00:00This is the last chance for the number 30 to get the job done and get his first triple crown
00:05win.
00:06The only guy I see that's going to be able to knock off Davies is this man right here,
00:11and it's going to start with a good start.
00:14See if he can lock it in.
00:24Oh, Seth Handbecker there.
00:25You see the finishes there.
00:27This is going to be about salvaging the night.
00:30He wants to win this championship.
00:32The upside of the triple crown is if he can put in a win here,
00:35he may find himself on the podium and say what's otherwise been difficult in the Annapolis round.
00:45Cole Davies, he's been exactly where he wanted to be in the first two rounds of the season,
00:50and that is winning, and that's what he's done in race one and race two,
00:55and now he's put himself in a fantastic position where he doesn't have to win the third one.
00:59If he comes second, that will be good enough to take the overall tonight,
01:03so everyone will be chasing the 37.
01:05And keep an eye out on this man here, Daxton Benick aboard the Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna.
01:15He's really worked hard on his psychological game.
01:19He really enjoys this environment at Rockstar Husky,
01:24and the results are showing.
01:25So far this year, he's been in the top five.
01:28He was on the podium in Arlington, got the year off to a great start,
01:31finished fifth in Daytona last week, and his average hit tonight has been fourth,
01:35so he's right in the zone.
01:37Well, he is, and again, he's got some insurance there on point,
01:40so another good start and run up front.
01:43He will be on the podium, and he grew up on these Austrian brand motorcycles,
01:48so he's very comfortable, like what you were just telling us,
01:51and it's really no surprise.
01:53He works well with Nate Ramsey, the team manager of that factory Husky Rockstar team,
02:02and, man, it's great to see Dax doing well.
02:11Racing for the final time tonight.
02:14Racing to have a weekend off and a reset of sorts.
02:20And there's one guy here on this gate who's going for a perfect night.
02:25Can the 18-year-old Cole Davies do it?
02:34You can see where he's starting.
02:38Bike 37 there, five in from the left, from camera left.
02:42He's got some quick guys on his inside.
02:45Start as crucial as we've seen.
02:4915 seconds.
02:52He's been very clinical when he's been answering the questions on the podium.
02:56It's like, this is what I'm meant to do.
02:58This is what I expected to do at the beginning of the year.
03:02But we've seen a lot of fire and passion from Bike 30 there.
03:05Joe Shimoda, third and final race.
03:072.50 East here in Indy.
03:10Let's go!
03:14Shimoda got a good start on the inside.
03:17It's Jalik Swal again.
03:20Brown is in the mix.
03:21Ah, two whole shots in a row.
03:23Like you said, a great start for Pierce Brown as well.
03:27Just what the doctor ordered.
03:29Look at Simonson though.
03:36What a great opening lap.
03:38Here comes Jalik Swal though.
03:39Fighting back.
03:42And does successfully so.
03:44Yeah.
03:45Pushes his weight back up the inside to the lead.
03:47Executed that pass perfectly.
03:49You can see that door opening up.
03:52He angled that motorcycle and he landed off that double off the whoops and cut back underneath Simonson.
03:57Great ride for Simonson to run up here.
04:02He's in his home state.
04:04The rider from Terre Haute, Indiana has Pierce Brown storming out the inside.
04:08Cole Davies, pardon me.
04:11Davies and Shimoda is a little wide and loose.
04:13Davies gets that position.
04:18There's that triple onto the tabletop that JT was giving us on the Yamaha track report.
04:23How crucial it is.
04:24Not only in the 450, but the 250 class.
04:29Shimoda working on Simonson.
04:31That was a good audible that Simonson did compared to the first lap.
04:36Meanwhile, look up the track.
04:38Davies has bridged that gap already.
04:40As Joe Shimoda tries to cut back down on the inside.
04:44Davies has taken off, chasing after Jalik Swal in a copy of the second race.
04:52What a ride from Devon Simonson here early on.
04:55Oh, yeah.
04:56Breakout ride for sure.
04:58Keeping the SMX 250 world champion at bay.
05:13This is really cool stuff for Devon Simonson.
05:18If he can grab a top five, that would be huge.
05:21Meanwhile, Jalik Swal, what did he take from being in this position in the second race?
