Gabriela, a theater student and cheerleader for a basketball team begins a job at a carwash in order to help out her family - her father has just died and she is the eldest of her siblings. The carwash is owned by a famous businessman, Tony Clemente, who will meet Gabriela and have a short but passionate affair with her. Gabriela, however, is falsely accused of drug trafficking and ends up in jail, with a 15-year sentence. Tony abandons her due to her bad luck, choosing to ignore the fact that she is expecting his child. In jail, Gabriela plots her escape, something she pulls off after having served seven years behind bars. Only one objective drives her existence: revenge against the man who ruined her life, Tony Clemente. To achieve her purpose, she changes her name and her physical appearance and manages to reintroduce herself into the life of Tony, making him fall in love with her all over again.

00:27You
00:35And I got to take a plane to Santa Domingo.
00:37Oh, no.
00:38When?
00:51Morning.
00:57Oh, yeah?
00:58You think so?
00:59What are you doing here?
01:03We don't want any problems on the way down to the police station.
01:06This is wrong.
01:07How could you possibly press charges after I've broke my back working for you?
01:12All right.
01:12Go ahead.
01:13You take the blouses.
01:14You don't have to pay me, but please don't embarrass me.
01:17Don't do this, Mr. Amaya.
01:22Eloise.
01:25Excuse me.
01:26I didn't...
01:29Who are you?
01:30Wallace Mandela.
01:35You working for Mr. Clemente?
01:39Not really.
01:43I see.
01:46Well, I'll only be here a few minutes, you see.
01:49Tony gave me the key.
01:50It's my record.
01:51I lent it to him.
01:52He said I could get it.
01:54I'm sure it's right over here.
01:56Let's see.
02:05Excuse me for asking, but...
02:08Could your name be...
02:10Gabriel?
02:15And why would you say that?
02:16Tony has mentioned you.
02:18There's nothing to worry about.
02:20We're very good friends.
02:25Yes, I've seen you around.
02:28At the party, at the club.
02:30You know, the one that was held for all the employees.
02:32Oh.
02:35Yes.
02:36That was the evening you met, Tony.
02:38Right.
02:38And you were wearing that dark, sexy dress.
02:44I don't think he expected you to be here.
02:46He would have mentioned it.
02:48I tried to leave, and the gate locked.
02:50Then you don't have a key.
02:52Hmm.
02:54Aha!
02:54I found it.
02:58Mozart.
02:59Mozart.
03:08So you know that Tony went out of town.
03:09He must be on his way to the airport.
03:11He's playing leaves for Santo Domingo soon.
03:17Well, I'll be going now.
03:19Are you staying here?
03:19No, no, I'm on my way.
03:21Um, look.
03:22Thank you, Mr. Mandela.
03:24Thanks a lot.
03:24If you hadn't come along, I don't know how I'd ever get out of here.
03:27Looks like you've been pretty busy in here.
03:29Nice work.
03:32It's just silly.
03:39You all right?
03:45I guess so.
03:48I feel foolish.
03:51Gabriel, I'm gonna give you some advice, and you can ignore all of it.
03:56Leave through that doorway.
03:59And don't look back.
04:01I'm telling you this as a guy who's been around a while, and has seen some things, and as a
04:07friend.
04:09But maybe you don't understand.
04:12That's possible.
04:14It's not like the other women who visit here.
04:16No, no, I'm not saying you're like those other women.
04:18But you are here.
04:20Yes, I'm here.
04:22And as long as you've started this conversation, I'll tell you exactly why I'm here.
04:26For Tony.
04:27He wants me here.
04:29He knows that we should be here.
04:32Why else would I visit him?
04:34Gabrielle, all this explanation is really quite unnecessary.
04:39Although, Gabrielle, let me say this regarding Tony Clemente.
05:00Good morning.
05:02I'd like to speak to Mrs. Layla Clemente.
05:04I don't want to talk about this anymore.
05:06There's no way you can understand what's in my head and in my heart.
05:09The depth of passion that I feel.
05:11There's no way I can explain it.
05:15It's between me and Mr. Clemente.
05:17It's all right. It's all right.
05:19Let me take you home now, okay?
05:22No.
05:23I have a car. You don't have to worry.
