00:01:00So, you know, it's always interesting to see what mix, what people's favorites are, and that's really what it comes
00:01:06down to most of the time.
00:01:07It's just kind of like what people feel like playing most, like what their habits are and what their preferences
00:01:12are.
00:01:14Do you feel like you play a different character?
00:01:19Like, I have a few favorites, but like in Hunt, I'll play Maggie, whereas in Nest, I'll play Ape.
00:01:25Like, do you feel like you do something like that?
00:01:28Not for me, really. For me, it's more about what kind of mood I'm in and what I want to
00:01:32play.
00:01:32Fair enough.
00:01:33So, first mission's always Hunt, and it looks like they're starting on, this is the Distillery.
00:01:44Exciting. So, the modifiers for the map after this one are actually pretty cool, and we'll explore those after the
00:01:52game finishes, depending on who wins and who loses.
00:01:56There was Atronach in the chat, asks if Phil still loves peas. Yes. Yes, Phil still loves peas.
00:02:02And I think he's actually, he's in the chat, so Phil can answer himself.

00:02:10For anybody who just joined us, just came back, Chris Ashton is here.
00:02:15Yep, design director at Turtle Rock Studios and one of the co-founders. Phil and I are partners and own
00:02:21the studio. Kind of started up Turtle Rock 2.0, if you want to call it that, since splitting out
00:02:27from Valve back to our own independent studio again.
00:02:31Yep, so he is pretty much the best person to talk about how all this game works and all the
00:02:37intricacies that there are to it.
00:02:40So, we've got our hunters just jumping in, and they're going to be looking for the monster first off, because
00:02:45they want to catch him early before he gets a chance to get all beefy.
00:02:50Yeah. And he chose Goliath for this one, and interesting. Do we know who's playing on the monster?
00:02:58I don't know, we've got...
00:03:00Oh, here, Brill.
00:03:01Brill. Brill is one of our senior QA.
00:03:04That guy is incredibly sneaky.
00:03:06He is.
00:03:07I do not like playing against him as a monster.
00:03:09Yeah, it doesn't matter if he's playing monster or hunter. He's always that last guy standing. If he's the hunter
00:03:16and is the monster, he's very calculated.
00:03:19If you see birds go up, it's because he damn well wants you to see birds. So he's a fearsome
00:03:24opponent, and we'll hopefully see some cool strat out of him.
00:03:28Oh, they're on him already.
00:03:30They are on him. Do we have a dome yet?
00:03:33I don't think so.
00:03:34No, our trapper's getting a little slow.

00:03:47Yeah, so we, just to cover our players real quick, we do have Lars, is another of our senior QA
00:03:53gentlemen.
00:03:54We have Brandon, who some of you might know as Maniac Squirrel, and then we also have Oakley, who if
00:04:05any of you have seen Brandon's stream, you might know as the man with the very strange voice.
00:04:09I apologize that we can't bring you his audio, because it's ridiculous.
00:04:13And then the other person we have is, uh, anybody? No. All right, we'll get back to you about that,
00:04:23Forth Hunter.
00:04:23Anyway, so, Chris, do you want to explain a little bit of how evacuation works?
00:04:28Well, what we wanted to do, really, with evacuation mode was create a dynamic five-map campaign that was different
00:04:36every single time that you played it.
00:04:37So that was kind of the high-level goals, and so if we see, if you've seen an Evolve evacuation
00:04:44campaign before, uh, maybe in one of the 2K livestreams, chances are maybe they didn't start on this distillery map.
00:04:51So what we do the first round is we start on a, on a randomly chosen map, the computer chooses
00:04:55that map, and then we always play Hunt on that first one, just to, just to kind of get things
00:05:00started.
00:05:01Like a warm-up, kind of?
00:05:02Yeah, and then after that, because that's the most straightforward, kind of the foundation of, of what Evolve is, and
00:05:07then after that, uh, the players get the, get to vote, and what kind of mission, and what map they
00:05:13want to play next.
00:05:13It has to be a neighboring map, uh, for maps 2, 3, and 4, that's the case.
00:05:18And then, uh, map 5 is, uh, what we call defend scenario, and that's when the transport ship loaded up
00:05:26with all the colonists is trying to escape the planet, and, uh, the hunters are trying to protect it, so
00:05:32either the, either the ship escapes, uh, if the hunters win, or the ship gets destroyed, if the monster wins.
00:05:38Yep.
00:05:39Uh, and, uh, what, what, the cool thing about evacuation mode is that what happens, uh, who wins, uh, what
00:05:46maps people go to, and which ones they choose to play next, all those things affect the environment in visual
00:05:52ways, because what happens is the winning team, uh, carries an advantage, changes the environment, in a way.
00:05:58So, like, the map that we're playing now, distillery, if the hunters win this map, uh, what they make here
00:06:04in this map is a scent masking, uh, that they use for wildlife.
00:06:09Mm-hmm.
00:06:10Uh, that they use to protect themselves, so the wildlife is kind of like, imagine, like, like, deer hunting or
00:06:14something like that, like, you, you, you, you spray this stuff on you, and then the wildlife can't smell you.
00:06:18Uh, so that's what they make here.
00:06:20So, if the hunters win, then their ship will fly around and spray the surrounding environment with scent masking.
00:06:28And what that, what that, what that means is that the monster can't use sniff.
00:06:32Right.
00:06:32In the surrounding map.
00:06:33So, it's a huge advantage, uh, for the hunters.
00:06:36So, you'll see the ship flying around and it's spraying this orange scent masking stuff.
00:06:40Now, if the monster wins, what, what happens is the monster destroys the ship that's full of the chemicals, and
00:06:46the chemicals spill into the water, and it turns out, uh, when wildlife then drink that water, they become mutated.
00:06:54Right.
00:06:54And it's like, and it's like, and it's like, yes.
00:06:55Yes, it's like, um, wildlife, uh, uh, with rabies.
00:06:59They're, they're super aggressive.
00:07:01And so, uh, in the next map, in the surrounding environments, uh, in that scenario, blitz leopards, reavers, everything would
00:07:09be super aggressive and come after the hunters.
00:07:11Even if the monster's around, they're not scared of the monster, they don't run away.
00:07:14And their skins look a little different, so you can remember, like, if you've forgotten what the perk is, and
00:07:19you see a mammoth bird coming at you all lightning-y with, like, it's reddish, right?
00:07:23Yeah, they've got, like, sores and stuff on them, yeah.
00:07:26Yeah.
00:07:26So, uh, you can, you can tell it's, it's, it's upsetting as a hunter.
00:07:29I gotta say, just commenting on this fight real quick, um, I was really surprised to see Brill, uh, let
00:07:35himself go so far down, uh, on his health that, that round.
00:07:38The hunters must have really gotten the drop on him there, uh, because usually he's very good about running when
00:07:45his armor goes down.
00:07:46I will say this about Brill.
00:07:48He is, he does like to be a showman.
00:07:50That's true.
00:07:51That is true.
00:07:51The times that I've seen him get into real serious trouble and make mistakes in games is when he was
00:07:56trying to put on a show, uh, and trying to, you know, be a little overconfident.
00:08:02And, uh, you know, he's probably trying to put on a good show here and got himself into a little
00:08:08bit of trouble, so.
00:08:09I think that's why he lost his match against 2K at PAX Prime.
00:08:13Yeah.
00:08:13I think there's, there's a rematch planned for that, uh, because he, he felt like he, uh, he, he maybe
00:08:19underestimated their crew.
00:08:21So these guys, the rest of these guys playing the hunters, they, they, they don't care about the show and
00:08:26they're just gonna try to whack him out if they can, as quickly as possible.
00:08:29Yeah, I gotta say, Zeke on the, on the chat, um, sorry if I'm saying your name wrong, uh, he's
00:08:35not a bad monster player.
00:08:36He's, he's, just, just stay tuned, you'll, you'll see Brill come back.

