00:01Australians have always loved the beach so many of us are now making the move to
00:06our beautiful coastline. Our beachfront dreamers want crashing waves and salty sea air so grab
00:16your sunscreen and join us on the hunt for the ultimate beach house. It's been a hard day hunting.
00:31If there was ever such a thing as work-life balance I would have to say that living by
00:35the ocean is going to contribute to that positively. Today we're on the hunt for Min and Henry,
00:41their three beautiful daughters and we've landed in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. Let's see what
00:46we can find. Let's go shopping. We are Vietnamese and our the Chinese know we live like the big
00:56family together three generations. I got three little kids all of them under seven years old.
01:02I got my husband I got my mother-in-law we live together yeah my mom take care of the
01:09kid and me
01:09and my husband go to work. We like the sea we like the sand and we like the sun I
01:16mean my husband he
01:17like running in the morning time he like running along the beach and in the afternoon we can bring
01:23the kid with the dog that's why we're looking for the house around the beach. My kids they said like
01:31they they wish they have the house next to the beach so we try to find the house to make
01:39their dream come true.
01:42With a budget around five million let's see if we can find the perfect home for Henry,
01:47Min and their three beautiful girls.

02:20Henry, Min, my mission today is to find you the perfect family home as close to the beach as I
02:27possibly can. You've got three daughters correct? Yep. What did they ask for in a new home? Well um they
02:33like swimming um they like um sand they like the sun so we're looking for some of the house near
02:41to the
02:41beach. Do they all need their own bedroom? Yes. Yes absolutely okay. At least we need a four bedroom
02:47for people. Okay. Are you happy to do a little bit of work or would you like this to be
02:51a finished
02:52property? Um I can do some a little bit the renovation yes to match with our the um your personal

03:00Yeah personal style yes yes something like that yes. Well here we are house number one yep in Coogee we're
03:06about 500 meters to the beach from here it's a California bungalow it has undergone some renovations
03:12buildings but the original home is about a hundred years old and has a lot of traditional character.

03:26The entrance is quite small. It's quite small and um too many um too many cheese but uh we do
03:33a little bit
03:33gardening in the front so make it more clean when we get inside. And now we move through to the
03:47new
03:47renovation new part of the home.
03:52So the original section of the home had the timber floorboards of course all the detailing on the ceiling.
03:59The extension begins here and they've taken a more of a mediterranean feel with the terracotta flooring.
04:06I'm not really like the that top. Okay. Yeah a bit a little bit um 80s. Yeah 50s yeah something

04:44They have a lot of natural light. The really big window. It's quite a pretty space here in the middle
04:49of the home and allows lots of light to come in through that courtyard.

05:10wanted. They have it set up as as the dining room. Yep. Wow. To get the beautiful view here.

05:29I think this is where a family would spend so much time in this space here. But I think this

05:35feels like a little greenhouse. Like a sunroom. Yeah. I thought this house is quite small. The only bedroom and
05:42living room. But when we get in here that's a really big surprise. Yeah. That's a big kitchen.
05:54I'll head out there and I'll wait for you. But please have a look at the bedrooms and of course
05:58the primary suite which is down there with an ensuite as well.

08:59kids to play but all taking in that view from the second level quite an elegant entry this one this
09:04house has a big balcony i think more than 30 square meters yeah me and my husband have to can

09:29of detail into this with the coffered ceiling that we have here the parquetry flooring adds a lovely
09:35uh very traditional detailing for for a modern home so they also have three girls they built this house
09:49for their family with the three girls so i think you'll find everything that you need i really like
09:55that kitchen it's beautiful with the smoke mural on slapback and the natural stone you'd have all three

15:58but I wanted to chat with a local about what it's like to be here all year round.

16:23It's just absolutely beautiful down here on the beach.
16:25It's really popular with the surfers.
16:27There's usually 100 or 150 surfers out there on a weekend or on a Saturday or a Sunday.
16:31It's pretty impressive.
16:32Tell me a little about the business that you guys run here.
16:34We're open seven days a week for breakfast and lunch.
16:37We do stay open the weekends later.
16:39We do do cocktails here in the afternoons when it's a nice day in the afternoon,
16:43which is really nice to sit out here in the open air, sun's shining,
16:46go for a swim, come back, have a cocktail.
16:48It's beautiful.
16:50So what's changed around these parts since you came here 23 years ago?
16:54Oh, look, there's free parking, which is great.
16:57Free parking?
16:57I know.
16:58Unheard of, right?
16:59I couldn't believe it.
16:59Anywhere.
17:00Nowhere else is there's free parking, but don't tell the council that, please.
17:03There's a kids' playground now, which is amazing, so it's very kid-friendly.
17:07First out of every month, there's markets down here as well.
17:10So it just makes it a community and that.

17:13You've got some pretty fancy neighbours just up the coastline here.

17:17Why would you pick Marooba over any of those?
17:19It's just the people.
17:21It's the people that come here.
17:23And it's not as well known, so, you know, you don't get a huge crowd here.
17:28But it's a beautiful spot.

18:15Well, let's talk through the houses that we saw.
18:17House number one was there.
18:18Coogee, very close to the beach there.
18:21That sort of traditional California bungalow up the front.
18:23Lots of traditional features, lots of character.
18:26And then that sort of Mediterranean maze that weaved up to the fairy garden at the top.
18:34My girls, they like the fairy tale backyard, but the stay is not really good for my mom.

18:40And we have to do a lot of the renovation for that one.

18:48Big modern home.
18:50It had the pool and it had that single level living with all the bedrooms upstairs, making
18:56it more functional, I suppose, for a family.
18:58It has a perfect house for our family with the three kids.
19:02But we still need to do a lot of the job for in the big balcony.
19:07We do, we need to do some of the plan in the balcony.

19:11So we're down to house number three, which is just around the corner here from Maroeba Beach.

19:24So have you decided on any of the homes for your family?
19:28So because number three, that's a duplicate side, that's the only one reason we don't
19:34choose that one.
19:35But we found the lane, we're going to build up our dream homes.
19:39We got a lot of ideas from the own house after the tour, yeah?

19:48Well, that is very, very exciting.
19:50And it has to be perfect.
19:52If this is your forever home, you need to have everything that you want.
19:55Without having to do the work, you can tick things off the list and point to the builders
