00:00:18It's do-or-die time as alligator season enters the final ten days
00:00:26Look at the size of them new babies
00:00:29You can't fill up a boat with alligators like that
00:00:31We gotta make changes very quick
00:00:34Gators are wise enough to hunters' tricks
00:00:36Forcing swampers to do whatever it takes to keep their tag count on track
00:00:41Hey look, there's a creek
00:00:43Looks like the water's up, I think we can get back there
00:00:45You think so?
00:00:46Yeah, that ain't never been fished
00:00:48Chasing legendary giants into unforgiving waters
00:00:52Oh, straight in the hook
00:00:53Big alligator
00:00:54If it's Poseidon, he's 12 foot
00:00:56I think we might have a chance to get Poseidon
00:00:59Betting on untested territory
00:01:01This is a new spot
00:01:03If it turned into a flop, we're gonna have to catch up
00:01:06And going it alone
00:01:07I always alligator hunting with a fart
00:01:10I never went by myself
00:01:14Oh my god, look how big
00:01:16All to beat the swamp
00:01:18That's him, look right there
00:01:19Before it beats them
00:01:21Watch out!
00:01:22Hang on, I'm coming
00:01:23This thing's big!
00:01:24Woohoo!
00:01:25Oh yeah!
00:01:26Woohoo!
00:01:28Woohoo!
00:01:32Run this back road, follow your life
00:01:35All the pain through the struggle and the strife
00:01:38Now there's just one thing you've got left to do
00:01:41Light a mask, let it burn, and break on through
00:01:49Like a world was rolling, you're out of control
00:01:55Like a loaded pistol, like a raging storm
00:01:58You got thunder in your veins
00:02:01You won't stop till your dying day
00:02:04And here comes your way
00:02:07And here comes your way
00:02:08And here comes your way
00:02:17It's 6 p.m. on day 20 of alligator season
00:02:24with water levels two feet higher than usual joey edgar and his daughter cali are wrapping up their
00:02:31hunt in mardi gras pass where joey was venting abnormally deep water would draw in the biggest
00:02:37monsters in the swamp but today's catch has been underwhelming you fished this spot with me last
00:02:43year and it was really good i think it's the water that could be what's going on we had a
00:02:48lot of bait
00:02:49hanging monte gras pass is a really special place that just grows big gators i've had a lot of success
00:02:56there in the past really big alligators but i'm really concerned we should see more activity
00:03:04they're just not they're not out one more line you ready i got one alligator on that line gotta be
00:03:17the line over there yeah i think i can grab it
00:03:29oh he broke the pole should be a good one
00:03:40missed it
00:03:43oh straighten the hook
00:03:48cool he's straight in that hook you know how much weight it takes to bend a hook like that
00:03:52how much big alligator big big alligator look how much he opened it to it yeah joey knows there's only
00:04:00one gator in this area big enough to bend his hook poseidon and broke the pole we're gonna put a
00:04:07fresh
00:04:07pole in a good hook we ain't playing with it
00:04:11poseidon's an alligator that dad and i have been after for years and this alligator is always a step
00:04:17ahead of us but the way things are going this year we might have a chance we might get him
00:04:22to follow the
00:04:22water down to some of these deeper pools i think we might have a chance to get this i actually
00:04:28know
00:04:29how big you think he was if it's poseidon he's 12 foot or better if we drive up on him
00:04:35you got to have that big rifle ready i will let that thing eat let that 270 bark
00:04:44tomorrow we're gonna get this alligator
00:05:02as the sun sinks toward the horizon in pierre park king of the swamp troy landry and his deckhand
00:05:09pickled wheat are wrapping up a disappointing day catching nothing but small gaugers in one of
00:05:15troy's favorite honey holes hey we're in a hatchery over here all we're catching is babies look at the
00:05:23size of them little babies very frustrating we're not catching good we're struggling it's real hard to
00:05:32catch your big alligators they know they're being hunted we got to make changes very soon very quick
00:05:39yesterday morning listen i heard some guys talking and they said they got a real good spot
00:05:45we've been fishing our old spots for a little while what you think captain what i think is you can't
00:05:51listen to other people we sit at the coffee pot in the morning every morning and i've grown a
00:05:57relationship with these old men our locals around here and i like to trust them and i want to listen
00:06:02to their advice and right now i'm hearing that they've saw huge alligators in this one area i'm
00:06:09really gung-ho i want to try it out i want to listen to my locals and let's just see
00:06:14what we catch
00:06:14it's worth the gamble today i really want to go they said they got a bunch of giants over there
00:06:20they see them all the time i know everybody says that but i really want to try it out what
00:06:25do you think
00:06:26i know where you're coming from they pump you up you get excited but i got burnt so many times
00:06:35i almost rather just stick to my routine we got so many places to hunt already we can't just go
00:06:43out
00:06:43on every wild goose chase every time somebody tell you they know where they got a big alligator
00:06:47but she's part of my team so i'm gonna give her the respect she deserves i'm gonna take over that
00:06:54if you really want to go pee i'm gonna bring you okay but if it turns into a flop we're
00:07:01gonna have to
00:07:01catch up after it will be a day and a half we're gonna lose we have to catch it up
00:07:06what if we catch
00:07:08real good it's gonna help us it's gonna advance it i get a day off or what maybe depend how
00:07:14good we catch
00:07:18all right i want to go i'll take it it's worth the gamble to me
00:07:39as the day winds down in lairman bayou veteran swamper bruce mitchell and his
00:07:45deckhand and rebeck suspect the gators have wised up and stopped biting in their hunting grounds