00:08:42Um, 2K PD did not slap him, Phil, don't be mean.
00:08:47Gosh, I'll tell him you said that.
00:08:49It doesn't look like, uh, it doesn't look like any hunters have gotten any strikes.
00:08:54Yeah, which is really bad.
00:08:55So Brill's in trouble right now.
00:08:57Yeah.
00:08:57Really, these games, what happens during the course of a game, it's a war of attrition.
00:09:02So, anytime the hunters are digging into the monster's health, uh, they know they're making permanent progress.
00:09:08Right.
00:09:09You know, and it, and if the monster's getting strikes on the hunters, the monster's making progress.
00:09:13So, uh, you can, you can start, it, the, the games can always flip.
00:09:17And can, and you can always have a come from behind win.
00:09:20Uh, and there's always ways to get out of that.
00:09:23But, you know, seeing there that his health was below half and there were no strikes, uh, you can start
00:09:28putting money on, on the hunters in that scenario.
00:09:31So, here's the cutscene you get to see when you play evacuation mode.
00:09:35There's intro and outro cutscenes for everything.
00:09:37So here we see demonstrated for everybody that the ship's flying around and is spraying the surrounding environment with the
00:09:44scent masking material,
00:09:45which is going to keep the monster from sniffing on the next map.
00:09:48No matter what they pick next, no matter if it's nest or rescue, what mode they're going to play next,
00:09:52or what map they're going to play in, uh, is going to have this ship.
00:09:56So, that's kind of how, uh, you get so much variety.
00:10:00It's depending on, like, you might, you might play in the dam map, uh, five times, but each time you
00:10:06approach the dam from a different direction and have a different team win,
00:10:10win, you're going to, you're going to see the dam map with these different environment variables in play.
00:10:15Yeah, so, um,
00:10:16Um, uh, we touched briefly on the strikes and how the hunters in that last match didn't have any strikes.
00:10:23Uh, strikes are really important, as, uh, Chris was saying.
00:10:27Uh, you know, for the monster, he can only regenerate armor by eating, but he can't actually regenerate health,
00:10:32except there's one perk on the map that'll help you out with that, and when you, uh, evolve, you get
00:10:37a bigger health pool.
00:10:38So it seems like you have more health, you've got a little bit more leeway before you die.
00:10:43Uh, from the hunter's side,
00:10:44every strike takes you down a large percentage of your health.
00:10:49So, and then once you have two strikes,
00:10:51the next time you get taken down,
00:10:52you go straight to death,
00:10:54uh, and have to wait for the dropship.
00:10:56So here, uh, everybody's getting to vote on the next map.
00:10:59Looks like everybody in the server.
00:11:01Monster and all the hunters voted on nest, uh, in the aviary map.
00:11:08Okay, so it sounds like we have a question about, um, the voting on the map.
00:11:12Yeah, so if you played, um, Call of Duty or Halo and you're playing multiplayer,
00:11:18there's a lot of times, uh, the next map comes up into rotation.
00:11:21People can vote to skip that map and move on.
00:11:24And really, that's the mindset that we approached, uh, voting and choosing the next map and mode for us is,
00:11:30uh, evacuation mode is, is created to be a fun mode.
00:11:34And kind of fun above all else.
00:11:37So, um, our take, our approach was that we wanted everybody in the server just to vote on what mode
00:11:43do they want to play next?
00:11:44And what map do they want to play next?
00:11:46We know that, uh, there's going to be some maps that are a favorite.
00:11:49Some maps are more popular than others.
00:11:51And we want to give the players that control.
00:11:53So, in our mind, it's not so, it's not so much about, uh, which team, uh, gets the advantage, uh,
00:12:00and, and, you know, moving on to the next map.
00:12:03Like, you could see there that, like, all five, so it's an equal vote with all five players.
00:12:08The monster doesn't get extra votes.
00:12:10It's every person gets one vote.
00:12:11Right, and it's easy to adjust if, if, if people don't like that.
00:12:15But, uh, as you saw there, all five players on the server voted to go play Rescue.
00:12:20So, uh, we just find so far, that's one of the things that we like to do.
00:12:24When we develop the game, we try to be as open as possible.
00:12:28We, we try not to put restrictions on things to begin with.
00:12:31We try, we try the most open format.
00:12:35And then, you know, if we have to put restrictions on things later, we will.
00:12:39So, if we have to say, okay, just the winning team gets to vote, we will.
00:12:43But, uh, right now, we wanted to try putting it out there for everybody.
00:12:47Everybody gets an equal vote.
00:12:48Yep.
00:12:49And seeing how that works out.
00:12:50And so, we'll be looking towards the community.
00:12:52You know, uh, if you're playing on Xbox One, uh, you'll get to try evacuation mode out during the beta.

