00:07Yeah.
00:09Yeah.
00:34Just turn on your gas, no mess!
00:37Woo!
00:38Woo!
00:39Number one!
00:40Got a gas!
00:40Number one!
00:41Victory lap!
00:42Victory lap!
00:44Will you push me back in?
00:49Woo!
00:50Right now on Fast and Loud,
00:53Hot Rod Hunter Richard Rollins and the Gas Monkey Crew,
00:57hit Reset on the 67 Firebird.
00:59Get it done, guys.
01:01But delays cut into their schedule.
01:03I don't know about his side, but my side looks great.
01:05This sucker's heavy.
01:06The weight of one project could bring the mechanics down
01:09and have the paint shop singing the blues.
01:12That is horrible.
01:13He's Richard, and I hate blue.
01:15And then, Richard finds three reasons to fall in love.
01:19It is ridiculous.
01:20Do you get enough leg in there?
01:22Never enough leg, Tony.
01:23Plus, when the guys go on a mission
01:25to rescue a rare VW.
01:27Looks like it's gonna rain.
01:28It's Richard, who's all washed up.
01:30Ah!
01:35God, I can, like, feel my eyelashes melt off.
01:38That idiot.
01:43That's why he's been so grumpy.
01:45Yeah, I felt like something was weird today.
01:48Something was a little off.
01:49The monkeys are in the middle of building a 1967 Firebird,
01:52but Mother Nature slammed the brakes on getting the body
01:54to the sandblaster.
01:55And I'll get to that roadblock in a Texas minute.
01:59What's up with this?
02:00The whole saga began a while back on my other show, Garage Rehab.
02:04This is yours?
02:05Un-frickin'-believable, man.
02:07That's when I snatched up a white 67 Firebird for $10,000.
02:14What do you think about this sweet-ass cream puff?
02:16I checked the market for convertible Firebirds,
02:18and done right, they're going for about $40,000 to $75,000.
02:23With only $10,000 in it to start,
02:25it made perfect sense to pre-order a ton of expensive parts,
02:28then set the monkeys loose and get it built in 10 days.
02:31The plan was perfect.
02:32Big motor, new suspension, fresh paint, wheels, tires,
02:35sell it for a sweet profit.
02:37Boom!
02:37Money's in the bank.
02:41But a quick flip soon turned out to be a colossal headache.
02:44It's been hacked up.
02:45We cannot put this car back together.
02:47This car has to go to scrap.
02:48This is a donor car.
02:49Well, it didn't drive bad.
02:50We cannot put our name on this car.
02:53We didn't have the solid car I thought it was to start with,
02:56but with thousands of dollars in new parts already on the way,
02:58I needed another 67 Firebird convertible pronto.
03:03Cue my fixer Russell to come to the rescue.
03:06What'd I buy this for?
03:07$25.
03:07$25.
03:08He found the right car at the wrong price,
03:10another $25,000 out of my pocket.
03:12Already got a motor coming, transmission.
03:14Everything is already on its way here.
03:16And time is money,
03:17so I didn't give back the three days we wasted,
03:19and the monkey's got seven days to build it.
03:23But then even the weather was against me.
03:25I don't think we're going anytime soon.
03:28Doesn't look like it.
03:29The body couldn't be sandblasted
03:30because of the danger of moisture causing flash rust.
03:33So the weather's gone,
03:34and the body went to the sandblaster,
03:36and I'm going to go have a beer.
03:37And when I get back,
03:38they better have something to show for it,
03:39or I'm going to be out $35,000.
03:44Firebird's here.
03:49Whew.
03:50It's not horrible.
03:53It's better than the other one.
03:54Dude, I'm going to tell you,
03:55we're miles ahead where we were on the other one.
03:58Still has a floor.
03:59Yeah.
03:59You know, a couple of small rust spots in the hidden areas,
04:01but compared to the other one, it's pretty solid.
04:03Yeah, I'm not hating it.
04:04Firewall looks really good on this car,
04:06unlike the other one.
04:06We don't have any rust around the windshield trim.
04:09No, it looks good.
04:10Much better this time.
04:11Much better car.
04:12All right, cool.
04:12Now I got a week to finish it.
04:15Whole week?
04:15Seven days, get it done.
04:17I got to meet Dennis to see a man about a VW van.
04:19Okay.
04:20Corners are still kind of
04:22replacing these, or what do you want to do?
04:24No, we just don't have time.
04:24Here's the plan.
04:25You and Jeremy are going to tackle the wheel tubs.
04:27Do all the prep work we can before it goes to you.
04:29Put your suspension on so you can set your doors
04:31where they're going to be in your fenders.
04:32I know it's going to take a little more time,
04:33but that's the best way you're going to have to block the car.
04:36I think with a convertible, that's a good idea.
04:37Do we decide once we have all the weight,
04:39you need to put subframe connectors or no?
04:40I think we do.
04:41Just simply because of the power this motor has now.
04:43The Butler is a 600 horsepower motor.
04:45It's going to have at least 550 at the rear.
04:47Applying all that horsepower
04:48is going to make the car want to twist and flex,
04:50especially on a convertible.
04:51So we're going to add subframe connectors
04:53to connect the subframe to the unibody
04:55to stiffen it up and make it handle way better.
04:59It's too bad we got a badass Butler motor
05:01for a silly convertible car.
05:02Top goes down, price goes up.
05:04That's what he's hoping for,
05:05because he's going to need it.
05:06That's what he always wants.
05:06Let's get this thing started.
05:07Cool.
05:23Hey.
05:24What do you think?
05:24I like this one.
05:25Actually, I like the flat.
05:27You like the flat?
05:28I kind of like the flat.
05:29Yeah, I do, too.
05:30For the Firebird, Richard started out wanting copper.
