00:00these games matter now so otherwise not today because there is actual news but otherwise salad
00:06be ready to go on i mean they are opening a new stadium it will be kind of cool to
00:09try to predict or imagine who they're going to play yeah for sure um they have there's certainly
00:17a several choices would be a great opening game uh night game i think you know the nfl does like
00:23to highlight the new stadiums uh early on we know that would it be maybe week one or week two
00:27i think
00:28week two is very likely because you get week one the other games they can highlight plus an extra
00:32week to get the stadium ready so to speak um i had chris emma on today from our sister station
00:38in
00:38chicago the score and i said what do you think bears at bills prime time he said yeah that sounds
00:42good
00:42that sounds right so you know he was he was all aboard of maybe bears bills prime time game this
00:46year the schedule is great almost everybody's good you know it won't be the dolphins well it could be
00:51a team like that because of the history but really everybody almost everybody on the schedule just not
00:57dolphins or jets is a really interesting matchup this year all right well we did end up getting
01:02some of that in anyway um four players released today you've been asked a few times on different
01:07shows what might be a surprise cut um i don't i don't think there is one here maybe terran johnson
01:15comes the closest but not you're not going to tell me that it's that surprising i think no not that
01:20surprising i think that considering the affinity for the player what he's been to the organization
01:26um i think that there would always be a willingness or a want to maybe try and work it out
01:30some way
01:31this though as i think we talked about the combine after hearing from brandon bean it was clear
01:36this move was not about terran johnson the player this move is about the defense like he just kind
01:41of doesn't fit anymore mike you know what i mean and you're paying him a lot of money now i
01:45think the
01:45rub here is well you're only saving a little bit by releasing him really you know two million dollars
01:50less than that but it is two million dollars and you can use that the pushback i got today from
01:55people or at least you know that i saw from people was well why the heck didn't you make it
01:59a post june
01:59one cut now let me explain the way post june one cuts work for people because i think there is
02:03some
02:03confusion you designate a player a post june one cut right now when you release them and he is
02:10automatically a free agent it doesn't mean he's on your team until june 1st but the reason you do it
02:14is
02:15you can't you save more money you save more money uh by doing it that way so it counts kind
02:20of as a
02:21cut for next year but you have to spread the dead cap hit over two years so you save way
02:25more money
02:25they would have saved like eight million dollars by doing it post june one the difference is you
02:29don't get to keep you don't get to use that money until june 1st so the bills get two million
02:33dollars
02:33to use now in free agency versus waiting till june 1st to have eight million dollars open up i understand
02:38people who would think that that would be the better option but they clearly need to have room to
02:44operate and felt this was the better course of action and take the dead cap hit right now
02:49man i would love to have that choice for myself in real life take two million dollars today or wait
02:54probably longer than a couple months that'd be easy to say yes to if i know i'm gonna have eight
02:58million dollars on june 1st i would definitely pick that uh well obviously real quick but obviously
03:04march 11th is free agency by june 1st there's really no no i know he has dried up and and
03:09and and
03:10but we also have been in situations mike where you've seen they they did sign i
03:14think leonard floyd after june 1st couple years ago and they've needed money to make trades the
03:18last couple years they didn't have where that could come into play so i understand both sides
03:22to it here from fans yeah me too i'm just imagining i'm daydreaming thinking of a brewster's million
03:26situation where if i i could take some money now but i could win a lot more if i'm just
03:30patient
03:31uh what is it two what's the what's the food in the game where it's i'm losing my mind here
03:37a kid has
03:38what the marshmallows is it marshmallows okay thank you for bailing me out one now or two later
03:43mm-hmm that's right anyway i think that's it um curtis samuel let's wait let's wait on curtis
03:50samuel rap and even dane jackson while we're in the secondary yeah um rap is also no surprise
03:57no that's one i've been telling you guys for a while that i would expect along with samuel which
04:02we'll get to those are the two that the two main guys i felt all along like yeah they're gonna
04:06move
04:06on from them are taylor rap and curtis samuel just because of what you save and what really
04:11where it's gone with them i guess with the organization so uh taylor rap moves on but now
04:15you you do have to find another safety excuse me another safety here next to cole bishop um
04:22you know jordan hancock could be an option there we haven't talked a lot about him but
04:26you know he didn't he had a pretty uneven rookie year but so did cole bishop so maybe he becomes
04:29somebody they do have wanday owens under contract who's a a nice athletic guy from college but it's
04:34not somebody you would think would move the needle but i have heard nice things about him
04:37but i think other than that you're looking at okay what do they do at safety here is that somebody
04:41you get in free agency is that somebody that you draft so i think taylor rap's you know release kind
04:45of does bring that even more into question dane jackson's interesting i didn't even have dane
04:51jackson on their roster but then i revisited and say wait a minute the reason why he's on the roster
04:54is
04:55they signed him after the regular season last year this regular season was was over they needed him
05:01or right at the end of the year whatever it was they had to have him i think it was
05:04right when
05:05the playoff started because they had so many injuries and they could only elevate two players