00:13:36Also, I do want to address a question that we had in the chat a little while ago.
00:13:39Sorry, I, um, we were talking about other stuff.
00:13:41But, um, the perks that you get when you win, uh, someone was asking about balance, uh, you know, and
00:13:48sort of suggesting that, well, in that case you're going to get steamrolled.
00:13:52But, there's, we have, we have an answer to that, which is our auto-balancing, which happens between every round.
00:13:58Do you want to talk about that a little bit, Chris?
00:14:00Yeah, so, you know, we didn't want to make it a winner's game.
00:14:03That's what, that's what it all comes down to.
00:14:05And, and, and so we learned that a little bit from Counter-Strike.
00:14:08It, when we worked on Counter-Strike, though, if you know anything about Counter-Strike, the winning team, uh, gets
00:14:13more money than the losing team.
00:14:14That means they can buy better guns.
00:14:16That means the round after that, they're more powerful.
00:14:18And, and what happens is that it just, it means that, like, once you start losing, it's hard to recover
00:14:23from that.
00:14:23Now, in Counter-Strike, uh, what was done to sort of counter that was that if a losing team wins,
00:14:29starts losing over and over and over again, say, three rounds in a row, pretty soon they start earning more
00:14:34and more money to try to counter that.
00:14:35So, even in Counter-Strike, uh, there was sort of a counterbalance to, to the winning team getting a bonus,
00:14:43uh, and it, it was over a long, a long-term, and so in Evacuation, we're doing the same, we're
00:14:48doing the same thing.
00:14:48The winning team gets this huge, impressive, visually cool bonus, uh, and, but the losing team is going to get
00:14:57a little bit of a stat.
00:14:58Oh, no, we got someone pounds and someone in a tyrant.
00:15:03That's not good.
00:15:04I just wanted to point that out, because they're really...
00:15:06I do hear screaming over there.
00:15:07...fighting that wildlife.
00:15:08Uh, yeah, I think Gril realized he needed to bring his A-game.
00:15:12Uh, so, yeah, uh, in, so they're playing nest mode, uh, and in nest mode, you can hatch one of
00:15:18your eggs to have a minion fight with you,
00:15:20so if you're wondering why there's a Goliath running around and also a Wraith, that's why.
00:15:26So things can get kind of crazy in some of the game modes.
00:15:29Yeah, so we apologize for the, uh, the overlay right now that's covering up, uh, the eggs, but you can
00:15:34see on the left there is the little minion icon.
00:15:37Everybody gets to see that, so, um, the hunters know at all times when a minion is hatched, uh, which
00:15:43is obviously really important to know,
00:15:45because then you're going to be looking after two monsters, not just the one, um, and then it's also a
00:15:49great way to...
00:15:50Oh, no!
00:15:52Oh, your shields could really save you so long, Brandon!
00:15:55Oh, but teammate's the rescue.
00:15:58And a decoy.
00:15:59Man!
00:16:00Um, so, yeah, it's a good way to keep track of your progress.
00:16:03Um, obviously, when you hatch a minion, that, that's an egg, like, when it gets taken down, that's an egg
00:16:08that you have lost as the monster, and that's one step closer.
00:16:11You use it, but the hunters still have to kill the minion in order to win,
00:16:14so, really, there's not a reason not to hatch an egg, uh, except that you are kind of sending, literally,
00:16:20you're sending that egg to the hunters.
00:16:21You're delivering it right to their doorstep.
00:16:23Uh, they do a lot of damage.
00:16:25They do, but, uh, they also give it right to them for them to kill if you don't, so, so
00:16:30what you probably want to do is wait, like,
00:16:32Brill, Brill went on the attack real early here, and he hatched the minion, and he went in and attacked
00:16:37with it.
00:16:37He coordinated with it, so don't send it in alone, uh, as a general rule, and go in there with
00:16:43it.
00:16:44and try to team up with it.
00:16:45Yeah, and he actually managed to get that, that buff right under the hunter's noses.
00:16:48They couldn't stop him from eating it.
00:16:50So, it looks like, I'm really surprised, but the hunters pulled that out.
00:16:54Uh, it was looking really bad for them.
00:16:56They pulled it out.
00:16:57Uh, they do have a couple strikes on there, so, uh, they're probably, looks like, uh, Brill's doing really well
00:17:06on his health,
00:17:06so, I'd say Brill's got the early advantage on this, on this game so far.
00:17:10He's staging up, so he's going to, he's going to, uh, now invest heavily, uh, give them a little opportunity
00:17:17to kill some eggs.
00:17:18Uh, he's gonna trade that, uh, for being stronger.
00:17:21We're gonna see it.
00:17:22I know Brill personally has a goal that he wants a max range abduction, uh, which is 100 meters at
00:17:29stage 3, is that right?
00:17:30It's, uh, it's 104 meters, and then with mastery, you can work that up.
00:17:34Oh, okay.
00:17:35Uh, so it can, uh, I think 10% up, so 114 meters max.
00:17:39Wow.
00:17:40So, yeah, so we might, we might see Brill trying to, uh, show off by pulling off one of those.
00:17:44We'll see.
00:17:45That would be really cool.
00:17:46Um, I, I gotta say.
00:17:47He's just, he's using it there for, for hunting, and that's one of my favorite things to do with it.
00:17:51You don't see a lot of people do that, uh, normally on the, on the footage that we've seen before
00:17:56for wraith,
00:17:57but that's one of the favorite ways for me to hunt when I'm, when I'm a wraith, is to use
00:18:01abduction.
00:18:02Yeah.
00:18:03It's, it's definitely very satisfying when you see it go off successfully.
00:18:07Um, I do want to address something that came up in the 2K stream earlier,
00:18:10which is people asking about the minions being goliaths.
00:18:14I remember a time when we were playtesting, and we had minion krakens and minion wraiths.
00:18:19Do you want to talk us through the decisions behind that change?
00:18:22So the, the function of the minions, uh, usually is just to go in there and brawl and fight and
00:18:28get up close.
00:18:29Uh, so in defend, they attack the generators, uh, and even in nest, they charge, they charge straight into the
00:18:35hunters,
00:18:36and they just brawl, um, whereas wraith, she's really a hit and run, she's very sneaky, uh, you know,
00:18:44so having minion wraiths, uh, in defend, going after generators, probably not the best strategy.
00:18:50So we just sort of found that goliath really functions as the soldier, the foot soldier.
00:18:55I like to call him the foot soldier of the war.
00:18:58Um, he's, that's the species that they've chose to sort of attack the ground troops, you know what I mean?
00:19:04Right.
00:19:05And we're seeing, we're hearing a lot of, uh, a lot of chaos here outside from the flares.
00:19:11There's a, you can see we're down to just one minion, so it, grill really has to protect that last
00:19:16guy he's got there, uh, in order to win.
00:19:19He's got a lot of health, so he's not in danger of dying at all, so the question is now,
00:19:23it's, can, can he wipe the hunters out?
00:19:26Oh, that minion's almost dead, though.
00:19:28No, that minion's almost dead, and he,
00:19:33Uh, sorry, I think we had a question, but I didn't quite hear it from the voice in my head.
00:19:44Okay, so the question is, can you move large, dangerous wildlife out of their original locations in order to, uh,
00:19:51endanger the hunters, I guess?
00:19:53Right, yeah, so abduction, uh, Wraith's kind of small, actually, so it's only the wildlife that she can pick up
00:19:59and carry.
00:20:00The only creatures that she can sort of pick up and carry are the creatures that she can abduct, so.
00:20:04Oh, interesting.
00:20:05It doesn't work, uh, if you use abduction on, uh, sloth, she will go to it and attack it and
00:20:11do damage and then come back.
00:20:13So it will still, it's still useful for hunting in that scenario.
00:20:15She'll still do damage, but she can't carry it.
00:20:18Okay, that's very interesting, I did not know that.
00:20:20It would just look kind of silly.
00:20:21It would!
00:20:22It would be a huge sloth and a tiny, tiny ring.
00:20:24She's, she's, yeah, I can't talk about her.
00:20:27Oh.
00:20:31All right, so we're hearing from, uh, our monster that he is not concerned.
00:20:37He thinks he can still win this, so, uh, he's planning to.
00:20:41He's down two.
00:20:42Yeah, down two.
00:20:43He's planning to take the next, the next few, I guess.
00:20:45Uh, so the hunters, they played aviary.
00:20:47The hunters won there, and if you saw the cinematic, you saw the birds flying up into the air.
00:20:52So what's going to happen now is in the next map, uh, there's going to be a lot more birds.
00:20:57On, on the ground, the scare birds, there's going to be a lot more of those.
00:21:00And also the chance, uh, when you kill a creature and eat it, the chance for the carrion birds to
00:21:05circle in the sky is going to be a lot higher.
00:21:07So that's.
00:21:08And that increases naturally anyway, the more the monster eats, right?
00:21:12Yeah, but it's going to increase a lot faster now.
00:21:14So, uh, so these hunters now, this round, they're just going to get indicators, like left and right,
00:21:19because he's going to be triggering birds over and over and over again.
00:21:22So Brill needs to know that he won't be, uh, running a stealth strategy on this map.
00:21:27Yeah, probably not.
00:21:28He's just going to need to be okay with the fact that the hunters will know where he is.
00:21:31You can avoid the birds, uh, on the ground, but you can't avoid the ones that you eat.
00:21:37The, the carrion birds.
00:21:40Yep, let's see.
00:21:41Um, someone asked if there's a chance to play with TRS devs during the beta.
00:21:46Uh, we play all of our tests.
00:21:48So, I, thank you, Jess.
00:21:52Yeah, yeah, please do.
00:21:53I'm at, I put, I can't remember 19 hours into the big alpha.
00:21:57I was at home just playing like crazy.
00:22:00And, and a lot of that was just, uh, because it's fun, you know, it wasn't because, but, but I
00:22:05also want,
00:22:05we also want to experience it from the gamers' point of view, from their perspective.
00:22:11Like, what's, what was the big alpha like?
00:22:13And, and up, the upcoming beta, you know, what's the beta going to be like from a gamer's point of
00:22:17view?
00:22:17So, we want to go through that scenario.
00:22:19We want to experience those things with, alongside players.
00:22:22Uh, after the big alpha, we made a lot of changes to the game.
00:22:26And so, uh, some things you, people are already picking up.
00:22:29People who knew the numbers of this perks and what values they were,
00:22:33noticed that they got changed.
00:22:35Uh, we did some balance tweaks to Kraken, which is going to be played this round.
00:22:39Yes.
00:22:40Um, we changed the rates that you earn, that you earn through the progression.
00:22:45And all of that stuff came out of the big alpha.
00:22:47And that was just, uh, you know, us knowing that we're doing the best that we can inside of the
00:22:53studio.
00:22:53But at the end of the day, we have less than a hundred people playing the game.
00:22:56And we need more data and we need more feedback from everybody.
00:22:59So, uh, uh, and we have one more shot.
00:23:02Basically, the, the beta is the, is another shot for us to, to look at balance, to look at tuning,
00:23:09to look at how powerful the character perks are and the wildlife buffs.
00:23:13Look at all those things and make one more adjustment, uh, for the release version of the game.
00:23:19But then after that, you know, we'll still continue to, to, to, to release micro updates,
00:23:26uh, to work on the balance of the game and that sort of thing.
00:23:29So, and we have a lot of stuff, the whole dev team, basically where we're at right now is, uh,
00:23:35uh, the game is locked down.