05:34For some reason, this car tells me it wants to be like a copper brown color.
05:39Then he asked for gunmetal gray.
05:40I want to go with a combination of gunmetal black and that bronze on the wheels.
05:45Why aren't we kind of gunmetaled out right now?
05:48And as much as I like games, guessing what Richard wants isn't fun anymore.
05:54I heard y'all got some paint samples for me for this Firebird project.
05:57Oh, yeah.
05:58That way.
06:00I'm sure you're going to love it.
06:02Well, he did what I said.
06:03What's up, Mike?
06:04What's up?
06:05You did not do what I said.
06:06What do you mean?
06:07That is horrible.
06:09This is kind of where I was going, but I was thinking more gray and this has got more green
06:14in it.
06:15This is not what I'm looking for.
06:16Okay.
06:17What are you looking for?
06:19I want to lean more gray.
06:21Okay.
06:21I like a darker gunmetal, but flat.
06:26That leads to another round of spray outs.
06:29I think I like this gray.
06:30Well, that gray is as plain charcoal as you get.
06:33It's basically black and silver.
06:35I'm not fired up for any of this right here, really.
06:38What are some other choices?
06:39Yeah, I can shoot you spray outs for days and days and days.
06:42How long do you want to tell me?
06:42We don't have days and days and days.
06:43I know.
06:44So what do you want me to do?
06:45Which just goes to show that Richard is one of those people who doesn't know what he wants until you
06:49show them.
06:49Well, I'll show him.
06:52Ready?
06:53Richard won't know what hit him when I show him this color.
06:56I think it's great.
07:07That's an I, not a Y.
07:09Tokyo.
07:11I have a stinking suspicion that you're taking me to some backwoods area.
07:15Dennis had the bright idea to come down here to Tokyo, Texas,
07:18which there is actually in Tokyo, Texas,
07:20and buy a car that's been sitting in the woods for, well, since 74.
07:24There's a 21 window bus like in the middle of the 168 acres.
07:30Like in the trees?
07:31Yes.
07:31Real Samba, dude.
07:34VW started making Sambas back in 1951.
07:37They were sort of the luxury version of the VW van and came with 21 or 23 panoramic windows.
07:42They're a kitschy, cool collectible that for reasons way beyond me can sell for a heck of a lot of
07:47money.
07:47Fully restored, I've seen them top 300 grand at auction, and that's 300,000 reasons to hike through a briar
07:52patch to have a look at one.
07:54We're not going after, like, another galaxy, are we?
07:56Because I bailed on that deal.
07:57Oh, it's worse than the galaxy.
07:59That sucks, man.
08:00This isn't the first time that Dennis has brought me out on a wild goose chase.
08:03There was that Holy Grail Q code galaxy in Indiana.
08:06Is that it?
08:06Wow.
08:07That's it.
08:08It looks like a worthless pile of rust.
08:09All right, this thing will buff out.
08:11Deal.
08:1112-5.
08:12We dragged it out of there, shipped it back, and I got cold feet.
08:15This is my Holy Grail, Dennis?
08:17You just want your money back?
08:18I'll take it.
08:18I sold it yesterday for $21,000.
08:22I got out of the deal, and he ended up selling it and making some money.
08:26I'm not going to leave any money on the table on this one.
08:28I'm here.
08:29Let's get it done.
08:30Dude, I don't want to go traipse it through the woods again.
08:33He said he graduated in high school in the late 60s and parked it there.
08:37So we're going to try to pull this right here.
08:39Whoa.
08:42168 acres?
08:43You can't even see the car.
08:45Like, you'll walk for hundreds of yards before you can even see it.
08:47I'm starting to hear the theme from Deliverance back here.
08:53Let's go see him.
08:54Get my glasses here.
08:57Way down this trail out in the middle of nowhere.
09:00Let's go.
09:02It's the thrill of the hunt.
09:03It's the thrill of the chase.
09:04I mean, where are you going to find a 21-window bus that's been sitting outside since 1974 in the
09:09middle of nowhere?
09:10It's probably in the middle of nowhere because that's where it deserves to be.
09:13So what was the story with it?
09:14He drove it in high school?
09:16Had it in high school.
09:17Drove it out here and just left it.
09:19This Volkswagen bus has been here a long time.
09:21That's a lot of history.
09:22And it's got a title.
09:23So there it is in all its glory.
09:27Dude, look at this bus.
09:29Is that cool?
09:31It is, but it's quite rusty.
09:35Patina, Richard.
09:36It's a Texas VW, man.
09:42These little thorny things are thorny.
09:44Yeah.
09:45If you had real jeans on instead of those designer jeans, they wouldn't be poking you.
09:51Dennis, I don't know about this, man.
09:53I knew this would freak him out, Chris.
09:55What's wrong?
09:56This van actually looks like a cheese grater.
09:58Like a rusty old cheese grater.
09:59It's got more holes in it than I got.
10:02I don't even have a freaking analogy for that.
10:05And this is coming from Captain Patina.
10:07There's not anything left of it, hardly.
10:09When was the last time you found one?
10:11I haven't ever found one.
10:13Look at the tree.
10:14The tree grew open with the door open.
10:16What does he want for this?
10:17Like $4,500.
10:19You've got to be kidding me.
10:25Woo!
10:26Coming up on Fast and Loud.
10:28This is safety first.
10:29The VW van could leave Richard all washed up.
10:32Yeah.
10:33And...
10:34What do you think?
10:35Mike makes a risky proposition.
10:37I know you hate glue.
10:38Freaking hate glue.
10:39Done.
10:39My work for today is finished.
10:43There it is in all its glory.
10:46Dude, look at this bus.
10:47It's, uh, quite rusty.
10:49Look at the tree.
