00:00Go on, what's the best thing about those Spanish costas?
00:04I like getting the sand in between my toes.
00:06The great shops.
00:07Atmosphere.
00:08Sea.
00:09You hate the sea.
00:10Shut up.
00:11But one thing we could all agree on,
00:13with over 300 days of that glorious sunshine a year,
00:17it sure beats the cold and grey of the old UK.
00:21Ah, this is a lie.
00:23Living that dream can be blooming hard graft.
00:26Misting.
00:27My lads, you're right.
00:28Stress level.
00:30Through the roof.
00:31But at the end of the working day...
00:33Girl power.
00:34Girl power.
00:35Come on, Sam.
00:35Forward.
00:36Booyah.
00:37The quality of life on the costas...
00:42Is priceless.
00:44Cheers.
00:45Peace and love.
00:46Cheers.
00:47That's why there will always be...
00:49Start again, she's waffling.
00:50Oh, Kerry.
00:51A lot cheaper than England.
00:53Everybody's in that friendly zone.
00:54This is heaven.
00:56Bargain-loving Brits in the sun.
01:00Today on the costas...
01:02Class.
01:03It's full-on for bar owners Andy and Matt
01:05as they try to attract some new punters.
01:07I just want to do about 100 things at the same time at night.
01:10You won't know the meaning of the truth, stress.
01:12Come and stand for you.
01:14Singer Wayne and wife Lisa...
01:16Our views are breathtaking.
01:18Desperately hunt down a new home.
01:20We won't fit in this, would we?
01:22No way.
01:23And it's an encore performance for singer Alex...
01:26I've got a little bit of nerves on, but it's going to be fun.
01:29As she plans a right old teaser.
01:32We're asking people to buy a ticket to see a show,
01:35and we want it to be fantastic.
01:45The most important thing for me is coffee.
01:49In the morning.
01:5111am in Fuengirola,
01:53and bar owners Matt and Andy
01:55have an ambitious new plan to bring in the cash.
01:57Right, it's four metres,
02:01so it's going to be from here,
02:06about, I'll say about here.
02:09They want to broaden their clientele and boost business,
02:13so they're boldly going where they haven't gone before.
02:16Today, we're having a Halloween party.
02:20We're opening up at 4pm.
02:23We want to try something different.
02:25We've hired a down to Castle.
02:27For the kids.
02:29Doing a lot of fun games.
02:32Apple dunking.
02:33Also, I want to set a little table out there,
02:35because we're doing face painting as well.
02:38With Matt in charge of the kids' entertainment,
02:41chef Andy is also having to get creative with the food.
02:44Andy's going to be doing a kids' menu.
02:47Chips, cheesy chips.
02:49Korma.
02:50That's quite popular with children,
02:52because it's quite mild.
02:55Burgers.
02:57The pair had another 2am finish last night,
03:00and the bar needs to be fresh and ready to impress in just a couple of hours.
03:04We're on the Hoover for Terrace.
03:07The couple from the West Midlands have been together for 25 years and married for 15.
03:12And, er, give a place a bit of a clean.
03:16They've been building their curry and de pine business for over a year,
03:20working side by side, and it hasn't been easy.
03:24Working together, I wouldn't recommend it.
03:28If you're going, you know, for a couple of...
03:31I don't know why we need all this.
03:33We need chasin' there for the singer.
03:35We'll play things by here.
03:37It's all right.
03:38You're thrown together 24 hours a day.
03:42It's a bit more advertisement for tonight.
03:44Yeah, it's been, er, pretty challenging at the moment, so...
03:49Well, we know you love a challenge.
03:53I normally put it here.
03:56And bringing in a whole new group of regulars with events like today's
04:00is another tough test for the couple.
04:02It's two o'clock, so we've got two hours.
04:05When he's on, I'm going to go and get the shopping,
04:08cos I really do need to make a start.
04:10I've got quite a lot of stuff to do.
04:13We're hoping the whole day's going to be a fun-filled day in Fengerall.
04:20And it's not going to cause me too much stress in that kitchen.
04:24That's what I'm hoping for.
04:26With Matt, front of house, and Andy in the kitchen,
04:29the duo rely on their two additional staff.
04:32Erm, a regular member of staff has got child care commitments.
04:38I'm going to go through to the next day.
04:41So I'm trying to find somebody who can cover the shift.
04:44I know it's short notice, but hope for the best.
04:49Matt?
04:50They're going to need all hands on deck to get this party started.
04:54I need somebody so that I can go shopping.
04:57It's two o'clock.
04:59A lot to do.
05:00A lot to do.
05:08Look at them views.
05:10It's beautiful.
05:12Wow.
05:13On the Costa Granadina,
05:15Wayne and Lisa are just arriving in what they hope will be their new hometown.
05:19This is absolutely fantastic.
05:22Wow.
05:23After almost eight years in touristy Torremolinos,
05:26the couple are checking out the charms of Almanacra.
05:30I bet it wouldn't be expensive to buy a house here.
05:32Not with them views.
05:34That'd be nice.
05:35Won't it just?
