00:00And somehow, someway, Team USA hangs on with the great pitching 2-1.
00:04But, of course, that can't be enough for anybody else.
00:07Now there's got to be a storyline about how, man, I wish we had ABS.
00:11I wish we had the World Baseball Classic had ABS.
00:14You guys have no idea what you're talking about, by the way.
00:17Because of two strikes.
00:19You're talking about two pitches in an entire nine-inning game.
00:23Yeah.
00:23Two pitches.
00:25One in the eighth inning against Soto.
00:27Yep.
00:27And then the one in the ninth inning that ended the game.
00:30Which, by the way, looked like a strike to me for the first 98% of it.
00:34And then it fell out of the strike zone.
00:36Wasn't a strike.
00:36You could argue that's a very, very close pitch.
00:39I couldn't.
00:39You could argue it's close enough.
00:40You maybe want to swing the bat at it and maybe foul it off and get another pitch.
00:44But here's what you can't say.
00:46You can't say today, oh, the World Baseball Classic got marred because the Dominican team
00:53lost on a questionable ball strike call to end the game.
00:58Wah!
00:59Wah!
01:00And then, of course, that becomes, you know, if the World Baseball Classic used ABS, the
01:05ABS system would have said that's a ball.
01:07So now it's two men on, two out.
01:09And the Dominican team stays alive for one more batter.
01:14Wah!
01:14Wah!
01:15Well, first off, the reason you can't say that last thing is because what if the Dominican
01:20team would have used both challenges up?
01:23They certainly would have challenged a strike call in the eighth inning.
01:25For sure.
01:26Again, Soto.
01:26They would have won.
01:27I don't know.
01:28Maybe there was another call that we're not paying attention to.
01:30Maybe, yeah.
01:31So everyone's just yelling and screaming, oh, I can't believe baseball ended or the one
01:36particular game ended last night on a questionable ball strike call.
01:41Wah!
01:42How's baseball ever going to fix it?
01:44That's all we've ever had since baseball got invented.
01:48And even with ABS, had the Dominican team used its two challenges prior to that, guess what?
01:56That would not have been challengeable.
01:58And you can't say they would or wouldn't have used their two challenges prior.
02:02I can tell you for sure they would have used it on the Soto pitch in the eighth inning.
02:07But when did we become a society that cries and moans about ball strike calls when we're
02:15in the country that benefited from it?
02:17Right?
02:18Yeah.
02:18Like, it's one thing if Team USA got eliminated from this competition prior to the championship
02:24game and it came down to a questionable, let's even say a bad call.
02:29Because I know you feel like it was a bad call.
02:31I do.
02:32And I respect.
02:32That's fine.
02:32The ball did drop out at the very end.
02:34I know I've seen some people that have posted on Twitter, you know, single frame shots where
02:40it looks like, you know, the last millisecond before it drops out, it would have been a
02:44strike.
02:44But I'll go with you, Tyrone, that it was a bad call.
02:48That's what I said.
02:48It should have been a ball.
02:49It should have been a walk.
02:50Fair enough.
02:51Okay.
02:52But it benefited us.
02:54So why are we upset about it?
02:57That's the thing I don't get at all.
02:59Well, you have people out there that say you want to win, but you don't want to win like
03:03that.
03:04F that.
03:04So stop there.
03:05I've said a million times, we want the easiest possible path to a championship.
03:11Why do you think St. John's fans are complaining of being the five seat out west when you've
03:17got UConn out there and Kansas out there and Louisville out there and Michigan State out
03:23there?
03:24Because it's daunting.
03:26It's a tough path.
03:26Because it's not the easiest path, right?
03:28That's true.
03:29So again, I see American announcers, I see American baseball fans bemoaning the fact
03:35that the World Baseball Classic semifinal ended on a bad ball strike call, but it benefited
03:42us.
03:44Since like, are we that soft and sensitive and woke these days?
03:48Probably overused the term woke there.
03:49It's fine.
03:54Like, I'm sorry, I grew up in a different era where men were men and people that bitched
04:04and moan weren't allowed to speak out of turn.
04:07And now it's like, you know, it's just, it's just so wrong.
04:10It's just unacceptable that the World Baseball Classic didn't use ABS and the Dominican team
04:15lost to the Americans on a lousy call by the home plate umpire.
04:20That's baseball.
04:21You think the Marlins are World Series champions, if not for the most egregious umpiring in the
04:27history of the sport?
04:28Eric Gregg, who's may, may he rest in peace?
04:32Right.
04:32He was a nice man.
04:33He was a great guy.
04:35I loved him to death.
04:36Not a great umpire.
04:37No.
04:37But a nice man.
04:38He and I were both on the board of the Philadelphia Zoo at the same time and a wonderful human
04:42being.
04:43May he rest in peace.
04:45But it's like, what are we complaining about?
04:47Like, I would understand it if Team USA lost and American baseball fans, American, you
04:55know, baseball reporters were yelling and screaming about, this is unacceptable, this is
05:00embarrassing, how could Team USA, blah, blah, blah.
05:04But we won.
05:06And when we win the championship, if we win it tomorrow night, are we going to say, well,
05:12great that we won.
05:14But on Sunday, the home plate umpire got a single, or let's even say two, because everyone's
05:21talking about the eighth inning call against Soto as well.
05:23In the course of nine innings, we're going to complain that a home plate umpire got two
05:30calls wrong.
05:31Who calls wrong?
