00:00Let's go to the Make It Right, Call Cow, Right hotline.
00:02We got him.
00:02Ladies and gentlemen, new Browns linebacker Quincy Williams joins us on the show.
00:07Quincy, thanks for joining us.
00:09What's good?
00:10What's good, man?
00:11Talk to me.
00:11Don't lie to me.
00:13It's wonderful to talk to you.
00:15Why does everybody say wonderful?
00:17There's nothing bad anybody has said about you this entire process.
00:21Last year, we talked about you.
00:23This year, we're talking about you now that you're with the Cleveland Browns.
00:26Everybody has said wonderful, great things about you.
00:28Why?
00:31I'm just being a good person, man, just living life.
00:34I don't know, man.
00:36So I just live life.
00:38Keep it eight more than 92.
00:39That's all I can say, man.
00:41Keep what?
00:43Keep it more than 92.
00:44Oh, my God.
00:44Eight more than 92.
00:46You got to do a little math.
00:48Got to do a little math.
00:49I'm not good at math.
00:50Quincy, we tried to do science earlier.
00:53We couldn't figure out whether our lives were in jeopardy yesterday with the boom.
00:56Were you around?
00:57Are you in Northeast Ohio?
00:58Did you hear that noise go off?
01:00No, I didn't.
01:01But I did see some news on the way.
01:04I'm in Miami right now.
01:06Did you hear anything in Miami about the meteor going?
01:09Did you hear when the meteor hit?
01:11Did you hear anything?
01:11People said they heard it all up and down the East Coast.
01:14No, I didn't.
01:15I didn't.
01:28I didn't.
01:29It hardens you.
01:29Trust me.
01:30Over time, it hardens you.
01:32It just takes a little getting used to it.
01:33He played in New York.
01:34It's pretty cold in New York.
01:35I was just in New York.
01:36You feel me?
01:36I was in New York.
01:37But during the offseason, I like to get that sun in, that vitamin D.
01:42What led you to the Cleveland Browns over the offseason, Quincy?
01:47My boy, Rudy.
01:52Oh, did we drop?
01:53Did we have a good?
01:54I've been keeping my eyes on there.
01:58Oh, we have a misconnection.
02:00Are you there?
02:01We lost you for a second.
02:02Are you there, Quincy?
02:04Yeah, I'm here.
02:05I'm here.
02:05Okay.
02:05I'm sorry.
02:06What led you to the Browns?
02:09Oh, man.
02:10My defensive coordinator, I mean, yeah, the defensive coordinator, Rudy,
02:14a good friend of mine, and then also my linebacker coach when I came into the
02:18league at two teams, and then on top of that, just here, a top five defense,
02:23man, just want to be a part of that.
02:25For you, what do you think you add to this defense?
02:28You just mentioned a top five defense, but they wanted you.
02:32What do you add to this group?
02:36Number one, pride.
02:38That's the biggest thing.
02:40The celebration, the atmosphere, the energy of the game, and then on top of that,
02:44the leadership.
02:46I know we got my boy, rookie of the year, defensive rookie of the year.
02:51I'm excited about that, so I get to play next to him and also learn from him and then
02:55also teach him a few things because he picked up on things early in the league, so I'm excited
03:01about that.
03:02Boy, you used a term to describe the defensive coordinator.
03:08You called him your friend.
03:11There's a lot of players that do not consider their coaches or whether it's their position
03:16coaches or coordinators their friend.
03:19Could you open up about that bond, how that happens and how that works, that dynamic?
03:25When I first met him, he asked me what I wanted.
03:27You know, it's kind of crazy.
03:29Most of the time you hear a coach, he tell you what he wants from you, and I paid you
03:33to
03:33come here.
03:34But when I first met Rudy, he asked me what I wanted out of this game.
03:37What did I want from the team?
03:39And I told him I wanted to be all pro.
03:41I told him I wanted to be the best linebacker in the league.
03:43So he said, all right now, so everything I do moving forward, everything I tell you, that's
03:49in mind.
03:49So don't get mad at me or don't lash out at me because you told me what you want.
03:55So everything I tell you moving forward is going to be to get to that goal.
03:58And then in 2023, I got the all pro nod.
04:03So that was basically me trusting him because he said it and I got the all pro nod.
04:07So then when he called me Monday and said the same thing, like, yo, do you trust me?
04:12You want to go all pro again?
04:13And I said, yeah.
04:14So it was just a trust.
04:16So I came to the browser with him.
04:18I mean, the fact that he had even had a chance to mention you early on, you normally don't
04:23see that, you know, through an NFL offseason when all these coaches, all these decision makers,
04:29they don't like to reveal too much.
04:31And I don't know if you're in on the betting markets or anything like that, but once your
04:34name got mentioned by the new defensive coordinator, it's like, all right, maybe there's a good
04:39chance he actually ends up here.