10:50The tree grew with the door open.
10:52Dennis and Big Chris dragged me out in this field
10:54to take a look at a 1964 VW Samba bus.
10:57Or what's left of it.
10:59There's not anything left of it, hardly.
11:01Fully restored, one can be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
11:03But like this, hardly worth the trip.
11:05It is originally green on green, at least.
11:07Hey, what's going on?
11:08Hey, Rick. How are you, sir?
11:10Great.
11:10Where are your bridges?
11:11I don't wear bridges out here.
11:13My name's Rick Benner from, uh, Tokyo, Texas.
11:15My boys drug me out here because they said that you had some old Volkswagens.
11:19Yes, sir.
11:19What's the scoop with this one?
11:21I rolled it twice.
11:23My dad fixed it back up.
11:24And then I hit a pole in, uh, San Antonio.
11:27That's where I got the other dent.
11:28You're not a very good driver then.
11:30Not at all.
11:30All right.
11:32It's a nice looking car.
11:33It ran great.
11:34Had a good stereo in it.
11:36It's just that I have a misfortune of having wrecks all the time.
11:41Let's get a look at the front where you, uh, hit a pole.
11:43All righty.
11:44So I've wrecked pretty much every car that I've ever had.
11:48I'm only 67.
11:50The tree grew up, uh, with the door open.
11:52Well, that tree goes with it.
11:53Sometimes it's my fault.
11:55I'm not saying all the time, but everybody else will.
11:59You got some serious-ass thorns out here.
12:01Well, these are called briars, Richard.
12:04Richard, he's a city boy.
12:06He was talking snakes and varmints out here.
12:09What?
12:09That's what you got in the country.
12:11I wish a snake would have come out and hit his pants.
12:16So it's got a California bumper art.
12:18It's got the correct tags on it.
12:19Look, it used to have a spare on the front.
12:21Hmm.
12:22I always wondered how it is that people manage to hit the pole damn near center of the car every
12:25time.
12:26I was looking at this thing as, I do not know why I'm here.
12:29And Dennis is all just, check this out.
12:31Look at that.
12:32It's got this thing.
12:33I know they fixed these, and I know they restore them, but this one's gone.
12:37What do you mean, dude?
12:38It needs saving.
12:39You can't leave that here.
12:41It's rougher than a stucco bathtub.
12:43Oh, yeah.
12:44It's wrecked in the front, but it is a 21 window, bent windscreen Samba VW bus.
12:50Is it worth chasing?
12:53Absolutely.
12:5321 window.
12:55Everyone wants one.
12:56Doesn't matter how rough it is.
12:57I mean, you know what these things are worth when they're restored?
13:00About what it costs to restore them?
13:03Nothing.
13:04It may cost a little bit to get them restored or whatever, but then those things sell for
13:08anywhere from $150,000 to $175,000.
13:11I'm going to give you a good deal on it.
13:12Well, what is a good deal?
13:14$6,000.
13:15Oh, my goodness.
13:16No.
13:17I think this thing's worth about $20.
13:21Well, that's not going to happen.
13:22I agree $6,000 is too much.
13:25What about $45,000?
13:27You're going the right way.
13:28How long do we have to stand here to get you to $3,500?
13:31Not long.
13:33$3,500?
13:34$3,500.
13:35Deal.
13:35Are you serious?
13:36Before I could even say anything, Dennis is shaking his hand at $3,500.
13:41And we've got to dig it out.
13:42I don't get it, but I'm in.
13:43I've missed out on the galaxy, so I'll go in on it as long as you can dig it out
13:47of here.
13:47And it looks like it's going to rain.
13:54This is safety first.
13:58Safety third.
13:59I hear Chris with a forklift.
14:01Here comes the rain.
14:03I told you it's going to rain.
14:08I feel like Indiana Jones or something like that.
14:12Dennis and Chris found me an awesome 21-window Samba bus, complete with having to remove it from the woods.
14:19We can't get a grip is our problem.
14:21Oh, really?
14:22Damn it, it had to start raining, didn't it?
14:24Y'all can have my $1,200.
14:25I'm out.
14:26Fire.
14:27Done.
14:28My offer is officially off the table, and I'm going to go drink a beer.
14:31I'm taking my $1,200 back.
14:32It's your problem now, Dennis.
14:40I'm so tired of doing Sprouts.
14:42I think the car should have been blue from the get-go.
14:44And this is my last-ditch effort to try to pitch Richard to see if I can get it.
14:48So, hey, wish me luck.
14:50I'm walking into Richard's office, and I'm like, man, there's no way he's going to pick this.
14:54But I've often heard Richard say, you miss every shot you don't take.
14:58So I'm going to take the shot.
14:59What?
15:00I want to show you something.
15:02That's blue.
15:02I hate blue.
15:03I know you hate blue.
15:04I freaking hate blue.
15:05I understand.
15:05I understand.
15:06But everybody out here is hating the gray.
15:09Just look at it.
15:10Just take it outside and look at it.
15:12Jason, come outside.
15:13We're looking at colors for the El Fire Birdo.
15:16Yes, I need your help.
15:18At first, I show him the blue, and he hates it, which is the reaction I thought I was going
15:22to get from him.
15:23And then he started looking at it, and the gears started spinning.
15:27So I hold it back and let him check it out.
15:29You know, hey, what do you think?
15:31But we can't put a bunch of black on it then, other than the top being nice and clean.
15:36Everything else has got to go chrome and polished, a combination.
15:39And Jason has my back 100%.
15:41I like that color.
15:43Especially with the black and chrome we're going with.
15:45Good.
15:47Done.
15:47Really?
15:48My work for today is finished.
15:50Really?
15:50Yes.
15:52We're painting a car blue, and I actually decided to.