00:23:44It takes about a month to, uh, package a game and get it ready to, ready for release.
00:23:49So, on February 10th, so we're, uh, already sort of shut down on the main game, but we have concept
00:23:55artists,
00:23:55we have level designers, we have all these people that still, we want to keep busy.
00:23:59We don't want to lay anybody off.
00:24:00Uh, so they're working on, they're working on, you know, the next, uh, the next thing.
00:24:05So, there's more stuff to come in the future and we're learning, uh, we're learning through the alpha and through
00:24:11the beta
00:24:11what people like and what they want more of and intend to address a lot of that.
00:24:15Yeah, I mean, we, we enjoy playing the game and, uh, we really love seeing in real time the alpha
00:24:21thing as well as just seeing it on the forums.
00:24:23So, uh, I know, I know we do, we will be in the beta, uh, on the Xbox One open
00:24:30beta is starting January 15th for any of you don't know
00:24:33and going through the 19th, so we're very excited to share that with you all and, um, yeah, it's gonna
00:24:39be, it's gonna be fun, I'm excited, um, you know,
00:24:42a little bit after the craziness of the holidays dies down, we get to, uh, enjoy some of all of
00:24:46craziness like what I'm hearing out the window right now.
00:24:50Um, so they've just started, this is, uh, rescue mode, do you want to tell everybody a little bit about
00:24:55this?
00:24:56Yeah, so there are, rescue mode's kind of simple at the end of the day, uh, the hunters need to
00:25:01rescue the majority of the survivors that are out in the wilderness
00:25:04and the monster, the monster tries to kill the majority that are out in the wilderness, so, uh, right now,
00:25:10it's a, it's a little bit of a power struggle,
00:25:12over that resource, which is the, which is the survivors out in the, in the field, so right now, we
00:25:18know where two of the survivors are,
00:25:19the hunters are making their way towards them, uh, and the, and the monster, it looks like Brill went to
00:25:26go eat, uh, to invest kind of early into staging up to two.
00:25:30And that's a, that's a reasonable strategy, because in rescue we have three groups of survivors that they, that spawn
00:25:37on the map,
00:25:37so, the, the monster loads in, and, um, and starts eating, and he has a 30 second window to, to
00:25:45eat, to gain some armor,
00:25:46to gain some energy for evolving, and, um, the survivors don't actually show up until, uh, the hunters drop in.
00:25:54So it's not like the monster has a head start, but because there's a group of two, another group of
00:26:00two, and then a group of five,
00:26:02it's totally reasonable strategy to, uh, level up as quickly as possible, and just ignore that first group, and focus
00:26:08your efforts on, yeah, staging up.
00:26:09That's what he did, he didn't give them any resistance, and, uh, the hunters now got two rescued,
00:26:13and so they're gonna, they're making their way right now to the other two, the next two, and Brill is,
00:26:21uh,
00:26:21I think gonna try to get his armor up.
00:26:23Yeah.
00:26:24Uh, he's got a sloth here that he's gonna pick off, finish off that sloth, and then, my guess is,
00:26:29he's gonna beeline straight for the hunters and try to, try to get two of these survivors out of there.
00:26:38Sorry, I'm trying to read some of these questions here. Um, for anybody just joining us,
00:26:41I am Chloe's view, and I am here with Chris Ashton, one of the co-founders of Turtle Rock,
00:26:46and our design director, and he is running us through Evolve, uh, Evacuation,
00:26:51which is a series of modes, uh, that people vote on. There's a variation, there's Hunt, Rescue, Nest, and Defend.
00:26:59Yeah, basically if you play Evacuation mode, you get, you get a dynamic campaign,
00:27:03and you get to play basically everything, uh, that we have to offer. All the, all the game modes are
00:27:09in there, uh,
00:27:10and then any of the characters that you've unlocked are all playable in there, they're all viable,
00:27:14they all work in all the modes. So yeah, he did, uh, Brill went after him.
00:27:19Looks like he's got, uh, somebody down.
00:27:24Yeah, and he's doing a good job pushing the hundreds away to, uh, ooh.
00:27:29He's killed somebody, they've got Lazarus on their team now, so.
00:27:31He knows he has to go after Lazarus.
00:27:33Yeah, so people are gonna drop, that's one thing about Lazarus, is that people will in-cap a lot quicker
00:27:39with Lazarus on the team,
00:27:40because he really has a hard time actively killing them in combat.
00:27:43Yeah, but, it's very deceiving, because you think you're doing really well as a monster,
00:27:47and then, and then you can't close out the game, because Lazarus continues to bring people in combat.
00:27:51Right, so he got a, uh, survivor down, but it's possible, if he hasn't eaten the body,
00:27:56that Lazarus could, you know, go in there, cloak, find that body, and revive them,
00:28:00and they could still get a point for that, that survivor, if they can get him the extraction point.
00:28:04He is dishing out the damage, he's killed one survivor.
00:28:08Uh, another thing to mention, that we announced recently, is that you can play Evacuation offline,
00:28:14uh, against our fabulously designed AI, and it's a complete experience, you get to do everything,
00:28:20you can play as a hunter, you can play as a monster, uh, you can also play with a full
00:28:24group of five friends,
00:28:25if you wanted, we had a lot of people asking about that, uh, we know you guys wanna play together,
00:28:29and throw down against each other with somebody as a monster, uh, I know there's been a lot of smack
00:28:33talk out there,
00:28:33like there is in our studio, about, oh, I can totally take you as a monster, so, in Evacuation you
00:28:38can do that,
00:28:39uh, and, uh, it's, it's really cool, it's, it's fun, and, and, I, I think, Flancy was saying that you
00:28:45don't ever get the same experience twice,
00:28:48I mean, there's like 800,000 different combinations, so, there's lots of stuff there for you guys to look at,
00:28:54Um, so let's see, yeah, Brill is, is staying in there, but he's really taking a lot of damage,
00:29:01He's really committing for, uh, the amount of, uh, it looks like he's gonna retreat now,
00:29:07Oh no, he's still going after a survivor!

