00:01Say it loud, say it proud, us Brits love the costas.
00:05We are Bedford!
00:07You're here in the sun, lap it up.
00:09We're living the dream, I'll see ya!
00:10Well, maybe not quite that loud, Nathan, but we are.
00:14And with over 300 days of that glorious sunshine a year,
00:17it sure beats the cold and grey of the old UK.
00:21Ah, this is a lie.
00:22Living that dream can be blooming hard graft.
00:26Misty!
00:27My life, you're right.
00:28Stress level.
00:29Through the roof.
00:31But at the end of the working day...
00:33Girl power!
00:34Girl power!
00:35Come on, Sam!
00:35Forward!
00:36Booyah!
00:37The quality of life on the costas...
00:39Ah!
00:40Yeah!
00:41Did it!
00:42...is priceless.
00:43Cheers!
00:45Peace and love.
00:46Cheers.
00:47That's why there will always be...
00:49And this is my mate Franny.
00:50Hiya, Franny.
00:51Brilliant cocktails.
00:52Happy vibe.
00:53Sun, sea, sand.
00:56Bargain-loving Brits in the sun.
01:00Today on the costas...
01:02I'm so excited.
01:03I've got to get there now.
01:04I'm in a rush.
01:05I'm in a huge rush now.
01:0685-year-old Val hits the town looking her witchy best.
01:11So far, so good.
01:12Hooray!
01:14Singer Page hopes to get the crowd on side at a special gig.
01:17They're all up for a laugh, so that's really nice.
01:20That one with the white head is the male.
01:24And bird breeders Adrian and Debbie hope it'll be love at first flight for their latest arrival.
01:30Best outcome today will be a successful introduction of the birds together.
01:35No murder.
01:43You see, there's so many things in second-hand shops you can get, so I've been buying a lot in
01:48the charity shops.
01:50In Mijas Costa...
01:52That's the trouble being short.
01:53You can't reach things.
01:55Val is growing old in style.
01:58That was for my birthday in February.
02:00Look at that one.
02:01Look at that.
02:03My name is Valerie Williams.
02:06It's all finished at the bottom.
02:07Look.
02:08It's beautiful.
02:09I'm 85 years old.
02:10I don't really believe it.
02:12Right.
02:12Let's wait now.
02:13Let's see what we've got here.
02:15It's inside out, so it doesn't look so nice on the wrong side.
02:18Look, that looks better now.
02:20That one.
02:21That's a nice one.
02:22I'm from Anglesey.
02:23I've been in Spain 39 years.
02:26When there's an urbanite, I put this on.
02:29Look, it's got flared trousers with the top.
02:33You have to have fun at 85.
02:35You don't want to sit by the fire with a shawl around your shoulder and sit here and do nothing.
02:40You've got to go out and have fun while you can.
02:42Val keeps herself busy by organising some of the Costa's most hotly anticipated events.
02:48Everybody said they liked that a lot.
02:50I went to a lunch the day when the Feb was on the fair.
02:54And she's got a big one planned tonight for Halloween.
02:56Or is that Valoween?
02:58So I've got the hat.
03:01There, and I'll do it like that.
03:03Ooh, magic.
03:07Tonight, it's going to be Halloween night.
03:09It's not a charity do, it's just for fun.
03:12So we're off to a restaurant in Fangarola.
03:15I've left them with 100 balloons, orange and black.
03:17These pumpkins, serviettes in black and orange.
03:20So hopefully it'll all be decorated when we get there.
03:23There are 50 paying guests coming tonight for a fancy dress meal and a disco.
03:28It's a glass of kava as you come in, a welcome drink, three courses and an interesting menu.
03:34And then there's a half bottle of wine per person, and it's $23.50.
03:39And as Val is so well known for throwing a good do, expectations tonight will be high.
03:46I'm always quite nervous because I want it to go well.
03:48I really so badly wanted people to be happy.
03:51So I do get quite nervous, but yes, I'm excited.
03:55Mummy's going out to buy a broomstick, so be good.
03:58Oh, we'll be brushing your hair with a broomstick, won't we?
04:02Hmm.
04:02Hmm.
04:03Right.
04:06Here we go.
04:07I need to go today to get myself a broomstick, since I've got all my witch's outfit, but I haven't
04:12got a broomstick.
04:14Since I'm organising the do, I've got to come myself in a good outfit.
04:18I have to show them I'm willing, because if I'm not willing, they won't be willing.
04:21There is a bottle of kava for the best dress, but I think perhaps another little prize for them.
04:25So I need to go to the shops and get something suitable for the best dress.
04:31I don't know what yet.
04:33There's plenty of Halloween stuff here, isn't there?
04:36Look at all the stuff.
04:38Looks like the perfect place to help you look your witchy best, Val.
04:41I can't see a broomstick, man.
04:44Amazing amount of stuff in here.
04:46Oh, here's the broomstick, look.
04:53There's a green one there.
04:55I think that one's better.
04:58It's cheaper anyway.
05:01Broomstick sorted.
05:02Now there's that prize for best fancy dress to find.
05:05I don't know what to buy.
