00:26yeah you do yeah katie you got that exclusive that's the first time i've got to call myself
00:31that that's pretty exciting how was last night did you have the best time it was electric it was
00:37unreal um i didn't go to sleep till three this morning and woke up at seven it was one of
00:42those
00:42things where i was so emotionally wired i couldn't go to bed it reminded me of when boozy won them
00:47grammys i had the exact same thing happened at night i bet you how many times you cry last night
00:51oh dude a dozen i had a cry headache by the end of the night i haven't had a cry
00:55headache since
00:56somebody died oh my god that is too funny well congratulations to both of you on this soon to be
01:03number one song grammy award-winning number one song um i want to get into the story behind the
01:09song in just a minute but first i want to talk about y'all's friendship because i actually don't
01:12know how the two of you met or do you remember like the first time you heard of the other
01:17person
01:18oh man i remember when i first heard of boozy man it was right but right
01:24for the year church like two months before that i had heard the bar song and i was like this
01:31is
01:31fixing to be the biggest song in the world like you know put it out kind of you know and
01:37i wasn't
01:37even familiar with the work on the beyonce record yet really do you remember the first time you met
01:42jelly or heard about jelly yeah i mean obviously i've heard about jelly since i was like younger man
01:46probably like middle school high school days man he's he's a legend you know um you know nashville
01:52tennessee antioch legend everything so yeah he's kind of had a crazy journey but um i think the story
01:59is right you know i remember him hitting me right around acms is that when they do the the big
02:05show
02:05of billy bobs every year yeah he brought him two years ago and um and man he's just shown me
02:12love
02:12ever since man this is really my brother but um you know i remember hearing um you know what's the
02:17chapel and i was just like man this is a insane album you know like the the level of production
02:23the level of writing the level of emotion like i was like no way this is the same jelly roll
02:28you know
02:28what i mean you know what i mean i knew i was in high school yeah you know it's ain't
02:32the same jelly
02:32roll you know i mean it can't be the vocals were crazy the performances it was like honestly
02:37reference that album every single time i go into a studio session because it's it's just that
02:44yeah jelly how does it feel to hear that i just love it man i just love i love you
02:47know what's
02:48been cool is first of all just it just warms my heart but getting to know him too and getting
02:52to
02:52hang out with shabuzi is like he is the ball of joy that y'all see in these interviews or
02:57that you
02:58see on the streets or like when you see him on stage like that is who he has got the
03:03best temperament
03:04of any human i've ever met under every circumstance we've toured the world together
03:08now i've seen him in all different environments climates and time zones and uh he's he's just he
03:14is who he is man the fact that we're forever going to be together with this song a number one
03:18on country radio a grammy award we got our first grammy how many grammy world winning number one
03:24country songs are are there have there been i mean it's been a couple probably but that's small
03:29this you know what else i was thinking i wonder how many won a grammy before it went number one
03:33at radio too i just thought about all this cool stuff this morning just like man i was thinking
03:37about this this day yeah and and um you know i know you're probably gonna ask this question but
03:42man every time i get on stage man i just like the stories i share about how this record came
03:46together
03:46i see people in the audience like literally shedding tears like actually crying you know because of just
03:51me and jelly's story about two like unlikely you know cast members or what you want to call us you
03:58know outlaws outcast whatever you want to call us like coming together and being like man let's
04:02look beyond the differences that people think that we should have or that we don't belong and let's make
04:07something that's really really special i think god really favored us and rewarded us that day for
04:12for making a choice to to look at each other and be like look man i see you you know
04:17i mean and i see you as
04:18one of me and i see you like i see myself and and everybody else and we i think we
04:22made something from
04:23that place and and really god rewarded us on a sunday you know and uh gave us a grammy for
04:28a
04:28song called amen i know i really there are so many like there's so many layers of beauty to this
04:34entire situation like number one you get to do a song with somebody that you love and respect it's
04:38number two it wins grammys it does amazing award shows it's number one but also then like the most
04:45people like the impact that it has on people's lives is so special it's so rare man so rare i
04:51was
04:51talking about this on stage last night that like i think i'm the most prideful of it because a lot
04:56of the content that i sing about and that shibuzzi sings about and that we tackled in amen are not
05:02songs or albums like beautifully broken are not ones that typically win grammys you know what i mean
05:07like as far as like the content like it's deep it's heavy uh the the pills ran out in a
05:11steel case