04:40And here you are.
04:43No, no, I ain't no bed, man.
04:45I believe in myself.
04:46I bet on myself if anything.
04:50Quincy, what can you tell us?
04:51Like, not a lot of fans know Mike Rutenberg outside of his introductory press conference.
04:55Jim Schwartz was a very popular figure here.
04:58He might have a bit of an uphill battle with the fan base.
05:01Can you tell us why we should trust Mike Rutenberg as fans?
05:08I know things you'll have to see.
05:09Number one, I mean, the talk is talk, bro, but don't nobody really care about it when
05:14they, until the ball gets kicked off anyway.
05:16So, I mean, we can talk all we want, but I can tell you right now, and I trust him.
05:21And you can watch my game.
05:22He's the reason why my game also has been taken off, too, though.
05:25You can just see the progress from when I first got into the league, and I didn't play
05:29linebacker at all until I got to the NFL, and I'm an all-pro linebacker, and I've been
05:36playing in the league at the top level.
05:37Coming from Murray State, a small division school, not knowing a lot of linebackers.
05:42He basically taught me everything.
05:44And I'm hard-headed.
05:46So, if you can teach me, I feel the most confident he's able to teach everyone.
05:51You're going to be playing with and watching a lot of, in front of you, Myles Garrett get
05:55after the quarterback.
05:56He just sets the sack record.
05:58I'm excited about that one right there.
05:59Yeah.
06:00So, I mean, when you break down, I know you guys always talk about these things, best
06:04players at each position or whatever.
06:06Was Myles always, like, number one, or has it just been made obvious over the last few
06:12years?
06:14Always, always been number one.
06:18I'm glad I got the same side of the ball, because now I'm going to be part of that report
06:24that we get.
06:25Not always us and him.
06:26We'll be like, all right, we're going to be on the field a little bit longer.
06:29So, now I get to be off the field a whole lot longer now.
06:33So, it's the opposite now.
06:36Quincy, who was the better ball player growing up?
06:38Was it you or your brother?
06:40My brother is the better ball player.
06:42I was the most athletic, though.
06:45Okay.
06:45How does that translate?
06:47You were the most athletic.
06:48He's the better ball player.
06:49So, was it a natural head for the game that Quinnen had, or which one is it?
06:52Yeah.
06:54It's the knowledge of the game and actually just the love of the game.
06:57So, he actually studied the game, broke it all the way down.
07:00He probably know all of the trees, probably college trees and everything, bro.
07:04So, he's more like the knowledge of the game.
07:05I actually started playing football just to get a connection with him because I was a junior
07:11Olympic swimmer, and he played football.
07:14I actually didn't play football until I was like 10, almost.
07:18You were a swimmer?
07:21Yeah, junior Olympic.
07:22What was your, what was the event?
07:24Was it back?
07:25I have no idea about swimming.
07:26Freestyle.
07:27You're talking about some bench.
07:28Hold on, man.
07:31It was, uh, it was, uh, sprint meddling, freestyle, I hated butterfly, but breaststroke was my
07:39go-to.
07:41Freestyle, breaststroke, hated butterfly.
07:43I, I really just float.
07:46Um, by the way, thank you for answering the question about your brother.
07:49That's my two truths and a lie.
07:51I, I, I gotta thank you for answering the question about your brother.
07:54I mean, you'll find out.
07:55I'm a very insecure person and I messed up two coaches who were brothers last week and
08:00I've been paying for it ever since.
08:01So I wanted to prove to everybody that I knew that you and Quinn and Williams were brothers.
08:04Uh, Quincy, if you had the Browns pick at number six overall, who would you choose?
08:10Oh man, I don't know.
08:13I'm gonna be honest.
08:14I don't know.
08:15Do you ever, whoever they choose, I'm confident in their choice.
08:18And whoever they bring it to their locker room, I'm gonna make sure I get my arms around
08:21them and make sure you feel welcome though.
08:23Does a, does a offensive guy like you, do they prioritize, you know, getting more in
08:29on their side of the ball?
08:31Because obviously there's like Caleb Downs at Ohio state was amazing.
08:34But then again, are you like, well, I want a more balanced team.
08:37So I would love, I would love that team.
08:39I want a more balanced team.
08:40If anything, I'd be, I'd go for somewhere on the offensive side.
08:45So you're, oh wow.
08:46He's down with offense.
08:47So Cardell Tate, wide receiver, Ohio state.
08:49That's your guy.
08:51I like that.
08:52I like that.
08:52I like that.
08:54I really just want to try to put words in your mouth and say that you want the bronze
08:56to take Cardell Tate.
08:57I'm leading the witness here.
08:58Sorry about that.
09:00Hey Quincy, I do want to ask you, you've been involved in, in, in an off season, you know,
09:06a few different times here.
09:07And there've been some big things happening in the NFL.