00:07:52and with only two to show for the day bruce is hoping high water might present an opportunity to
00:07:58fish a new area
00:08:04hey look looks like the water's up i think we can get back there you think so pretty narrow yeah
00:08:09that
00:08:10ain't never been fished never ever really yeah the water's always so low over here you can't get back
00:08:16here me and ann's gonna slip back in this bar that we normally can't get back there it's so muddy
00:08:20well if we can get back here in the back he's gonna catch gators it's deep right here for sure
00:08:26we need to set some lines up here okay we get way back here in the back i know we
00:08:31can get some good
00:08:31gators i bet there's some big ones in here i hope so like i said ain't nobody ever fished that
00:08:38the savvy vet believes the new territory is full of unsuspecting gators so he decides to set fresh
00:08:46lines we're just gonna bait some lines up through here they're popping up i know every day we come
00:08:53up with a strategy to figure out you know where we want to hang our baits are the water levels
00:08:57going
00:08:57to be high or low look there's another one over there yep they're all in here if the water levels
00:09:03are high the gators are going really far back into the woods so there's a lot of of thinking that
00:09:09goes into this before we get out there and hunt these gators look there's gators one in the water
00:09:14one on land there's a fish yeah cool look at all those garfish back here you want to go bow
00:09:21fishing tonight i can teach you how let's do it
00:09:39over in pierre park don brewer and his deckhand calum landry are hoping to end on a high note
00:09:46after catching only two gators today that's the last line right there big boy hope we got one on it
00:09:55yeah i hope so
00:10:03that don't look good not that though not good not good
00:10:10man they got a lot going straight down but i don't think i see it now it's holding the
00:10:13see it's holding the weeds up oh yeah come on look over the bank dude dude that is a big
00:10:17old gator
00:10:19dude is he alive i don't know
00:10:23huh
00:10:30oh yeah he's alive yeah yeah that's a good gator
00:10:36all right get the gun
00:10:42let's get this over with yeah look how he's just looking at it boy he looks angry
00:10:49we're a 10-foot gator he's making it easy
00:11:01that was a hell of a shot you know what i'm saying
00:11:05what a hell of a shot man this is a nice gator to finish the day off you're damn right
00:11:10all right
00:11:11let's get him in the boat this is a good catch to wrap up the day but don has some
00:11:17bad news that
00:11:18could derail the end of their season i gotta talk to you about something too though what the hell
00:11:24you mean you gotta talk to me about well um i apologize
00:11:32but i'm gonna be here tomorrow
00:11:35this is gonna be my last line for two days no dude i gotta be back in oklahoma in the
00:11:42morning
00:11:43i gotta be there at 9 a.m i got a pre-con meeting and sign a contract for a
00:11:47new job
00:11:48oh you're not i got to be there there's no possible i gotta be there you're not serious right
00:11:53now i apologize that's just part of business i gotta go back to oklahoma i got a pre-construction
00:12:02meeting and sign a contract first thing in the morning i gotta drive 13 14 hours to get back to
00:12:07oklahoma so i waited all day to tell calum that i'm not going to be here tomorrow yeah why are
00:12:15you
00:12:15telling me this now why didn't tell me this earlier i mean that's the worst news i heard all day
00:12:20i didn't want you to get mad and i ain't gonna lie to you i didn't want to listen to
00:12:24you all day long
00:12:25okay straight up we ain't about to hear it all afternoon and probably tomorrow we can go home
00:12:29it's our last line so i got about another 35 40 minutes of it and i'm good with only three
00:12:34gators
00:12:35caught today the hunters are way behind schedule and don desperately needs his deckhand to have a
00:12:41big day tomorrow if they hope to fill their season quota now there's another little kicker to it i ain't
00:12:48gonna lie to you i would love to see 10 gators in the boat tomorrow 10 gators i know you
00:12:54can do this
00:12:55i got 10 gator quarter he told me i better catch 10 gator i'm like dude you're putting a lot
00:13:01of pressure
00:13:02on me right now i mean it's hard enough to go by myself but much less 10 me and you
00:13:07only got three
00:13:09i know you can do it i want you to prove to yourself you can do it cowboy up big
00:13:15boy cowboy up
00:13:30you ready to catch some fish oh i'm ready bruce and anna are returning to the remote canal they
00:13:35discovered earlier while their baited lines draw in gators anna is seizing the opportunity to teach
00:13:42her captain how to bow fish and fill their freezers how's it going my really good friend i always go
00:13:51bow fishing with is travis the best bow fishing captain around i've done bow fishing for a long time
00:13:56and i love it and it's just for fun for me but mr bruce he's never bow fished before i
00:14:01was shocked
00:14:02and i'm like you're gonna come do what i love to do tonight and show you my world
00:14:09you ready yeah i'm pumped oh it's gonna be fun well anna done drug me out here tonight to do
00:14:15some
00:14:15boat fishing she said it's easy she's gonna teach me so i don't know if we're gonna come back with
00:14:20something to eat or not oh we got lights they're all around the boat we've ran the whole boat oh
00:14:25yeah
00:14:25everything they'll fish from a specialized flat-bottomed boat with flood lights mounted on the sides
00:14:32these lights cast a wide shadow beam to illuminate fish just under the surface
00:14:38to ensure they don't lose their catch the arrow is tethered to a line that's fed from a reel mounted
00:14:44on the bow mr bruce are you are you good at loading it are you okay i'm ready
00:14:56you shoot straight at them or a little bit below them a little bit below them mr bruce ah
00:15:03you just got to be patient you're not going to catch them all but the ones you do catch they're