05:27But I would like you to do me one favor.
05:31Don't think less of me because of today, huh?
05:33And why would I think less of you now, Gabrielle?
05:36Oh, I don't know what I'm saying.
05:38I'm just trying to make sense of this thing.
05:41How can I explain it to you?
05:43There's no way I can tell you how I feel without you thinking of me as a silly girl.
05:47I know I seem out of place right now.
05:49I know it seems like I don't belong here.
05:52But I didn't feel that way the night of the party with Tony.
05:55How can I explain how special that night was?
05:58Just Tony and me.
06:00I know he felt the same way I did.
06:04I know.
06:08Well, I better be going now.
06:11And thank you again for freeing me.
06:13I was sure I was going to be lost in this place forever.
06:16You must think I'm a very cold person.
06:19What for?
06:19Because I was trying to give you advice.
06:23Oh, no. Don't worry about it.
06:25It's nice.
06:28I understand what you were trying to do.
06:32Come on. I'll walk you to your car.
06:35I would like that very much.
06:38Thanks.
06:56Yeah, thanks for all your help.
07:00Can I leave a message for you?
07:03No. I need to speak to Mrs. Clemente. It's personal.
07:07She is expected home for dinner. Perhaps you could see her then.
07:11And her husband?
07:13Mr. Clemente is in Santo Domingo. He is expected to return in two days.
07:18Ah.
07:20He left today?
07:22I presume he left early.
07:24He should be on his way right now.
07:26Well, please give a message to Mrs. Clemente.
07:28That I'll be here tonight.
07:30Perfectement, madame.
07:31Excuse me?
07:32Pardon.
07:34I will tell her. What name shall I use?
07:38Tell her that I'm Amanda Harelings.
07:40She doesn't know who I am.
07:42But after tonight, she will know who I am.
08:02The police are on their way.
08:14Gabrielle! Gabrielle!
08:15Open the door for me! Hurry up!
08:18They're going to arrest your mother and take her to prison!
08:21Gabrielle! Gabrielle!
08:25Gabrielle, there's no way I can get there now.
08:27Things are very complicated.
08:31Just tell me, Tony.
08:33Do you love me?
08:34Or did I just dream this whole thing up like a foolish schoolgirl?
08:39Do you love me?
08:43No. No, you didn't dream it, Gabrielle.
08:45I love you.
08:55I can't forgive him.
08:58He did a terrible thing, Karen.
09:02Listen, you have to take a minute and cool down because right now you aren't looking at it clearly.
09:07You don't want to do something you'll regret.
09:09You have to think. Come on. Use your head. You're too upset to be deciding now.
09:14Come on, Amanda. You know I'm right. Leave Tony alone. Back off. It will all work out fine.
09:21Tony left for Santa Domingo.
09:23Well, that's even more reason to leave it alone.
09:25You listen. You have nothing to gain by going and talking to his wife.
09:29How is that supposed to help?
09:31Amanda, you don't know anything about this woman. She could be completely crazy.
09:36And what if she's mad that her husband gave you those credit cards in the first place?
09:40She'll put you in a meat grinder and make little packages out of you. You understand?
09:43Well, I just can't sit here and take it, you know.
09:46And I know you prefer to live well. Amanda, if you want things to be the way they were, you're
09:50going to have to wait for Tony.
09:52You have to be patient, honey. Getting back together has to be Tony's idea.
10:01Mom?
10:07Mom, are you here?
10:23Mom?
10:25Mom?
10:27Mom?
11:06Hmm, you sweet old mom.
11:16Gabrielle, hurry!
11:17Gabrielle, open the door!
11:20What's the matter?
11:21Gabrielle, it's your mother.
11:21Huh?
11:22They're arresting her, Gabrielle.
11:23Hurry!
11:24She told me to tell you about her.
11:25What are they doing to her?
11:26They're taking her prisoner, Gabrielle.
11:28Prisoner!
11:38Please, I'd like a ticket to Santo Domingo.
11:40The next flight.
11:41The next plane leaves in 45 minutes.
11:45It'll have to do.
11:46I have no bags.
11:48Your name?
11:50Amanda Herrlings.
11:51And will you pay with credit card or cash?
11:54Cash, please.
11:56How long is the flight to Santo Domingo?