00:30:59So, this is the weather, the, the weather tower now, and, and so what happens is this,
00:31:05this part of Shear, the, the weather is so bad.

00:31:09That, uh, that they, in order to work here and have this, on this side of the planet, and have
00:31:14this facility here, they had to build a weather tower that kind of pushes the storm back,
00:31:17uh, and keeps the storm at bay.
00:31:19Well, the monster just destroyed it.
00:31:21Right.
00:31:21So now the storm rolls in.
00:31:22So in the next map, it'll be stormy, it's going to be raining, but more importantly,
00:31:27what happens is all these carnivorous plants grow.
00:31:30Uh, so it's going to be very dangerous.
00:31:31Hard for them to, hard for the hunters to move around.
00:31:34Uh, they got to watch their step.
00:31:35You know, it ups the population, uh, of carnivorous plants by a significant, uh, margin.
00:31:41And I know this team in particular is very judgy about when people get trapped in plants.
00:31:46They're like, oh, you shouldn't be doing that.
00:31:48Fingers crossed.
00:31:49Hopefully we see some hunters step in some plants.
00:31:51Yeah.
00:31:51We do, we do see some, some new players really fall prey to the wildlife a lot.
00:31:56This team considers themselves above that.
00:31:58So we'll see, uh, we'll see if they get taken down a peg by the wildlife in this next
00:32:02map.
00:32:02Uh, if the hunters had won the last round, we would have seen sunny skies and, uh, bright daylight for
00:32:09the next map.

00:32:11Which, for a sneaky monster player, can be really difficult to deal with.
00:32:14Yeah, it basically eliminates any, any sort of foul weather in the next map.
00:32:18Uh, so they're voting between, so they're voting between nest and rescue now.

00:32:56The first time I saw one of those, I was like, la la la la, oh, look at some rocks.
00:33:00And, um, that was very, very traumatizing for me at the time.
00:33:03They're good fun.
00:33:04And I, I think I've seen a couple of, of people who are relatively new, not completely new
00:33:08players, but wipe to wildlife.
00:33:11Uh, and so you really, it's, it's a, it's a threat that you really have to take seriously.
00:33:16Um, you know, especially if you have extra plants or if you have that hostile wildlife
00:33:21map modifier.
00:33:22This is one of the things that's really interesting about, about evacuation mode is that they're
00:33:27playing the same monster player for these five rounds.
00:33:30So they know he's played Goliath twice.
00:33:32He's played Kraken once.
00:33:35Uh, and so they're trying to, they don't know what he's choosing right now.
00:33:38They're trying to hedge their bets and choose characters.
00:33:40You know, if, if he plays Kraken again, what character do I want to be?
00:33:44What trapper do I want to be?
00:33:46Uh, do they think that he's going to Wraith now?
00:33:48Uh, they don't really know for sure until everybody clicks in, then they'll find out that
00:33:53he was Wraith.
00:33:55Uh, so Amortus asked about the, uh, auto balance and we covered that earlier.
00:34:00Um, but it does, it gives people, it gives the side that's getting balance more armor
00:34:07and more damage?
00:34:08Is that right?
00:34:08Uh, so the losing team will get a stat buff.
00:34:11They get a little less incoming damage and do a little, a little bit more outgoing damage.
00:34:15And the thing is that that, that will stack over time.
00:34:18Um, you know, it's not, it's not usually, you know, one.
00:34:24One block of that isn't really, balance wise isn't really worth kind of the advantage
00:34:29that the hunters get, but if, or that the, the winners get.
00:34:32But if they keep, if they keep stacking those, it gets better and better for them.
00:34:36And again, the goal, the goal is to make sure that it's not a, it's not a winner's game.
00:34:40Right.
00:34:40Uh, we don't want anything to snowball.
00:34:42We don't want you to, it's, it's the same, like in Left 4 Dead.
00:34:45Uh, it's one of the things we learned in Left 4 Dead is that if you were playing a versus
00:34:48campaign and you lost the first map or two, uh, there was no reason to stay in.
00:34:54Uh, and people would just rage quit.
00:34:56And so that's something that we were, that we were looking at here was like, we wanted
00:35:00to make sure that the losing team always feels like there's a reason to stay, to stay in.
00:35:04So, uh, one reason is the XP that you get.
00:35:07You know, as you see on the screen that they were saving colonists or killing colonists,
00:35:12colonists basically represent your XP boost that you're going to get paid out in the
00:35:16fifth round.
00:35:17So if you leave early, uh, you're giving up that XP.
00:35:21Uh, and also, you know, we're, we're working on sort of the out of balance in the background
00:35:25to make sure that the game is always competitive and always fun.
00:35:28Um, we did have a, one question from Bandus asking about, uh, the weapon sites when you
00:35:33zoom in.
00:35:34If there is a button to turn that off in the options, you can turn the toggle on and off.
00:35:38So, uh, we know that could be annoying.
00:35:39So one of the things that we added after the big alpha, uh, um, that we can talk about
00:35:44is that, uh, uh, it was a, it was a, I don't remember which way it worked on the PC.
00:35:49I think it was always a toggle and we added an option so that you could just have a hold,
00:35:53like a right click for the PC users.
00:35:55That's how I use it personally.
00:35:56Uh, yeah.
00:35:56So you could be a right click hold instead of a toggle.
00:35:58You can do that.
00:35:59Yep.
00:36:00Um, let's see.
00:36:01Decoy, uh, does the decoy leave Prince?
00:36:03That's a good question.
00:36:04I don't actually know the answer to that.
00:36:05No, the decoy doesn't.