00:15:21going to be well earned
00:15:21see anything that's first nope i'm looking though you got to look for that wake on the fish yeah and
00:15:29then you'll be good come on fishies there's a fish there's a fish ah dang it mr bruce
00:15:46hey there's a cigar i'm gonna take him did i not get him nope ah hey right there right there
00:15:55dang bow fishing you're gonna miss more than you hit come on fishy fishy fishy
00:16:13that's a buffalo poof first one i nailed him oh yeah we got something eating now oh yeah can i
00:16:18have
00:16:19that one yeah you have oh i can have that one come on fishy fishy fishy dude mr bruce look
00:16:27at that oh
00:16:27that's a pretty one you're kicking my butt tonight go under him oh you got him dang that's a nice
00:16:36one
00:16:36mr bruce i just thought so man what i'm gonna start showing you how to shoot the boat i think
00:16:41so
00:16:41huh beginner's luck mr bruce beginner's luck oh yeah that's beginner's luck uh-huh yeah yeah yeah yeah
00:16:48i guess i won't shoot no more i just don't want to show off he's actually a really good bow
00:16:53fisherman
00:16:53i think he had a lot of beginner's luck on his side but i think mr bruce is an experienced
00:16:58swamper
00:16:59and he got out there and just picked it up and did his thing
00:17:14that was a great shot i've never shot nothing like this isn't it fun it is fun it's such a
00:17:19good time
00:17:22i think i had a lot of beginner's luck because anna could really shoot a boat
00:17:26i think i'll probably come back here bow fishing again i had pretty much had a lot of fun here
00:17:31you got us dinner you got us dinner yeah i got enough dinner for me come on now
00:17:44as dawn approaches on a new day of gator season the landry crew arrives at duffy's to discover
00:17:52one member of their team is missing good morning morning morning hello what's this i'm hearing don
00:18:01had to leave last night yeah i didn't know about it till yesterday we got 60 70 lines out there
00:18:06wow
00:18:07you want me to try to find you some help this morning i tried to call some buddies everybody's
00:18:11working or busy i'll just go by myself well my biggest worry was getting a big gator by myself
00:18:17it's hard enough with two people trying to get in the boat much less hassle it and shoot it well
00:18:23if
00:18:24i'm late this evening you'll know the deal it's not that i'm not it's not that i'm hurt or nothing
00:18:28i'll be all right if you take me look down all right means peewee's going all right well good luck
00:18:33to
00:18:33be careful i don't like the idea of you going by yourself i always alligator hunting with a partner
00:18:39it was always my control or jacob chase don i never went by myself normally we both got our own
00:18:46tasks
00:18:46to do but by yourself i gotta do it all i gotta do everything and i got a 10 gain
00:18:52a quarter so i was
00:18:53nervous about that it's gonna be a tough day fish over in longstone bayou toy and pickle moved
00:19:14their lines to an alleged hot spot pickle learned about from a few old timers but the king of the
00:19:20swamp is skeptical this is a new spot peewee i got burnt so many times listening to other people
00:19:28been dead done that a thousand times people think that i don't want to get out my comfort zone i
00:19:35don't
00:19:35want to try nothing new and in a way she's right nine out of ten of these trips you go
00:19:41on
00:19:41it's going to be a waste of time nine out of ten but i know this area where peewee's talking
00:19:48about
00:19:48and haven't been hunted i don't believe in years but it's so far out the way
00:19:57it's your first line peewee right here this is the first one we said in your new spot your hot
00:20:03spot
00:20:05looks tight huh yes it does right peewee grab the pole this could be a good one i like it
00:20:13i like it
00:20:14looks like a good one
00:20:23oh get the gun warming you up
00:20:27mm-hmm
00:20:28mm-hmm
00:20:31whoa
00:20:33gotta wink
00:20:34uh
00:20:36whoa
00:20:37watch him
00:20:38Woohoo!
00:20:42Ooh, be rich, a big one.
00:20:45Don't go under the moat!
00:20:49Oh my goodness!
00:20:52Eeeew!
00:20:53Quiet!
00:20:57One of these days, you're gonna have to shoot him!
00:20:59Bring him up, bring him up!
00:21:10Hello!
00:21:11Woohoo!
00:21:12You saw that, dude?
00:21:14That's a nice one.
00:21:16First line in the hot spot, the new spot?
00:21:19Yeah.
00:21:19Woohoo!
00:21:26Okay.
00:21:27First line!
00:21:29Look at that!
00:21:33Ooh, she's in a barn, huh?
00:21:35Yep, that old wind is screaming.
00:21:38This leviathan is a promising sign the rumors about this new area were true.
00:21:44There's a 10 and a half, almost 11-foot alligator on the first line.
00:21:47So, wow, we off to a good start.
00:21:49I'm thinking, whoa, we're gonna load the boat down today.
00:21:52This is gonna really pay off.
00:21:54Got some faith in me, or what?
00:21:56We off to a good start.
00:21:57Let's go see what the other lines got.
00:22:15Over at the docks, to hedge his bet on Pickles' untested hunting spot, King of the Swamp Troy Landry has
00:22:23deployed his son Chase on a mission to help fill tags.
00:22:29It's alive!
00:22:31It's alive!
00:22:32My dad sends me out shooting gators in open water because he knows I'm the best shot of the family.
00:22:38This is the exact area where my dad spotted a giant.
00:22:42We'll go right here in this shade.
00:22:44Right up here.
00:22:45Got the big rifle, the treble hook, the Chattelac.
00:22:49Got a good feeling we're gonna do really well.
00:23:05Oh, look, look right there.
00:23:07One just popped up right there next to them cypress trees.
00:23:12Oh, yeah, that's a good one.
00:23:16Holy crap, that's a monster goo.
00:23:19Look at that thing.
00:23:20Shining like a diamond over there.
00:23:22A lot of people fish in this area, all in these cypress trees.
00:23:26So they get accustomed to that, and they think, well, if they're fishing, that could be a free meal.
00:23:34All right.
00:23:36All right.
00:23:42Fire in the hole, boys.