05:26Well, I think he took a lot, especially now believing in yourself.
05:35Getting that confidence back, knowing and believing in himself that he can race for these wins.
05:43Reassurance always helps.
05:50It's been a 9-7 result on the 9th.
05:539th in race 1, 7th in race 2 after leading for quite a way.
05:57Here comes Cole Davies.
05:58Look at that run through the whoops.
06:00Wow, using up that right side.
06:02You cannot get any closer to the tough blocks than Cole Davies was right there.
06:07And just a great run.
06:10No surprise, though, he's been using that right side of the whoops all night long for the most part,
06:16especially early on in these races.
06:19JT?
06:21Yeah, Ricky, that line you're talking about there, you know,
06:23it's one of the only fresh parts of the racetrack simply because of the risk involved.
06:28Davies is so close to the tough block, and the only way really through there is...
06:35It's certainly working for Davies.
06:41...behind Pierce Brown, who runs 5th at the moment.
06:4677th, Derek Kelly's having a tremendous run tonight.
06:49Meanwhile, Shimoda still cannot find an avenue by Devin Simonson.
06:55Yeah, Simonson doing a great job, and Joe just can't get by him,
06:59and he's losing some costly time to have any shot whatsoever to contending for the overall win,
07:06and it's going to be really hard at this point.
07:15Pierce Brown overall, I mean, looking at the big picture here,
07:20this is one of his better triple crowns,
07:22so not ideal for the championship, but still an improvement.
07:27Here's a pass.
07:30Shimoda on the inside.
07:31Persistence and patience finally pay off for the Honda HRC rider.
07:37Yeah, it'll be interesting to see these next couple laps.
07:40These four seconds off the lead, so...
07:45See what he can do.
07:46Tell us more, Will.
07:49Guys, when he was on the podium, and I was interviewing him there in the last race,
07:52he said, you know, what's your takeaway of where you're at?
07:55And he said off camera, he's like, well, I do have to remember,
07:58this is only my 10th day back riding Supercross,
08:01and it just put it in perspective for me where he's been at,
08:05where he's gotten to, excuse me,
08:07after that injury that you guys spoke about.
08:09It was a very serious injury,
08:11a scary one that he admitted in his own words there.
08:14And when I spoke to Ben Griffith, his mechanic, earlier,
08:17he said he couldn't believe how quickly Joe got back to the pace that he is riding now,
08:23and he just wanted to remind me how incredible that really is.
08:27He also shared with me the Hunter Lawrence, Joe Shimoda's HRC teammate there in the 450s,
08:34told him, when you get back on a bike, Joe, I want you to go and ride the track.
08:38There's two tracks.
08:39Oh, he stalled the bike there.
08:41Two tracks at the dog pound, and he said,
08:43go and ride the one that you had your accident at.
08:46Go back and face your fear.
08:48Joe said, okay, got back out there.
08:49That was his first day on Supercross.
08:54Yeah, he stalled the bike right there on the inside,
08:57able to fire it up quick.
08:59Still, Simonson having a great ride hanging in there.
09:03He sure is, but he's going to have company in the form of Hamaka.
09:06Oh, this is Brown.
09:07Looks like he hit neutral there, possibly.
09:10Nice save, though.
09:11Yeah.
09:12Nice save.
09:12Hamaka went flying by,
09:14and he has caught Devin Simonson pretty swiftly as well.
09:19That was a good catch, but a lucky escape as well for Pierce Brown.
09:25Here's that battle is talking about Devin Simonson having an outstanding run.
09:29Phenomenal race.
09:31In fourth place, trying to hold off the Daytona winner.
09:35That tells you how good this run is for Devin Simonson.
09:38Sometimes these riders, and I go back to his teammate Cody Shock a couple years ago,
09:42having some great rides and establish himself,
09:45and I think that possibly this could be one of those rides for Devin here and impressive.
09:50And this isn't easy to do, getting a good start like that,
09:54running up front when these guys are just hounding you.
09:56It's like you're in the hornet's nest, and he's done a great job.
10:03Quick reminder to stock up on Monster Energy drinks at Kroger.
10:08We see the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki.
10:11It was a top three result in race one,
10:13and unfortunately things didn't go to Seth Hamaka's plans in race two,
10:18where he finished ninth.