09:10And like, we talked about avoided trade that went down last week.
09:15That was the talk of the NFL.
09:17Like how much do you pay attention to that stuff and physicals and how that goes down?
09:23And do you think that's wrong?
09:24How the NFL can rescind a massive trade like that?
09:28And you could be at the whims of a physical?
09:35I don't really have much to say about that though.
09:37But one thing I do know, as far as like, um, the mass cards we think, I don't really know
09:42what the take it was on it though.
09:43But it did, did make sense for me at first until I got like some actual, uh, explaining
09:48though.
09:48But yeah, man, I'm probably going to keep my comment on that one.
09:52I was just looking for you to rip, I was just looking for you to rip the Baltimore Ravens.
09:56Yeah.
09:56I was really looking for you to rip some of it.
09:58You feel me?
09:58I'm going to keep my comment on that one.
10:00Just go off, hey, anytime you go off on a division rival, fans are going to love that.
10:03They're going to love that in the dog pound.
10:05And you'll be able to rip.
10:07Quincy, what, so, what can you say?
10:09I'm in uncharted waters right now.
10:12Well, you can swim in it.
10:13He's very deaf.
10:13Feel out the land first.
10:15Let me feel out the land first.
10:16I don't want to make no new enemies when I just got in here.
10:19Okay.
10:19I'll tell you this.
10:20It's all you have to do, you got to rip Pittsburgh, you got to rip Baltimore.
10:24I don't think we care that much about Cincinnati.
10:26Cincinnati seems to hate us more than we don't even really think about them.
10:29And also, you got to mention the dog pound when you're here.
10:32Did they tell you to mention the dog pound?
10:34I'm sure they did.
10:36Yeah.
10:37I'm the biggest dog pound I had to mention the dog pound.
10:40Of course you did.
10:41Yes.
10:43What do you tell Browns fans what you bring to the table here?
10:47I know you mentioned leadership.
10:49I know you mentioned locker room.
10:50How can Browns fans know that they can trust you here with this football team and this
10:54defense?
10:57Man, practice my celebration, man.
10:59If y'all don't know it now, it's going to be used a lot during the season.
11:02So get ready for it.
11:03It's called a Hiuken.
11:04It's from Street Fighters.
11:06And it's basically an uppercut.
11:07We know that.
11:08So get ready for that.
11:09Big heat.
11:09What is it?
11:10Hold on.
11:11I'm bringing the big heat to New Year.
11:13I always thought it was, Quincy, I always thought it was Hadouk.
11:16Like the Hadouk?
11:17Is that what you're saying?
11:18Or what is it?
11:20Hiuken.
11:22Hiuken.
11:23All right.
11:23I'm going to have to look that up during the break.
11:25Tone, go ahead.
11:26I'm watching it right now.
11:27What was the first thing you did when you heard it was Cleveland?
11:31What did you need to know about Cleveland immediately?
11:35I needed to know what is it to do there, number one.
11:40Just because I'm being real big in the community and stuff.
11:43I do a lot of community work and stuff like that.
11:45So my biggest thing is connecting with on the field.
11:49So entertaining fans on the field.
11:51Got a ball out.
11:52And then on that, connecting with fans off the field.
11:55Just seeing what the environment is about and where am I actually playing at.
11:58Because I'm fighting for the dog pound.
11:59So I need to know who actually is the dog pound that I'm fighting for every Sunday.
12:05Okay.
12:05There's also – I tend to sit in the upper regions of the stadium.
12:09The dog pound is a wonderful area.
12:11They're wonderful people.
12:12Browns fans are wonderful people.
12:14It is a – it's a big, small city, which means that, like,
12:18if you went walking around in New York for five years, like,
12:21I don't know how many people are going to notice football players
12:25compared to, like, the New York Yankees.
12:27Here, if you go walking around at Discount Drug Mart,
12:30I'm telling you right now, people are going to be watching everything you do
12:32and wondering if they can go up and shake your hand.
12:35Mmm.
12:36Okay, okay, okay, dude.
12:38And you sound approachable, so I think everybody's going to be just fine.
12:43Have you texted –
12:44Yeah, I'm approachable, but don't get it confused.
12:46Not while he's eating.
12:47Just don't bother him while he's eating.
12:49Have you – have you been in contact with Shador or Deshaun Watson
12:54or Dylan Gabriel or any of the quarterbacks?
12:58No, not right – not at the moment.
13:00I really just signed, so I really just been getting home,
13:02trying to get everything moved, so when we report April 6th, I'm ready.
13:08Well, Quincy, we can't thank you enough for the time.
13:11Enjoy your – enjoy your offseason.
13:13I know you're working out.
13:13We're looking forward to seeing you up here during OTAs.
13:17Appreciate you.
13:18Thanks for having me.
13:18Thank you, Quincy Williams.