15:54And I think I got the guy that wants it.
15:56You don't even make the blue?
15:57He's good.
15:58Awesome.
15:58What?
15:59You got a witness.
16:08What is that?
16:09It's a strike, dude.
16:11You got your honey way up high in the back here.
16:14Recently, I went to Wyoming to see about a 79 Super for sale when Destiny struck.
16:18Uh-huh.
16:19I've been trying not to look at it.
16:20And then I saw it.
16:23This thing is just so crazy.
16:25And I'm like, don't look at it, Richard.
16:27Don't look at it.
16:27You'll buy it.
16:28I know you will.
16:28Just the paint work and stuff is so crazy cool.
16:31I told.
16:32I'll give you 10 grand for the pair.
16:34That's right, folks.
16:35My new badass ride has training wheels.
16:37Is it a kit, or did somebody make it?
16:39I don't really know.
16:40It seems like it's probably a kit.
16:42The VW track that I bought up in Wyoming just got here, and I can't wait to take it out
16:46for a cruise.
16:46But first, we've got to get it working properly.
16:48So I got a couple of things I need you guys to look into.
16:51Number one, there's a lot of slack in this throttle cable.
16:55Number two, it won't stay running.
16:57It'll get some gas, and then it's like, bleh.
16:59Then number three, I don't know what these three switches are.
17:02Just start attacking it front to back, because I want it to have a good bill of health.
17:05I wouldn't mind actually taking this out on the road.
17:07We don't know what it is.
17:08We just know that we've been tasked to fix it.
17:12Give it a once-over.
17:13I got to know what's going on with it.
17:14We sell quality stuff here at Gas Monkey.
17:19The electrical is disgusting.
17:22It was a complete rat's nest.
17:24It actually was a rat's nest.
17:26You guys are free.
17:28Tony brought us this Weber carburetor.
17:30Hopefully, it'll make it run a little better.
17:36Look at that. Bam.
17:53Tony, check this out.
17:54Oh, that's poopy.
17:56We have a really nice car here.
17:57It's not all rusty like our previous car.
17:59The problem is that someone did poor workmanship.
18:01The way the quarters got put on, I don't think they really knew what they were doing.
18:04But when we put a big motor into this car, the car wants to twist and get a little bit
18:08more crazy.
18:08And these weak-ass welds, things are going to start breaking.
18:11The more I looked at it, the overlapping of rusty parts over holes and whatnot,
18:17it was just the best idea to take them off.
18:26It's a little risky to cut off the quarter panels before the new ones get here,
18:29but we're behind.
18:30And any time spent waiting is just time wasted.
18:40Hi.
18:41I've got some good news for you.
18:43We need to get these quarter panels in so we can get them welded on and out the door.
18:46Hope they fit.
18:57This side looks good. Does that even fit too?
18:59I don't know about his side, but my side looks great.
19:02Woo!
19:03Coming up on Fast and Loud, it's all aboard the Firebird Power Train.
19:08Look at that.
19:10Then, Russell and Richard take his trike on a hike.
19:14It is ridiculous.
19:18Well, we're not doing donuts, are we?
19:24There's a lot more that has to go into this.
19:26You'll be amazed if we have everything organized, how quickly it'll go.
19:29We got the Firebird subframe back from the powder cutter,
19:32and I'm getting ready to install the wheel with brakes.
19:34We're getting down to the last few days before deadline,
19:36so every minute counts.
19:39You guys already have the RideTech coilover suspension put on.
19:47Russell and the turntable.
19:48Sorry.
19:48If I can get the subframe done today, we bolt that to the bottom of a painted car tomorrow
19:52and put the rear end on, possibly in 48 hours we can have a roller,
19:56and at that point they can begin body work.
20:00Now that we have the hubs on and the brake brackets that go behind the rotor itself,
20:05we're going to put our rotor on, and then brake calipers go on.
20:10That'll finish all the brakes and the steering on the car itself.
20:14What a setup.
20:17Motor.
20:17Hey, hey, hey.
20:19That's right on time.
20:20Dude, it is a beast.
20:22Huh.
20:23You know how valuable it is when they wrap it like this.
20:26Look at that.
20:27Woo!
20:28Dino's at 550 horse on pump gas.
20:32Pull the carb off, put an engine hoist on it, and drop it in.
20:35Since the Butler 467 motor came ready to install, we can fit it straight into the subframe
20:40and be ready for the headers and transmission.
20:43The subframe and everything attached to it will be one giant time-saving pre-built unit.
20:48Watch your jack stand.
20:49Right above it.
20:50You look like you're centered on that mount.
20:52Yes, sir.
20:53That's it.
20:53We're going to test fit these headers right now.
20:55If they're all clear, then we're going to get the transmission out and bolt it in.
20:58The trick with these headers is squeezing them in with a massive motor.
21:01When you up the horsepower, you usually lose a bunch of room in the engine bay.
21:05It's your Firebird headers, right?
21:07Mm-hmm.
21:07More power and more engine.
21:09They need to fit because there's no plan B.
21:11Right here, it's super tight, but it's not smashed into it.
21:14It's just tight.
21:15Okay.
21:15How's it about that transmission?
21:17Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo.
21:18Silver Sport transmissions that works with Butler guys.
21:21Since our car was an automatic originally, they gave us everything to convert this to the five-speed manual that
21:25we have now.
21:26You want to stab it right now?
21:27I'm with it.
21:31Got it?
21:32Yup.
21:32Okay.
21:37It's there.
21:38It's there, Jacob.
21:39Nailed it.
21:39A transmission is always finicky at install because the input shaft is dry as a bone, but that's just how
21:45it goes.
21:46Anyway, the last items to go on the subframe are the core support and the radiator from Ron Davis.
21:51And these things keep everything super cool with a motor that size in Texas.