00:23:48Now don't move.
00:23:54Way off.
00:23:59Nope, just a bugger.
00:24:03Damn it.
00:24:12Damn it.
00:24:13I missed.
00:24:15The usually sharpshooting hunter has never missed this many shots in a row.
00:24:20Not so confident in my shot there.
00:24:23Something about it didn't feel right.
00:24:25It's gotta be my scope, I'm thinking.
00:24:27There's no way to tell if it's my scope that's off or if it's just the conditions.
00:24:33But when you get an opportunity at a giant alligator and something like that happens where your rifle's not shooting
00:24:40perfectly accurate, it's just frustrating.
00:24:43Is it my scope?
00:24:44Is it me?
00:24:45Is it the bow?
00:24:47When I get back to the house today, we'll see.
00:24:54We'll see.
00:24:55We'll see.
00:25:01We'll see.
00:25:03We'll see.
00:25:04Across the swamp, with his partner Don away for business, Calum Landry is on his first solo hunt.
00:25:12I gotta get my 10-gater quota.
00:25:14Let's go.
00:25:15We tried to never do solo days because alligators are dangerous.
00:25:19But one, they're so heavy once you finally get one, it's hard to do the rope to hold the gator
00:25:24and the shooter.
00:25:25Once you get that done, now you gotta load this thing.
00:25:27When you're by yourself, that's a very difficult task.
00:25:36Man, that one looks tight.
00:25:39They're moving, too.
00:25:40It must have one.
00:25:48Oh, lord.
00:25:50I'm gonna be a good one.
00:25:53It's a big one, and he is pissed.
00:26:03Oh, look how big.
00:26:06Oh, Dom's gonna be proud.
00:26:08Oh.
00:26:09Oh, look how big.
00:26:11This might be our biggest gator to see this town like this.
00:26:15Oh, look how big.
00:26:17Oh, Dom's gonna be proud.
00:26:22They might be our biggest gator to see this town like this.
00:26:22Where is heaven?
00:26:44Now I got to get this thing in the book.
00:26:56My first line, and it's heavy.
00:26:58It's a big ol' game.
00:27:00Most days, I'd be happy.
00:27:01Today, by myself, I'm not so happy.
00:27:04I mean, this is just going to be a lot of work.
00:27:06I'm about to get that head broke again.
00:27:15Whew.
00:27:20Like that way.
00:27:22Then I think I'm going to pull him up on that bank,
00:27:24and maybe try to slide him over the front deck or something.
00:27:29Right through there.
00:27:38I got an ankle up there.
00:27:39He's dragging me all along.
00:27:47All right.
00:27:52All right.
00:28:15It took everything Kalem had to load this 11-foot gator, and his day is just getting started.
00:28:22That was my first line, so I knew I had a full day of work ahead of me just to
00:28:26fill my quota.
00:28:26But I tied them and I was on my way.
00:28:30Oh, that's it.
00:28:31Nine more times.
00:28:32Let me just pull it.
00:28:47Over in Mardi Gras Pass, Joey and Kali are on the hunt for one of the most elusive gators in
00:28:53the swamp.
00:28:54We're catching some alligators.
00:28:56Yeah.
00:28:57But they're not Poseidon.
00:28:58Why'd y'all name him that?
00:28:59We named him that years ago because he has the ability to disappear, like he's got an underground canyon or
00:29:07something.
00:29:08Paul and I have been trying to get him, but Poseidon seems to be an alligator that we hadn't been
00:29:13able to catch up with.
00:29:15Keep your eyes open.
00:29:16Keep that big rifle ready.
00:29:17All right.
00:29:18This alligator is really smart.
00:29:19He's hard to get close to.
00:29:21He's a legend in the Edgar family, 15, 20 years.
00:29:24And keep your fingers crossed.
00:29:26We might get our opportunity.
00:29:31We got him, Freddy.
00:29:33Might be Poseidon.
00:29:43Give it to Danny.
00:29:45Get your rifle.
00:29:47See, he's big, Dad?
00:29:48Yeah, it's a big one.
00:29:52He's under the bull.
00:29:56God.
00:30:01Boy's head.
00:30:09Gotta shoot this thing.
00:30:21Good job.
00:30:24All right.
00:30:32Joey, we gotta come forward.
00:30:33We gotta come with him a little bit.
00:30:35Ready?
00:30:36All right.
00:30:38Catch his back leg.
00:30:39Now, come all the way around with him.
00:30:42All the way.
00:30:44All the way.
00:30:46Joey can tell this nine and a half footer isn't big enough to be Poseidon, but he's dead set on
00:30:52catching the beast today.
00:30:53Good job.
00:30:55This would mean a lot to me to catch Poseidon with Callie.
00:30:58Callie and I have a lot of fun together, but to catch an alligator of this legendary status would really
00:31:05be cool, and I'd really enjoy that.
00:31:07Poseidon better watch his ass.
00:31:10We coming for him.
00:31:26Back in Laramon Bayou.
00:31:28Put that water up.
00:31:29We're gonna do good back here.
00:31:30After a night of boat fishing, Bruce and Anna are hoping for a big day in an area they normally
00:31:37can't access.
00:31:39I know we're gonna have a good day back here.
00:31:41This run looks good.
00:31:42Hold on.
00:31:43I think we can get in here with no problem.
00:31:46Water's still up.
00:31:47We're gonna try to get way back here in the back where I got these lines set and see what
00:31:50we do.
00:31:57See anything?
00:31:58Oh!
00:31:59There it is!
00:32:00Lies down!
00:32:01It's wrapped around the tree!
00:32:07Get it!
00:32:07Get it!
00:32:08Oh!
00:32:09That's a big gator!
00:32:11Get the gun!
00:32:12Get the gun!