10:19That hurts him in the overall points thing.
10:21Here's Piers Brown trying to come back after that little hiccup earlier.
10:25He works on fellow Yamaha rider Devin Simonson.
10:28In the background is Devin's teammate Cody Shock.
10:31Then Derek Kelly, Daxton Benick is a little further back than where he thought he'd be,
10:35and then Coloured Park and Nate Thrasher.
10:39Whoa!
10:40Big chill, big leap from Cody Shock coming onto the scene.
10:48As the teammates go at it, through the warps, two minutes, 20 left on the clock.
10:53Nobody's even close to race leader Cole Davies.
10:58He's on his own level here tonight, and again, no surprise,
11:03and it's great to see him put it together all three races so far here.
11:09Just a little bit longer to go, two minutes plus one lap.
11:14There he is.
11:16He's special.
11:19Well, certainly.
11:22Tell us more, Will.
11:24Well, Lee, Ricky, we're looking at a perfect night frame across these three races.
11:29I find that interesting.
11:30As I was talking to his mom, his mechanic, the people closest to him today,
11:33they were telling me what a perfectionist Cole Davies is.
11:37You don't necessarily know that when you meet him.
11:39He's kind of a quiet guy.
11:40They said so much of a perfectionist, everything is, like, folded in his locker in the truck.
11:45Everything's in his perfect place.
11:46His mom told me that's the way he's always been through his whole life.
11:49Everything in life is organized, so he finds it tough when he hasn't got perfection in his riding
11:54to let those mistakes go.
11:56He said that's kind of part of it.
11:57It's just the good and the bad, and he's having to sort of, like, let that stuff go.
12:01Mistake, move on.
12:02But that's that perfectionist in him that apparently has been there his whole life.
12:06Well, and it's obvious in just his demeanor when he talks about his results,
12:11whether it be victorious or not.
12:12This is a good scrap for third.
12:14Honda versus Kawasaki, Shimoda versus Hamaker.
12:17Well, Hamaker's definitely found his flow here in the third race.
12:22And it's going to be a tough night for Hamaker from a points perspective,
12:26especially after that crash last moto, or last race, pardon me, in the whoops.
12:32Jalik doing a great job holding on.
12:34Man, this is going to be tough to defend that position.
12:36These guys are all over him.
12:39He's only got a couple more laps, JT.
12:42Yeah, and you've got to think that Seth is really benefiting from this Triple Crown format,
12:47though, because it's been a really tough night, as you mentioned.
12:50But look, as the points as they run, he's still going to be on the podium.
12:53So what could have been really challenging, he's only going to lose five points to the leader.
12:58Right.
12:58It's like, JT, it's like, this is where it works out for you.
13:01We talked about, like, again, could you imagine that second race if it was a regular main?
13:06It would have been horrible.
13:07Jalik Swal trying to grab his second podium, but it's just evaporated like that as both Shimoda and Hamaker go
13:16by.
13:18And now it's the fight for second between these two guys.
13:21Final lap.
13:23Cole Davies on his way home for the perfect night in Indianapolis.
13:30In just his second year in Monster Energy AMA Supercross, last year in Glendale, Davies won two of the three
13:38races to finish third overall.
13:41Last year in Arlington, he did win a race, but he got fourth and 17th in the other two.
13:47So he finished seventh overall.
13:49Well, scrub those results, they don't matter, because this 18-year-old from New Zealand is going to be perfect.
13:57Good job.
13:58How about great job?
14:01He said last week in Daytona, if I do what I'm supposed to do, nobody can touch me.
14:07Well, nobody's touched him tonight.
14:10Triple crown winner.
14:11One, two, three for Cole Davies.
14:16What happened to Joe Shimoda coming to the line?
14:20Check this out.
14:21Oh, he's looking back behind him.
14:25Hamaker gets by.
14:27Oh, he gets sideways in the whoops, goes off course.
14:31Oh, boy.
14:31He's got to check up here.
14:34Oh, it'll be interesting to see what the officials think of that.
14:39I mean, he did check up and didn't just twist the throttle, so we'll see what happens.
14:45Look how much this means to this young guy.
14:48All business tonight.
14:50One, two, three.
14:52That's a sweet victory for Cole Davies.
14:55One, two, three.