05:13you know what i mean like that's deep it might have been said to a little jazzy shibuzzi beat you
05:17know what i mean but at the end of the day that's deep you know what i mean that that
05:20that hits
05:21that's a whole different kind of prayer you know what i mean and uh for people to understand and
05:26that and it also and this is probably a darker moment but it's also sad because it kind of shows
05:30where the world's at that the world needed that kind of a healing man is i hope we get to
05:34a place
05:34where songs like this aren't as needed to be honest you know amen to that literally man i mean
05:40honestly my my three biggest songs even personally even with good news like that being another country
05:45number one you know it's like crazy that i'm like man this is i was like man people need to
05:49hear this
05:50song but i didn't like you said jelly i was like man i i really hope you know people don't
05:54don't
05:54always need this song man yeah but it's great but right now we can use some good news
06:00i'll tell you what baby we're a two-man celebration team again you got a lot of good you got
06:07a lot of
06:07good news coming man and more coming brother seriously seriously i love this it's just going to be like
06:1225 minutes if you guys compliment each other it's so good all right i would love will you guys tell
06:17the story behind writing amen because i i truly don't know that yeah um i think i can kind of
06:23start
06:23um jake tory um who's just one of my favorite writers um they came to me with this record and
06:29as soon as i heard it i was just like this is something i want to cut you know i'm
06:33like this is
06:33this is it like this is a song and we were kind of i kind of had it in in
06:37the pocket in the tuck for a
06:38little bit for a while and you know i just as soon as i heard i was like this is
06:42this is just a huge
06:43song so i got it and um you know cut it added my flavor change some things and then i
06:49had um
06:51an artist signed to me named kevin powers who's one of the most talented guys i've ever met
06:55writer um he helped kind of put jelly's verse together and and um and yeah just just was an
07:01amazing song honestly you know and i think jelly jelly you know he could speak to hearing the song for
07:06first time and feeling like man i gotta do this but yeah i think you know jelly heard it and
07:11you
07:11know i had to hit everyone i had so many people i had to dj uh his security at the
07:16time so many
07:16people like yo we got to get jelly on this song and he's he's got to be a part of
07:20this and i think
07:20jelly heard it was like yo i'm cutting this record and we kind of just sat there and waited you
07:24know
07:24it was kind of just like staring at you know like the clock and just being like when is he
07:28gonna
07:28send it when is he gonna send it yeah then his manager john hit us so it's just like yo
07:32he did
07:32the verse and we got it back and we were like crazy we got a song with jelly rolling you
07:37know
07:37like jelly is like you know that right now he's one of the biggest artists on the planet and one
07:41of the biggest you know names in country music and i think that was probably my first like major
07:47feature or collaboration i've done with a country artist and for it to be jelly roll it was it really
07:53was like just a dream come true man and um and he he you know obviously he's someone that like
07:59he
07:59every night we're on state we're out you know on stage you're doing a show he the way he preaches
08:05the word of god and the way he just and the way he just puts it into everything he does
08:10and he
08:11prays with his prayers before shows his prayers after shows the way he prayed for family it was
08:16just like you know my mother i grew up in the church and my mom prays for me every day
08:19so to see
08:20that tie-in from like my mom to jelly roll to all this it was just like it's just it's
08:25just really
08:25it's really inspiring and i feel like every time i perform that song that song it renews like
08:29and restores my faith and restores my my purpose and um man i don't even know i mean from the
08:37start
08:37of it to like us winning the grammys to about to have a country number one it's just honestly god
08:42just answering my prayers you know and asking god for um i asked you know asking god every single
08:49day to just help guide me and making sure i'm making the right decisions and i'm making the right
08:53kind of music and i have the right message and um and i think it's just like kind of this
08:58weird
08:59full circle moment that the song is just called amen and that's just god being amen your prayers
09:03are answered here you go so and it also is incredible because you think about it like
09:07there's certain songs that you'll never get through a show for the rest of your career without
09:11playing and like amen is going to be one of those and it's like how amazing that it's one that
09:15it does
09:15so much for you every time you sing it 100 and the big reason for even making that was you
09:20know
09:20when i made my first record with bar song you know bar song was the last song i made on
09:24my
09:24on my on my previous album and um you know i just made it for fun and then i ended
09:30up throwing up
09:30throwing it on there and it became like this huge obviously this huge showstopper but a lot of the
09:35other records on my album were kind of more like they're more introspective i like slower music you
09:40know i mean like that's kind of the stuff i listen to maybe i'm just a moody guy but i
09:44end up i end up