05:08I'll just buy the broom here, I think, and see if we can get something else.
05:13Yes.
05:13Este parola.
05:17I like everything right.
05:19It's fussy.
05:21I don't want it wrong, because it's ruining my reputation,
05:24but it's not fair to the people who bother to come.
05:28They want good value.
05:30Val's putting her reputation on the line for tonight's party,
05:33and she's running out of time.
05:34So, I'd better get along and see if I can get something for the prize winner.
05:39I've got an awful lot to do.
05:47Benidorm is amazing.
05:49We love the old town.
05:51It's great.
05:52Everybody's friendly.
05:53Everybody's happy.
05:54There's no shortage of beautiful spots to choose from on the costas.
05:58I like the vibe, all the people walking around.
06:02I love the sea.
06:03But for thousands of us Brits, it's bustling Benidorm that's the biggest draw.
06:08We love it, because we meet with a lot of Spanish friends that we've made over the years.
06:13The greatest thing about Benidorm is beaches are so clean.
06:17It's always sunny.
06:18I just love the whole atmosphere, the whole place.
06:22It's just...
06:23It's...
06:24It's friendly.
06:26It's exciting.
06:27It's just a really happy place to be.
06:34More prizes to tonight.
06:36Keep them coming, guys.
06:38And one happy face who's made Benidorm his home is former soldier Frank.
06:45Always got a spare balloon for the kids.
06:49There you go, my mate.
06:50What's your name?
06:52And we're going back to the time he organised a fun-filled fundraising day at his pal Paula's bar.
06:58Canna Guinness.
07:00The Spitzer.
07:01Both after the days, of course.
07:03The Franco style.
07:05It's my favourite one.
07:06The Franco's trainers.
07:08Frank's a bit of a Benidorm legend, and always helps others when he can.
07:12Usually roping in his best mate, Nick.
07:15People think it's his big personality.
07:16But he's got a soft heart as well.
07:18He's well known everywhere.
07:20He never stops.
07:21He's 100 miles an hour.
07:22Oh, he's very special.
07:25Very, very special.
07:26Wow, Frank.
07:29Frank and Nick aren't just mates.
07:31They're also flatmates and workmates who perform as a comedy double act.
07:36I've known him years, but I've never wanted to work with him, because I thought he's too mad.
07:40But since I've worked with him, he's given me an extra life.
07:44There are these, like, live mibs, because I just wanted to semi-retire, weren't bothered.
07:47But now I've got a buzz back.
07:48And when we caught up with him in 2022, the pair were extra buzzy.
07:54At the end of the day, it's all about fun.
07:55And this is a fun time, Benidorm.
07:57We just love having fun, fun, fun.
08:00Oh, you're not the only one that thinks so, Frank.
08:02Benidorm is all about having fun.
08:04You can come on your own.
08:06You can sit in a bar, and someone will talk to you.
08:09It's fabulous.
08:10With the bar filling up, the fun can begin.
08:16Starting with a game of Giants stat.
08:18Sorry, Susan.
08:20Four of spades.
08:22King of spades.
08:25She's going to go full left.
08:26Oh, the queen of ours.
08:30Theresa May is going to go left.
08:31And we have a winner.
08:33It's time for the raffle.
08:36We've got some fantastic prizes.
08:38I wouldn't go that far, Nick.
08:41To finish off, we're going to have the beard shaving.
08:44I'll snip on my beard and see how we get on there today.
08:47Good luck with that, Frank.
08:49Hopefully, surviving the chop won't be a close shave.
08:55Coming up.
08:56What have you got there?
08:57A little birdie for me?
08:58Bird fanatics Adrian and Debbie play matchmaker with a new feathered friend.
09:02Hopefully, they'll say, oh, we love each other, and they'll have a little baby taracco.
09:07Let's get a beard off, guys.
09:08And Fearless Frank's face gets the snip.
09:23When we first came here, all that was here were pine trees, and this was brown.
09:28So, now, it incorporates 17 cages.
09:33Nestled in the Costa Blanca countryside...
09:36In there is a white-crested taracco.
09:40Adrian and Debbie with their exotic aviary.
09:43So, we've got 60-something birds, which is a mixture of taracos, toucans, laughing frutters, seven varieties of taracco,
09:57and these are all under a nucleozoological licence, which we got from the local government.
10:04We never planned to breed birds, did we?
10:09It wasn't, no.
10:10No, I think I always had chickens on the radar, but it wasn't in our bigger plan, was it?
10:16No.
10:17I think once we started, you get a little bit hooked, and it's like, well, I'll build another cage then.
10:22And then I'll build another cage, and, oh, I'll get another bird.
10:25But by the time the toucans came in, they were starting to get serious.
10:29The couple ran a recruitment company in Leicestershire before spreading their wings and settling in the Hallon Valley 21 years
10:36ago.
10:37I think the nice thing for us here is that every day we actually come and touch base with nature.
10:43So, it's the trees, it's the greenery, it's feeding the birds, it's watching the birds, it's listening to the birds.
10:51They've all got different personalities, so it's just enjoyable.
