Gator is still holding onto playoff hopes for the Detroit Red Wings.
Transcript
00:01like we said there is so much that happened in the world of sports last night and into today that
00:05we just want to get to all of it right so we'll open it up 248-539-9797 you want
00:12to talk about
00:12the red wings collapsed last night and what happened in the last 90 seconds of the game
00:16where they lost i got it absolutely totally understand they have some feedback here we're
00:20collapsing again in march like we have the last three years i'm at a full 10 on the panic level
00:26another texter says uh the red wings are in a worse spot than we imagined despite how much
00:31people talk about the pipeline there's no reinforcements on the way that's from will
00:36uh i would tend to disagree with that i think do have some guys that can bring up um it's
00:41unfortunate that danielson got hurt because that seemed like an obvious one to bring up a center
00:46uh fans cannot blame eiserman for games like last night or march failings in recent years the players
00:52on the ice uh they're routinely told uh they've shown that they can play better uh than this but
01:00they can also they come up small when the pressure is on and that's on them they got no intestinal
01:05fortitude well did they or did they just have a couple mistakes in the last 90 seconds but it's a
01:10year after year after year i got it i got 40 14 30 and 4 the common theme is they
01:16come up small and
01:18you need to come up big call them what you want cat enthusiasts gutless whatever they just gag every
01:26year the cat enthusiasts yes that's what they call uh costas yes is that something like that yeah
01:34something like that i understand what you're saying yeah look nobody wants to see that it was it was
01:39awful the collapse in the 90 seconds it was all gone i don't want to look at the first 58
01:47minutes and
01:47totally dismiss what we saw in 58 minutes where they looked like they dominated a team that should
01:51have been dominated unfortunately didn't capitalize on some earlier opportunities and put the puck in
01:55the net to really put it away and then you have what you had in the last 90 seconds but
02:01yeah it's a
02:02problem march has been a problem that's what we call it the munch of marth it has been a problem
02:06for the red wings over the last several years um what are they you said two two and one right
02:11now in
02:11march yeah so that's not god awful all right it's not like the collapse we've seen in years past but
02:17it's also it's not instilling confidence right now when you had the game right there right in front
02:22of you win it take the two points keep pace with everybody else in the league and actually keeping
02:28them behind you but that's not what happened last night they are shall we say look i look i we
02:35i
02:35buried them we played taps me and kenny uh kenny agreed with me that they're not going to make the
02:39playoffs there is a way obviously after they the tough stretch of that tampa and at dallas coming up
02:45they do have you know munch they have like a four game homestand i believe with you know montreal
02:50calgary boston they have to play the flyers three times the flyers stink um so there is a way that
02:58they can do this they only have to play columbus once and columbus is the team that's on the wagon
03:03right now a good good wagon i mean uh but i just i don't see it and you couple them
03:10with the
03:10injuries and i'm not making it as an excuse because i you i see what pittsburgh has done
03:14without crosby they just don't have enough offense i don't think to win this thing to get in the
03:19playoffs that's my bottom line well that's it's a legitimate concern uh they're not putting the
03:24puck in the net enough uh and and when you're looking to the minors to bring somebody up because
03:29you've got injuries andrew copp goes out of the game last night you know dylan larkin is out for
03:33maybe the next game as well uh you're looking to bring somebody up and give them the opportunity
03:38dominic shine has had his chance he's he's he's i think he's a guy's gives gives the effort that
03:43you want to see right and he has he plays a little bit of edge that they need obviously but
03:47they needed
03:48to have the guy ready to go which would have been you would thought nate danielson but if he's hurt
03:53that's not going to happen maybe it's uh uh one of these other players they have amadeus lombardi
03:58is a guy who plays both center and wing he's got 34 points in 34 games at grand rapids that
04:04could be
04:04somebody that gets a call up we'll see what they do um i think the other way you get offense
04:09look this is just me talking hockey because i like hockey i want to see more shots on net
04:16in volume because i think that creates opportunities you get bad bounces yes you get screening in front
04:22of the net uh maybe there's a rebound that comes out there and i think that's something that actually
04:26might be a strength of actually axel sanding pelica i think as a young offensive-minded defenseman
04:33if you would instill in his brain shoot more shoot the puck more right and they don't have
04:39to be slap shots they can be wrist shots at the net and like you said you get the deflections
04:43i think
04:44especially on the power play and i went to the vegas game and asked to brink at this in the
04:48locker
04:48room after the game i said do you think you guys were on the power play were too cute and
04:53he disagreed
04:53but no they get too sometimes it seems and this has been something with them for years it seems to
04:59me
04:59and it's a look i'm sure other teams go through the same thing but we only watch the wings
05:04not only are they trying to too cute on the power play it almost seems like they're looking for that
05:10picturesque goal the sports center highlight goal when as you mentioned correctly gator just get the
05:15puck on net things bounce so you don't have to waste time cider had the goal on sunday that was
05:21like that
05:21it found its way to the net and it scored and he had another one that was launched towards the
05:26net it
05:26was way wide of it but uh jvr was able to yes to deflect it into the net when it
05:31was two feet
05:32outside of it i think that was a incredible play um and you saw goals that happened last night
05:37it's getting pucks on the net and if you've got traffic in front goaltender can't see it and so