00:36:06So originally she did, originally the decoy did, but it was just, it's already confusing
00:36:10enough to follow the wraith.
00:36:12It's already very challenging, very difficult to stay, uh, to, to track her.
00:36:16So really the tracks, if you see tracks, they're true tracks.
00:36:21Yeah.
00:36:22That, that is actually really good to know.
00:36:23Cause I, I know I personally, Brill always seems to know when I'm playing with him on
00:36:28the hunter side, like which one's the decoy and which one's the real one.
00:36:30Uh, I'm not as good at that.
00:36:32So.
00:36:33The decoy, the decoy, you'll, you'll notice, if you'll notice the, uh, when the decoy
00:36:37takes damage, she'll flash.
00:36:39So you'll see it flash.
00:36:41Okay.
00:36:41And that's an indicator that, um, that that's not the real wraith.
00:36:45Right.
00:36:46Uh, but even still, it hurts just as bad, if not worse.
00:36:51Uh, the decoy's very powerful, uh, melee attack.
00:36:53So you still have to address it.
00:36:55You can't just ignore it.
00:36:56You still have to, uh, avoid that decoy or else take the damage.
00:37:01Yeah.
00:37:01And there's, I've seen a lot of people using a strategy where they'll, um, do supernova
00:37:05and deploy the decoy.
00:37:07so the decoy gets the benefit of the supernova.
00:37:10Mm-hmm.
00:37:10And that, that can be really strong.
00:37:11Nice little collarbone.
00:37:12So, um, yeah.
00:37:14It's definitely, oh!
00:37:16And somebody's, uh, someone was asking what it looks like when Wraith, uh, is sneaking.
00:37:20So you'll see her kind of coil up and she looks much more serpentine to me.
00:37:24And she actually, like, physically crawls on the ground as opposed to floating.
00:37:30So, you'll, you'll see that.
00:37:32And then if you see her, like, pounce sneak attack.
00:37:35I can't, I was telling Chris earlier, I can't talk about Wraith without doing this motion
00:37:40because of her arm blades.
00:37:42So, um, yes.
00:37:44So when she, when she pounces and she pins someone down with her, with her arm blades,
00:37:48that you'll know that she was, she was sneaking.
00:37:50Uh, let's see.
00:37:51Does using decoy take away tranq, dust tagging, and other tracking devices, and stasis effects?
00:37:57Yeah, so while she's, you'll notice when she spawns the decoy that she's invisible.
00:38:03On your screen, there's a shimmer just so you can keep track of your own body.
00:38:07But for the hunters, she's completely invisible.
00:38:09And if she's got a tracker dart, that goes away.
00:38:11And if she's dusted, that goes away.
00:38:14But as soon as she comes back, uh, it turns back on.
00:38:17Ah, okay, so it's just a temporary invisibility.
00:38:20It's just a temporary thing, yeah.
00:38:21We don't, uh, one thing that we try to do in Evolve is we try to, uh,
00:38:25although there are ways, there are always ways to cope with abilities,
00:38:29and cope, you know, with weapons and that sort of thing as the opposing team,
00:38:33uh, we try to stay away from one-to-one counters, you know.
00:38:36So we don't ever want, like, if, if my tranq dart completely nullified your ability to hide during the decoy,
00:38:45then my, my gun would ruin your ability, right?
00:38:48Right, okay, that's fair.
00:38:49And so we don't, we don't want to ever shut down somebody's abilities.
00:38:53Abilities always have to be useful as a monster.
00:38:55And the same thing, gear always has to be useful as a hunter.
00:38:58We don't ever want anybody to, like, regret the decisions that they made.
00:39:02Mm-hmm.
00:39:03We had a, a lot of sneaking going on there.
00:39:05We had the three hunters that were up all cloaked, and, uh, Wraith sent out a decoy,
00:39:10so it was, everybody was cloaked.
00:39:11Uh, it's a very sneaky game right now in this stormy-
00:39:15I don't know, I don't know what it is about Wraith, but when you, when you play Wraith,
00:39:18you have this, you have this thing where, like, I sneak a lot when I'm Wraith,
00:39:23and I don't even, I don't even mean to, like, it's just something that you do,
00:39:27you just feel so sneaky that I wind up, I wind up kind of creepy-crawly, uh, hiding,
00:39:33uh, a lot more than I do with the other monsters.
00:39:36I, I have such a hard time on Wraith because I'm not, I, I am a sneaky hidey monster,
00:39:40but, like, I can't, I don't know, I'm, I'm just bad at her.
00:39:43So I do a lot of running away at high speed, uh, with my, with my Wraith.
00:39:47Well, you do, you have to, you have to keep a keen eye.
00:39:50It's really hard for people to watch their health and armor when they're a monster player.
00:39:55You're, you're looking at where the Five Hunters are, you're trying to keep track of them,
00:39:58and what things they're doing to you, and how much health they have.
00:40:01It's really hard for you to look at your own health.
00:40:03And so, a lot of people, a lot of newcomers, this is the reason the Wraith is Tier 3,
00:40:07is because a lot of newcomers jump into Wraith, uh, and forget to look at their health,
00:40:12and they're dead, you know, in minutes, and they don't, and they don't even know what happened.
00:40:16You know, so, it, it, it's something that we feel like you should probably try to play Goliath,
00:40:22and get used to him, and play Kraken, and get used to him.
00:40:24Get used to looking up, and out of your peripheral vision,
00:40:28keeping track of where your health and armor is, so that you can play Wraith,
00:40:31and not get into too much trouble too early.
00:40:34Yeah, like, you know, Brill has just realized that he has lost all of his armor,
00:40:38and he's now taking, like, permanent health damage.
00:40:40You can see how much, yeah, even though he has so much less health and armor right now,
00:40:45look how much more successful he is at hiding, even inside of the mobile arena.
00:40:49He's just avoiding any damage inside of it.
00:40:52And we saw, uh, last round with Kraken, you know, when he was in the mobile arena.
00:40:55Mm-hmm.
00:40:56Or the round before.
00:40:57So sneaky, Brill.
00:40:58And got beat, yeah.
00:40:59We had a good question.
00:41:01Uh, Mark Anthony was asking if you can abduct someone when they're taken down.
00:41:04I'm assuming that's in-capped.
00:41:06Yes, you can.
00:41:07And so, it's a nasty little trick for, uh, versus Lazarus.
00:41:13Mm-hmm.
00:41:13Uh, and you can move that, uh, in-capper to, you can move that in-capped player using abduction.
00:41:20You can move them to, like, deep water, where they have a hard time bringing them back,
00:41:23or where there is a tyrant.
00:41:25Um, you can, that's the one thing about Wraith.
00:41:29She has the ability to control where the fight's gonna take place,
00:41:32and that's something that, uh, Kraken can't do, Goliath can't do.
00:41:35Mm-hmm.
00:41:35Wraith can dictate where the battle's gonna happen.
00:41:39That's really cool.
00:41:41And yeah, the idea of dragging an in-capped player into the water or tyrant.