00:32:13Hang on.
00:32:14I'm coming.
00:32:15I'm coming!
00:32:19Let him pull you over.
00:32:20This thing's big!
00:32:24Whoa!
00:32:25Be careful.
00:32:25I'm gonna let him pull you in.
00:32:29Get him up!
00:32:30Get him up!
00:32:31Get him up!
00:32:34Whoa!
00:32:44Whoa!
00:32:45Look how big he is!
00:32:46I knew they had some big ones.
00:32:48Whoa!
00:32:50You're ready.
00:32:51I'm ready.
00:32:52He's coming.
00:32:54Whoa!
00:32:54Watch him.
00:32:55Right now.
00:32:56I wasn't ready.
00:32:58Get him up!
00:32:59Get him up!
00:32:59There he is!
00:33:02That's a big gator.
00:33:03Come on, buddy!
00:33:04Watch him!
00:33:05I've still got him!
00:33:06I've still got him!
00:33:08Get him up!
00:33:08Get him up!
00:33:10He's up!
00:33:10He's up!
00:33:10He's up!
00:33:11He's coming!
00:33:13Good shot!
00:33:13Good shot!
00:33:15Good shot!
00:33:21Busted him!
00:33:23Whoo!
00:33:24They got some big ol' gators back here!
00:33:27I told you, if we got back here, I knew it was going to be good!
00:33:29Good shot!
00:33:30Whoo!
00:33:31If that sucker was pulling me around, I thought I was going in!
00:33:34Okay.
00:33:35Pull him up.
00:33:35All right.
00:33:35Ready?
00:33:36Two, three, go!
00:33:37All right.
00:33:38Just a little extra step I like to take.
00:33:42Oh, God.
00:33:44You want me to try to get?
00:33:45Yeah.
00:33:46I'm going to pick this up and you get that hook on there.
00:33:48Huh!
00:33:49Oh!
00:33:53Got it?
00:33:54Yep.
00:33:54Okay.
00:33:55Go ahead and try one.
00:33:58This 12-footer proves there's more than just fish in this high-water honey hole.
00:34:03All right.
00:34:04Ready?
00:34:05Three, go!
00:34:06Well, we get back here on the first line, we got a big in here.
00:34:10I'm talking about big.
00:34:11So, uh, I think it's going to pay off back here.
00:34:15I can't wait to keep catching.
00:34:17You've got to go where people don't go.
00:34:18Right.
00:34:33Back in Longstone Bayou, after a strong start in Pickle's new hunting spot, they've gone
00:34:40two hours without catching another gator, and the king of the swamp is growing concerned.
00:34:46Nothing?
00:34:47Nothing.
00:34:48Chicken hanging.
00:34:49Well, we started out good the first few lines.
00:34:52We had big ones now.
00:34:54Looks like they're getting cold on us.
00:34:56Mm-mm.
00:34:57You never know.
00:34:58Yeah.
00:34:59The last few lines might have a gate on every line.
00:35:02Yeah.
00:35:03We started running lines, and there's nothing, and there's nothing.
00:35:07All afternoon, it's not paying off.
00:35:10And I'm starting to wonder whether it really was coming over here.
00:35:15Oh, we got this.
00:35:16Oh.
00:35:17Still hanging, huh?
00:35:18Yeah.
00:35:20Man, the last dozen of the lines didn't have nothing.
00:35:22I don't know.
00:35:23Damn.
00:35:25The good of this started out, it turned to crap real quick.
00:35:30It's frustrating.
00:35:33We were doing so good, and now the next couple of lines just turn up empty, and then, you
00:35:38know, a small alligator, which is fine, and it's a tag, but we still got half of our lines
00:35:43to run.
00:35:44Let's see how we do.
00:35:47You see something?
00:35:49Yeah, there's a line in the water.
00:35:50It don't look like anything, though.
00:35:51It looks limp.
00:35:53Mm-mm.
00:35:54I knew better than to come try new places.
00:35:57I hear people would say all the time, oh, I saw an alligator fishing the other day
00:36:01was bigger than my boat.
00:36:02Yeah, right.
00:36:03What you got, a five-foot boat?
00:36:05Right.
00:36:05People exaggerate.
00:36:06You get excited when you see alligators.
00:36:08You can't go about what people tell you.
00:36:11No, I'm learning that the hard way.
00:36:14It is a lot of trouble to convince him to go to a new area, and I see him getting
00:36:18a
00:36:18little worried.
00:36:19I can see it on his face, the way he's talking.
00:36:22But we're trying a new area, and it's always a gamble.
00:36:25You get what you get.
00:36:27We've still got a few lines left.
00:36:28We've still got a dozen lines.
00:36:30Give it a message yet to come.
00:36:45Over in Pierre Park, Calum Landry is rushing to run lines and meet his ten-gator quota
00:36:52without the help of his captain and navigator.
00:36:56Man, it's so pretty like you would think there'd be a good gator back here.
00:37:00It sounds very important right there.
00:37:02Don gave me a ten-gator quota, so that put a little bit more pressure on me.
00:37:06But here's my chance.
00:37:08I can prove myself, I can get it done.
00:37:10So now I gotta go do more work by myself trying to figure out how to get my ten-gator.
00:37:17What the hell?
00:37:22A dead end?
00:37:24It shouldn't be a dead end.
00:37:32God.
00:37:33I could have sworn I knew where I was at.
00:37:35Uh-uh.
00:37:36This was the valley that we've been taking.
00:37:39I could not let Don find out that I did this.
00:37:41I always alligator hunting with a partner.
00:37:44I'm normally not paying attention to where we put the lines at.
00:37:46I'm normally dealing with beating hooks or figuring out other stuff going on in the boat.
00:37:51I'm not really paying attention to where we're even going.