05:37Wayne runs a computer company by day and has a busy career as a singer by night.
05:43Which way is it, Lisa?
05:44Which way is it that way?
05:46Oh, my God.
05:49It would have been nice if we could find the right house and have a small bar.
05:53It doesn't really matter where the bar is.
05:54It doesn't have to be in the centre.
05:56It can be anywhere, really.
05:57You can put anything on the map.
05:58But to afford a bar and a house,
06:01they'll have to use their 200,000 euro budget wisely.
06:05Hi.
06:05Hey.
06:06So today, they're seeing a cross-section of properties with Yvonne.
06:09OK.
06:10We're looking at maybe between 150 and 200.
06:14Size wise, how many bedrooms?
06:16Minimum two.
06:17The pair have been actively looking to move from Torremolinos for the past year.
06:22Go on.
06:23Yay.
06:24In the meantime, on television, I said Almanacra.
06:28And I thought, that looks fantastic.
06:31It's got everything we need and more.
06:33It's on the beach.
06:34We're big lovers of Craftdale.
06:36Yes.
06:37And we like curry.
06:38And it adds all that.
06:39A two-minute walk to the curry house, I'll be like,
06:40hey, come on, let's buy this now.
06:42That would be good.
06:43Two minutes away.
06:44So you'll buy a house around a curry house?
06:46Buy one on top of it.
06:49Spicy.
06:51We like other little winding roads and, you know,
06:53just a nice feel to the place.
06:55We live in Torremolinos, so we're in a tourist trap.
06:57The couple have earmarked 30 grand when they sell their current flat to open their bar.
07:02It could be good.
07:03The rock bar.
07:04No.
07:06Oh, she wants to call it one-hand clapping.
07:08Yes.
07:08Not Lisa's bar.
07:11Lisa's bar.
07:12You're barred.
07:15But they've got to find the right house first, and it can't cost more than €170,000.
07:21We could show you an apartment just so that you could compare.
07:26Yeah.
07:27And then we could show you a townhouse that needs some work doing, or a townhouse that's
07:35ready to move in.
07:35Yes.
07:36Perfect.
07:37Wayne and Lisa have been married for five years and moved to Spain in 2017.
07:42As soon as we came here, our life just changed totally.
07:45It's like having a different life.
07:47Totally.
07:48It's almost like being reborn.
07:50If they can find the perfect house, it could be the start of an exciting new chapter.
07:55Wow.
07:55This needs like a little stair lift, doesn't it?
07:58The first property they're seeing is an apartment.
08:02Just has one bedroom, one bathroom, living room, little balcony.
08:05Yeah.
08:06And it's on the market at $110.
08:09That's nice.
08:10Yeah.
08:10It's a great price.
08:11But ideally, they want a house with at least two bedrooms.
08:15Kitchen's too small, isn't it?
08:16Yeah.
08:16That's a shame.
08:17And the balcony.
08:19No.
08:20No.
08:21Okay.
08:22She says no.
08:23I say no.
08:24We won't fit in this, would we?
08:26No.
08:27No way.
08:28Fingers crossed the next apartment will be more up their street.
08:34Coming up, Cockney Sparrow Elix.
08:37Oi.
08:38Drills her troops are for a pearler of a shun.
08:41Yeah, you've done it all before, Vinnie.
08:42You'll be all right this time.
08:44And Chef Andy is winging it.
08:46I don't know what to do with these kids, man.
08:49As he's cooking blind.
08:51I'm just having to make the price sizzle.
09:04Hopefully, Vinnie Lockie's going to take his clothes off.
09:06I think he's going to sing, ladies.
09:08Whether living or holidaying on the costas, you can be sure to find a wealth of entertainment
09:13on your doorstep.
09:15I like all the cabaret shows, singing and dancing.
09:19Yeah, I've seen a good few drag artists in my time.
09:22The entertainment here in Spain is incredible.
09:25You can go out as a family with a two-year-old or a nanny and granddad and everybody will
09:30be entertained.
09:31But there's a lot of competition for performers in these parts, and they work hard to keep
09:36their audiences returning.
09:38Good afternoon, everybody.
09:40And one entertainer who always knows how to work a crowd is London lass, Alex.
09:46After singing in a bang, working the cruises, 15 years ago, she moved to the costas to go
09:52it alone.
09:54The money is better when you work solo.
09:56To earn money out here, I sing in the evenings at hotels and golf clubs and restaurants.
10:06We're taking a step back in time to when Alex's busy life kept her well and truly on her toes.
10:13Toe, toe, heel, heel.
10:14Forward, back, forward, back, forward.
10:18She moved to Spain to be near to her parents, but her dad passed away five years ago, and
10:24two years later, her mum suffered a stroke.
10:26Ta-da!
10:27Oh, God.
10:28Your favourite.
10:29Alex has to juggle her time between treading the boards and looking after her mum.
10:34Not too quickly.
10:38When she had the stroke, it's very depressing.
10:40So it's just spending as much time as I can to make her not depressed, you know, giving
10:45her something to look forward to.
10:46No, no, that's enough.