11:04I don't know if it helps imitating the sound of a bird, but they tend to take some notice, and
11:10in the morning, we all seem to have a general chat as we're on the way to feed them.
11:14So, it can become quite noisy.
11:17We've been married way too long.
11:2236 years, I think.
11:24Is it 36 years?
11:25No, we've been together 36 years, so I think we've been married.
11:31I can't remember.
11:32It's pretty damn close.
11:34Once you found me, that was it.
11:35You put your hooks in, and that was it.
11:37I did not.
11:38She did.
11:38About 30 years.
11:40Once she realised I had money, she was in there.
11:45You didn't.
11:45Oh, what a pair of lovebirds you are.
11:50Speaking of which.
11:51That one with a white head is the male.
11:56The white-crested terraco, look.
11:59He's a young boy, he's fit, and he will love his new girlfriend.
12:06You heard right.
12:07This is a bird blind date.
12:09We've got a male and a female, one pair, and then we've got a young male.
12:14Which we bred ourselves.
12:15Which we bred ourselves.
12:16But we need to have diversity in our bloodline.
12:20So, today, friends and fellow bird lovers, Mark and Sue, are heading over with a female terraco.
12:26That could be the perfect match.
12:27Hopefully, we can put those two together.
12:30They'll say, oh, we love each other, and they'll have a little baby terraco.
12:35It might sound like they've hatched the perfect plan to expand their breeding programme.
12:40But creating this love nest isn't risk-free.
12:44When they're older, they become very territorial.
12:47And they potentially could kill each other.
12:50What?
12:51That doesn't sound very romantic.
12:53Putting these two birds together today should be okay.
12:56Because they're both young birds.
13:00Well, I hope you're right, Debbie.
13:02And we have our birds.
13:04Go and meet your new owners.
13:06Say hello.
13:15Back at Paula's bar in Bellidorm.
13:17Pick a box.
13:18Pick a box.
13:19Pick a box on there.
13:19Frank shifting stuff he no longer wants by claiming they're...
13:23Prizes.
13:24This one at Chelsea's.
13:28But today isn't just about fun.
13:31And Frank's making a big personal sacrifice.
13:34Come on, finish, surely.
13:37We've got a charity fundraiser today.
13:40Two charities close to my heart.
13:42One is Lowe vs. Sweden.
13:44Being an ex-serviceman myself.
13:46I'm here to Project For All, which is a local food bank that we do for the homeless.
13:51In exchange for a donation, punters can lop off part of Frank's fabulous facial fur.
13:58That's going to be enough, guys.
14:00It's time to chop for charity.
14:01Only in Bellidorm, kids.
14:04Young lady, you're going to do the first shot.
14:07Right.
14:07This is it.
14:08This young lady.
14:09Right.
14:10She's only to 50 quid for the first.
14:1250, Carl.
14:1350 euros for one cut.
14:16Not exactly a snip, even if it is an actual snip.
14:23Another bullseye.
14:25Come on, son.
14:27It's illusory.
14:28Must be no.
14:30Because everyone seems to be wanting to queue up to take a bit.
14:33Eagle has landed, baby.
14:34Well, to be frank, Frank, it looks more like the beagle has moulted.
14:39Get a hairdresser in the room, because that's not going to look good.
14:41Good idea, Lisa.
14:42So, after a quick tidy up at the local Barbero, Frank's back for the important bit.
14:48I just want to give a little bit back to these people that are a little less closer than ourselves.
14:52Especially this day and age.
14:54So, everyone, we all, we're all in this together.
14:591,144 euros.
15:03A hair-raising amount.
15:05Good work.
15:06Community.
15:07It's like the family over here in the Bellator.
15:09We all stick together.
15:10We all know what's going on.
15:12And we all know what's needed.
15:13With his good deed now done for the day,
15:15Frank's next job is to make some money for himself.
15:18Or this month's rent won't get paid.
15:29This is definitely our favourite photo.
15:36So, yeah, definitely our favourite photo.
15:39The first time we took Dusseless out, our own boat.
15:44Cabaroig.
15:45Yeah, it was a beautiful day.
15:47The weather was fantastic, wasn't it?
15:48Great sailing conditions as well.
15:50Fabulous day.
15:57Makes me feel really happy when we see that together.
15:59Yeah.
16:00Because it cements our friendship together.
16:01It does.
16:02It absolutely does, yeah.
16:03It's a great photo.
16:11I think we were a bit worried at the start of that day.
16:14And then after that, it was all good.
16:17Plane sailing.
16:17Plane sailing, as they say.
16:25Wonderful flowers.
16:26Look at them.
16:27Fantastic.
16:29In Fuengirola.
16:30Oh, it's amazing.
16:32Val is on the hunt for inspiration for her Halloween party.
16:36Oh, there's a nice lot of flowers here, isn't there?
16:38Well, we're doing a Halloween thing tonight, so we just want something inexpensive, little plant, for the winner of the
16:45best costume.
16:46Oh, it's just a small, just a small plant.
16:51One of those would be nice, wouldn't it?