11:59It's two hours.
12:00And do you have your hotel?
12:03Yes.
12:05I know exactly where I'm going.
12:07They called her a thief.
12:09What's happening?
12:10They arrested Mrs. Swanson.
12:12Oh, you were quiet.
12:13Because someone said she stole some fabric.
12:15But what piece of fabric?
12:16But who would say such a thing about Lucille?
12:18They said it was very expensive fabric.
12:20But what fabric could they be talking about?
12:22Come here, Huey.
12:23Did anyone tell you what they were looking for?
12:25Or did they tell you what pattern or color it was?
12:29Come on, Huey.
12:30Let's look in here.
12:31Oh, this is terrible.
12:33Is this the one?
12:34That's it.
12:35They told you Mama Sola from the factory?
12:37Uh-huh.
12:37What's happening?
12:38They're arresting your mother for stealing fabric.
12:40Where is she?
12:41Hurry!
12:43You're here.
12:44I thought you were already back on the island.
12:46No, it's very complicated.
12:48Work things you know.
12:49It'll simply keep me out of trouble for a couple more days.
12:53Hmm.
12:54You said you were leaving this afternoon.
12:56So why are you still here now?
12:58Oh, that Maurice told me to wait for the chauffeur.
13:01I can't stand that about this house.
13:03What?
13:03There's no bus lines anywhere close.
13:05And even though there's more chauffeurs than a taxi terminal,
13:07I still can't get a ride when I want one.
13:09Well, you decided you had to live way out on that ranch in the wilderness.
13:12My house is not a ranch.
13:14You should consider selling the place, Colette.
13:18All kidding aside, your daughter has told me many times that she would be very happy
13:21if you would decide to sell that place and move in with them here.
13:24Hmm.
13:25No.
13:26I wouldn't be comfortable.
13:27I don't like strangers walking around in my home, you know.
13:30And, oh, French food.
13:31Well, you can keep all that fancy stuff.
13:34You feel the same way, but you always act like you're so superior.
13:37What for?
13:39I still prefer to live with a group of fishermen, for heaven's sakes.
13:43Where is that driver already?
13:45I'm never going to get home at this rate.
13:48Well, yeah, he's got to be around here sooner.
13:51But couldn't she have forgotten about this piece of fabric?
13:54No, she didn't forget about it.
13:56I think she took a piece home to make something nice for me.
14:00I saw that she took a skirt out of mine that matched that fabric.
14:04And she said the blouses they made from it yesterday were so pretty.
14:08Mom is made of gold.
14:10If they try to hurt her, even one hair on her head, I swear I'll burn down that factory.
14:15But why don't you call that Mr. Clemente?
14:19No.
14:21Mr. Clemente is out of the country.
14:29Well, his car is here, but who knows where the driver is.
14:32Look, Colette, there's something I've wanted to ask you.
14:35What's going on between Tony and Layla?
14:38Nothing.
14:39Nothing, nothing.
14:40Only marriage things.
14:41My daughter has her hot temper.
14:43And your son is no angel either.
14:46That's the truth.
14:47But a woman needs a little fire these days.
14:50Your son has too much of your bullheadedness, Martin Clemente.
14:55I look at him and I think of how you handled yourself at his age.
15:00I remember.
15:01Uh-huh.
15:01And I remember they used to call you a traveling Valentino.
15:05The highway heartbreaker, Martin Clemente.
15:08True.
15:10Particularly after what happened with Mercedes Olive Randall.
15:19Colette, let's do one thing here today.
15:22What do you say we leave the dead alone and let them lie in peace?
15:25Yeah.
15:26Letting go of the dead is easy.
15:28Unless there's something you might be trying to bury.
15:30Excuse me.
15:31Good evening, sir.
15:33Hello, Gerald.
15:34Madam Colette.
15:35I'm ready to take you now.
15:36And where have you been?
15:36On a permanent break?
15:37I was having a snack, but I'm ready to go now.
15:39Well, come on.
15:40All right.
15:40And don't take me to the house.
15:42Make sure that you drop me off at least a block away.
15:44No problem.
15:44So that no one will see your fancy uniform or that car or else they'll think I have a lot
15:47of money.
15:48Of course, ma'am.
15:49Goodbye, sir.
