00:01so now what do they do with it 32 million dollars is today trey hendrickson day time
00:06to shift gears to the defense what are you doing with the 32 million because it better not be
00:12jumping the gun on a gibbs extension paying people who are already here for next year and the year
00:17after let's get players who make this team better right now 248-539-9797 if you've been feeling some
00:24type of way about free agency you got your golf extension restructure what are you going to do
00:31with that money 248-539-9797 and what would make you happy content as a lions fan let's get some
00:38response guys i'm dying to see the lions go all in for a super bowl get the best players you
00:43can get
00:44get more at the deadline get out of the bargain bin can we say the lions have too many holes
00:51and it's
00:52going to be a down year no i'm not willing to concede that yet no guys this was a last
00:57place
00:57team last season they've done nothing to show fans they're serious about winning or improvement
01:02next man up has shown not to work completely neglecting the worst defense in the league
01:07o-line was a disaster and they're still missing two-thirds of the line
01:13uh they're missing well they don't know who's going to be the left guard but they're missing
01:17one-fifth one-fifth the tackle who we think they're going to draft yeah and solidify your
01:23bookend tackles for a decade yeah yeah i look defense i first of all they didn't have the worst
01:27defense in the league last year but it's got to be better uh what do you think the new price
01:31tag is
01:31for crosby now that the ravens deal is off has to be cheaper than two firsts that's steven at work
01:37well i don't know that it's two firsts um because there's not going to be as many teams
01:44in the market there are teams that that did go out and spend i mean so let's just take dallas
01:49for
01:49example they were in on the crosby deal and then when that happened and he was sent to baltimore what
01:56did they do they traded for rashad gary with green bay and so now all of a sudden hey they
02:04they don't have
02:05the same amount of money or the draft capital to spend on trading for max crosby so the teams
02:12that are in the market for max or could afford max crosby with draft capital and cap space has
02:20narrowed so does he stay in in with the raiders i i don't know it's it's really truly fascinating
02:27because i suppose yes he could but if they've made their position known and still are interested
02:31in shopping him john will there be teams today that pull out of deals they've previously agreed
02:37to risk hurting their reputation because they love max crosby and the price just got lower look
02:42it's only one first like if you're the bears would you call up uh devin bush and go hey dude
02:47i
02:48put that deal out to you but uh i find it unlikely um that that would happen what's more likely
02:55is
02:56teams all of a sudden hey this morning they're scrambling to restructure contracts and maybe
03:02cut some veterans to clear up some space to make room for max crosby but then you still got to
03:08have
03:08a team that's willing to part with two firsts or is it a first and a second well how about
03:14this
03:15what if the lions offer second this year first next year use the golf money and add crosby
03:21use the first pick on tackle i i'm all for it i i but but then you still have to
03:28figure out okay
03:29what are you doing in the secondary which you don't have to have as high a caliber player because
03:34you have a hutchinson and max crosby up front john that's it fax it into brad second this year
03:40first next year use the golf money everybody's happy it's on your your uh social media later today
03:46the photoshopped image of crosby and alliance jersey there's going to be a lot of of curiosity
03:52with what the raiders are going to do with max crosby especially with as much and we mentioned it
03:58yesterday they have been free spending all of the money that they thought that they had and now
04:05they don't have it they still have plenty of cap space and still keep him yeah
04:10i cannot wait to see how this plays out today league year opens 248-539-9797 guys there are three
04:19ways the lions could make me happy hendrickson or crosby but if they don't go big i want the senior
04:24citizens calais campbell or cameron jordan two one-year deals for the productive professionals
04:32that are always healthy so i i yes for cam jordan i don't know calais campbell if i would go
04:43down that
04:44road anymore there's only so much football left there right guys holmes treats free agency like
04:50he's grocery shopping with a bridge card sick of the one-year contracts for mid-level players matt
04:54in marine city get to the phones alex in ann arbor alex good morning hey good morning jim
05:01what's going on hey alex john's here too by the way hey how's it going hey so i go back
05:08to what
05:09dan campbell said at the beginning of the offseason where he said he wants to get back to what they
05:12were a few years ago and to me that was they were young and there was open competitions all over
05:18the
05:18roster so i think they're going to bring in 25 rookies and they're going to tell them hey there
05:22are opportunities to go in playing time at numerous positions so that's why i think they're just bringing
05:28in low level 26 27 year olds that also have something to prove and they're going to say
05:33we're going to have young or i mean they're going to have hungry dogs around the stars of the roster
05:39i think that's the approach that's going on here do you think that's an approach that can compete for
05:44a super bowl this year i'm gonna say yes because they still have 10 dudes that can carry the team
05:52and that's probably a stronger core than what the core was of the team when they went to the
05:57nfc championship game and then they brought in all these you know amin raz and the jay mo they were
06:02all coming into their own i think they're trying to find the next wave of rookies to come into their
06:07own and complement what we have now so if if that's the route that they take i would disagree that
06:15that's a roster built to complete compete for a super bowl that's uh fingers crossed that is that is
06:22that's a gap year and i heard stony i think say that yesterday that that that would be to me
06:26a gap
06:26year hey let's be good enough to be better in the division and make the playoffs and see what happens
06:34but we go for it in the coming years i think it's entirely possible that even if this team doesn't
06:40get better they make the playoffs next year yeah playing a last play schedule three more gimme games
06:46right they won nine last year what if they win 10 or 11 and they're roughly the same football team
06:49they can make the playoffs but they just won't do anything in the playoffs the time to to make