10:47Take it slow.
10:50Alex and Pam aren't alone, though.
10:52This house has lots of other residents.
10:55Furry ones.
10:57I've got Elliot the dog.
10:58I've got Perdita, the naughty cat, the mother of all the kittens.
11:02I've got Fine, which is one of the only words my mother can say.
11:06So we named it after something she could say.
11:09What a gang, then.
11:10Oh, hello.
11:11There's more.
11:12So we've got three new kittens, and they are absolutely stunning.
11:16I'm going to keep one.
11:18And I've named him Claudio.
11:20I factored something Italian, something Shakespearean this time.
11:24I had a tortoise as well.
11:26And it went into hibernation somewhere.
11:28And I've never seen it again.
11:30Well, it's probably gone somewhere for a bit of peace and quiet.
11:36For a few hours a week, a local age-concern charity provides a care of a Pam, and to give
11:41Alex some time away.
11:43Hi, Pam.
11:44And today she's not using her time off to go shopping or sunning herself on the beach.
11:48See you later, Mum.
11:49Be good.
11:50Alex is putting on a show to raise money for the charity that helps her mum, and she's got to
11:55teach these old dogs some new dancing tricks.
11:58Knee, knee, knee, knee, knee, knee.
12:01Oi!
12:02Oi, oi!
12:02These are the Pearly Kings and Queens, an expat community group who are more used to singing around the Joanna
12:08than shaking her leg.
12:09Yeah, you've done it all before, Vinnie.
12:11You'll be all right this time.
12:13She's drilling them to do a fundraiser as a local cafe in all their pearly regalia.
12:19Curtsy.
12:20The idea is that we're asking people to buy a ticket to see a show, and we want it to
12:24be fantastic.
12:25Back, back, cross, and cha-cha-cha-cha.
12:28Keep working them like that, Alex, and they might be cream cracker before you even get there.
12:32Oi!
12:41He's got his little birthday badges on his T-shirt.
12:48So, this is a photograph which brings back happy memories of coming to Spain on holiday.
12:54We were here in February, and it was Jude's birthday, and it was when he was turning six years old.
13:05What?
13:05Gracie would have been about one and a half, and she's in her little buggy, although she didn't like to
13:12be in it much.
13:12She liked to walk about, didn't she?
13:14Oh, she hated being in that little buggy.
13:20That there specifically is the Guatemala Park near the beach, and we used to visit there quite frequently.
13:27Still do.
13:28Yeah.
13:28Still love it.
13:29One of our favourite spots.
13:30Yeah, beautiful place.
13:39So, off we go.
13:43In Fwengirola, bar owners Matt and Andy have just a couple of hours to get ready for their ambitious, fun
13:49-filled Halloween party.
13:51We are running out of time.
13:52They had the usual late-night finish last night, and now they're a staff member down on what they're hoping
13:58will be a busy and profitable day.
14:01Trying to find somebody to cover the bar.
14:03Not very successful at the bar, not very successful at the moment.
14:05Oh.
14:06I'll text a few people.
14:08I'm waiting for them to come back.
14:09Chef Andy is hoping to bring in the kids with a specially tailored menu.
14:13So, these are for the apple dunking.
14:17We've got a couple of bookings for kids, and we're hoping that people are going to drop in just those.
14:26I definitely won't be trying this one, I can assure you.
14:31Hopefully, Matt might have some news of somebody to work tonight.
14:37Promoter Matt has also organised something big.
14:41It's the first time we've had a bounce cast on the terrace.
14:45But he has no idea if it will fit in the space he's cleared outside.
14:49OK, on the front here.
14:57It's going to be fun.
15:01Blows up quite quickly, actually.
15:05OK, awesome.
15:07Yeah.
15:08Very impressive, yeah.
15:10I might have a sleep on that later.
15:13Looks very comfy.
15:16I'm going to take a couple of photos and put it onto our social media group today.
15:21A successful event today would help Matt and Andy with their dream of moving to buy a bigger bar.
15:27We are selling this property because Andy wants a bigger kitchen.
15:33Can you read Spanish?
15:35And we want to put a bit more live entertainment on.
15:40You good already?
15:43There's been no luck finding an extra pair of hands to help with service.
15:47So Andy, Matt and waitress Lucy will have a lot on their plates.
15:51I don't know what to do with these kids' menus.
15:54How many kids is there?
15:56I don't know.
15:58Because I don't know where the invoices are and everything.
16:01I'm just having to make the prices up.
16:03When you're introducing a new dish, you have to look at how much it costs you.
16:10You have to factor in the man hour time, my time, and also the cost of cooking it with the
16:18electric.
16:19Hot dog in a roll with onions, seven.
16:23Fish fingers, chips and salad, seven.
16:26Chicken, korma and rice, seven.
16:28Yeah?
16:29Yeah.
16:30The kids' prices are finally set, but with the first punters almost here, Matt hasn't even printed the menu.
16:37She's burglary needs to go on that list.
16:40Hang on, Andy, it's opening time.
16:44Is that £6.50?
16:46What is it?