05:44sometimes that puck actually gets all the way through and it finds its way into the net or it
05:47could deflect off somebody's body the game-winning goal went off of falk right uh and then one i think
05:53was it their first goal that was falk was kind of tied up with a player and it went off
05:57of either
05:58one of them and it was just another strange kind of fluky goal they happen they happen because
06:03you're giving it a chance to happen by throwing it at the net i'd love to see more of that
06:08another
06:09post uh texter says uh wings are toast please fire eiserman his prospect that we've walked
06:15waited for suck kosa is rotting in the minors that's from hunter in clarkston i don't think kosa's
06:22rotting in the minors i mean i i think he's doing just fine there he's doing great there actually
06:26this year so is every other goaltender that's playing for grand rapids um but gibson has played
06:31out of his mind so far and talbot has played much better recently look i believe if um i think
06:40talbot
06:40this is his last year of his contract i think i believe so okay so next year you would assume
06:46unless
06:47there's a trade kosa will be the backup yeah the red wings have or they have a check kid who's
06:53pretty good obviously uh trey augustine michigan state eventually he's going to come up yeah they
06:58have uh michael pastava who's the the check kid who's played awfully well a 182 goals against average
07:04935 save percentage and kosa's a 202 and a 926 but kosa plays the lion's share of the games there
07:10uh the the goaltending is not the problem in the future for this team um and these are prospect
07:16and players that you thought maybe they get moved at the trade deadline but the uh the cost was
07:22apparently way too high the asking price is way too high for some of those players maybe it gets
07:26revisited in the offseason and they'll add it that way but we're worried about it now we want to see
07:31this team make the playoffs you know for much of this season we thought this is a playoff team this
07:35is a
07:36playoff team the scary part all season long has been the parody and the conference that there are
07:42so many teams that are so tightly knit together there uh grouped together with the point totals
07:48and you know hope they don't get squeezed out i don't think they're going to get squeezed out
07:52you play taps earlier in the show saying that they're done kenny agreed with you other people are
07:57saying the same thing uh yeah yeah settle down we haven't made the playoffs in a decade what's the
08:02rush a little sarcasm there i think there's uh obviously there's plenty of rush and plenty of
08:08concern for uh red wing fans about what's going on 248-539-9797 is a telephone number of course the
08:15max crosby uh news was huge uh last night when it broke that um of course it started over the
08:22weekend
08:22when it was announced that the ravens were trading for max crosby that they traded two first round picks
08:27to acquire him then last night the trade gets gets nixed because of a failed physical the ravens said
08:36it's not going to happen we're calling off the trade before the uh the league starts up today
08:42so they pivoted right away and then they agreed to terms with trey hendrickson on a free agent deal
08:47so the rest of the nfl is going wow what just happened and well what happens is max crosby is
08:54back on the
08:55open market if you want to trade for him i'm sure the raiders would love to get two first round
09:00picks
09:00for him like they thought that they had with the ravens but if the ravens were the only team coming
09:04with two first round picks with their offer then you gotta the the raiders gonna have to come off
09:09their asking price yes i don't know if that happens the next 24 hours or if that happens the next
09:1324
09:14days but if i were the lions i would be in touch with the raiders to try and see what
09:19it's going to
09:20take to get max crosby and then figure a way to fit it under the cap whether it's restructuring his
09:24contract once you acquire him or asking i'm on ross st brown to restructure his they just got golf to
09:31restructure the contract yesterday or this morning whenever it was and it freed up over 30 million
09:35dollars you know just get a hold of brady unless he's with that uh that influencer who he's supposedly
09:41dating but i mean he's the president right tom brady yes sorry yes i wanted to make sure what we're
09:47talking about here yeah uh right yeah get get on the horn uh what's it going to take uh but
09:52the raiders
09:53has spent an enormous amount of money already with the tampering period and the contracts they've
10:00agreed to with these players in free agency uh that will go official later this afternoon um it's it's
10:07well over 200 million dollars so it's upwards close to 300 million dollars that they've already spent on
10:11free agent uh deals so i would think that uh keeping max at 30 million dollars a year may not
10:19be
10:19beneficial to them and maybe they still want to move him another ticket text coming in regarding max
10:25crosby if the lions acquire max crosby their defense would look like the denver broncos defense did when
10:31they won the super bowl with peyton manning that'd be pretty good well they don't have a secondary
10:36though that's the problem right the lions the problem with the whole max crosby idea of falling in love
10:41with this guy is that you've got holes elsewhere it's not just finding another edge rusher it's
10:48finding a healthy corner it's finding a healthy safety perhaps another linebacker that you need
10:56i mean they haven't really addressed the defensive side of the football in the early stages of free
11:01agency here they did bring back malcolm rodriguez it did bring back rocky assine but those are depth
11:06guys those aren't guys you're expecting to start exactly and they're not paying them a hell of a lot of
11:09money either be careful about trading next year's draft picks next year's draft has far better
11:14prospects than the last couple of years that's from mike and jackson well this is why i say maybe
11:19if you if you really want to hang on to your first round pick this year and take an offensive
11:24lineman
11:24that you offer next year's first round pick if that's more appealing then it's more appealing
11:31248-539-9797 this is 971 hey long ago when people didn't live much past 40 bad eyesight wasn't a
11:39major concern
11:40you