06:55moves that pay off in the playoffs are now i agree i mean look what the seattle seahawks and new
07:01england patriots did last year they added some key cogs and free agency and the lions lost a lot of
07:06key cogs oh i know it works both ways but you got to seize the day and seize the moment
07:10and john if
07:10they just freed up this money 32 million with golf i want to see them seize the day so and
07:15having
07:16mentioned seattle is there anybody in seattle right now that is crying that they've lost
07:21reek woolen or kenneth walker or any of the other free boy a mafe no you just hit play on
07:28the super
07:28bowl dvd you're fine exactly you know what i mean nobody has dvds but like yeah you're just gonna
07:33replay those memories forever and okay who cares yeah you you never get rid of your uh uh whatever
07:38service you have because that's where the super bowl is saved
07:43sean west bloomfield you're on 97 one gentlemen i love in theory what you're saying about crosby
07:50and hendrickson but this is the sixth off season now where i've been completely disappointed by
07:55brad holmes like you get excited for this period of the year right and then he does nothing of impact
08:01so and i you know a lot of people tout his draft uh capabilities i disagree with that i mean
08:07his first
08:07year we had a very high draft pick and sewell dropped to us at six i believe right so the
08:12next
08:13two years the guy had seven you're right two first round picks to manage right so we had a horde
08:19of
08:20really high draft picks what has he done since in the draft right and i you know we can tout
08:25amon ross
08:25st brown as a fine but i think any gm that's picking five six years right with that volume of
08:32picks it's like sitting at a roulette table right they all probably have hit on somebody or the vast
08:36majority of gms later in the draft it's it's more about amon ross st brown as a as a man
08:42and a player
08:42than it is about the fact that he found him right so i just i'm getting really really to a
08:48point where
08:48i'm losing faith in the guy i can't i can't see what he's doing that is improving the team or
08:53making
08:53sense other than making a whole bunch of draft picks early in the draft when he first came into
08:58the organization but he didn't just kind of hit on those guys like the his hit rate on all pro
09:02talent
09:03like we can be concerned about the next step without dismissing what he did at the start
09:08joseph was a fourth rounder right a lean mcneil i know he's got to get back from this acl was
09:12a
09:12third rounder both of them have injury yeah they both need to get right monroe st brown was a fourth
09:16rounder but the hit rate even if you have a top 10 pick it doesn't mean those guys are guaranteed
09:22to
09:22be gold jacket guys you know so i i can understand his overall point of like hey we're reaching that
09:28rubber
09:29meets the road moment but i don't need to like look in the rearview mirror and start trashing
09:33the the good drafts he had right it's worth pointing out 24 was not a good draft and it's worth
09:39pointing
09:39out 25 you need a lot more from ty leak and you're going to need another step forward from ratlitch
09:43among
09:43other things but you can't solely rely on who they drafted last year and who they're going to draft this
09:48year that's what this week is about that's why you free up 32 million dollars my fear is it goes
09:53to
09:54re-signing current players what i'd love to see today is a real push for one of these impact
09:59players still left on defense today is a defensive day it could be shoot for the moon trey hendrickson
10:05max crosby it could be cam jordan you brought up bosa there are guys out there you freed up 32
10:13million
10:14dollars don't squirrel it away for a rainy day use it today 248-539-9797 kurt you're next up you're
10:22on 97.1
10:24good morning gentlemen what's up oh i'm just thinking that uh we don't think we need to make
10:30a splash um i i think we're pretty good where we're at you know obviously we'll see what they do
10:36in the
10:36draft but there i just don't think we need it and you know i listen to a lot of like
10:41um i'll just say
10:42xm radio i've yet to hear former player former gm former coach all say they don't need to make a
10:49splash it only seems like it's just local media is it just something that we think we gotta have
10:54or i think it's a reflection of finishing last place in the division right well yeah but come on
11:01you can't do much about injuries it was a new year without our without bad johnson i mean there was
11:06a
11:06lot of things that went into that it sounds like excuses though they don't make those excuses right
11:11no they don't but they're still there i mean you can't deny them
11:15no but but by this logic if they last year's offseason coming off a 15 win season they did
11:20it their way and they regressed all the way out of the playoffs maybe they did do things a little
11:24differently it's possible but i still don't see a splash i mean let's say we do sign cosby who are
11:31we not going to be able to re-sign if we keep him we're going to be able to keep
11:34branch we're going
11:35to keep campbell you know we got to sign jameer we got a lot of young people we might lose
11:40for just
11:41one player i don't know if i agree with it well campbell jack campbell is under contract for one
11:47more year his rookie year you pick up the fifth year option it's two more seasons jameer gibbs has
11:52rookie year fifth year option and honestly you could tag him and still get a good deal so three more
11:57seasons yeah are we really more concerned are we really more concerned about the 2028 lions than the
12:022026 lions is that what i'm hearing um yeah i guess you know i don't i don't want to
12:11lose some guys just for one player and and i have yet we haven't seen one good rookie go to
12:16their fifth year option have we well they typically roll them into deals like sewell they picked up
12:21the fifth year and then rolled it into the deal jamo they picked up the fifth year rolled it into
12:25the
12:25deal same with aiden and and look i think that's what they might do this offseason which is why i
12:30said hey freeing up the 32 million for jared goff is cool yeah only if you actually put it into
12:35new players and not current players super quick point here look at are the lions the 2023 eagles
12:40the team that fell apart late in the year they did make the playoffs but lost in tampa ugly i
12:45think a
12:45nine-win team right that was a patricia team yeah and they'd started 10 and one and they i think
12:49that
12:49was 10 and 7 actually okay what they do in free agency in 2024 is that the year they went
12:54out and got
12:56saquon and bryce huff did they trade for aj brown or they already have them they already had brown
13:00they did that the year before 248-539-9797 we'll get feedback from you guys it's 97-1
