00:05Hi everyone, I'm Chloe, and I'm on the team at Turtle Rock Studios.
00:09This video covers a crucial and fun part of monster play, eating.
00:14Goliath doesn't exactly look like a creature that watches his weight.
00:17It takes a lot of food to keep him going.
00:20Feeding as a monster is an important gameplay element for various reasons.
00:24When monsters eat, it does two things.
00:27It gives them evolution energy and armor.
00:30Getting to your maximum energy allows you to evolve into a more powerful monster that does more damage,
00:35gains more life, and has more ability points.
00:38So you can see it's crucial to feed and level up to increase your chance of winning.
00:44As a side note, you get two whole sections of energy from incapping a hunter.
00:49This can be really helpful in filling your evolve meter.
00:52When hunters damage your health, you cannot regenerate it through feeding.
00:56So most damage hunters do to your health is permanent and lets them make progress against you.
01:01That's why armor is so important.
01:04When you have armor, any damage you take can be regenerated through feeding,
01:08meaning it's common for monsters to stay in a fight until their armor is depleted,
01:12and then run in order to chow down on some creatures and regenerate for the next fight.
01:17Any time you stage up, you will lose all the armor you've had before.
01:21This is very important to keep in mind and makes it even more essential that you find a safe place
01:26to evolve
01:27that's near an area with lots of wildlife so you have some easy meals around.
01:32Breaking away to feed is a natural part of Evolve's gameplay and creates a low point, like a calm before
01:38the storm.
01:39If that calm seems to last too long, it's only a matter of time before a monster's need to feed
01:44will attract the attention of scavenger birds.
01:48Every time a monster eats, there is an increased chance carrion birds will appear, alerting hunters at the monster's location.
01:55Because of the carrion bird mechanic, it makes sense to kill creatures that have a lot of meat on them,
02:00like mammoth birds for three meats and crowbill sloths for four meats.
02:04The fewer times you have to feed, the less likely that you'll have carrion birds reigning on your stealth furry.
02:09Of course, larger prey is harder to take down, so it's a higher risk, but a greater reward.
02:17When anything in Evolve dies, their bodies will decay over time.
02:22As a body decays, it becomes worth less energy.
02:25It makes sense that if it decays too much, it cannot be eaten.
02:29Knowing this fact comes in handy when you're interested in obtaining a special buff.
02:33For example, if the hunters kill an elite crowbill sloth,
02:37you could try to bait hunters away from the body to get them out of position,
02:40and then dash back to the corpse before it decays so you can get the buff yourself.
02:45If you eat an elite creature before a hunter can pick up the perk,
02:49it will prevent them from ever getting that buff.
02:52I know it's a lot to keep track of, but soon you'll be an eating champ.
02:56And if you have trouble remembering, just think that the key to a monster's success is through his stomach.
