00:10They love the cool, tight corridor gameplay that's there.
00:13There's lots of little, small rooms to have really intense infantry fights in.
00:16So that's definitely, I think, a highlight for Haasen
00:18that players are going to be really stoked on.
00:20Well, we have a lot of sunshine on our other continents,
00:22so we thought it would be a good idea to have one
00:24that was a little bit better humidity.
00:27And Haasen was a continent from the original Planetside
00:29and it was one of players' favorite continents,
00:32so we definitely wanted to revisit that continent in Planetside 2.
00:34And of course it was a swamp continent in Planetside 1,
00:37so we needed to make sure that we kept that alive in Planetside 2.
00:40Our biggest challenge with Haasen was actually getting as many trees in it as we have.
00:44There's a lot of objects that make up Haasen
00:46and we wanted the foliage to be really dense
00:48and for it to feel really, really, really jungly.
00:52That many objects took our artists kind of a while
00:55to figure out how to make sure we could do all that
00:57and have it be, have the game run really well and also be fun.
01:02You know, the more objects we have,
01:04the more trees or bushes, things like that,
01:06we have to be really careful about how many of those we put in
01:09because we need to make sure that the game still runs really, really fast.
01:11So doing all that was really a challenge
01:13and I think the level designers and the environment artists
01:15have done an amazing job making sure that we get that dense jungle feel
01:19but still have levels that play well and run well in the game.
01:23So performance is always a big focus for us on the team.
01:25There's lots of people who play the game
01:27and have a tough time running it on their hardware
01:29and we know that it's definitely something that we want to improve
01:32and that we're always making efforts to improve.
01:35Right now we're kind of doing a really concentrated effort
01:37to make sure that the entire team is focused on doing performance
01:40and getting the game to just run faster on as much hardware as we can get.
01:44So players, especially players that are using AMD multi-core CPUs
01:48are going to see a lot of boost from it
01:49and, you know, these things take time.
01:52It takes a lot of time to do things like
01:54make better multi-threading in the game
01:56but it's very important
01:58and we're focusing the entire team on the effort right now
02:00so hopefully we'll start seeing some of that stuff very soon.
02:02I think when you're pushing the envelope
02:04as much as Planetside is
02:05in terms of what the game is doing
02:07I think everyone has to remember as well
02:09you're playing with thousands of players
02:10with aircraft, tanks, everything on one continent
02:13and, yeah, I think it's amazing
02:16what you guys have achieved so far with this
02:18and we look forward to any updates
02:20that we can have there
02:21just to bring more players into the game to enjoy this.

02:24Yeah, that's our biggest goal
02:25is we want everybody to be able to experience
02:27what this kind of massive scale FPS gameplay can be like
02:29and like you said
02:30I mean, there's not a lot of other games in the world
02:32where a thousand players can be fighting against each other
02:34in one base.
02:36Yeah, exactly.
02:37A single finger
02:38you can count the number of games where that happens.
02:40So, yeah, I mean
02:41while performance we know is an issue
02:43we are absolutely pushing the envelope in a lot of ways
02:45and we're doing things on the PC
02:47that no other game has ever tried to do
02:48so we're learning a lot about ways to make it faster
02:51and make it better
02:52and the programmers have a lot of really good ideas
02:54on ways to make the game run better for everybody
02:56so
02:57The Bastion Fleet Carrier
02:59it's definitely something we've talked a lot about
03:01having outfits be able to basically build their own mothership
03:05essentially
03:05and configure it
03:07kind of like an outfit base that they can use
03:10it's not something that we're working on actively right now
03:12but it is a concept that we have
03:14for a future addition to the game for sure
03:16Implants are going to be a pretty exciting gameplay addition to the game
03:19Implants give players a small bonus
03:22for a limited period of time
03:24right now we're revamping the Implant design to make it based on gameplay a little bit more
03:29so for instance when you're running around capturing a base
03:32or you destroy a vehicle
03:33you'll have a chance to get an Implant for completing that action
03:36it'll just basically be a random chance to get one
03:40so like a loot drop basically
03:41yeah similar to a loot drop
03:43it won't actually drop on the ground
03:44you're not going to have to get it'll just show up
03:46but we're also doing some things like allowing you to take Implants that have dropped
03:49and use a combination system to be able to combine them together to get different types of Implants
03:54or even to have higher tier Implants
03:57so it should be really exciting and should add a lot of cool gameplay for players
04:00to be able to get Implants while they're just playing the game
04:03rather than just only having them available for certification points
04:08we actually have plans for a big volcanic continent
04:10so we're saving the volcano for Sirius right now
04:15but Amarish is going to get a similar treatment to what Esamir just went through
04:19and what Indar got a couple months ago
04:21so what we did is we went through every single one of the outposts
04:24every single one of the facilities
04:25and we really changed the way the layout for all those outposts was
04:29Amarish is going to be getting the same thing
04:30right now all the level designers and environment artists are very focused on Haasen
04:34and getting Haasen finished
04:35but immediately when they're finished with that
04:37they're going to be moving over to Amarish
04:39and making sure that Amarish has as good of facilities
04:41and as good of gameplay through all their outposts as Esamir does right now
04:45so the lattice system is something we just added
04:48to make sure that players are actually getting in larger scale fights
04:51some people don't like that they don't have the freedom to go anywhere
04:55and fight anywhere they want anymore
04:56and what we're planning on doing as part of our resource revamp
04:58is adding more small scale objectives
05:01that are not tied to the lattice that players can go accomplish
05:04so a smaller group of players is going to be able to go
05:08destroy somebody's resource nodes
05:09or destroy their harvesters
05:11to actually make an impact in the larger war effort
05:15without necessarily having to participate in a gigantic gigantic fight to do it
05:18that should allow us to still have all the benefits of the lattice system
05:22in other words really large scale fights
05:23the ability for defenders to actually hold a piece of territory
05:26and make sure that attackers can't get through it
05:28that's really what the lattice system allows us to do
05:30but it should give a lot more strategic options
05:33to our smaller group players
05:36and just people who want to maybe go
05:39do something before their outfit logs in
05:40and they don't want to have the big scale fight
05:42they want to just be doing some things behind the lines
05:44so we get the strategy plus we get the benefits of the lattice system
05:47and that's sort of our plan for that
05:48that's really cool
05:49because as we see a lot of outfits are breaking up their team into
05:53we have fighter squadrons
05:55we've got tank columns
05:57we've got everything there
05:58so I can see in future that we have these little small cells set up inside
06:03larger outfits for these guys
06:05that want to just play in a small maybe six man squad
06:07something like this
06:08and to capture these strategic points
06:10so that they have this impact on the larger war
06:14but they feel like they can actually contribute in a smaller squad
06:17that's really cool
06:18exactly we get to have the little commando squads
06:20to go out and do you know
06:22we need to have bandanas
06:24for this
06:25we've got to have those in there