16:53Yeah, yeah, that'll be fine.
16:58Something a bit different, doesn't it?
17:02All right, thank you very much.
17:04You're welcome.
17:05It's a little spooky plant with lots of balls on it.
17:07Oh, nice choice, Val.
17:09Lovely balls.
17:13When I'm put on events, I feel useful.
17:17I think as you get older, you need to be useful.
17:19No, no, no, you're because you're all so pleased to see me.
17:23Yes, you are.
17:24Also, I don't want the old people to be lonely, but I don't want to be lonely either.
17:29Oh, you're a fussbub.
17:30Oh, you're a fussbub.
17:33And so about 50 people are coming tonight.
17:36Fussy, fussy, fussy, fussy, fussy, fussy.
17:38You're a...
17:42I've got to get down there and check that everything's ready.
17:47Oh, fussy little thing, aren't you?
17:49And then the people will be arriving at half past seven.
17:52So I've got a really busy day.
17:55Hello, Sam.
17:56It's Val here.
17:57Everything all right?
17:59After months of meticulous planning, Val's not leaving anything to chance.
18:04You put up the decorations, yeah?
18:06And I'll be there about just after six.
18:09Is that okay?
18:10It's a big bar.
18:11And we've been there before and it's very pleasant.
18:14We went there for New Year and we had a nice time.
18:16So the meal about eight o'clock, yeah?
18:19Okay, see you later.
18:21Bye, bye-bye.
18:23So hopefully we're going to have a nice time tonight.
18:26They have to have their walk before I go out.
18:29Walkie-walkies.
18:32It's quite nice to get out and get a bit of exercise.
18:35I go out at eight in the morning and then I go out about five or between five and six
18:40in the evening.
18:42Every day.
18:42This is a good warm-up before my dancing tonight.
18:45I don't usually go up this hill, but I'm going to go up today, get myself fit for tonight.
18:51Gosh.
18:54Ethel?
18:55There she is.
18:56Come on.
18:56Come on, Ethel.
18:57Come on.
18:58I'm really enjoying just coming up here nice and calm up here with the dogs before I go out.
19:03I go out quite often in the evening, so I come up here first with the dogs and we enjoy
19:07it.
19:08And then I get myself ready to go out.
19:11And speaking of getting ready, I don't want to panic you, Val, but time is getting on.
19:16Come on, dogs.
19:17Hurry up.
19:17We've got lots to do.
19:18I've got to go and get ready.
19:19All right?
19:20Are you listening?
19:21Yeah, they don't listen too much.
19:22Are you listening?
19:23We've got to go home now.
19:24Come on.
19:24Home.
19:25Right.
19:25Off we go.
19:26Off we go.
19:29I'll go in in a minute.
19:37Hello.
19:38Hello.
19:38Hiya.
19:39How you doing?
19:39All right, thank you.
19:40And what have you got there?
19:42A little birdie for me.
19:43Got a prezzy for you.
19:44In the Hallon Valley.
19:46Nice little female white-crested turaco.
19:49There's a new arrival at the aviary.
19:51A potential mate for one of Adrian and Debbie's white-crested turacos.
19:56See how they get on?
19:56Yeah.
19:57Over to you, boss.
19:58All yours.
19:58Okay, yeah.
19:58The female turaco has been brought over by friends and fellow bird lovers, Mark and Sue.
20:04We'll go in the aviary, let the bird out, and just stand back a bit and watch what they do.
20:10Hopefully, it'll all be good.
20:11Well, I think the best outcome today would be a successful introduction of the birds together.
20:17No murder.
20:18The worst outcome we could have today is the birds don't get on.
20:23Then we'd have to intervene and split them up.
20:26Time to find out.
20:28Here goes.
20:29I think if you open the door, and let's see what happens.
20:33There she goes.
20:39She's quite calm, isn't she?
20:40Yeah, I do consider that.
20:41And normally, they'll fly end-to-end quite rapidly just to find out the parameters of the cage.
20:47But she's sat there quite happy.
20:48The male's interested.
21:02As first meetings go, it couldn't have gone better.
21:06Now, all Adrian and Debbie can do is watch and wait.
21:10There wasn't any infighting.
21:12There wasn't any animosity.
21:15They just seemed to get on.
21:17But at the moment, they're just children.
21:19Next year, there'll be youths.
21:21And the year after, there'll be young adults, and the male will start chasing the female.
21:28The only thing we can guarantee is they get well looked after, and that's all we can do.
21:34And the rest is a bit of luck.
21:37We're keeping our beaks crossed.
21:41Coming up.
21:43It's going to be emotional.
21:44There's going to be tears.
21:45Frank and Nick take a gamble on a new money-making idea.
21:49Come on, next time's ticking, isn't it?
21:50I'm getting nervous now.
21:52Do I look scary enough?
21:53And Chief Witch Val gets ready to paint the town, er, green.
21:58I feel funny.
22:00Fortune, not too many people around to see me.
22:12All right, so we're just going to do a bit of battle rope now.
22:15I'm not good with ropes.
22:16You're not?
22:17It's another hectic day for Costa del Sol singer, Paige.