16:47You know, hot dogs.
16:48You can mark that out.
16:49Six or seven?
16:51Six euros.
16:52Hurry up, Matt.
16:53Look who's here.
16:54Are you having a reservation?
16:55Yes, for six people, is it?
16:58Yeah, but we are only five.
17:00Yeah, could I get you a drink?
17:02Two cokes.
17:03Two cokes?
17:05Uh, five and penny apples.
17:07Okay, no problem.
17:08Short-staffed and already on the back foot.
17:10They've got their work cut out if today's going to be a hit.
17:15Meet now party people!
17:21Where can you go and see Tom Jones, Elvis, Liam Gallagher, all in one night?
17:28It's just amazing.
17:29The entertainment here is cheap, tacky and amazing.
17:34That's no way to talk about the Costas tribute act, Carol.
17:37On a typical night out, you can see all the legends, past and present.
17:42I love tribute acts because they're nice and cheap and they're usually as good as the real thing.
17:46We've seen Wham.
17:48Oh, Wham were brilliant.
17:49They were really good, wasn't it?
17:50Ed Sheeran.
17:51We're going to the tribute Coldplay band, aren't we?
17:54Coldplay.
17:55Yeah.
17:56Can't get tickets, can't afford them, so we have to go to the tribute band in Benidorm.
18:00We never met a Welsh because we Welsh.
18:02Tom Jones.
18:02Yeah.
18:03Tom Jones act was really good.
18:05Benidorm.
18:06Benidorm Tom.
18:08I've seen the Bruno Mars tribute act, phenomenal.
18:11The Queen tribute act.
18:13I've seen Liam Gallagher there.
18:15It was brilliant.
18:16I'll tell you what, I've seen Oasis a few times, yeah, and he was better.
18:19That's how good he was.
18:27I like the way that it's just so close to the beach as well, just down that little windy road
18:31and the castle and stuff, you know.
18:32Yeah, perfect.
18:34Singer Wayne and Lisa, his wife and roadie, are planning a move from the touristy Torremolinos
18:39to the quaint coastal town of Almanacar.
18:42You can see it's a great-sized property, 136 square words.
18:47Yeah.
18:48This is more like it.
18:49With the possibility of converting this downstairs kitchen into a garage.
18:55Just driving there.
18:56Which would really, really add a huge amount of value to the property.
18:59Ready?
19:00Bathroom.
19:04This is like the game changer.
19:06I will do it tomorrow.
19:08Yeah.
19:09They've been hoping to move for the past year and have already tried Torrox Pueblo not far
19:14from near her.
19:15It reminds me of a holiday home.
19:17Yeah, she hasn't got that thing that's what Lisa wants.
19:19But they've now decided the more lively Almanacar is the place to be.
19:24The price of the apartment that we bought, they've gone up so much so we would be able
19:29to have a house.
19:29You know, we could have a front door and no stairs and stuff like that.
19:33The sale of their three-bed Torremolinos flash should give them around 200,000 euros to spend.
19:38We're thinking of maybe looking at getting a bar and having this like Craftdale rock and
19:44roll bar.
19:45Then we could tone down the gigs so we would maybe do two shows a week and then the other
19:49time we would be running our own bar.
19:52That's the kind of vision that we've got.
19:54That's what I want.
19:55We need about 25, 30k or just something like that.
19:59That would launch us.
20:01To fund the bar, the new house can't be more than 170,000 euros.
20:07So you have two rooms.
20:08On each day.
20:10Well, this is perfect.
20:11We have a room like this that we put all the guitars in.
20:15Something like this is a great storage room for us.
20:18This huge townhouse is a fixer-upper and has four bedrooms.
20:22Double what Wayne and Lisa initially wanted.
20:27Oh, there's just so many different rooms here.
20:30I mean, this is perfect for us, really, isn't it?
20:31Oh, wow.
20:32Oh, the views.
20:36But Lisa, you see here.
20:38You need a proper kitchen.
20:39Yeah, I mean, we would manage with this just to get going.
20:42Oh, if I could just move in today, please.
20:46Wayne's in love, but it's Lisa who gets the casting vote.
20:50Look at that, Lisa.
20:50Wow.
20:52That is fab.
20:54This is like King of the Castle.
20:56I can see the whole coast.
20:57They're very straight and they said immediately that the apartment was not for them.
21:01And likewise, they're very enthusiastic about this one.
21:04Do you like this one?
21:05Yes.
21:05Yeah, I think it's pretty much perfect.
21:07Give me the key.
21:09It's got all they want.
21:11Definitely a winner.
21:12A winner?
21:13A winner, Lisa.
21:14A winner.
21:14Yeah.
21:16You know, we could have potential to look at buying this one.
21:17But the big question is, can they afford it and have enough left to invest in the bar?
21:25Coming up.
21:26What?
21:28Wardrobe Wars for singer Alex.
21:30No.
21:31No.
21:31That's definitely the one I'm wearing.
21:33Oh, God.
21:35And a meltdown's on the menu for Chef Andy.
21:38You won't know the mean, the true stress.