15:49Goodbye, Gerald.
15:51Well, Colette, you'll be good now.
15:53Listen, one day perhaps I'll stop by your house and you can save me from all this horrible French cooking
15:58and make me something wonderful.
16:00Okay, I'll hold you to it.
16:03Come on, lady, let's go.
16:05See, I didn't do anything wrong yet.
16:06There's been a complaint filed.
16:08But where are you going to take me in this car?
16:10Get in the car, please.
16:11You're making a terrible mistake here.
16:13Come on, get in the car.
16:13Get in.
16:14What's the news?
16:15It's horrible.
16:16I can't do anything wrong.
16:18Get away from me, will you?
16:20Look, we've got to take you to us.
16:50Mother?
16:51There's a lot of fabric that has been stolen, not scraps, but bolts.
16:54But it wasn't her.
16:55It was you.
16:56Don't you dare treat her though.
16:58You treat my mother.
16:59You have no business in here.
17:01I can't believe it.
17:02It matters.
17:02I'll tell you what I'm going to do.
17:03I'll worry.
17:03Get her out of here.
17:05Get this girl out of here.
17:07Can't you get that crazy girl out?
17:09And here's your crummy fabric.
17:10What makes you think anyone will want to steal that job?
17:12Okay, we're going to take you in.
17:14But I'll be down.
17:15Leave her out.
17:15You might as well stand still.
17:17You want to arrest me?
17:18I'll give you something.
17:18I'm going to give you something to arrest me for.
17:20Don't do it, lady.
17:22I'm just trying to make your job easier.
17:24They give you something to accuse me of.
17:26No!
17:26That's my register!
17:28Come on.
17:28Come on, you spineless woman.
17:29Let's see how brave you are.
17:30Now accuse me of stealing your fabric.
17:32Don't help me!
17:32You cowards!
17:33You don't want to hurt anyone.
17:34Come on and get me, you rotten bullies.
17:36Come on, I dare you.
17:36Come on and get me!
17:37Come on, lady.
17:38Calm down.
17:38You've got to get her out of here.
17:40Come on, she's nuts!
17:41Folks, just stay back.
17:44You want me to leave?
17:45Well, I'm going to leave.
17:45But I've got a couple of things to save.
17:47First, I'm making sure that you'll remember me.
17:51You will look at this place and you will always remember what you did to my mother here.
17:54Because you were guilty and you will never forget.
17:56Because I will never forget!
17:58I'll never forget it!
17:59I promise you!
18:17Wait!
18:18I'm going with you!
18:19Call Benderson!
18:20Why him?
18:21Go get Benderson!
18:21What do we want from Bradley Benderson?
18:23He happens to be the only lawyer we know!
18:24Go look for him!
18:25I don't want to call Benderson now!
18:26Oh, Gabrielle!
18:27He's trying to have his phone out of our house!
18:29Why would he help us now, huh?
18:31Look for him, Julia!
18:33But I don't know where Mr. Benderson lives, Gabrielle!
18:36Ladies and gentlemen, in a few moments we will be approaching the International Airport
18:41of Santa Domingo.
18:43We ask that you fasten your belts and please return your seats to the full and upright position
18:48for landing.
18:48We hope your flight with us has been a pleasant one.
18:56Amanda!
18:57What are you doing here?
18:59Tony!
19:00I had no way to know you were here!
19:01I swear!
19:02I came to get away for a couple of days, but I didn't know that you would be here too!
19:09I... I... I don't believe it.
19:11It's alright, Mama.
19:13It's all over now.
19:14It happened and it's all over.
19:16This is horrible, Gabrielle.
19:18Don't worry.
19:19It'll be cleared up.
19:20You haven't done anything wrong, Mama.
19:22And what possessed you to tell everyone that you took that fabric?
19:25Well, because...
19:26Because what happens to you happens to me.
19:29Aren't we a family?
19:31And then you tell Julia to go find Benderson.
19:33What makes you think he will help us?
19:36Benderson would be happy to put me in jail forever.
19:41Excuse me.
19:43Does Mr. Benderson live here?
19:45Bradley Benderson?
19:47He's probably asleep, though.
19:49You know, it's very late, dear.
19:51Do you think I could speak with him?
