00:16I went to school for computer science, so I learned to be a programmer, and my junior year I went
00:23online looking for internships, and I emailed Dave, and he got back to me about ten months later.
00:30I came in and interviewed, and I got the job, and I spent my first few years with this company
00:34programming, and I was always design inclined, always picking apart how games worked, what was fun, what wasn't, and just
00:43ended up taking over design responsibilities on our projects.
00:51The number one challenge with Nazgoth over other games is we have to, you know, you always want the game
00:56to feel fair.
00:56I need to feel like I have a gun, you're really strong, and you're going to punch me in the
01:00face.
01:01What's the, like, if you kill me, I need to feel like I allowed that to happen. It was my
01:07fault in some way.
01:09So the biggest challenge is figuring out, you know, what's fair to people if I have a gun and you
01:14kill me, like, did you use your special ability to kill me?
01:18Did I just miss? If I'm the guy that doesn't have a gun, I need to feel like I can
01:22sneak up on you in some way and outsmart you somehow.
01:25So the biggest challenge is just figuring out, you know, how do we make both sides feel like they have
01:30a fighting chance,
01:31feel like they didn't just die because the game decided they should die, because they actually did something wrong that
01:37they can learn from.
01:43I don't have a favorite, and I love all my children equally, I guess you would say, but I'm probably
01:48the best at the scout,
01:51just because I've played them a lot and I've gotten pretty good at, you know, the sort of long-range
01:56sniper gameplay.
01:57I've played that in a lot of other games, so it's just a play style that appeals to me, I
02:02guess.
02:08Traditionally, I've been a big RPG fan, so I grew up playing your Final Fantasies, online role-playing games.
02:15I was a huge EverQuest player, which derailed my entire middle and high school careers, World of Warcraft, a lot
02:22of that.
02:23And I've always been big into shooters as well, so I played a lot of Counter-Strike back in the
02:28day.
02:28These days I try to spread my time around a little bit more, looking at indie games and, you know,
02:33new ideas, things like that.
02:40One of our favorite things to do out here that we get made fun of a little bit is I
02:44play on a kickball team, adult kickball team,
02:47and it gets parodied a little bit in America now because it's like these adults playing kids' games,
02:52but it's a very low stakes, fun way to get out on a weekend and play a little bit competitively
02:59without injuring yourself.