00:38:00I don't remember seeing all these calves even.
00:38:03What's going on?
00:38:05What's up, my man?
00:38:06Not too much, bro.
00:38:07You doing all right today?
00:38:08Just going.
00:38:09Enjoying that nice weather.
00:38:10Yeah, it's beautiful today.
00:38:12Oh, yeah.
00:38:13Bro, I'm out here alligator hunting and I got turned around.
00:38:16Off of the main bayou, they got a little island and then a little bit of Cypress Street right next
00:38:21to it.
00:38:21I set my line on it.
00:38:22You don't happen to know where it's at.
00:38:23Man, bro, about a mile and a half, what you did, you took a left or you took a right?
00:38:27I took a left.
00:38:28Go back, mile and a half, go the opposite way.
00:38:31Okay, well, I definitely appreciate it.
00:38:33Man, y'all have fun out there.
00:38:34Yep, thank you very much.
00:38:35All right, good luck.
00:38:36Nice meeting you, by the way.
00:38:38Nice meeting you also, man.
00:38:39Calum lost valuable time.
00:38:42And with daylight fading fast, he still needs to catch six gators to hit his quota.
00:38:48Me getting lost, that pushed me back like an hour.
00:38:50So that put a little bit more pressure on me.
00:38:52So it's going to be a job.
00:38:54No, I don't think I'm going to make it.
00:38:56I don't think I'm going to get my 10 gators to that.
00:38:57I don't think I'm going to get my 10 gators to catch six gators to catch six gators.
00:39:08I don't think I'm going to get my 10 gators to catch six gators.
00:39:12Across the swamp...
00:39:14Well, let's put this baby to the test.
00:39:17Chase made the risky decision to return home and try to fix his rifle, burning up valuable time before continuing
00:39:25his hunt.
00:39:27What's off?
00:39:27Is it my scope?
00:39:28Is it me?
00:39:29Is it the boat and the wind and waves?
00:39:33So I'm going to shoot my rifle and see whether it's on or off.
00:39:37We'll go from there.
00:39:46That one's low.
00:39:49I gotta come up about two clicks.
00:39:59Nah, I went two clicks up and it went to the right of where I just shot before.
00:40:06That don't make no sense.
00:40:12I think I just shot the same hole.
00:40:15If you can put two shots in the same hole, it ain't the shooter.
00:40:19It's definitely the scope.
00:40:22I've been having this scope quite a few years on my gun.
00:40:25It's time to change it.
00:40:28Say hello to my little friend.
00:40:31Got a new scope.
00:40:33And I'm already liking this a whole lot more.
00:40:37It feels a lot better.
00:40:38It looks a lot better to me.
00:40:43Got my mounts adjusted right.
00:40:45We're going to get it dialed in here in just a second.
00:40:48And once that's done, there won't be any excuses as to not putting a bunch of alligators in the boat.
00:41:00I don't know.
00:41:04I'm going to shoot again.
00:41:08With the scope dialed in, Chase will have to hustle to make up for lost time.
00:41:13We got the new scope on the rifle.
00:41:16I got it driving tacks at 75, 80 yards.
00:41:20Now we're good to go.
00:41:22That should do it.
00:41:25Load the boat up.
00:41:27Here we go.
00:41:40Back in Mardi Gras Pass.
00:41:43Nobody knows the swamp like the Edgars.
00:41:46But Poseidon seems to be an alligator that we hadn't been able to catch up with.
00:41:51Joey and Callie are on the hunt for an old giant that's eluded the Edgar family for years.
00:41:58But guess what?
00:42:00He messing with a father and daughter team.
00:42:02We hungry.
00:42:03Yup.
00:42:05And we gonna lean on him.
00:42:06And we'll lean on him.
00:42:07Believe that.
00:42:08Believe that.
00:42:09There's nobody that knows this swamp like the Edgars.
00:42:12For this alligator to elude the Edgar family for 15 or 20 years, for this long,
00:42:18he's a legend in our books and we out for him.
00:42:32Look.
00:42:33Look.
00:42:33Look.
00:42:33Look.
00:42:34Right here.
00:42:34Look.
00:42:34Right here.
00:42:37Look.
00:42:39Right here.
00:42:45Oh, you broke the pole.
00:42:46Missed him.
00:42:48Tony, come see.
00:42:50The line's completely gone.
00:42:52He broke the branch.
00:42:53Look where he got on the bank.
00:42:56Ain't no small alligator did that.
00:42:59Look where he passed.
00:43:01Oh, Dad.
00:43:01He broke that tree.
00:43:03And he ripped one off the ground.
00:43:04It's like a whale getting on the bank.
00:43:06Mm-hmm.
00:43:08He mashed it all up.
00:43:10Yeah, he ripped the tree off the ground, Dad.
00:43:12Oh, he's a big alligator.
00:43:14He's a giant.
00:43:16We're gonna get him.
00:43:18We're gonna get him.
00:43:19Give me a little push.
00:43:20Joey knows this is the work of their elusive target, Poseidon.
00:43:26Even Poseidon a mess up.
00:43:28The need to feed.
00:43:31This alligator, he's evidently pulling the line and the branch.
00:43:36Cal and I, we're still looking and hopefully we can get him.
00:43:39Sometimes you get slow times during the day and then all of a sudden you catch four or five in
00:43:44a row.
00:43:44We might kill Poseidon going up the bayou.
00:43:47Anything can happen.
00:43:49You just gotta be ready.
00:44:04Back in the Lairman Bayou.
00:44:06Mr. Bruce, we got a boatload of gators today.
00:44:08I know we do.
00:44:09Look at them.
00:44:09Bruce!
00:44:11Bruce and Anna's high water honey hole is paying off with nine gators in the boat and one line to
00:44:17go.