21:40Come and stand here.
21:52The grimy east end of London is about to arrive in sunny Fwingirola.
21:57I've got a pair of shoes.
21:59They're very nice.
22:00Cockney singer Alex has a beat Manfred Mann.
22:03That's a plan in Cockney rhyming slang.
22:05To raise cash for a local carer's charity.
22:10I've got a lot of shoes.
22:11She's been working the cost of pearly kings and queens hard in rehearsals.
22:15As they aim to raise 300 euros.
22:19But before that, in just a couple of hours, there'll be more crowds to be entertained.
22:24I'm looking forward to tonight's show.
22:26I hope for both the owner of the premises and myself that it's a busy night.
22:31Alex doesn't have a stylist, but she does have her mum.
22:36Mum, do you think this one's too much?
22:38Yeah.
22:39Yeah?
22:39Yeah.
22:39All right, I'll go and tone it down a bit.
22:41Thanks, Pam.
22:42I didn't want to say anything.
22:44I don't know.
22:44I feel a bit sensible.
22:47What?
22:47One more.
22:48The show's in a couple of hours, you know.
22:53No.
22:53No.
22:54That's definitely the one I'm wearing.
22:55Oh, God.
22:57We never want to wear what our mothers tell us to, so I'm definitely wearing this one.
23:01Maybe I'll put on thicker tights and a different jacket, but this is the fun one, so I'm going
23:06with this one.
23:07I'm sure Pam will come round eventually.
23:13OK, Mum.
23:14See you later.
23:15Nice hat.
23:16Not sure if Pam would approve, though.
23:18And you be a good boy.
23:20She's performing at a bar in nearby Mijas, and being a one-woman show, she's got to do
23:25her own sound.
23:33There's not many in tonight, but I'm hoping that a few more will come very soon, because
23:38the show's going to start.
23:39So I've got a little bit of nerves on, but it's going to be fun.
23:43Let's hope word gets out, because every singer needs an audience.
23:47So this is the Tina Klernowid.
23:51A little bit of the swinging sixes.
23:55I've got the sharing as well, but I don't feel like sharing.
24:00That's a shame.
24:01Sharing is caring.
24:03Right, I'd better get on.
24:04Right on time, because it's filling up.
24:08It's the operation.
24:12Good evening, everybody.
24:14Good evening.
24:15Ladies and gentlemen, it's only two big volunteers.
24:19Ladies, perhaps you could recommend a man to me.
24:23Good luck, lads.
24:24And I've got a little something here for you both to wear.
24:28Now, gentlemen, it's very, very easy.
24:31I'd like you to shake your maracas.
24:38Even on a quieter night, Alex's maracas bring all the boys to the stage.
24:43It was a bit of a slow start, but the people started coming in, and they were joining in.
24:47And, well, we had a bit of fire.
24:49I hope they all had a bit of fun.
24:50Alex's energy has given the crowd a great night out.
24:53And let's hope she can work the same magic on the fundraiser.
24:56Lots of good things on the horizon.
24:58And I'm feeling quite positive financially and, you know, for the work that I do.
25:12Have you seen a knife?
25:14No.
25:15Just across town...
25:16Have you got it?
25:17Yeah, we've got it.
25:18Matt and Andy's bar is hosting its first Halloween party.
25:21A bold move.
25:23We've got some apple dunking and musical chairs and stuff like that, so...
25:28Very nice.
25:29Plus, we've got live entertainment at 9 o'clock tonight.
25:32But there's still a lot of preparation left to do to make the day a hit.
25:36I'm just printing off a menu now.
25:38That's a menu at the moment.
25:40It's on the QR code.
25:42With one team member absent, Matt, Andy and waitress Lucy are struggling to cope with
25:47the numbers.
25:49Because we shot on staff, it's bar service only.
25:54Enjoy yourselves and have a good one.
25:59Trying to do about 100 things at the same time, I know.
26:02As well as the child-sized dishes...
26:04Right, let's print some children's menus off.
26:08Andy is cooking up his usual curries for the grown-ups.
26:11Is it medium, these Rogan Joshes?
26:15Oh, look at the same concept.
26:16Yeah, all's ass.
26:19It could be mild, medium or hot.
26:21Andy and Matt are hoping that today will be the first of many family events here.
26:25Hi guys, you all right?
26:28Obviously, better to be busy than not busy.
26:34Anyway, my strategy is I will not be rushed by anybody.
26:39People will have to wait till the food's ready.
26:42I am one person.
26:43That is it.
26:44Is this your menu on the floor?
26:47Matt, he's talking to you.
26:49What is it?
26:50Every time I ask you something, you don't answer.
26:52The main reason that people come in this bar is for food.
26:57Yeah, you can take these.
27:00Matt?
27:01Matt, where are you?
27:03And when there's entertainment on, they come in for that.
27:06But food is the staple of what keeps us going.
27:10You know what table this is on?
27:12First order.
27:13Well, let loose it, okay.
27:17That's how it's quite so for a moment.
27:20This lady's chicken bowl says nearly ready.
27:23Just wish we had one more member of staff.