09:45listening to a lot of like more um you know i'm more of a listen for the lyrics and the
09:49storytelling
09:50and the narratives so i could my album was a little on the slower side and i would do the
09:55shows i'm like man i need some tempo i need some energy and that's kind of where i started like
09:59this journey to find these the good news is and the amens and blink twice and adding those to my
10:04show really like elevated the experience and i can tell that like those songs like everyone's
10:10everyone's amped it's not just like bar song now you know or like 30 minutes and some guys are like
10:15when's when's he playing the song you know i mean it's like there's other songs that are that excite
10:19them just as much if anything good news and amen are bigger songs now live than bar song is so
10:24yeah i feel like every video i see from your shows it's just it's so funny to think of you
10:28as like a
10:29slow song guy because i always yeah nah i love the slow stuff man i listen that's kind of like
10:36what i
10:36find myself listening to majority of the time but but uh but shows you know people love energy man and
10:41i
10:41saw that in jelly show too i think at the time when my record came and i went on tour
10:45jelly i only had
10:46uh my album right but seeing jelly come in and it's just guns blazing you know i mean energy tempo
10:54everyone's engaged there's crowd participation i'm like i need i need that energy in my shows too so
10:58it definitely inspired me to get back and just making sure there's just moments where
11:02the crowd can engage and and there's chance and there's moments breakdowns and there's you know
11:09there's um you know ups and downs and everything so yeah a lot of heart boozy
11:14a lot of heart too i cry everything you know i do i still do too man it's not this
11:21is not normal
11:21yeah how long you do it i don't care i'm so disgusted
11:27yeah all my friends now are like like this has got to be like an act right like
11:32you don't know this is you don't i dude i got in my car the other night to do something
11:38and just
11:38getting in my car at a moment where i was like and i don't always have this perspective clearly
11:43there are days where i like lose my shit over nothing but it's where you know what i mean which
11:48is like the entitled artist thing but like a car some days you're like i can't believe i have this
11:53car it's like i can't believe that's why i'm gonna get into trouble i'm so disgusted with artists
11:58who are any different like artists standing on that stage looking at the crowd like y'all are
12:04welcome i'm here you know what i'm saying like what is this no it's so true but i think it
12:11also
12:11like it's goes to show that like where you both have come from and all the things that you've gone
12:15through like what's important to you and how you don't lose that like i'm the same way as usually i'm
12:20about to get a new car for the first time in my entire life this weekend and i'm like losing
12:24my mind
12:24i'm like oh my god those are the things that are exciting i'm getting a little gx 550 yeah let's
12:31go
12:32yeah yeah i'm excited but no i think it's important to have that perspective like and i love to hear
12:36that you're crying getting in the car like do you still not have a phone or are you back on
12:40a phone
12:41nope i got a phone but i just don't have the internet okay wait you literally don't have the
12:46internet or you don't have service i don't have um i don't have like anything on there at all i
12:51have
12:51like i can text on wi-fi that's incredible this is like my number ever doesn't load or you don't
12:59see it it's because it's not on wi-fi so my god that's so funny carry the phone thing but
13:04i think
13:04i'm gonna get rid of i don't like it it does make it more convenient for my family but like
13:09i'm just
13:09still bad with it it's just not something i'm like just i am i have always been challenged i've
13:16always challenged by communication in a way that's like not like this you know what i mean
13:21like it's just yeah i'm good at well i feel like you got a lot of a lot of people
13:25want stuff from
13:26you you know what i mean like when you guys are at the level that y'all are at like
13:30people come
13:31out of the woodwork like everybody needs something from you all the time whether it's work family
13:34friends people that you don't want to hear from you know like it's just it's a lot so i don't
13:38blame
13:38you yeah i just recognized the opryland hotel hat that is so sick i wore this for you even though
13:45i
13:45haven't been i haven't played the opry yet man man also man hey i'm sorry man sorry i might
13:51cry right now oh where are you by the way man i mean i have the craziest week man i'm
13:58performing
13:58i'm doing the houston rodeo in two days i only had one rehearsal i can't do a sound check because
14:04i'm uh i'm doing a rehearsal for the oscars two days later i'm doing uh i'm performing
14:10with uh sinners i'm doing i'm doing i never lied or i lied to you i think yeah i lied
14:14to you from
14:15the sinners soundtrack with like you've seen them i don't know if you've seen the movie sinners i saw
14:19it yeah it's incredible um yeah they're recreating the whole scene when they go through all the
14:23different eras of of music and it's showing the lady twerking and the the guy playing electric and
14:29the blues and everything so we're recreating that at the oscar stage and the oscar look dude
14:37oh y'all wish holy boozy baby yeah man but also the opry the opry man is uh that's such
