are expected to present a written plan later today.
00:32Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer says talks are continuing,
00:35but blames Trump for stalling a deal that would get TSA workers paid and ease long airport lines.
00:43So, Donald Trump, the more you keep ICE agents at our airports,
00:47the more you will be reminding people of how much chaos and fear ICE has already caused.
00:53It's a terrible idea that could backfire on the country and on Donald Trump.
00:59It's a simple solution, Donald Trump.
01:02Pay the TSA workers.
01:04The partial shutdown has left tens of thousands of Homeland Security workers,
01:10including TSA officers, working without pay for more than a month.
01:14At the same time, ICE has continued operating with separate funding.
01:17The White House says immigration agents are now helping at airports to move security lines
01:22and support TSA staffing shortages.
01:25The proposal, now under discussion, would fund most of Homeland Security, including TSA,
01:31but leave out ICE's enforcement and removal operations.
01:35It would also add new limits on immigration enforcement,
01:38including requirements for body cameras and identification.
01:42Democrats say they're willing to fund most of Homeland Security,
01:46but not immigration enforcement without policy changes.
01:49Republicans say everything needs to be funded together.
01:52And Trump is urging Republicans not to cut any deal unless it includes his election bill.
01:57And we want the public to know we're not going to let them out of this trap that they created
02:02for themselves.
02:03And I'm suggesting very strongly that the Republicans, in going for the Save America Act,
02:11that you you welded into exactly this, because voter ID is part of Homeland Security.
02:18You don't have to take a fast vote.
02:20Don't worry about Easter going home.
02:22In fact, make this one for Jesus.
02:25OK, make this one for Jesus.
02:27That's what I tell him.
02:29For now, talks are active, but with no deal yet,
02:33the shutdown and the airport disruptions are still ongoing.