22:21Put your chin up and your chest out, and pick a spot to look at.
22:25And that's going to be your spot now.
22:27I sing in bars and restaurants all up and down the coast, generally from Toro Molinos down to Manilva, Dequesa
22:34area.
22:35I also do weddings.
22:37With such a busy and demanding job, keeping fit is crucial.
22:42You're going to do 20 seconds on here of drumming, right?
22:45You can keep it close.
22:46It doesn't have to be big things like this.
22:47You can keep it close.
22:4820 seconds of drumming.
22:49It tends to be the more fitness I do, the more energy I've got.
22:532, 1, boom.
22:55Drum, drum, drum, drum, drum.
22:56On your heels.
22:57Look, you're on your toes there.
22:57Get on your heels.
22:59It's okay.
23:00Good slams.
23:01Keep it moving.
23:02I do believe that a healthy body and a healthy mind equals a happy life.
23:06Come on, let's go.
23:07I know, I'm nearly done.
23:0919, 20, stop.
23:10Oh, I don't like that.
23:11And then, two years ago, yesterday, I actually had a car accident coming home from a gig.
23:17You've got to take your heart rate now.
23:2118.
23:23Okay, reset.
23:24There's a minute going, so take a minute rest.
23:25And I managed to escape with no injuries, which was amazing, to say what the car looks like.
23:32And it just really put things into perspective of how precious life really is.
23:39It was the changing point in my life, actually.
23:413, 2, 1, go.
23:43Come on, bang, bang, bang.
23:44Elbows, that's it.
23:47We only get one body in this life, and it's important to look after it.
23:5318, 19, bang.
23:55Right, round the corner, I'm going to make some pull-ups now.
23:58Paige's successful career as a singer keeps her busy with up to 10 paid gigs a week.
24:03Wide grip, okay.
24:06But with a new outlook on life since her accident, she now wants to help others.
24:11I'm volunteer singing in a care home.
24:13It's a residential home for patients that, um, some have got dementia, um, some are just there for assisted living.
24:22Now let's get that collarbone up.
24:25Her booking this afternoon is the highlight of her month, so she's doing it for free.
24:30It's one of the favourite gigs that I do because the residents are just so grateful for you to be
24:36there,
24:36and it gives me so much joy to bring joy to them, so I'm really looking forward to being there.
24:42It just makes you grateful to be able to give back a little bit.
24:46Squeeze at the bottom, slowly up.
24:47One, and then bang, two, last for another day, empty the tank, 12, slowly up, boom, bosh.
24:57Happy days.
24:58Done.
25:00Well done, you.
25:01That was nice.
25:02Now I'm going to head home, I'm going to eat some food, get ready for my gig at the care
25:06home.
25:07Blimey, Paige, there's no stopping you.
25:12I have to take everything, which is my speaker, my desk, my microphone, my music.
25:18But after that workout, let's hope you've got enough energy for this afternoon.
25:23It is a very, very busy day, but I'm just grateful to be able to do all these things.
25:33Let's go, eagle has landed.
25:34Ah, there's that catchphrase.
25:36In Benny Dorm, entertainers Frank and Nick are in need of some extra cash
25:39to help cover the costs of their shared flat.
25:42We do love it, but obviously, you know, with the rent situation,
25:47we're going to have to start getting some finances in,
25:50because my savings are running out fast.
25:53So they want to try their hand at party planning to earn some extra euro.
25:58I'm scared of heights.
25:59I can see that.
26:00I'll go get that.
26:00They have their first booking today, a surprise 60th birthday.
26:05These are the magic curtains where you come from.
26:07There's always somebody's birthday out here.
26:09And for this, to do this one.
26:11Hopefully it'll go well, I mean, and then people will start booking us.
26:14As well as organising Nigel's top secret bash,
26:18they'll also be providing the entertainment.
26:20Today is my husband, the handsome Welshman in Bernadon, 60th birthday.
26:25Happy birthday.
26:26Now, Nigel has no idea that his wife, Karen, is in cahoots with Nick and Frank,
26:31so she's told him a little fib.
26:34My wife is taking me out for a lovely meal tonight,
26:37which I'm looking forward to.
26:39I don't know where it is, but she has good taste,
26:42so I'm sure I will enjoy.
26:44With Nigel in the dark about what's actually going to happen,
26:48the boys are busy getting everything ready.
26:50That's the worst. I hate sell it, say, hey.
26:54We've got each of them to do, Frank.
26:56Come on, next time's ticking, many to get on.
26:58Look at the size of these, another balloon.
26:59Another balloon.
27:02A special day for him.
27:03He's got a couple of his family members coming over.
27:06But he doesn't know about us.
27:07It's going to be more shoulders, it's going to be tears.
27:09And Nick is in charge of writing the birthday show.
27:11Oh, you're cutting it fine, Nick.
27:13Yeah, get that script on, Nick.
27:14Give us an ambulance.
27:16You're not getting away with it.
27:17As per usual, always me doing the grafting.
27:20Well, I'm the brain to be out of it.
27:22I've got writer's block.
