Flood watches and warnings are underway in Washington as repeated rounds of rain target the Pacific Northwest.
Transcript
00:00Well, we're dealing with an atmospheric river event that's aimed pretty specifically into Washington and parts of southern British Columbia.
00:08Pulling the map way out here, here you can see this pipeline of moisture, and this is coming in from
00:12the southwest.
00:13We have an area of low pressure over the Gulf of Alaska, some extraordinarily cold air across central Alaska right
00:19now.
00:19Some of the areas well below zero for the overnight lows and staying below zero during the day.
00:24But you get into areas a little farther south, and again, this is such a trajectory coming in from near
00:30Hawaii, that areas to the north,
00:33you can see something looking a little more spring-like up into Heidelberg and far southeast Alaska, FAA webcam.
00:38Very nice signs of spring in some parts of the final frontier.
00:43But as we take you into the northwest here, we're on the edge of the heat wave in areas like
00:48Salt Lake City.
00:49Tonight, 49, but daytime highs are going to be up there.
00:52But you get up into Portland and Seattle, and we're in a totally different weather pattern.
00:57I know much of the conversation in the west has been about record heat.
01:00The northwest, very different.
01:02In fact, there are flood watches in effect here in Seattle, Bellingham, Washington, and again, even flood warnings for some.
01:09So Sand Point up in northern Idaho.
01:12So flood warnings are in progress for the heavily populated I-5.
01:15And here we are with, again, just this pipeline of Pacific moisture coming in from the southwest, and this is
01:22a warmer pattern.
01:23Even the passes, Stevens Pass and White Pass, you're up there around 4,000 feet.
01:27You will see a little snow mix in at times, but probably not many accumulations.
01:31It's mainly a rain event for you.
01:33And this is going to be with us Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, not many changes.
01:38So we want to close with a quick look at a rainfall forecast in some areas, the west slopes of
01:42the mountains, 4 to 8 inches.