19:52Please, it's urgent.
19:53Alright.
19:54That way.
19:55It's the last one on the end.
19:57Mm-hmm.
19:58Mm-hmm.
20:04Mr. Benderson, sir.
20:07Mr. Benderson!
20:08Who is it?
20:09Do you know what time it is?
20:10Mr. Benderson, it's me, Julia.
20:13I'm here because of my mother, Lucille.
20:19It must be that woman burned down my house now.
20:22No, Mr. Benderson.
20:23My mother was arrested tonight, and they also took my sister Gabrielle.
20:26I see.
20:27Well, what is it that your mother did?
20:29With her personality, I wouldn't be surprised if she did something crazy enough to land in hot water.
20:34No, Mr. Benderson.
20:35They took my mother because she has been accused of stealing fabric remnants, and Gabrielle was taken after she showed
20:40up and made a big scene at the factory.
20:43Well, what do you want from me?
20:46Can I come in and talk to you for a minute?
20:48Yes, of course, of course.
20:49I wasn't thinking.
20:50Come in.
20:51But what can I do for you?
20:53I thought you could come to the station.
20:55What?
20:55You're a lawyer, and I thought maybe you would help us.
20:58I should help a woman who uses a broom to throw me out of her house?
21:02No.
21:03She uses a broom to throw me out of a house I own.
21:05No.
21:07We don't know any lawyers other than you, Mr. Benderson.
21:11If that's what you mean by knowing someone.
21:15Well, now I know why you added the word Mr. when you came here.
21:18Mr. Benderson.
21:20Mr. Benderson.
21:21Sure, I'm an attorney.
21:23I'm a lawyer, and you need one.
21:25Now I'm a lawyer.
21:26But last night I was nothing but a big loser, huh?
21:31You aren't going to help us, then?
21:33Come here.
21:33Come here.
21:35Can you hear what's over there?
21:37Can you hear it?
21:38You think that crummy noise sounds anything like Beethoven?
21:41No, huh?
21:42But that's what I have to listen to every night when I try to go to sleep.
21:45That's how I spend every miserable night, and it's all because of your mother.
21:50And now you come here and ask me to go down to the police station for her at one o
21:54'clock in the morning.
21:54Not a chance.
21:59Won't you help us, please?
22:05Yeah, I'll help you and your family.
22:08I'm a sucker for a sad story.
22:11And that's exactly why I haven't gotten anywhere in this life, you see?
22:14I can't say no.
22:15And listen to me.
22:17I'll tell you something.
22:18I'm doing this because Gabrielle is a prisoner, and I'm doing it because of you.
22:24Well, because you asked me to help you out of this mess.
22:29And because I'm a stupid and sentimental lawyer.
22:31And that's the worst.
22:32Sentimental is the worst thing that a lawyer can ever be.
22:37Mwah!
22:38Thanks, Mr. Venderson.
22:46You must be completely exhausted, Gabrielle.
22:58And when did you finally get home?
23:01No.
23:01In the afternoon.
23:04Were you at the car wash?
23:06No.
23:07No?
23:08Mm-hmm.
23:09Then where were you?
23:10Well, I went to the test and...
23:19You went to see him again?
23:23No, Mom.
23:24No?
23:24No.
23:25Why not?
23:28I don't want to talk about it now.
23:36Well, here we are. Together in prison.
23:41This will pass just like everything else. We'll survive.
23:48But, Mama, you still took home that fabric so you could make me a blouse.
23:53Why did you do that?
24:00I really made a mess at this time.
24:04It's just that I saw you in that dress I finished with that lady the other night, you know?
24:09Besides how mad I was when I looked at you.
24:11Ah, you were so beautiful.
24:15Thanks.
24:16Then I went to look and I realized that you don't have any clothes.
24:21Or old rags.
24:26Ah, Raymond.
24:29Why did you die now?
24:33I'm doing such a terrible job. I don't have the strength that I had before. Raymond, where are you?
24:39Oh, no. No, don't. You're great. You do okay?
24:42No.
24:43That whole scandal at the factory was created by Mr. Amaya.
24:47It didn't have anything to do with the remnant at all.
24:51They have suspected that someone's been stealing bolts and bolts of fabric for a long time. Good fabric.
