For years, the Breakfast Shed in Port of Spain has been a go-to spot for quick, affordable meals for workers and visitors to the capital. But vendors say that would soon come to an end after they were asked to vacate the facility by April 30th. They argue the decision is unfair and could leave many without a source of income.

00:00The popular spot known as a breakfast shed located near the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain could soon be
00:06a thing of the past.
00:07Vendors operating at the decades-old food hub said they were asked to vacate the property by April 30th,
00:14following action taken by the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago over outstanding bills linked to the facility.
00:21They could have found a solution to the problem because these bills that they say that we are owing us
00:28is concerning from years ago,
00:32prior to before the tenants who are here occupying the property.
00:37This vendor believes those currently operating at the breakfast shed are being treated unfairly
00:43and says attempts to engage with the authorities have gone unanswered.
00:47No, we are not. Why? Because they are not willing to meet with us.
00:52Mr. Lihon sent out several phone calls, several letters.
00:58He even suggested solutions where we could try to do something in order to try to meet the requirements
01:06to at least start paying off these bills that had nothing to do with the tenants that are here prior,
01:13but we are not getting any response from them.
01:17She adds that the closure of the breakfast shed could have some serious consequences for the vendors and employees
01:23who depend on the facility for their livelihood.
01:25It is going to affect greatly because, remember, investments were made.
01:30You purchase equipment, you hire staff, they are on the breadline at the moment when here is closed, right?
01:42You see how things are going now with respect to the downturn of the economy.

01:50TV6 News also spoke with several customers off-camera.
01:54Many expressed concern over the possible closure,
01:57saying the breakfast shed has been a staple for affordable meals in the capital.
02:01Some said they were shocked to learn vendors were being asked to leave,
02:05while others described the situation as unfortunate.
02:09TV6 News reached out to the chairman of Udicot for comments,
02:12but up to news time, there was no response.