21:55Yeah.
21:55And that's the big thing.
21:56And we're going to have AC.
21:57Yup.
21:57All that.
21:58So we're going to be pushing the limits of temperature on this thing.
22:00Once we get the radiator installed, we'll basically have over 20% of the car built just right here on
22:05the subframe.
22:06The next step will be to attach it to the unibody.
22:09Wow.
22:10Smooth as silk.
22:11Such a cool setup.
22:18Yeah!
22:19How's it born to be free?
22:22Don't get that.
22:23I'm not wearing this stupid thing.
22:26Three wheels on the floor!
22:32That's right, folks.
22:33My new badass ride has training wheels, and it's time to take her for our test drive.
22:39Forward.
22:45We are literally going to pop this thing up.
22:48I wouldn't want to do much with your weight.
22:50No, I wouldn't go up.
22:50We might go over.
22:51We will.
22:56It is ridiculous.
22:59Now in the 70s, the trike became kind of a craze.
23:02They were using Volkswagen frames and motors for the back and motorcycle front ends.
23:06And you can pile all your friends on there, or like my dad did, a couple good-looking chicks.
23:11I can see where you can get used to driving and have some damn fun.
23:14Oh, absolutely, right?
23:15What started out as a stupid fad became pretty cool, and I think it still is today.
23:20We're not doing donuts, are we?
23:24Get up, baby!
23:25Today, modern trike companies are a big business, which means I can make big profit, but I can't decide if
23:29I even want to sell it.
23:30I mean, now that it's running and I've ridden it, maybe I want to keep it and tweak some things
23:34and make it even cooler.
23:34I hope it didn't mess up your hair.
23:36It did.
23:37It's a silly helmet.
23:38It matches the bike.
23:40Well, then you should have worn it.
23:41No way, man.
23:42Look at that.
23:43We'll just put it right up there in the gleaming sunlight.
23:45That's a package.
23:46I think I'm going to keep it.
23:47There's no reason you need to keep that.
23:48I've wanted one of those forever, dude.
23:50Well, now you've had one.
23:51You've had your fun in it.
23:52You can go take it to lunch and that's it.
23:54If I keep it, great.
23:55If I don't, well, we'll see.
24:02We're good?
24:03Yeah.
24:03I feel really good about the subframe.
24:04I feel really good about the car now.
24:06Yeah.
24:06I mean, those quarters look unbelievable.
24:08Dude, the wheel tubs and everything.
24:09The guys did it all.
24:10What I'm thinking is we've got jack stands over there.
24:13We've got the subframe connectors laying there with the subframe.
24:15Let's just pick it up and carry it over.
24:17Whoa, I'm going to go back over here.
24:18No, no.
24:19You came in at the right time.
24:20I've already got gloves on.
24:21This works out perfect.
24:22He's trying to skate out.
24:22You want to carry it?
24:23You want to pick it up?
24:24Yeah, we're going to carry it over.
24:26What could it weigh?
24:26Hey.
24:27The Firebird deadline is almost here.
24:29Everybody grab a corner.
24:30It's all free.
24:30The goal right now is to marry the body with the new quarter panels to the subframe,
24:35which includes the front suspension, engine, transmission, and radiator.
24:39The two sections get joined by the subframe connectors.
24:41And then we'll have a rolling chassis that we can send off to Mike for paint.
24:44Is that it?
24:46This sucker's heavy.
24:47Yeah, it is.
24:48Well, what, can we start walking?
24:49Yeah.
24:52Literally, I'm going to drop this car.
24:53Yeah, it's heavy.
24:54Please don't.
24:55Don't drop it, Irv.
24:56It doesn't matter what kind of car we had.
24:57It was good or bad.
24:58Don't hit the jack stands.
24:58Watch out for those jack stands.
24:59Russell, you see a jack stand, right?
25:01Yeah.
25:01Where are we setting?
25:02Just all the way up.
25:02All the subframe.
25:05You guys, go ahead and...
25:06Can we set on anything?
25:08Keep going.
25:08Keep going.
25:10Okay, here we go.
25:10Okay.
25:11Here we go.
25:12All right.
25:12See that hole, Russell?
25:13Yep.
25:13Yep, there we go.
25:17Forklifts are super handy.
25:19Wait, forklift?
25:20Why didn't we use the forklift?
25:22Never mind.
25:23Next, we have to join the front and the rear
25:24with the subframe connectors.
25:26Everything has to line up dead nuts straight.
25:28Yeah, they do.
25:29I need to look and see how far off we are.
25:31Okay, the whole mid-body of the car,
25:34the whole ass of the car needs to come over to the passenger side.
25:36One of the biggest issues with a convertible car
25:38is that they like to twist under torque
25:40because there's no roof to stabilize the sheet metal,
25:42so the bottom of the car is going to rock left and right,
25:44and it is possible that it can twist and disfigure the car,
25:48causing your doors not to open properly,
25:49your fenders getting into your doors.
25:51With the motor that we've got in this car now,
25:52we went ahead and put subframe connectors
25:54to stabilize the frame on the body of this car,
25:56so it stabilizes the car itself with all that torque.
25:59I need the body on the ass end to come this way.
26:01Just watch out because it falls off that jack.
26:03I'm going to kick the jack over a little bit.
26:05Okay.
26:05You tell me when you're good.
26:08Okay.
26:09Just a little bit.
26:11That moved a little bit.
26:12Okay, hold that real quick.
26:13This thing actually can fall off the lift
26:14and crush those two guys.
26:16Yeah, you're good back there, I think.
26:17That may have given me what I need right there.
26:22That seemed like it did it or not?
26:24I'm pretty lined up.
26:25If you're good, then we'll grind them and weld them.