24:57And nobody knew who was stealing at all.
25:00It was probably that terrible woman.
25:04Then yesterday, when I took the remnant, she probably told them I stole them all.
25:09I don't know.
25:11It doesn't matter. It'll be all right.
25:14Tomorrow they'll go to the house. They'll inspect it. They'll turn everything upside down and they'll make a big mess.
25:20And you can be sure they'll check into my credit history, too.
25:23Well, there are no secrets in there. There's only my sewing machine, which I have paid for every month.
25:34What a difficult life.
25:40And you...
25:44You are the one that worries me, my darling.
25:47Well, this is nothing. This'll all go away.
25:52But you...
25:54You are so sad.
25:57So unhappy inside.
26:00I see you hurting so...
26:04For a man that has given you nothing but pain.
26:08This man is trouble, Gabrielle.
26:11No, Mom.
26:13Look, I'm not telling you you have to marry Andrew.
26:16I'm not.
26:17I just want you to look at what you're doing, Gabrielle.
26:24How can I tell you what to do?
26:27Look what's happened to me.
26:30Prison.
26:32My God.
26:35I hate it that you see me here.
26:41Oh, my girl.
26:44I just want you to be happy.
26:47I want to stop all of the things that could ever harm you.
26:52Life is a struggle.
26:54It's heartache.
26:55And pain.
26:57Who'll protect you?
27:02Look at me, Gabrielle.
27:03You can tell me anything.
27:07Oh, well.
27:08Tony Clemente.
27:09You can talk about him to me.
27:11You can tell me your feelings.
27:13You can confide in me.
27:15Tell me about Tony, please.
27:17Oh, Mom.
27:18I don't want to talk about it.
27:25I don't know how to tell you.
27:29It's complicated.
27:32It's just so hard.
27:36And I don't know what's going to happen with him.
27:40I don't know what's going to happen between me and Tony.
27:48Good evening.
27:49Hello.
27:50I have a reservation.
27:51And your name?
27:52Amanda Herrlings.
27:55I found him.
27:57Shh.
27:57You wake her up.
27:58Oh, don't worry about it, Gabrielle.
28:00I'm awake.
28:01What are you doing here, Banderson?
28:04You know, Lucille, that's a very good question you have there.
28:06And I've been asking myself the same thing for over an hour.
28:10You are not necessary here.
28:14Thank you for coming.
28:15How do we get out of this mess?
28:17Look.
28:18One thing.
28:19I'm doing this for you.
28:20I came down here because you asked me.
28:22For no other reason.
28:24Got it?
28:24Wait till you hear what Mr. Benderson did for us.
28:27Come on now.
28:28Tell them.
28:28Julia, I'm talking to Gabrielle right now.
28:31I told you.
28:32As I was telling you.
28:32But he did all this.
28:33Well, we paid a visit to the factory.
28:36It was empty, but we got a number for Amaya.
28:38Uh-huh.
28:38I called him and told him off.
28:41And when he heard my name, he knew I was an attorney and so he lowered his voice.
28:45Then I threatened the man.
28:48With a lawsuit charging defamation and grave injury.
28:53You growl like a lie.
28:55Mother.
29:03Well, then what happened?
29:05Well, then he retracted the accusation he made against you.
29:09Huh?
29:11He took back the accusations?
29:14Can you believe it?
29:15Bradley's the best lawyer in the world.
29:17You know, you're still going to have to come down to the courthouse and make a statement concerning the damage
29:21that was done to the factory.
29:23You tore apart some of their dresses and you threw a cash register.
29:26It isn't as if you're completely innocent.
29:28Oh, no.
29:30It isn't true.
29:31There must be something else that we can do.
29:33Mom, thank Mr. Benderson for his time.
29:41Well, thank you for your time.
29:44Well, it wasn't a murder.
29:46And Mr. Amaya has taken back his accusation.
29:50So that part's over now.
29:52But the one who is not going to let this matter rest is Lucille Swanson because I'm going to see
29:57him hang.
29:58I'm going to the courthouse tomorrow and file a lawsuit because you can't play with people's reputations like that.
30:07Now, why would I have to come if I'm not arrested, huh?
30:11Well, they haven't arrested you for any special crime yet.
30:14It is true.