05:09they actually signed him to the active roster and by doing that they gave him a one-year deal which
05:14is this year so now they get to get rid of him i guess and um you know clear that
05:19clear the money
05:201.2 million dollars for him samuel man i liked this player when he was younger they signed him the
05:27bills going into his age 28 season so he'd been in the league seven years as it happens at that
05:33point
05:33and it just never got off the ground um he's kind of he's not alone in this but he's kind
05:40of a an
05:40example a poster child of where the bills have gone wrong i would say at receiver some of its luck
05:47i mean he got hurt before his first season right in pittsburgh uh but still like 45 catches in 24
05:55games
05:55including playoffs did not cut it it didn't work out so well and you know this is a player that
06:03the bills brought in in part because joe brady worked with him in carolina and had success with
06:09him and that's right and that's something we're talking about now with joe brady working with dj
06:14more and you know people want to revisit and say wait a minute well that didn't work out so well
06:18when you brought in curtis samuel totally get it you know but injuries were a part of that and
06:22it just felt like curtis samuel wasn't the kind of guy you know everything i heard i had chris emma
06:27on today from the score in chicago and i asked him actually about sam i remember you yesterday i was
06:32listening to you and you brought up how you brought it with me how a couple questions about you know
06:36maybe um running routes or you know not finishing plays or something like that and you know chris collins
06:43we're talking about more yeah dj more and i actually brought that up to chris emma chris emma said
06:48listen that was one time it was a miscommunication collinsworth made a really big deal out of it he
06:53actually brought up the point of multiple times throughout the season that dj more went to the
06:58medical tent and came out and came back in and played like he is a gamer he wants to play
07:02he wants
07:02to be on the field he is not like that at all so just like that was his perspective of
07:06covering him
07:06and the reason i bring this up is curtis samuel always felt to me like a guy that if he
07:11was a little
07:11banged up he was unavailable you know what i mean like it was just something where not necessarily
07:14chronically injured but maybe not fighting through a lot of things and it seemed like maybe
07:18things just kept happening and piling up and it never was where he really was that same guy who
07:24wanted to push through everything interesting i'll i'll uh defer to you on that i was listening this
07:30morning to that interview and you even got some hockey in so it's that those are the scenes right
07:34now those are the scenes even when sal's talking to a bears guy it's also going to include a thing
07:39on
07:39the blackhawks which i get uh sal capaccio on the west her hotline and like that's the the four cuts
07:47i talked to sam panijatovich earlier today while we're doing this and he said like what i asked him
07:53what's your what's your version of dj more's reputation in chicago not that he lives there anymore
08:00but those two guys are always talking about the bears joe ostrowski lives in chicago and he said all
08:05good things also sal like he he said um a lot of the same stuff you were just relaying to
08:11uh to me
08:12so i i don't want to i i don't want to make more out of it than than this but
08:20it is part of the story
08:22you know on more like just even if it is a couple of isolated things that come to mind it
08:28is like digs
08:29to me where when digs was acquired oh wow well look at the route the technique and you don't know
08:37how
08:37good he is so there was that but there were just sort of like what what went wrong in minnesota
08:43like
08:43why was there this this drama and whatever else and what did we get we got elite level production for
08:51a
08:51few years and then we got drama from from dig so really i don't know if it's fair to think
08:58of the
08:58two the same way but um that's what comes to my mind is it's it's familiar talking about dj more
09:05how
09:05good is he really that's what we did with digs and are there anything are there other things i have
09:10to
09:10think about i get it yeah and you know i guess um you know like i said to you yesterday
09:17you're gonna
09:17have to be really comfortable with those answers when you start asking and you look into it and if
09:22joe brady and brandon bean have looked into it as much as they should and i would trust they would
09:26in
09:27this situation by giving up a second rounder then they got to be in in the money that comes along
09:31with
09:31it however it's diced up you're still a lot of money there you got to be really comfortable with the
09:35player you're getting and the character you're getting and the lack of the drama and all that kind of
09:40stuff um but you know it's funny he is as i said yesterday with you and we talked about
09:45he he is like the number one guy in the bills but i don't consider him like a true number
09:49one
09:49he's kind of you know in that that next tier below i guess maybe so i still think they could
09:54add to
09:54the position you know and i don't know if that means i i can't see him getting like that true
09:58elite number one to go out and you know trade for that but i still think they could add to
10:02more of
10:02the top end of the depth chart in some capacity than the bottom end actually i'll say this too it
10:08it's
10:08also amari cooper for me when the bills got him because i'm okay well he's he's had some
10:14blow up games in a good way for the browns and over the course of his career but i also
10:20never
10:21forgot when i watched him play one game for dallas against new england he was the coldest he looked
10:26the coldest of any person i'd ever seen in my entire life where they've got that pouch and his
10:32hands like were so deep into his pouch like i don't know it's that's all of this is a little
10:37bit
10:37unfair but that's what i thought of when it was amari cooper season around here okay uh thanks for
10:43finding some time for me today have a great weekend all right you too mike thanks a lot