26:28With the connectors in line,
26:29we can get the car up in the air,
26:30grind down the bolt heads,
26:32and weld it all into place.
26:34Right?
26:35It's always so heavy.
26:36And why am I so short?
26:37Then we can install the quick performance rear end.
26:41And the RideTech rear suspension.
26:44Look at that.
26:46I like that.
26:47God, that's a hell of a setup though.
26:49Yeah, buddy.
26:51Woo!
26:52Coming up on Fast and Loud,
26:53the paint shop gets ready to sing the blues.
26:57Is it done yet?
26:58Yeah!
26:59And...
26:59Work it, work it.
27:00The trike goes up for sale.
27:02Or does it?
27:03Oh, no.
27:03We're not selling this.
27:04What do you mean you're not selling it?
27:06Y'all are crazy if y'all think I'm selling this.
27:10Didn't you want to paint this thing blue?
27:11Yeah.
27:12In the beginning?
27:12Yeah, exactly.
27:14Yeah, you could have been helping us sand.
27:16Yeah, that'd be great.
27:18Richard's been flying all over the map
27:20on what color he wants for this firework.
27:23I finally got him to land on a custom blue.
27:27Good.
27:28Done.
27:29My work for today is finished.
27:32Did he say do it?
27:33Yeah, do it.
27:36If he wants to do blue,
27:37I think we could have saved a lot of time
27:40had he just been a little open-minded to it in the beginning.
27:44But...
27:46He's Richard.
27:49I'll get a few coats of blue laid down,
27:51and then an extra generous coat clear
27:53before the car gets some dry time overnight.
27:54All right.
28:09Well...
28:09It's blue.
28:10It's blue.
28:12And I got a lot of trash in this one.
28:13But we're gonna buff it.
28:14I put an extra coat of clear on it.
28:17Just...
28:18Don't wink at me.
28:19It makes me feel so uncomfortable when you do that.
28:22Fine, I won't.
28:24Why don't you like my winks?
28:25Don't.
28:26It makes me feel uncomfortable.
28:27They're like manly bro winks.
28:28They're like bro fives.
28:28No, it makes me feel like you're trying to flirt with me
28:30and I don't like it.
28:31I'm not flirting with you.
28:32They're like bro fives.
28:32I know, but that's how I feel.
28:33Look.
28:34Look.
28:35No.
28:35No.
28:36See? No.
28:37Why do you open your mouth when you do it?
28:38It makes it even weirder.
28:39Is that what makes it weird?
28:40Yes.
28:41Like you wink.
28:42Mouth shut.
28:42Ready?
28:42Like it's hard for you to wink.
28:44See?
28:45You still wanna open your mouth.
28:46No, just stop doing it.
28:48Richard's deadline for the car is coming up fast.
28:50There's no time for a redo on this one.
28:53But he approved it, so I'm sure he'll like it.
28:55Is it done yet?
28:56We just painted it yesterday.
28:59I like the color a lot.
29:00Yeah?
29:01Yeah.
29:01I got some trash in it, but I put a lot of cokes of stuff on it.
29:04There is some trash in it.
29:05Is this called orange peeling?
29:07So all that'll go away.
29:08So all the texture and the trash when we color sand and buff it will go away.
29:12The term orange peel comes from, you guessed it, an orange.
29:15If you ever look at an orange, it has texture to it.
29:17It has little imperfections.
29:18What we do is we go back, we sand it, we sand it smooth, we polish all those sand marks
29:22out,
29:23and voila, you get a finished product that looks nice and flat and shiny.
29:30Hmm.
29:30I don't know, man.
29:32It is like freaking blue.
29:34I don't know if I'm a fan or not, to say the truth.
29:36It's one of those things, I think once it's all together, you're going to love it.
29:40It's your windshield post so you can see the chrome against this blue.
29:44And then the wheels are going to have a big chrome lip.
29:47Yeah.
29:47I think it'll look really good with the chrome and stuff.
29:51It's blue, though.
29:52That's Richard in a nutshell.
29:54It's what I do with it.
29:56I don't seem excited out there, audience.
29:58It's because I don't like blue.
29:59I like blue.
30:00He has on his morning hair.
30:02You guys killed it.
30:03Hey, Jason.
30:04Yeah.
30:06Did he like it?
30:07He winked back.
30:08See?
30:09I told you.
30:10He winked.
30:10Stop winking.
30:12Stop with the winking.
30:13The blue's great.
30:18Somebody can get their motor running, head out on the highway.
30:22Selling the death trap?
30:24Hell yeah, baby.
30:25Thank God.
30:26Tell me you got that dumb helmet in here, too.
30:29That's the accessory?
30:30Yeah.
30:30When we went for a ride, I had to wear this, mess up this head of hair.
30:33Wait, because you were on the back?
30:35Yeah.
30:35Oh, yeah, of course.
30:36Was Richard wearing a helmet?
30:37No, Richard wouldn't because he liked his hair looking.
30:39As a driver, you don't have to, yeah.
30:40No, he needs to look cool and make sure that I rode bitch.
30:43This is actually all you.
30:44This screams you, Tony.
30:46Have you sat on this yet?
30:47I'll hold your camera.
30:48I have.
30:48I fit right on it.
30:49This is me.
30:50Do you?
30:50This is you.
30:52Oh, dude, I would love to have this thing.
30:54Oh, yeah, work it.
30:54Work it, Tony.
30:55Come on.
30:56Yeah, work it.
30:57Work it.
30:59Work it.
31:00We're going to sell this thing so fast now.
31:02Yeah.
31:03Oh, come on.
31:04Do you get enough leg in there?
31:05Never enough leg, Tony.
31:07When do you think this is worth?
31:08Dude, I have no idea on these.
31:10I know you couldn't build one today for less than 10 or 12 grand.