00:44:19That's what I'm talking about.
00:44:20That area paid off.
00:44:21I told you if we got back here, I knew we'd get some gators.
00:44:23Look at them.
00:44:24I know.
00:44:25What a day.
00:44:26Mr. Bruce and I are filling up the boat right and left and the slough still looks good.
00:44:31The water's high.
00:44:33Mr. Bruce is right.
00:44:34This is a great spot.
00:44:48Mr. Bruce is straight out.
00:44:55Get him.
00:44:56Get him.
00:44:56Get him.
00:44:56Get him.
00:44:56Be careful.
00:44:57Get the gun.
00:44:58I'm coming.
00:45:00I got him.
00:45:02Where you at?
00:45:03Get him over here.
00:45:10Get him.
00:45:11Yeah.
00:45:12Get him.
00:45:13Open him over here.
00:45:17Get him.
00:45:21Get him.
00:45:22Go, get him.
00:45:22Get him.
00:45:23Try him.
00:45:25I got him.
00:45:27Go, get him.
00:45:28No.
00:45:33Careful.
00:45:36I got him, I got him, I got him.
00:45:38I didn't let go of this line.
00:45:39Don't.
00:45:52Woo-hoo!
00:45:54We're good.
00:45:57Time to get her down.
00:45:58It's looking real good.
00:45:59We got a pile of gators now.
00:46:02This brood pushes their gator count into double digits.
00:46:05And for Bruce, it's a reminder that when you keep your eyes open for new opportunities,
00:46:10the swamp will provide.
00:46:13Mmm.
00:46:14You never know what's going to happen in the swamp.
00:46:16You just got to be prepared to do whatever you got to do.
00:46:20You know, especially with this high water, low water, you can't never tell what's going
00:46:24to happen.
00:46:24I told you, we got back here with the catch gators.
00:46:27That is the spot for sure.
00:46:30Woo!
00:46:30Hey, look.
00:46:33That's a load down.
00:46:34God dang, Mr. Bruce.
00:46:36I know.
00:46:37We did it.
00:46:38I know.
00:46:38We got a lot of gators in here.
00:46:39Cover them up.
00:46:41Woo!
00:46:57Over on Lake Verrett, after swapping out his scope, Chase is back on open water looking
00:47:04to make up for lost time.
00:47:08You know, the clock is ticking.
00:47:09I don't have too long before it'll start getting dark out here, so we got to do something.
00:47:14You know, it's now or never pretty much.
00:47:23There he is.
00:47:30Yep.
00:47:30He's swimming out from that log that's lit up by the storm.
00:47:33Yep.
00:47:41Right there.
00:47:47Oh, he's shining like a diamond over there.
00:47:50I don't know.
00:48:03That wouldn't hit.
00:48:06Seems like I hit him.
00:48:07I don't know.
00:48:09We'll see.
00:48:11Oh, yeah, I got him.
00:48:14Yeah, I got him.
00:48:24Looked like I went right in through his eyes.
00:48:28We're just getting started.
00:48:29We just got in here and we already got a nine-footer coming in the boat.
00:48:35This beast gets his hunt going, but Chase needs to hustle to salvage his day.
00:48:41We got one alligator in the boat.
00:48:44You know, nothing to really brag about, but we're not goose egging either.
00:48:48So I'll take it.
00:48:51That's what I'm talking about.
00:48:55Got him in the boat, baby.
00:48:57We're just getting started.
00:49:17Back in Pierre Part, Calum Landry has reeled in nine gators this afternoon.
00:49:23And despite his navigational setback earlier, he's just one gator short of hitting his target.
00:49:30Hopefully I can make it.
00:49:32I only got a couple lines left, and I only got nine gators in the boat.
00:49:37Hopefully I can have one more.
00:49:39Big or small, it don't matter.
00:49:41I'll take whatever.
00:49:42I just need 10 gators.
00:49:54Oh, I see that line took it.
00:49:58Looks like it'd be a goat.
00:50:00Water's all muddy.
00:50:07Oh, my.
00:50:23Oh, man.