27:26Matt?
27:29And more people are turning up.
27:32Evergen Josh, everybody.
27:34Yeah.
27:35You all know the meaning of the true stress.
27:38Come and stand here.
27:40The kitchen's not big enough to have about 100 orders at the same time.
27:46Service, somebody, service.
27:49But Andy's doing all right, you know.
27:51Are you sure about that, Matt?
27:53I'm going to drop it.
27:54One, two.
27:57Careful.
27:59Lots of orders.
28:02It doesn't really work doing full children's menu
28:06and trying to do it.
28:08It's too much for one person.
28:09So I think next time we'd have to have somebody helping with the food
28:14because we've got the space.
28:15It's my best Rogan Josh career, this one.
28:18One, two, one, two, one, two.
28:20With Matt helping out on waiter duties,
28:22the Halloween party games have had to take a back seat.
28:26Give us about half an hour and we'll be out and have a few games.
28:32That'd be great.
28:33Thanks, guys.
28:34But with the food orders mounting up,
28:36there's an unexpected power problem that could shut down the whole event.
28:41I need the electric.
28:42It's gone off.
28:43I can't cook.
28:45Gone off?
28:46Yeah.
28:47Electric's on.
28:47Well, it's not working.
28:54My dear, TV there.
28:56I'm happy.
28:58That's all I need.
28:59In Almanacar, singer Wayne and wife Lisa have fallen in love with the townhouse.
29:04My dear, TV there.
29:08She's in charge.
29:11They're looking to make the move from bustling Torremolinos
29:14and set up their own music bar here.
29:17You could fit a double bed in here.
29:19This house is gigantic.
29:20Yeah.
29:21It's got views that you never get.
29:23360 degree views.
29:26You can see the castle there.
29:27Yeah.
29:28I like it.
29:30They have 200,000 euros to spend,
29:33but they need some money left for the bar,
29:35so their maximum budget is £170,000.
29:38It's got the location.
29:39It's got more room than we could ever imagine.
29:42The Corey house is going to take me 20 minutes to walk to there from here.
29:48So is this dream house within their reach?
29:52This one is £185,000.
29:54£185,000.
29:55OK.
29:55Negotiable.
29:56Ah, OK.
29:57At £15,000 over their ideal price,
30:00it looks like they'll need that wiggle room,
30:02or could they go for something cheaper?
30:05We've got one more to look at, but this one's...
30:08You never know.
30:10Estate agent Yvonne has another smaller townhouse to tempt them with.
30:14It looks pretty good.
30:14Nice-sized balconies.
30:16The house looks in pretty good condition.
30:18Still the hat's set on the other one, to be honest with you.
30:21Have a quick shufty anyway.
30:23You wouldn't even have to mess around if you bought this.
30:25You know, that's the difference, isn't it?
30:26It's just like brand new.
30:27And we have two terraces.
30:32Oh, wow.
30:34It's a lovely little terrace.
30:35Oh, yeah.
30:36And the views again.
30:37I like this one as well.
30:38Yeah.
30:39The couple have a lot to discuss.
30:42Kind of just need to find out.
30:43Have a good chat.
30:44But, yeah, I'll have a chat with Lisa.
30:46And then just see if we can kind of, like, make an offer.
30:49Yeah.
30:50You know, and just see how much we can get it for.
30:52Thank you for showing us around.
30:53Yeah, it's been fun.
30:54It's been great fun.
30:55To help make the decision, Wayne has just one thing on his mind.
30:59Curry.
31:00It's weird that we want to be on the other way, don't we?
31:04Feels like you've had well-tops.
31:07If I was an entertainer, my stage name would be Lucy Sparkles.
31:12If I was going to be a performer, my stage name would be Sexy Steve.
31:19And I'd be definitely a dragette.
31:21Deep inside, everyone fancies themselves as a performer.
31:25So here, on the costas for one night only, who would you be?
31:29We'd be the deal, aren't you?
31:30Yeah.
31:31We'd just be a double act.
31:32Comedy.
31:33Comedy duo.
31:36What would it be?
31:37Let me think.
31:42Don't let me rush you.
31:44My drag name would be Foo-Foo Lamar.
31:46Are you sure about that?
31:48Jubbly Jewlies.
31:52Juicy.
31:55Jubbly Jewlies, juicy, jolly fun afternoon.
32:01Now that was worth waiting for.
32:091,000 miles away from the sound of bow bells, entertainer Alex is breaking out the pearls.
32:16Look at that.
32:17She's getting ready for today's big charity performance, leading Spain's pearly kings and queens through the Lambeth Walk.
32:24I hope they remember the steps.
32:25I won't be needing my wig tonight.
32:27That's her for emergencies when I haven't done my hair.
32:30Her mum, Pam's hair still needs doing, though.
32:33My mum used to be a hairdresser, didn't your mum?
32:36As she said, a good hairdresser can put up hair with just one pin.
32:42Pam suffered a stroke a few years ago.
32:45Today's show is about raising much-needed cash for the charity that provides respite for Alex.