27:23I've got idiot block with him.
27:25I'm getting nervous now.
27:26I can't get it finished.
27:28I reckon Nick's feeling the pressure.
27:31Well, it's your reputation, really.
27:33If it goes bad on a textbook,
27:35you could have 100 gigs and smash it.
27:38Only one goes wrong.
27:40The word does get round then, doesn't it?
27:42Yeah, yeah.
27:43They haven't got a screamy, do they?
27:45The lads know they need to smash it later
27:47if their birthday business
27:49is going to make it to its first birthday.
27:58The secret to a long and happy life
27:59is to not take yourself too seriously,
28:02always have a laugh.
28:05We all have our own ways of keeping happy and healthy.
28:08If you can, plenty of holidays.
28:12See fit to a long and happy life.
28:14Is having a...
28:14Is having a...
28:15Is having a happy wife like me.
28:18I do.
28:21The secret to happy life is enjoying life when you can
28:24and doing what you can when you can.
28:26Always do, Stephen, when I can.
28:29Let's go, get in.
28:30Just be a nice person and think about other people.
28:32Don't get stressed by anything
28:34because you just...
28:35I'm like oblivious half the time
28:37of what on earth is going on around me
28:38because I'm in this little bubble
28:40and just have lots of fun.
28:42Enjoy it.
28:43Try to do something every day that you enjoy.
28:45That's the main thing.
28:47Ahoy!
28:50Right, this is when I get really busy now.
28:53And in Mijas Costa...
28:54Dogs, you couldn't go and sit down
28:55because mummy's got to get washed and dressed
28:57and ready to go out, all right?
28:5985-year-old Val is doing just that.
29:04This is witch me
29:05and every witch needs a little bit of your pee
29:08and a little bit of green on her face,
29:09so off I go.
29:10This octogenarian's got 50 paying guests
29:13coming to her grand Halloween bash tonight.
29:16Look, I need an eyebrow.
29:18Do I need more of that?
29:19Do I look scary enough?
29:20Ooh, you do, Val.
29:21Right, I'm off.
29:24I'm so excited.
29:25I've got to get there now.
29:26I'm in a rush.
29:27I'm in a huge rush now.
29:29I'm stuck.
29:30There's no time for getting stuck.
29:32Everyone's arriving for a three-course meal
29:34in half an hour.
29:35I'll cast a few spells
29:37or a few wishes on everybody tonight.
29:39So we'll celebrate.
29:41Anything to celebrate.
29:42It's just an excuse to celebrate.
29:48I feel funny.
29:50Ooh, you look a treat.
29:51Unfortunately, not too many people around to see me.
29:56It isn't far to go.
29:57We'll get there quite quickly.
30:01Oh, yeah, I got you here early.
30:04Hello, hello.
30:05I made a lovely recognised, Val.
30:06Oh, God.
30:07You look amazing.
30:09Where's the eight then?
30:10It might be Sam's bar.
30:12That's eight there.
30:13You can make that eight.
30:14This is eight.
30:15So it's got to be nine now, yeah?
30:16But this is Val's event.
30:19What about the eight?
30:20The eight?
30:20We'll put there.
30:21Don't worry.
30:22Over there?
30:23Yes.
30:23No, you got the wrong one.
30:25That's ours.
30:26That's the nine.
30:27No, this is for seven people.
30:28I wouldn't argue with Val, Sam.
30:30This which means business.
30:31No, this is nine.
30:33It's Sandra and George on that as well.
30:35So you're adding two more?
30:36Yes, yes, yes.
30:37Not one?
30:37No, two.
30:38Two, Sandra and George.
30:39I did say a few times.
30:40Okay.
30:41Well, I'm ready for people to arrive now
30:43and get them seated
30:43and make sure they're in the right seats
30:45and so on.
30:46Right, this is the nine.
30:49But I've already done the nine,
30:51but it doesn't matter.
30:52It's gone as well.
30:53Yeah, we'll go on to plan like always.
30:56A little bit last minute
30:57with a couple of things.
30:58Nine, right, that's nine.
30:59That's always to be expected, really.
31:01And this is that.
31:01You've got to put two more settings on there.
31:03Yes, don't worry about that.
31:04We'll do that.
31:13Why don't you sit there
31:14and Joe will sit over here.
31:16You two there.
31:16It's going very well.
31:18They're all dressed up wonderfully, aren't they?
31:20That's my friend Chris.
31:21Look at him.
31:22Just look at him.
31:23Ah!
31:23A bit more warning next time, Val.
31:26Welcome to the evening.
31:28Everyone have a brilliant night.
31:29Have a good night.
31:30Thank you, Val.
31:32I do it because I don't want anybody to be lonely.
31:35I'm here tonight.
31:36There are quite a few people on their own completely.
31:38They wouldn't come out otherwise.
31:40And there are couples who wouldn't come out.
31:42So it's really nice that they come along
31:44and they can join in and they're happy and so on.
31:46After months of planning,
31:48Val needs to get to the end of the night
31:49with a bar full of well-fed and happy guests.
31:53Another pete?
