00:00So I paid $5,500 for this at a clearing sale. It's probably got $20,000 worth of undercarriage put
00:05on it.
00:06The double disc seed is a retrofit to a 511, so this was a 24 run.
00:13People who had it had converted it back to an 18 run, so 9 inch spacing instead of 6 inch
00:18spacing.
00:18They put the double disc system underneath it, which is a Paul Rowan.
00:22The new ones are slightly different, but they do the same thing.
00:25So it's just got two discs.
00:26I'm waiting on a new set of discs to go on it, because they're pretty much worn out,
00:30but they're supposed to be a serrated pulter disc that goes a little bit in front of a straight-glated
00:35disc.
00:37The serrated disc cuts the trash, and then both of them just open up.
00:41Seed drops in. He's now got the seed boot in the front, not the back,
00:45because the ones at the back here, if you're in wetter sort of soil,
00:50can flick a bit of mud up into the seed boot, the seed shoot, and block it.
00:54You've just got to keep an eye on that.
00:55He's now got them in the front, so the discs are turning down, not turning up,
00:59where the seed's falling.
01:01I've just set up the dripper system to run exactly where the boots are.
01:08So I've just carried two drums.
01:09It's one drum per box full of seed at the moment.
01:12I've just been out sowing oats and ryegrass,
01:15jumped straight on the tractor as soon as we had run.
01:16As soon as Harvey and I came up with the shovel and dug a hole,
01:18and the moisture had started to go down, sort of 20, 30 centimetres.
01:21We're like, right, let's get on.
01:22Couldn't wait for fertiliser.
01:24I think just straight seed.
01:25Every two or three years, I'll harvest my own ryegrass seed if I can.
01:28So I had a couple of tonne of ryegrass.
01:30It's actually blended off the henna.
01:32There was ryegrass pasture with a bit of oats left in it.
01:36Harvested that, so it's already pre-mixed.
01:38I didn't have to stuff around.
01:39Sort the seed, it was ready to go.
01:41So all I do is, when I fill it up, I just swap the drums over.
01:47It's just a $100 stainless steel pressure,
01:5112 volt pressure pump from Bunnings.
01:53And then, yeah, a bit of garden hose.
01:56In-line filter.
01:57Last year I was having a little bit of trouble with sediment,
01:59blocking the little pressure drippers.
02:03And then if you let, sometimes if you let the biological product sit
02:07for too long, it can grow a bit of algae in it.
02:08And that blocks the filters as well.
02:11So in-line filter, easy to clean.
02:13A return system.
02:14If I don't have the return system,
02:16the pump sort of really tries to stall,
02:18because it's not putting out as much as,
02:20so you just regulate the pump.
02:23Like you want pressure, but you don't want too much pressure.
02:25This worked really well.
02:26So with the Nutrisoil stuff I've been putting out at the moment,
02:31just five litres of Nutrisoil,
02:33and then fill the drum up with water after that.
02:36And that works out to be calibrated to the right dose.
02:41Okay, so let's get started.
02:42Let's take a look at this.
02:43Let's take a look.
02:44Let's take a look at this.