32:50You know, I feel like I'm the mother now.
32:52They sent two people round to assess my situation.
32:55It was actually a relief.
32:56I cried when they said, yes, you do need help.
32:59I was like, oh.
33:01No.
33:01In the kitchen?
33:02In the bathroom?
33:02Out here?
33:03Yeah.
33:04She put it out here?
33:05Let me just check it's not on here.
33:07We need these charities.
33:08We do, because we haven't got the support of home.
33:11We haven't got our fabulous NHS.
33:14I don't know where I would be without the help.
33:17She's what she doesn't like first.
33:21So she ends up with the best thing that's on her plate.
33:26With both of them fed and watered, the pair can head off for a night on the town, where
33:31they're hoping for a good turnout.
33:33I was sort of expecting 30 to 60 people, but I think we're on over the 100, so I am
33:39really
33:39pleased.
33:40And four euros from every ticket is going to the charity.
33:48Good afternoon, everybody.
33:51Hello.
33:52Can you hear me, mother?
33:54Once you get down the way, any evening, any day, you'll find us all doing the level, doing
34:04the level.
34:05All together?
34:06Oi.
34:09For Purdy Kings and Queens, I'll stay perfect, and the dosh is being counted out.
34:14Alex, over to you.
34:19It's 1,030 euros.
34:23Bosh.
34:24Nice one.
34:26Oh, today really exceeded our expectations, so I'm absolutely over the moon.
34:31They were spending money on helping others, so we are now going to help put some money
34:35back into their fund, so they can continue the good work.
34:38Alex and her parade of pearly performers have barreled their way to a huge total.
34:44Best behaviour, remember I told you?
34:45Yes.
34:47You've done your ma proud.
34:51Coming up, it's decision time for Wayne and Lisa.
34:55We've got that house, I'm going to be so happy.
34:58And at Matt and Andy's bar.
35:00It's all going wrong.
35:01Oh, no.
35:02The calamities keep coming.
35:04Oh, come on, Heather.
35:05Don't rain.
35:06Don't rain.
35:11Don't rain.
35:23Hello, Wayne.
35:24Hey.
35:25I've got a long time.
35:26An almanacr on the Costa Granadina.
35:29This woman comes for the best curry.
35:31You know, Wayne, dear.
35:32We love this place.
35:33I know.
35:33Singer Wayne and his wife, Lisa, are dreaming of a life-changing move from Torremolinos.
35:39And they're mulling it over over their favourite food.
35:42Very good.
35:43And Naga's fantastic.
35:44And I always get lamb and prawn.
35:47And Lisa just gets a chicken bolty.
35:50Chicken bolty, Lisa.
35:52If we do do this, it's going to change everything, really.
35:55Just change our lifestyle.
35:57And just ground us a little bit more.
36:00Wine is coming.
36:00Who is the wine tester?
36:02Oh, Lisa.
36:03Yeah.
36:05She always tests it.
36:06She don't know what she's doing.
36:09They've seen three properties,
36:10but the clear leader is the second one,
36:12a four-bedroom townhouse.
36:14But its 185,000 euro price tag
36:17leaves little from their 200k budget
36:20to invest in a bar,
36:22especially as it needs work.
36:24We could just go in with a really...
36:25Cheeky.
36:26Cheeky, yeah.
36:27And the second one?
36:29Yeah.
36:30You can do it.
36:30You can be as cheeky as you like.
36:32I dare you.
36:33So then I look bad and you look good.
36:37You can just live in the bottom half of the house.
36:39I can do all the top end up,
36:40all brand new,
36:41front room through the kitchen.
36:42I'll just live in the bottom bit
36:43until I do it all.
36:45What do you think?
36:45I'll just sleep on the terrace.
36:48We might as well just do it now
36:49rather than hanging around.
36:52Yeah.
36:52If I can get that house,
36:53I'm going to be so happy.
36:55They're going to go for it.
36:56Time to share the news
36:57with estate agent Yvonne.
36:59Speaker.
37:01Hello, Wayne.
37:02How are you doing?
37:03Are you all right?
37:04Yeah, good.
37:04Good.
37:05We were very happy with the second one.
37:09Before they can buy,
37:10they need to put their flat on the market.
37:12So we're going to basically
37:14try and move quite fast
37:16and we're going to get somebody
37:17to come and do re-evaluation
37:19and see if we can try and get rid of
37:20the one in Toru
37:22because there's quite high demand
37:23in Toru Millions at the moment.
37:25Okay.
37:25And once they've sold,
37:27they'll make their cheeky offer.
37:28And this is your prawn,
37:31lamb, meat, and naga.
37:33Wow.
37:33Spicy.
37:34Spicy.
37:35Now it's done.
37:37Yeah, no, that's absolutely perfect.
37:39It's super exciting,
37:40so, yeah.
37:41Fingers crossed for this one.
37:43What, the house or the curry?
37:45A long day,
37:46but very, very worth it.
37:48Worth every minute.
37:50Cheers.
37:50To the future.
37:52Cheers.
37:53Cheers.
37:54Cheers.
37:55Cheers.