31:55No, another soup.
31:57You're a pete.
31:58Do you remember what you ordered, May?
32:01None of you remember what you've ordered.
32:03Wasting my time writing it all out.
32:06It's all written out here.
32:07They've forgotten what they've ordered now.
32:10Typical.
32:10Uh-oh.
32:11Deep breaths, Val.
32:12You've got this.
32:13So you just have to hope for the best.
32:15And now I've got to eat my soup with a teaspoon.
32:29So that's everything that I need to take with me today.
32:32So I'm just going to go get changed now.
32:34In El Faro?
32:36Right, so that's me ready for this afternoon.
32:39But before I leave, I'm just going to ring my granddad.
32:41Singer Paige is about to set off for her volunteer gig at the care home.
32:45Hello.
32:46Hello.
32:47Where are you?
32:48I've got posture.
32:50I've got work.
32:52It's really important to stay in touch with family back home.
32:55All my family are in the UK.
32:57I'm at the care home this afternoon.
33:00Oh, are you?
33:00Yeah.
33:01At what time?
33:02I start at four.
33:04I ring him every day to check in on him and just make sure he's doing okay.
33:11Bless him.
33:12You look very handsome, granddad.
33:14Thank you very much.
33:16Bye, granddad.
33:19Paige makes a living with a busy career as a singer.
33:22I'm just going to get the last of my picture.
33:24But this afternoon's performance is so important to her, she's doing it for free.
33:30When I got asked to sing at the care home, straight away it was a yes,
33:34because I wanted to give back to the community.
33:38The elderly have always had a special place in my heart with my grandparents
33:43and also one of my first proper jobs as a teenager was working in a care home.
33:50If I can use my voice in a way that helps people and lifts people,
33:56then I'd like to do more of that.
34:01Fingers crossed for a good crowd.
34:03The residents normally respond really well.
34:06They all come out with the glasses of wine and the snacks
34:09and they're all up for a laugh, so that's really nice.
34:13Music, as you know, what did Shakespeare say?
34:17Music be the food of love, play on.
34:19It just gives the whole place a new vibe.
34:26There's a few new faces today.
34:29Nearly ready now.
34:31Good afternoon, everybody.
34:32Can you hear me?
34:33I'm going to start nice and relaxed.
34:36Do we have any Bob Marley fans?
34:39Bob Marley?
34:40Yeah.
34:43How are you?
34:44How can you not be a fan of Bob Marley?
34:46Hit it, Paige.
35:14We always enjoy Paige.
35:16And she really brightens up the place when she comes to have this very young energy.
35:23She always smiles.
35:24You can see she can give you love from her music.
35:28I think she's great.
35:29She's got a young dynamic.
35:31She moves with the music and she's got a good communication with the audience.
35:36The highlight of the week, the joy of music.
35:40It went really, really well today.
35:42It was really busy and people were up dancing in good spirits.
35:46All the songs went down well.
35:49Yeah, it was really nice.
35:50Thank you all so much.
35:53Enjoy the rest of your afternoon and I will see you in hopefully a few weeks.
35:58It just makes everything worthwhile.
36:01It's just so rewarding.
36:03It's one of the best things that I feel that I do here.
36:06And to be able to do that through my job is just amazing.
36:11Coming up.
36:12Get yourself a little drink and let's get ready for the arrival of the main man himself.
36:16Frank and Nick find out if the Eagle has landed and their surprise party pays off.
36:22I'm nervous because we've never done this before and with his family being here, we don't want to blow it.
36:27And it's all getting serious at Val's Halloween Spookfest.
36:31Adults call a expedition.
36:32Go through that door.
36:35Come on.
36:42Thanks for arriving, baby.
36:44Come on, guys.
36:45That's me having you.
36:46In Benidorm, Frank and Nick are about to launch their new party business.
36:51Get yourself to the bar, get yourself a little drink and let's get ready for the arrival of the main
36:55man himself.
36:55They're hoping Nigel's surprise 60th birthday bash will be a hit.
36:59So word will spread and bring in more customers.
37:03I reckon this could be Nigel's daughter, Nick.
37:05What do you reckon?
37:06I've seen a picture of her.
37:07Oh, well, there we go.
37:09Because we cheated and we've seen a picture.
37:11The picture was taken.
37:12Are you my darling?
37:14Daughter I didn't know he hasn't seen for five years.
37:16This is Ian as well, then.
37:17Well, it's going to be a good turn.
37:18Oh, he's going to ball his eyes out.
37:20We're definitely going to make an effort for them, yeah.
37:23Let's go and get ready.
37:24Right, we're going to make an effort and get changed.
37:26You'll see you later, guys.
37:26We're going to get changed.
37:27See you later.
37:28I'm nervous because we've never done this before.
37:31And with his family being here, we don't want to blow it.
37:34However, if the party's pooped, their start-up business could shut down before it gets going.
37:39Oh, hang on.
37:40Here comes the birthday boy.
37:43He's here, he's here, he's here, he's here, he's here, he's here, get in, get in, get in, get in.
37:48All right, Nigel.
37:50Yay!