14:44a revered
14:45space man i'm i'm honest i cannot tell you i think i'm more nervous than than anything to play that
14:50space to play that i was the most nervous i've ever been my first of every show and i still
14:55get like
14:55you've seen me like i still get super anxious before shows but the every time i play it now i
15:02will
15:02say this last night it was eerily i was eerily relaxed yeah right before i went out but i was
15:09eerily relaxed but i think it was because i felt so warm like ernest was there leanne morgan was there
15:17laney was there and craig morgan was there that was the lineup it was us five so it was like
15:22literally a family affair back and my whole family came up with it everyone was standing ovations and
15:28everything man and like honestly i feel like country man your story brother that that's a wall
15:34of stories you know what i mean and you're there because of your story man you're trying a lot more
15:38than that but i think a wall of stories what a songwriter dude everyone there could have their
15:45own biopic man you know what i mean so literally i really you know that's the one that i'm like
15:51man
15:51that's the opry so you know um that would have been it but you know the houston rodeo that houston
15:59rodeo is also another big thing too i'm a little nervous about that but uh that is a whole bunch
16:02of people at the houston rodeo oh yeah 75 000 baby and the stage spins and you don't get to
16:08practice
16:08it spinning you just gotta feel it cody johnson had to come give me the whole breakdown i was so
16:13nervous backstage he had to go bubba this is about how fast it goes cody's back there showing me kind
16:17of like give to the concept or when you get off the little the circle do you does it keep
16:23going
16:23no there's a part you can stand where it doesn't go around but so you can jump off like on
16:29the wings
16:29for a minute and then you rise up but ultimately that thing's spinning the whole time bubba did you
16:34go on the riser did you rise up at any point no you know i'm scared of heights
16:39what works out because i'm scared of heights on the point star how are the people behind me
16:45gonna see because the riser doesn't the riser doesn't spin that point doesn't spin
16:50uh-uh no but it'll drop you back down and put you back on the thing okay
16:55yeah you'll be moving as much as you like to move around you're gonna love it man i like to
17:00move
17:01it's gonna be lit man it's gonna be it's gonna be fun i'm so happy for you i also shabuzi
17:05i was
17:05dying because i i saw the news right before we hopped on here that you were performing at the oscars
17:09and i also at the same time saw the news about the oscars goodie bags and i was like i
17:13hope shabuzi
17:13it's a goodie bag because they're crazy that's another one i'm finding i don't know if i'm more
17:17nervous than oscars with opry yeah it's great things um before we wrap up real fast because
17:24i know you guys have a heart out here in just a second but congratulations on the oscars shabuzi
17:27man that's really really good thank you man and that's a conversation we're gonna have later
17:33feel that one baby thank you yeah soak up every second of that it's huge feel that one let that
17:38one sit when katie said that on there for a second i had to let that one sit i had
17:41sorry
17:42katie i had to bring that one back that's big i would just listen to the two of you talk
17:46about
17:46all your stuff this is amazing but i would love like a new music update from each of you with
17:51what
17:52is next after amen whoever wants to go first jelly um i'll go so i think that um i should
18:00my goal is to
18:01release an album this year so okay i didn't release an album last year and that was only the second
18:07time
18:07that i've went a year without putting out an album in like a decade like 13 14 years crazy number
18:12so it's been a year yeah beautifully broken came out august of 20 october of 25 before 20 october of
18:2124 that's great time is flying y'all yeah this album just came out yeah so so for me it's
18:28going to be
18:28almost two years so i'd like to put one out this year katie thanks for asking nobody ever asked about
18:32music no more it means a lot all right guys so obviously amen has been huge but are we will
18:36we
18:36collab together again like is this why i keep doing it i feel like listen i have a rule i'm
18:42an
18:42old hip-hop kid at heart so my rule is real simple if shabuzy got me on his album he
18:46owes me one to be
18:47on mine and that is that is the hip-hop way baby and what people don't know you've ever seen
18:52me
18:53feature on somebody's album i'm secretly going oh i got you later baby wait yeah some people
18:58cashing to me i did a record with uh with someone recently and uh yeah they brought me in the
19:03studio the
19:03next day hey this is what i need you on i was like okay you know what while i got
19:08you well i got
19:09you do that with a famous gospel artist recently oh man that's at the grammys we bumped into each
19:15other and he came to the studio with something he wanted to do and i already had something i wanted
19:19him to do all right y'all i gotta i gotta close out 225 so you can get to your
19:23next thing listen this
19:24was like the joy of my entire week this was so much fun thank y'all congratulations on jelly roll
19:31i love you baby we'll be watching you thank you thank you guys good luck in houston oscars and then
19:38when you play the opry jelly and i are gonna be there jelly you got that text right i know