37:56Cheers.
37:59It's not working.
38:00I can't cook.
38:02In Fuengirola,
38:03there's a crisis in the kitchen
38:04for Andy and Matt.
38:06Why do you have the most?
38:08I don't know where they are.
38:09You have the most.
38:10Me.
38:11That's a good idea.
38:12And I love to.
38:13Oh, yeah.
38:15Thankfully,
38:16with Matt's techie know-how,
38:18the electricity is back on
38:19and they're back in business.
38:21There you go.
38:22You like them?
38:24I'll give you some
38:25nuts and bolts.
38:26One bowl of chicken.
38:27Well, it's delicious.
38:29Lovely.
38:29Two chips.
38:31They're hosting a Halloween party
38:33with a new children's menu
38:34to try and expand their clientele
38:36and rake in some cash.
38:39Service.
38:39So there was Halloween party on
38:41until we bring the kids
38:42and they'll have good fun.
38:43There is never enough
38:44events for the children,
38:46so the bouncy castle is perfect.
38:48They love it.
38:49The plan is, like,
38:50give the kids some sweets first.
38:52There you go, guys.
38:53And we'll do some party games.
38:56Some sweets for you guys.
38:59With the punters flooding in
39:01and one staff member absent,
39:02games organiser Matt
39:03has been otherwise occupied.
39:06We're two hours late.
39:08We're two hours late
39:10because I can't be in
39:11ten thousand things.
39:13We're meant to be doing the games
39:14and I can't be...
39:17But with help from waitress Lucy
39:19to cue the music,
39:20their games can finally commence.
39:22Right, kids?
39:23Kids?
39:24Can you hear me?
39:26Just a couple of hours late.
39:27I want you all to sit on these chairs.
39:31And you, come on.
39:33Come on.
39:35Are you doing musical chairs first?
39:38I won't do, I won't do.
39:39Right.
39:40Lucy, are you ready?
39:46Hit for butter.
39:48I'm just going to go
39:49and have five minutes.
39:50Yes.
39:51Despite the stresses of the party,
39:54Andy's cooked up 18 children's meals today.
39:56Stop.
39:57Alongside their regular adult menu.
39:59Oh.
40:02But the day's not over yet.
40:04They're hoping to bring in more grown-up punters
40:06for the evening shift.
40:07I'd love this time of year.
40:08Don't be dressing up.
40:10Like friends, Kenny and Sue.
40:11Andy and Matt were having this tonight.
40:13We thought we'd come down
40:14and have a bit of fun
40:15and support their bar.
40:17But it's turning wet
40:18as well as dark outside.
40:20Oh, come on, River.
40:22Don't rain.
40:23Don't rain.
40:24It's all going wrong.
40:25Oh, no.
40:26Oh, dear, dear, dear, dear.
40:28With singer Laura Ellen booked to perform...
40:32Blinking weather.
40:33Now they've got the rain threatening
40:35to derail the evening's bookings.
40:37I was going to put it on the terrace,
40:38but the thing is...
40:39It's raining.
40:41It's raining.
40:42It's raining.
40:43It's raining.
40:44Sorry, plan B.
40:45Sorry, buddy.
40:47I was meant to be singing outside,
40:48but it's Saturday raining,
40:51so I know I have to sing inside,
40:52which is not a problem.
40:53Good old Spanish weather.
40:56Despite the wet,
40:57the show must go on.
41:00If you're all alone,
41:02pick up the phone.
41:05Who are you going to call?
41:06Ghostbusters!
41:10I am afraid of no ghosts.
41:16It's been dripping
41:18and a bit cold and windy tonight.
41:22Hopefully,
41:23the weather's going to be on our side
41:25the next time.
41:27If we have extra staff,
41:28that means it frees me up
41:30for doing activities for the kids.
41:35We've sold a lot of food today,
41:38which is really good.
41:39A lot of new people coming in the bar.
41:42A lot of washing up today.
41:44Most definitely,
41:45we will learn from our mistakes today.
41:48It also opens up
41:50another avenue
41:52because
41:53if people want to book
41:55children's parties here
41:57and they want to bounce the castle,
42:00you know,
42:00we can do that as well.
42:02Good plan, Andy.
42:03The future looks rosy.
42:05I'm looking forward to my bed tonight,
42:07so...
42:08My legs are killing me.
42:10My feet's killing me.
42:11My feet are killing me.
42:13Yeah.
42:16And big news.
42:18Matt and Andy have now successfully
42:20sold the bar in Twangirola.
42:22They're plotting their next step
42:23to securing another watering hole
42:25with a bigger kitchen
42:26to rustle up those curries in.
42:30Next time on The Costas...
42:32Now...
42:33Paula's looking for luck.
42:34I'm sure there's one down my boot.
42:36Things get manic for Pet Rescuer Marina.
42:39I'm so bit behind on my schedule.
42:41I've got to catch up
42:43with what I'm doing.
42:43And will Danny's party be pooped?
42:46It's worrying
42:46because the last thing
42:48you want to do at a party
42:49is run out of alcohol.