31:13No matter who buys this, I am going to be so happy for them because I'll never have
31:18to ride on the back of this thing again.
31:20Hey, hey, hey.
31:20What's going on out here?
31:21We're taking some pictures and Tony's getting ready to get rid of this hunk of junk.
31:25Oh, no.
31:26We're not selling this.
31:26What do you mean you're not selling?
31:27Get out of the way, Tony.
31:28Y'all are crazy if y'all think I'm selling this.
31:30Besides that, Russell, man, you got some stuff to do, so get on.
31:33We'll go to lunch.
31:34Why can't we take the car?
31:36Why do we always have to take this thing?
31:38Because it's a beautiful day outside.
31:40Wait, do you need a helmet, Russell?
31:41No, I don't need a helmet.
31:43See?
31:44How cool is this?
31:45Yeah, really cool.
31:46Good job, ah.
31:47Now, that would sell that thing if we were going to sell it.
31:49Sell it in a heartbeat.
31:57Hey, watch.
31:58You don't pinch yourself.
31:58Yeah.
32:00Set it back, right, back down the rack.
32:01I forgot something.
32:02Okay, I'm going to go back on the rack real quick.
32:03I'm going to go back here.
32:04Hey, you guys did a great job, but we need to tape the chrome off because there is no
32:07insulation yet.
32:08Hopefully the second time we don't up, guys.
32:11Richard put us on an impossible deadline to finish the 67 Firebird, but the guys have
32:15been absolutely kicking ass to get it done on time.
32:17Oh, cool.
32:18That's awesome.
32:19What saved us was the parts arriving just in time when we needed them.
32:22Our suppliers have been outstanding.
32:23For basically instant turnarounds?
32:26Yeah.
32:2618s to the front, 20s in the rear.
32:29The wheels from American Racing will make the car look like the Super Wrestle mod it
32:32was meant to be.
32:33And just in time because here comes you know who.
32:36All right, somebody tell me something about something because this should be on the
32:39ground running.
32:40Yeah, we're pushing down here.
32:41We're trying.
32:42Actually, the car, once it has exhaust, it's ready to fire up.
32:44Okay.
32:45I feel really good about it.
32:46I'm not going to feel good about it until it's on the ground.
32:48Actually, I'm not going to feel good about it until it's sold.
32:50Because, you know, somebody talked me into painting it blue and I hate blue.
32:53It's a great color.
32:54Just get it done, guys.
32:55I might have a buyer.
32:57Is he gone yet?
33:03It's down to the final push.
33:05John's getting the wiring dialed in.
33:07We've got the new top on.
33:09And our buddy Emilio is here with our seats.
33:12Hey, look who I found wandering around outside.
33:15The new ultra leather interior is the right choice for a convertible.
33:17This is the same stuff they use in private jets.
33:20Comfortable, but durable.
33:22Done and done.
33:24All that's left now is to fuel this baby up and see if she fires.
33:28There you go.
33:29I get nervous every time we go to start a car.
33:32It doesn't matter if it's a brand new motor, a rebuilt motor.
33:34Are we ready to go?
33:35Remember you got a manual, but yes, moment of truth.
33:38Make it happen.
33:44Sounds like battery's a little weak.
33:45Yeah, that battery's way weak.
33:46Pump it.
33:47The first time is always there's so many things that can go wrong.
33:58That thing's a little nasty.
34:00Golly.
34:02Ah, that thing's rowdy.
34:04That was awesome.
34:06Once it warmed up, that thing was burning like a kid's.
34:08Oh, that thing sounded amazing.
34:10And as soon as I was able to give it some gas.
34:13No?
34:15What do you think, Tony?
34:17I think it sounds like it's faster than it is.
34:22Dude, we can't ask for more than that.
34:23That's great.
34:24That's awesome.
34:24Tony's excited.
34:25I can tell that's his excited face.
34:30Woo!
34:30Coming up on Fast and Loud.
34:33You gonna do a donut?
34:34The Firebird needs a buyer.
34:37This is gas monkey style.
34:39But will Richard be the one to pay the price?
34:42150.
34:43What?
34:45Look, Stevie, no hands.
34:49There he is right there.
34:51There who is?
34:51D. Marcus Ware.
34:52Denver Bronco Dallas Cowboy.
34:54What's up, man?
34:56Who knows about cars?
34:57What's up, man?
34:58I finally got the opportunity to come to a gas monkey.
35:00Man, this is like a man's dream.
35:03I'm a big fan of putting cars back like they were,
35:06but re-engineering them to be better.
35:08So what do you do when DeMarcus Ware,
35:10one of the all-time great Dallas Cowboys, calls you up
35:12and says he's thinking about having you build him a car?
35:14Well, you invite him over and hope he brings a pocket full of cash.
35:17This look of magic goes down.
35:19No!
35:20No!
35:20No!
35:21No!
35:22No!
35:23Four-link suspension, coilovers, wheel-wood brakes.
35:26It's got a punched-out Butler motor with about 560 horsepower.
35:29You put a fire-breathing dragon through something that'll make traction
35:32and put it on the ground.
35:33And now you're riding.
35:34We can build a car faster, better than anybody.
35:38The only time it's ever a crunch time is if Richard changes his mind
35:40about 800 times.
35:41And that happens all the time.
35:43You gonna blame that on Miller Lite.
35:44All right.
35:59The 67 Firebird project started out as a pretty good deal,
36:03especially since I got it as added value from a garage rehab project.
36:06I'm giving you 10 grand for it.
36:08That's worth way more than 10 grand.
36:10Like everything else, it's too good to be true.
36:12When we got it back, the monkeys found that the car just couldn't be built.
36:16We just need another car.
