00:00Hi I'm Carol Mudford and I'm a nominee for the Australian Agriculture Awards.
00:05Shedway is a charity for suicide prevention and mental fitness in the shearing sheds across
00:10Australia. Our goals are to make it normal to talk about mental health in the sheds and
00:16sharing the skills to do so. We hold stalls and run workshops and trainings for people from the
00:21shearing industry across Australia. In October 2023 I stopped shearing full-time and I went to
00:28work as a mental health nurse in a suicide prevention program. When I interviewed for
00:33that job I said that I had a dream or an idea that I'd like to one day do something
00:38for mental
00:39health in the shearing sheds. What happened is that within three weeks of me starting that job
00:44we lost three shearers to suicide across Australia. So with one foot in both worlds if you will of
00:52mental health care and the shearing sheds still I started Shedway as a simple Facebook page and
00:58also by talking to people in the industry I've got this idea what do you think and the response
01:04and community support still is and always has been 100% positive support. It's a great honour and
01:10privilege and it's also great to see well-being and safety recognised in these awards and we're really
01:17proud of our shearing industry for standing up and speaking out about suicide prevention.