30:15But we still have to wait for the paperwork to come through.
30:17There's no need to worry.
30:18Excuse me.
30:19Yes?
30:20The captain's ready to speak with you now.
30:38Hello, Andrew.
30:39Hello, Amanda.
30:41When did you get in?
30:43This afternoon.
30:45Andrew, I would appreciate it if you wouldn't tell Tony.
30:50Amanda, I am the pilot for Tony Clemente.
30:54Nothing more.
30:56What you do is your own business.
31:06Then I moved in real close and really let him have it on my eyes.
31:10I swear you have not heard the end of this.
31:12And I don't know about this other business, about making a plea statement.
31:16But we'll handle that, Gabrielle.
31:18Julia, get some eggs.
31:20We'll make something to eat.
31:21Yep.
31:22At least we can give you some food for your trouble.
31:23I wouldn't refuse that.
31:25Well, it really isn't necessary.
31:28Gabrielle, what are you standing around for?
31:30Set the table.
31:31And, Venderson, you tell us how much we lower.
31:34Brother, he hasn't charged us anything.
31:36Well, I don't want any favors, because after that you get into awkward conflicts.
31:41And while we're still on the subject of last night, nothing happened.
31:46If anyone asks us, well, we were out celebrating something of Gabrielle or Julius.
31:53Well, I guess I'd better be going.
31:56At six o'clock my neighbors treat me to a patriotic hymn, you see.
32:00It's just so exhilarating waking up to the national anthem.
32:04I wouldn't want to miss my music.
32:07Hey, Bradley, you are not leaving.
32:09You are joining us for breakfast.
32:10Because what you did is great and doesn't have a price.
32:14No, it has a price.
32:17But I did it out of friendship.
32:18Well, all right then, Mr. Venderson.
32:22Stay if you want.
32:25Uh, thank you very much for all the trouble you went through today.
32:36Hello there. Good morning.
32:38How are you, Nora?
32:40Uh, my son is on vacation, so I thought I'd use his office for some business.
32:44Fine, but actually it's a miracle you found me here,
32:47because your son gave me the day off and I'm spending it with my sister.
32:51Diana, this is Martin Clemente, my boss's dad.
32:54A pleasure to meet you, I'm sure.
32:56Nice to meet you.
32:57Nora, I'd like you to go with me for a moment to Tony's office,
33:00so you can show me how some of the equipment in there works.
33:03For example, the telephone with all the buttons and fancy features that I've never learned to operate.
33:08And the bar.
33:09Now, how will I ever get any work done if I don't know where the bar is?
33:12Don't worry about it, Mr. Clemente.
33:14I'll explain everything thoroughly to you before I leave.
33:17And there's a secretary coming at 8 o'clock.
33:19She'll have very little work since your son's not coming in.
33:22All right. I'll wait for her in the office.
33:24Excuse me.
33:26Sure.
33:26Look, Diana, if the phone rings, answer it for me, will you?
33:30Okay, no problem.
33:30Oh, well, we'll wait for the secretary and then we'll leave.
33:34Oh, and push number six to get the telephone.
33:38Okay.
33:38Finally, I was able to make the coffee.
33:40So forgive me, no?
33:42No, no, no, on the contrary.
33:44I admire you, Lucille.
33:45You're one of those people who do everything, and you're a good cook.
33:48I don't know how you do it.
33:50Thanks.
33:53Gabrielle.
33:53Huh?
33:54You didn't eat anything.
33:55Here, I saved you some.
33:57Eat.
33:57Uh, thanks anyway, but I'm just not hungry, I'm just not.
34:00Oh, I forgot to tell you, surprise, surprise, they connected the phone.
34:05Oh, that's great, Mom.
34:08When?
34:09Well, I guess it had to be while I was having my discussion with Mr. Benderson.
34:15Yeah, and that should prove to you that Mr. Benderson can bring good luck to the Swanson family, huh?
34:21Mm-hmm.
34:23Mm-hmm.
34:23And where are you going?
34:25I'm gonna call Nelly.
34:41Hello?
34:43Please, Mr. Clemente.
34:45Y-yes.
34:46I'd like to leave a message for Mr. Clemente.
34:51Would you please take this number for him to call me?
34:54Oh, that's not necessary.