37:51Eagle has landed, baby!
37:53Happy birthday!
37:55You come to your shop.
37:56No, Nigel, I think it's all, sunshine.
37:58You thought you'd come here today for a quiet meal with your missus.
38:01But tonight, Nigel, you've been stitched up by the wife!
38:05Give Nigel a big round of applause, everybody!
38:07Safe to say, the surprise bit went to plan.
38:10Let's hope the rest goes as well.
38:12Hey, you were born on this day, 29th, 7th, 1962.
38:18Apparently, it was a nightmare at school.
38:21Do you know why we know this?
38:22Do you know why we know this?
38:24Because your brother told us.
38:26I went, did I?
38:27Yeah.
38:27You didn't know I knew your brother, did I?
38:30Well, I didn't until about an hour ago, because I was here to surprise you.
38:33Here's your brother, Howard.
38:35Come on, Howard.
38:35Here he is!
38:36Come on, Howard.
38:37No, we were joking now.
38:39We've got no trouble.
38:40No, he doesn't know what you've got.
38:41Come on, Howard.
38:43He's got no trouble.
38:46You might want to supply some tissues next time, fellas.
38:49After one emotional reunion, Nick's got more up his sleeve.
38:53Here's your daughter, Laura.
38:54I haven't seen her for five years.
38:56Yay!
38:57Yay!
38:58Yay!
38:59Yay!
39:00Yay!
39:03Yay!
39:05Yay!
39:07As Nigel tries to unflabber his ghast, there's only one thing left to do.
39:12After three, one, two, three.
39:14Happy birthday to you.
39:17Happy birthday to you.
39:21Happy birthday, dear Nigel.
39:24Family, friends.
39:25It's farmless, I've got to be honest.
39:26Really, really good.
39:28But I'm starving.
39:29Well, you thought Karen was taking you out for your tea.
39:32But that aside, it's been a good day for Frank and Nick and their rent.
39:36That little bit that we're going to get today helps us a lot.
39:40Like I say, it's due in two days.
39:42But we've managed to scrape it after today.
39:45So, boom.
39:47Boom, indeed.
39:48Let's hope it's boom time for your business as well.
39:58Are we on eight now?
39:59Right, one on table eight.
40:00Seven pâtés to go, yeah.
40:02In Fungirola...
40:03Three pâtés.
40:05Table eight?
40:05Table eight, yeah.
40:07Val's Halloween dinner is in full swing.
40:10Lovely, the soup's lovely.
40:12Really good.
40:13The 85-year-old's built up quite the reputation for putting on an epic bash.
40:18So she needs tonight to go well.
40:21It is very happy.
40:22I've just been round the table.
40:23It's a lovely pâté, homemade pâté.
40:25Lovely homemade soup.
40:26So, so far, so good.
40:28Hooray.
40:29Every time Val does a do, everybody enjoys it.
40:33And some people have gone to an enormous amount of trouble with their costumes.
40:37They have, they have, yes.
40:38I do like dressing up.
40:40I'm the devil woman.
40:42I never expected so many people to be dressed up.
40:48And they've made a huge effort.
40:50They're brilliant.
40:51It's going to be tricky deciding who's the best dressed in this crowd.
40:55Adults competition, go through that door.
41:00Thank you all.
41:02Hooray.
41:03Go round, go round, go round.
41:09They've all got dressed up beautifully, haven't they?
41:11I'm really, really delighted with them.
41:13So it's really fun.
41:23It's been a really good turnout.
41:29Some of them are still coming round again.
41:31They are actually coming round again.
41:34Oh, here she comes.
41:35She's taking bribes.
41:37Come on, Val.
41:38Who pays the most?
41:42In an honest decision, ladies and gentlemen, it's very difficult to decide that Joe is the winner.
41:50Ah, it's Joe, the devil woman.
41:56Oh, lovely.
41:59I love my plants.
42:01That's very nice for all that one.
42:02Yes, Sam.
42:03All right.
42:04Oh, lovely.
42:06I can't believe I won.
42:09So I've got a bottle of bubbly and a nice plant.
42:12It's nice to get dressed up and just have fun, fun, fun.
42:16No, it's been brilliant.
42:17Really nice.
42:18But I'm awfully sorry.
42:20I've got to go and dance now.
42:21Oh, go and do the Monster Bash, Joe.
42:26I feel so happy because they're all dancing.
42:29They love the music.
42:31They're really happy.
42:32They're all pensioners.
42:33It's all about being with people, having company.
42:38And when you live on your own, when you're old, it's very important to have company.
42:42I mean, it's such a great time.
42:44One day I won't be able to, but the moment I love it.
42:47I just enjoy being alive.
42:49Hopefully for a good while yet, Val.
42:53Oh, scary.
42:54Next time on The Costers, landlords Graham and Kay dig into their big breakfast relaunch.
43:00I feel shattered.
43:01And right on cue, Richard tries to impress Val.
43:06And Jojo's new business is bangering out the best of British.
43:11Gotta love a sausage.
43:12Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
43:41And I'll see you next time.
43:41Bye.
43:42You