00:43:02because it's always even if you have
00:43:04the high jump perk
00:43:05if you kill a blitz leopard and
00:43:07that is a jump high perk or buff
00:43:10it's going to be better than the one

00:46:29landing the warp blast
00:46:30so then they
00:46:31then they sort of stop taking it
00:46:32but
00:46:32if you tap the button again
00:46:35while you're flying
00:46:35you'll stop
00:46:36you'll hit the brakes
00:46:37right where you are
00:46:38and you'll detonate
00:46:39so
00:46:39a lot of times
00:46:40like if
00:46:41if this is a hunter
00:46:41and i'm gonna warp past it
00:46:42uh
00:46:43and it looks like i was gonna warp past
00:46:45as soon as i get to the cup
00:46:46um
00:46:46hit it again
00:46:47the hunter
00:46:48yes
00:46:49uh
00:46:50and and you'll detonate
00:46:51so you can detonate on demand
00:46:52basically
00:46:53that's great
00:46:53that's really useful
00:46:54um
00:46:55and i've seen
00:46:55i've seen some
00:46:56really great
00:46:57uh
00:46:59interrupts of
00:46:59in caps
00:47:00uh
00:47:01or trying to get people up
00:47:02from in cap
00:47:03and that's
00:47:04that's worked out really well
00:47:05where you just warp blast in
00:47:06or even if someone's cloaked
00:47:08do that
00:47:08and you'll get everybody in the area
00:47:10it's pretty potent
00:47:10and it's a
00:47:11and it's an aoe
00:47:12attack
00:47:13so you can hit multiple hunters with it
00:47:15so it's pretty useful
00:47:17it's good for just like
00:47:18kind of straight up damage
00:47:19there's
00:47:20there's not really anything tricky about it
00:47:22yeah
00:47:23and the um
00:47:24i know i've had
00:47:24i've heard this question before
00:47:26um
00:47:26the decoy
00:47:27it doesn't actually take damage
00:47:29it just
00:47:29there's just a timer
00:47:31there's a timer
00:47:31and so

00:47:33again
00:47:33we didn't want
00:47:34anyone to render
00:47:35your abilities useless
00:47:37right
00:47:38so if
00:47:38if
00:47:39if the decoy took damage
00:47:40we actually have had that in the game before
00:47:43and what happened was
00:47:43if
00:47:44if you send it after val
00:47:45val couldn't do enough damage to kill it
00:47:47but if you send it after markov
00:47:48he'd just wipe it clean
00:47:50you know
00:47:50because they do
00:47:51assault
00:47:51with so much more damage than medic does
00:47:54and so for your
00:47:56for a hunter to be able to just completely nullify your ability is something we didn't want to
00:48:01we didn't want to do
00:48:02so
00:48:03the decoy will just stay around for x amount of time
00:48:07the more time
00:48:08the more uh
00:48:12sorry i was like
00:48:13i was seeing that brandon had two strikes
00:48:15he was trying to run away
00:48:17i know he's good with the jukes
00:48:18but i don't think there was really anything he could do in that situation
00:48:21so
00:48:21brill takes another victory
00:48:23he said he would
00:48:23following through on that
00:48:25so this is kind of
00:48:27this is a big deal
00:48:28what we want to see
00:48:29in in a lot of evacuation games
00:48:32uh
00:48:32is that
00:48:34we're going into the fifth round now
00:48:36two
00:48:36two wins i believe for each team
00:48:38and it's all going to be decided in the fifth and final round
00:48:43and that's something that that sort of auto balance helps
00:48:46helps happen
00:48:47obviously if the teams are very mismatched
00:48:50i mean the auto balance numbers are pretty subtle
00:48:52so if the
00:48:54if the teams are too mismatched
00:48:56then
00:48:57you can still have a
00:48:59sort of a five round suite
00:49:00but it's going to be pretty rare
00:49:03phil's excited that brill got his mojo back