36:18Russ stepped in and saved the day when he found me a Firebird up in the New York area.
36:22And it was in great shape, and I got the team to work.
36:24I have no idea how to take us apart.
36:31When it came to drivetrain, holy cow, did we do it up?
36:34A 467 cubic inch Butler Performance V8 pumping the power straight through a Silver Sport 5-speed transmission.
36:43Bam! That's what I'm talking about.
36:49And when you're putting the rubber to the road, it's American Racing Wheels
36:52and a complete rear end from Quick Performance to keep all of it glued to the road with pinpoint handling.
36:58Now, when you've got to stop that movement, of course, wheel wood breaks.
37:01And when you want it to feel good, ride tech suspension and sway bars.
37:08The interior turned out great.
37:09Clastic instrument gauges, steel rubber products, weather stripping, and Vintage Air's AC system.
37:14And let's not forget Ron Davis Radiators keeping it all cool while we're out there in the sun.
37:19Now, when it came to color, I just couldn't make up my mind.
37:22First I wanted copper, then I wanted gunmetal, and then I settled on blue.
37:26We're painting a car blue and I actually decided to.
37:28I don't know what I was drinking that day.
37:33And you know what? It sure is blue.
37:35But if I find a buyer to fill my pockets full of green, blue is my new favorite color.
37:47Dude, you told me to call you when I had the car, and I know you used to have a
37:50crappy-ass Firebird.
37:51This is not a crappy-ass Firebird.
37:53Boom!
37:54This is a real Firebird.
37:55This is gas monkey style.
37:56Blue.
37:57I didn't realize I had these in my pocket.
37:59Stevie G's here, and I'm trying to sell you this car.
38:01Yo, man.
38:01I'm Steve Ganawea.
38:02I'm Richard's buddy.
38:03Met him a few years ago.
38:05Yes, my last name is Ganawea.
38:06So I just go by Stevie G.
38:08We've been good friends and drinking some beers and stuff, and he's like,
38:10call me whenever you have a car that you think I'd like because I want a cool sports car to
38:15drive around, and what happened?
38:16If he's calling about this car, he's a great friend because this thing's unbelievable.
38:20And I thought of you because it's blue, man. That's Detroit. That's where you're from.
38:23It is. It's Lions.
38:24And he was always telling me, well, you know, when I was younger, I had this Firebird, and if I
38:28could ever have another one, it'd be so badass.
38:30Every single screw is brand new.
38:32This thing is rad.
38:34AC, stereo, Bluetooth, all that stuff.
38:37The color scheme with the black top, the gray wheels, the lines on there, all the lines are straight, they're
38:42perfect.
38:42It's just a real tight look and a real clean look, which is something I've always wanted to have in
38:47my car.
38:48Boom.
38:49How's that?
38:50600-plus horsepower Butler, dyno-tuned, ran out.
38:54It's a functional Ram Air, too, right?
38:56Oh, yeah. Yes.
38:56So it'll get up and go.
38:57It was always telling me, when I was younger, I had this Firebird, and if I could ever have another
39:01one, it'd be so badass.
39:03So I'm like, Firebird, Stevie G, money, cool.
39:09You want to drop that top?
39:10That sounds pretty.
39:11Oh, yeah.
39:13Ooh.
39:14That's nice.
39:15This is the car for him.
39:16I just got to talk him into it, because shelling out $150,000 is not easy for anybody.
39:21And I did say $150,000.
39:22Parts and labor add up.
39:24Did you bring your sunglasses, son?
39:25We're going to go for a ride.
39:42Feels good.
39:43Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
39:44Can I do a donut?
39:45Oh, can I do a donut?
39:47Oh, yeah.
39:52Oh, yeah.
39:52Oh, yeah.
39:53Test ride was great.
39:54Horse car was there.
39:56The feel was there.
39:57An awesome ride.
39:58Look, Stevie, no hands.
40:00I took him for a ride, did some donuts, laid down some rubber, and you know, now if he buys
40:05it, it's going to have half-assed used tires on the back, but still for sale.
40:08Your hair hasn't moved a bit.
40:10So I'm short enough.
40:11Neither one of them.
40:12Shut up.
40:15I think it's worth more than six figures, but I've got 85 into this one, so I couldn't be staring
40:19at a loss.
40:21Looking down to money, Richard always wants to get top dollar first up, which he deserves it because of what
40:25he builds.
40:25You're going to pony up and buy this thing?
40:28What are we talking?
40:29150.
40:31What?
40:31Man, I can't do 150.
40:33My number definitely starts with a one, because this car will bring that at any auction on the interwebs.
40:37Right out in front of my shop, I could probably park it and sell it.
40:40They didn't want to stay under 100,000.
40:42We know that he's going to counter, and I'm going to counter, and we're going to go back and forth.
40:45The lower I start, the better off I'm going to be.
40:48105?
40:49That's a five?
40:50That's a one?
40:51105's a dumb number.
40:52For that, I'm going to 145.
40:56We got to go lower than that.
40:58130.
40:58Will you buy beer for the rest of the year?
41:00Any time we're together.
41:02I can do that.
41:03130.
41:04130.
41:05Done.
41:06Deal.
41:07At the end of the day, we settle at 130.
41:09Woo!
41:09Got my money.
41:10Gas Monkey gets paid.
41:11I got free beer for the rest of the year.
41:13And Stevie's got one hell of a car.
41:15Come on, man.
41:15My beer's here, only seven bucks a piece.
41:17Can I put it on your tab?
41:18No, they're going on your tab.
41:25And that's how we do it at Gas Monkey.
41:27Sell your friend a car for a ton of money.
41:29There it is.
41:31It's now engaging.
41:32It's all food coloring.
41:32Growing Homeあぁ.
41:33There it is.
41:33It's timely as