00:50:33Oh
00:50:35Is it terrible
00:51:04I
00:51:05Gotta get you in the boat
00:51:07This Leviathan hits Calum's quota, but loading it'll take every last ounce of his strength
00:51:21I
00:51:21I gave myself a atavar because I proved myself to everybody I could do it by myself
00:51:26I did everything safely. I didn't get hurt and most importantly I had my 10-year
00:51:33Our story to tell dog
00:51:34And believe me the hell is nice
00:51:37here
00:51:46As daylight fades on Lake Verrett since fixing his scope chase has been on a tear with five beasts stacked
00:51:54up
00:51:55And he's not done yet. We are gonna go in the cypress trees in the edge of the lake
00:52:01Where I know they got a big big alligator hanging out and put a tag on it
00:52:07My preferred method of hunting alligator is by far using the big rifle for a simple fact that
00:52:14The big giant alligators that always get away no matter what kind of hook or what kind of rope you
00:52:20use
00:52:21Without a big rifle chances are you never gonna get them
00:52:39Oh
00:52:42Is that him back now see you oh
00:52:47Look at him look at him on there right between the cypress trees
00:53:23He might be a lot
00:53:24He might have elaborate
00:53:37What I'm talking about
00:53:43Oh big boy
00:53:44today
00:54:04that's a giant buddy goodness that's why i love using that rifle
00:54:11might make for a long day when you don't get anything
00:54:14but when you do is roller coaster this 12-foot monster is big enough to redeem chase's hunt
00:54:23i'm full of pride when i shoot a big alligator like this if you like to hunt and hunt alligators
00:54:28that's what you do it for this is this is one of those that are a life for a lifetime
00:54:36i love it when the plan comes together
00:54:51over in longstone bayou with only seven gators in the boat pickles gamble on a new area hasn't
00:55:00panned out but they're hoping to end strong on their final line
00:55:13yeah we're about to our last lawn and i'm a little disappointed we're not catching as many
00:55:19alligators as we should be catching and he's just kind of you know of course i told you
00:55:25this old man back there shaking his fist at me but anything can happen at any moment maybe this
00:55:30could pay off i see a tight line oh we got a tree shaker oh yeah oh yeah my man
00:55:39hooked up
00:55:40i see a crime scene i don't know what's going on though
00:55:43oh my goodness
00:55:55get your gun
00:55:59oh watch him baby watch him
00:56:00oh my god
00:56:02oh bring him up
00:56:11bring him up little girl
00:56:13come on you
00:56:14oh watch him watch him
00:56:16come on come on
00:56:18oh hold up
00:56:19oh my
00:56:21oh
00:56:23oh
00:56:24oh
00:56:24shoot that trash
00:56:31bring him up
00:56:43well
00:56:44at least the last line caught something
00:56:46i don't think it's worth coming back to though
00:56:49oh no
00:56:50i'm glad we came we got it out the way but we ain't coming back
00:56:55this nine footer is a good end to the day but the hunters aren't sold on this new hunting ground
00:57:01the last few lines paid off thank god because if not it would have been a waste it did
00:57:08we can't afford to waste any time i was expecting to come back and get at least 10 good ones
00:57:13you know
00:57:14i will
00:57:15at least we got one good one
00:57:29over in mardi gras pass
00:57:32tootie keep your rifle ready in your eyes or
00:57:34i will
00:57:35hunters joey and callie are dead set on finding a legendary gator that has eluded the edgar family for years
00:57:44that last line that we just run you seen how that big branch was broken and how much damage
00:57:48they had around the line
00:57:49we tore up
00:57:50that was poseidon
00:57:52yeah
00:57:53katlyn and i we could try to kill this alligator
00:57:55we have a good average going on at mardi gras pass but at the same time
00:57:59we need to kill him because he's running lines ahead of us
00:58:02and he can take money out of our pockets
00:58:13pretty look he's bubbling right there
00:58:28Get down low.
00:58:33Watch it, watch it, watch it.
00:58:39Daddy!
00:58:40Daddy!
00:58:43Daddy!
00:58:44Daddy!
00:58:44Daddy!
00:58:44Tell her talkie.
00:58:58He was pulling hard.
00:59:00I like that hook.
00:59:01I thought I was gonna go in the water, that's why I kept screaming.
00:59:05That's the biggest one you ever hooked?
00:59:07Yeah.
00:59:08At 12 feet long, Joey knows they finally caught their monster after more than a decade of pursuit.
00:59:16Oh, that's him, Teddy.
00:59:19It felt really good that I got Poseidon because for 15 or 20 years, Dad said that they couldn't
00:59:24get him. He was a smart alligator. You know, he was always wise. Dad said,
00:59:29wise alligators are the big bulls of the swamp.
00:59:31Good job, Daddy. That's good work. That's real good work.
00:59:38Poseidon thought he was smart, but he wasn't smart enough, could he?
00:59:41Nope. He might have outsmarted you and Puffalo.
00:59:44He didn't outsmart you, huh? Nope.
00:59:47That's what I'm talking about.
01:00:00After a long day and night of hunting...
01:00:03Boy, I ain't had these in the wall.
01:00:04I'm excited. This is going to be awesome.
01:00:07Bruce and Anna celebrate with a traditional swamp meal made from their bow fish and catch.
01:00:13I'm going to dump this in here, kind of mix it in. I ground it up best I could, you
01:00:20know.
01:00:20I'm ready to eat a long day on the water. I'm starving.
01:00:24We got these big fish down here we call alligators. They get up seven foot long. They're huge.
01:00:30Me and Anna shot a few up, so what we're going to do, we're going to skin them up and
01:00:33grind these up.
01:00:35I season them up good, roll them in fish fry and fry them, and I'll make garballs.
01:00:39Oh my goodness, they're good.
01:00:41How are they looking?
01:00:42They're starting to look good.
01:00:43I think they're about ready. They're all floating pretty good, huh?
01:00:46I'm ready to eat.
01:00:47Hey, I had fun last night.
01:00:49Good. I'm glad you like boat fishing.
01:00:51Yeah, but we're going to do it when it ain't gator season.
01:00:54Because I can't stay out all night, 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning, and then next day catch
01:01:00gators all day.
01:01:02Come on now.
01:01:02I can't hang them.
01:01:04All right.
01:01:05Back in the day I could, but I'm done with that.
01:01:07Fine. After gator season, we're going to go again.
01:01:09Okay.
01:01:09Maybe next time we'll get us some redfish too.
01:01:11Yeah, that'd be nice.
01:01:13For Anna, cooking up this gar isn't just a reward for a successful hunt.
01:01:18It's a reminder of the culture and tradition she loves.
01:01:23We grew up eating gar in South Louisiana.
01:01:25It's a native fish, but man, they're good eating.
01:01:28They're a great fish to eat.
01:01:29We love to make gar balls, so me and Mr. Bruce, when we got those, he looked at me and
01:01:33he said,
01:01:33I think I could do this bow fishing thing again.
01:01:37All right.
01:01:38We did it.
01:01:39Hey.
01:01:42Hmm.
01:01:43That's really good.
01:01:44It's good.
01:01:45I wish Mike could deliver them and smoke to it.
01:01:48Me too.
01:01:49Yeah.
01:01:50Hmm.
01:01:50Hmm.
01:01:51Hmm.
01:01:51Hmm.
01:01:53Hmm.