00:49:27the real big heavy push to ship the game
00:49:29there was

00:49:51and we're all helping each other
00:49:53try to get the job done

00:49:55the interesting thing is that they play the game a lot
00:49:58and we play the game a lot
00:49:59but we're different pools of players
00:50:00right
00:50:00and we almost never mingle
00:50:02and there's different strategies
00:50:04like you really see different personalities
00:50:05you do
00:50:06in each location
00:50:06you do
00:50:07different strategies form
00:50:08they have different play styles than we do
00:50:11and so when our teams do clash
00:50:13and play against each other
00:50:14it's often like
00:50:15kind of interesting
00:50:15it's almost like uh
00:50:17it's almost like watching like early days of mma
00:50:19and seeing like karate versus wrestling
00:50:21or something
00:50:22like
00:50:22that's a good analogy
00:50:23yeah
00:50:24like how's that gonna work out
00:50:25but of course out in the wild
00:50:26there aren't really isolated pools like that
00:50:29everybody's mingling in multiplayer
00:50:33so it's you know
00:50:34online people will learn a lot faster
00:50:38by watching
00:50:38you know
00:50:39it only takes sort of one successful strategy
00:50:42from one group of players
00:50:43before that spreads
00:50:44if you get beat by one strategy
00:50:45then you incorporate that strategy
00:50:47and you start using it against everybody else
00:50:48and it spreads like wildfire
00:50:49absolutely
00:50:50I remember at
00:50:52it must have been E3
00:50:54we had a bunch of turtle rock folks show up
00:50:56to show their support
00:50:57and see our giant goliath statue in person
00:51:00and we had uh
00:51:01Dave Gibson played Kraken
00:51:03and I remember he was pulling out some tricks
00:51:05that people hadn't seen yet
00:51:06with the banshee mines
00:51:07so he would like hide them in the roof of caves
00:51:09he'd hide them like behind pillars
00:51:11knowing that the hunters were gonna run by
00:51:13and people were like
00:51:14oh my god
00:51:15I've never seen this before
00:51:16I never thought about doing that
00:51:17it was
00:51:17it was really cool
00:51:18he was very excited about it
00:51:19um
00:51:19and I think he ended up pulling out a
00:51:21really solid win
00:51:22so here uh
00:51:23they're going into this defend scenario now
00:51:25it's really interesting to see the characters
00:51:27we've got Maggie from team A
00:51:28Parnell from
00:51:29from team D
00:51:30Bucket from team B
00:51:31was that Kyra in the mix there
00:51:33yes I think I saw Kyra
00:51:34so a nice mix
00:51:35of the different tiers of hunters
00:51:37something that's really important for us
00:51:38is that all
00:51:39all the characters are equally viable
00:51:41we really want everybody to be
00:51:43it's more about who you want to play
00:51:45and what your play style is
00:51:47and maybe what your particular strategy is
00:51:49in that particular time
00:51:49but no
00:51:50no hunters are supposed to be
00:51:52any more powerful than any other
00:51:53no monster
00:51:54is supposed to be
00:51:55any more successful
00:51:56than any other monster
00:51:57so we're looking to have a 50-50 win ratio
00:51:59across any character
00:52:00across uh
00:52:01monster and hunters as well
00:52:03so
00:52:03but it's fun to see
00:52:05in defend
00:52:06it's very um
00:52:07combat
00:52:08defend is very combat oriented
00:52:09it's very fight heavy
00:52:11well it's very different
00:52:12than um
00:52:13any of our other modes
00:52:14because it's linear
00:52:15right
00:52:16so there's like a linear progression
00:52:17it's kind of
00:52:18well
00:52:18it's linear
00:52:19yeah
00:52:19it's definitely linear
00:52:20but it's still
00:52:21kind of an arena
00:52:22you know
00:52:22it's this
00:52:24it's almost like
00:52:25three mini maps
00:52:26connected together
00:52:28in one
00:52:28so
00:52:29uh
00:52:29you can see the monster
00:52:31is gonna
00:52:31usually what's gonna happen
00:52:32you start off at stage 3
00:52:33which is really fun
00:52:34to be a monster
00:52:35and just say
00:52:36okay I'm just gonna
00:52:37I'm already
00:52:38he hasn't lost any health
00:52:39like
00:52:39he's a full health
00:52:41stage 3 monster
00:52:42he's gonna get his armor
00:52:43and then he's gonna go in
00:52:45and basically what you want to do
00:52:46as a monster
00:52:47is you want to try to clear
00:52:48the resistance
00:52:49and let your minions
00:52:50do the work
00:52:50like banging on the generator yourself
00:52:53isn't a huge amount of fun
00:52:55and you don't do all that much damage
00:52:58by yourself
00:52:58but your minions
00:53:00let them do the work
00:53:01you know
00:53:01so what you want to do
00:53:03as a monster
00:53:03is you want to go in there
00:53:04you want to clear out the turrets
00:53:05the heavy mounted guns
00:53:07that are around
00:53:08the generators
00:53:09and you want to keep
00:53:10the hunters busy
00:53:11if you can keep the hunters
00:53:12focused on you
00:53:13then your minions
00:53:14will go to work
00:53:15on the generators
00:53:16and bring them down
00:53:16so
00:53:17I'm trying to figure out
00:53:18who they caught
00:53:19in this arena
00:53:22well a lot of times
00:53:23what a trapper will do
00:53:24I don't know
00:53:24it looks like the generator
00:53:26is actually in the arena
00:53:27yeah
00:53:28because normally
00:53:29I know this team
00:53:30is pretty aggressive
00:53:31and they like to go out
00:53:32to meet the minions
00:53:33and the monster
00:53:34and trap them away
00:53:35so you can actually
00:53:36trap them away
00:53:37so that the minions
00:53:38can't get to the generator
00:53:39which gives you
00:53:40time to do some damage
00:53:42to the monster
00:53:42or do some damage
00:53:43to the minions
00:53:44and minions spawn
00:53:45every 30 seconds
00:53:47but only if
00:53:49the other minions
00:53:50are dead
00:53:51so if you have
00:53:52one minion still alive
00:53:53then only one
00:53:55will come
00:53:56to help him
00:53:56is that right?
00:53:58I believe so
00:53:59I think there's
00:54:00you would only have
00:54:01two at a time
00:54:02so the monster
00:54:03knows that he's got
00:54:04a steady stream
00:54:08looks like the generator
00:54:09has taken
00:54:09quite a beating
00:54:12already early on
00:54:14that dome did not
00:54:14pay off for them
00:54:15so three minutes
00:54:1652 seconds
00:54:17one thing about the timer
00:54:19it's almost like
00:54:20checkpoints in a racing game
00:54:23if the monsters
00:54:24can bring down
00:54:24the generator
00:54:25they get more time
00:54:27on the timer
00:54:28to bring down
00:54:28the second one
00:54:29so even if you're
00:54:29down to like
00:54:30one second
00:54:31and you blow up
00:54:31that generator
00:54:32you get more time
00:54:34to destroy the next
00:54:35generator
00:54:36because what we
00:54:37didn't want
00:54:37is for you to
00:54:38what actually happened
00:54:39early on
00:54:40was that we had
00:54:40a consistent timer
00:54:42and so you would
00:54:43get to a scenario
00:54:44where like
00:54:45I only got
00:54:4630 seconds left
00:54:47what's the point
00:54:48that people quit
00:54:49you know again
00:54:50we're very aware
00:54:51we learned a lot
00:54:52on the previous games
00:54:53that we worked on
00:54:54and we're always
00:54:55trying to sort of
00:54:56watch out for that
00:54:56and make sure that
00:54:57there's reason for
00:54:58people to stay in the
00:54:59game and keep
00:54:59trying
00:55:02so one thing
00:55:03we talked about
00:55:04how the monster
00:55:04starts at stage 3
00:55:06and in order to
00:55:07kind of
00:55:09balance that
00:55:09with the hunters
00:55:10the hunters get
00:55:11a shorter dropship time
00:55:13so in this map
00:55:14unlike the rest
00:55:15of our modes
00:55:17killing all of the
00:55:18hunters is not a
00:55:18win condition
00:55:19so you could take
00:55:20down the entire
00:55:21hunter team
00:55:21and still
00:55:22I mean it would
00:55:23buy you some time
00:55:24for your minions
00:55:25and the monster
00:55:26himself to do
00:55:28damage to the
00:55:28generators
00:55:29but you wouldn't
00:55:29win outright
00:55:30so it's important
00:55:33to get back in
00:55:34and I think that
00:55:35influences what
00:55:36some people would
00:55:36choose with their
00:55:37hunters
00:55:38which is cool
00:55:39yeah
00:55:40yeah
00:55:40so the hunters
00:55:42the reality is
00:55:43that when you're
00:55:44when you've got
00:55:44several minions
00:55:45in their fight
00:55:45so you can see
00:55:46like that minion
00:55:47came off the
00:55:47generator
00:55:47and came after
00:55:48Farnell
00:55:48and you've got
00:55:49a full health
00:55:50fully armored
00:55:51stage 3 monster
00:55:52and a couple
00:55:53minions pounding
00:55:54like the hunters
00:55:54are just
00:55:55they're just
00:55:56they are gonna die
00:55:57like there's not
00:55:57a way around it
00:55:58so that's not
00:56:00the goal in this
00:56:01mode though
00:56:02and really
00:56:03this
00:56:03what the hunters
00:56:04are doing
00:56:05in this scenario
00:56:06is that
00:56:06that colony ship
00:56:07up there is
00:56:08is full of
00:56:09colonists
00:56:10and the hunters
00:56:11are on the ground
00:56:12they're basically
00:56:12sacrificing
00:56:13making a sacrifice
00:56:14to stay on the
00:56:15ground
00:56:15to be the heroes
00:56:16just you know
00:56:18for all those
00:56:18people on the
00:56:19ship to get
00:56:19them out of here
00:56:20so it is
00:56:21kind of a
00:56:22sacrifice
00:56:22and so you
00:56:23know you're
00:56:24gonna die
00:56:24in this mode
00:56:25and we're
00:56:25gonna and
00:56:26we're gonna
00:56:26respawn you
00:56:27very quickly
00:56:28to get you
00:56:28back in
00:56:28and you can

00:58:22they're kind of
00:58:23cooking you can

00:58:26monster on

00:58:27it's pretty nice