34:56Mr. Clemente is in his office this afternoon.
34:58Are you certain Mr. Clemente is working?
35:03Ah, I see.
35:08No, no message.
35:10I told them that we would see, you know?
35:13Yeah.
35:14What's going on?
35:15I'm going out.
35:15Where are you going?
35:16I'm going.
35:17Gabrielle?
35:18Let's go to the East Pavilion, all right?
35:21Okay, fine.
35:22We can take my car.
35:24Uh-huh.
35:41Mr. Clemente.
35:42Right there.
35:42Who should I...
35:43No one.
35:46Don't you think it's a little childish to tell me such a lie?
35:50Excuse me?
36:00Excuse me?
36:05Uh, excuse me.
36:08I thought I...
36:10Ah.
36:10I suppose you thought you were talking to someone else.
36:14Please excuse me.
36:16And I suppose the other person you were talking to was my son.
36:20Your son?
36:22Yes, I'm Tony's father.
36:23And I'm sorry to have to be the one to inform you that he's not here right now.
36:27Tony's in Santo Domingo.
36:30I hope you'll excuse me and forget what I said.
36:33No, no, forget it.
36:34And I will assure you, I haven't the vaguest recollection of hearing one word you said.
36:41Well, then I'll be leaving, Mr.
36:44Clemente, of course, my dear.
36:46Martin Clemente, the father of the person you were hoping to find here.
36:50Listen, won't you have some coffee?
36:52I can get it right away.
36:54Tony always has to have everything, all the newest gadgets that they make.
36:58All I have to do is push these two buttons.
37:01Up comes coffee for two.
37:03Oh, no, thanks.
37:05Well, it seems to me that you're kind of nervous.
37:09Have a seat.
37:09No, Mr. Clemente.
37:12Well, all right then.
37:14Look, at least I'd like to thank you very much for having brightened my day.
37:20Perhaps you would let me take you to the, uh, cafeteria for breakfast.
37:25No, no, thank you.
37:26Thank you, really.
37:27And I hope that you can, uh, forget the whole thing.
37:30Forget it.
37:30Goodbye, Mr. Clemente.
37:38Oh!
37:39Excuse me.
37:40No.
37:41Why didn't you listen?
37:42Excuse me.
37:43I'm sorry.
37:43Why?
37:48That girl was just looking for Tony.
37:51You know her.
38:13No.
38:25I'm sorry.
38:27No.
38:28No, no.
38:30No.
38:30No.
38:31No.
38:34No.
38:36No.
38:38Oh, no.
38:43Good morning miss. I am Tony Clemente. How can I help you Mr. Clemente? I would like to make an
38:48international call. Uh-huh. And here's the number. Would you like the call transferred to your room? No, no, please.
38:56Look, my wife is trying to sleep and I don't want to disturb her. Um, can you have it put
39:01through here? Yes, of course. We can do that for you, Mr. Clemente. And where should we charge the call?
39:06To you? Perfect, just perfect. Can you call now? Yes, of course.
39:11And who should the telephone operator ask for? Uh, pardon me. Uh, that number he'll get my chauffeur. His name's
39:19Gerald. Ask for Gerald. Perfect. You know, Mr. Clemente, someone asked for you last night. I wasn't working, so I
39:29couldn't tell you what it was all about, but let's see, what did they tell me? Oh yes, they said
39:33it was a woman, but that's all they said. Probably wasn't important. Okay.
39:43Good morning. Breakfast, please. Oh no, I'm not ordering for myself this morning. I'd like it to be delivered to
39:52Mr. Tony Clemente. It's a surprise.
39:56Uh, okay. Uh, two eggs. Yes, boiled for two minutes and half a grapefruit. But listen carefully. This part's special
40:11and very important.
40:13The grapefruit must go into the oven and then caramel must be poured all over the top so that it
40:20melts down into it real good, huh? On the top.
40:25Uh-huh. Yes, that's how you do it. Also, orange juice mixed with carrot juice and toast with orange marmalade
40:36on the side. Uh-huh. It's very important. It's for Mr. Tony Clemente.
40:44Wait a minute. I'll get his suite number for you. Ah, you know it then. Well, that's great. And this
40:51is a surprise. So please, don't mention this call.
