Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase are joined by Buffalo Bills beat reporter Sal Capaccio to preview the Bills divisional matchup with the New England Patriots on Sunday. The guys start by discussing the tough spot the Patriots find themselves in, and why this is such a huge game for them to win. Then they discuss some of the injuries both teams are facing headed into the game, and Sal lays out why the Patriots have a much more concerning injury report.
Transcript
00:00Sal Capaccio to join us here on the Western Hotline
00:03as we get ready for Bills and Patriots.
00:05Happy Football Friday, everybody.
00:06Jeremy and Joe.
00:08And we'll get to the injury report.
00:09We'll check in.
00:10Maybe get Sal's thoughts on the Sabres game last night, you know.
00:14I think I agree with something you said in the break.
00:15I do really like those Browns uniforms.
00:17Yeah, they're just on TV.
00:19They look better.
00:20They've got contrast.
00:22Yeah.
00:22The Browns are 3-1, Sal, just like everybody drew it up.
00:27Yeah, I saw a good tweet from Josh Reed last night.
00:30He said the Browns right now have – let me get it exactly how he wrote it,
00:34which is kind of funny.
00:35The Browns have more wins than the Texans, Patriots, Chargers, and Rams combined.
00:41Wow.
00:42Crazy.
00:42And last night we got the – I think the clip of Rodgers yelling at McCarthy
00:47and then McCarthy saying what he said is one of my favorite clips of the year.
00:50It did lead me to a hole in my head, rabbit hole.
00:53He is such a jerk.
00:54What does Aaron Rodgers think his season is supposed to be, you know?
00:58Yeah.
00:58That's kind of my thought.
01:00Whatever.
01:01We can get to that.
01:02But the Sabres last night, Sal, tough one for them.
01:05They lose in Columbus, but good to have hockey back.
01:07And, you know, tomorrow night the home opener, packed barn,
01:11get things on the right track.
01:13Yeah, for sure.
01:14I mean, it sucked last night.
01:16I mean, I'm sitting there.
01:17I was at Brightsmith for a watch party, had a good crowd.
01:20People came up, said hi, watched the game, started off great,
01:25get a nice goal, start the game.
01:26Like, all right, here we go.
01:271-0, Matias Samuelson.
01:28And then, man, to let three in before the end of the first period was pretty
01:31deflating.
01:32And then I'm thinking, jeez, you know, already four goals,
01:34not even midway through the game here.
01:38It felt to me – I really felt at a couple of points they were going to come
01:41back.
01:41Like, they're going to tie the game.
01:43They're going to win.
01:43And it just was the same old story, the power play.
01:46I mean, you cannot – was 0-5 the final count on the power play?
01:51You just can't do that and win games.
01:54And it's full two-minute, five-on-three.
01:56So, to your point, though, hey, I mean, it's one game.
01:59They haven't won an opener in, like, four years.
02:02We know there's 84 of these now.
02:04And then you come home and you play a team that you should be better than
02:07in your home arena.
02:09Off of the season you had last year, it's going to be packed.
02:12It's super energetic.
02:13I'll be there.
02:14I'm guessing you guys might be there.
02:15It's going to be really fun and cool.
02:17We'll both be there.
02:17I wonder how nervous the energy would get if they get down, like,
02:201-0 in the first.
02:21You know, everybody's really excited for the season.
02:24Whatever.
02:24We all just want to see them continue to be as good as they were last year.
02:28And does that mean they have to win the division?
02:30No, not necessarily.
02:31Just, you know, pick it up.
02:33Show us that the kids are still here, that the organization's in good hands.
02:36And I think we're all eager to see that.
02:38So, that'll be tomorrow at home against the Blackhawks.
02:40And, of course, the Bills and Patriots on Sunday from Highmark Stadium.
02:44Looking like a relatively nice day.
02:46And a big matchup in the division.
02:47Sal, one thing I heard maybe on the afternoon show or yesterday we mentioned
02:51that's interesting, that the Patriots' three games so far this year
02:55are against the three teams that they play that the Bills don't.
02:59Yeah.
03:00That's right.
03:00What a little note there, right?
03:01Like, we won't see the Bills against the Jaguars or Steelers or Seahawks.
03:05Those are their three different games.
03:07And from here on out, every game they play is against the team that the Bills
03:11will also play.
03:13So, go ahead.
03:16That's a very, very interesting note, I agree.
03:20And when you look at last year where the teams finished, it's these three games
03:25that the Patriots already played.
03:26Seahawks, Pittsburgh, Steelers, Jaguars.
03:29And because they finished in first and the Bills finished in second,
03:33theoretically, they're supposed to have a harder schedule.
03:35Although, you know, it could be very, you know, razor thin there.
03:37But I think most people felt going in, well, the Bills actually have the harder
03:41schedule because the Steelers won the division and the Ravens didn't.
03:45And the Texans finished in second.
03:47But the Jags won the division.
03:48But that turns out to be, look, look what the Jags were able to do.
03:51They are a very good team still.
03:52And then the other one was Rams and Seahawks.
03:54Because the Bills got the team, the Rams, that are this prohibitive favorite
03:58going into the season with this dream team they've assembled.
04:01But it didn't turn out that way, right?
04:03You could make an argument of all of these.
04:06I still think the Ravens are better than the Steelers.
04:08But you could say the Jags are better than the Texans.
04:10You could say the Seahawks are better than the Rams.
04:12I don't know.
04:13And the Patriots did not take care of those games like maybe they thought they
04:17would or should or could.
04:19They're one and two.
04:20So, the Bills crossovers are the Rams.
04:23Haven't played yet.
04:24The Ravens haven't played yet.
04:26And the Texans, and they're one and O now.
04:27And I do think there's something, too, like those three games,
04:31the difference in record could matter.
04:33Yeah.
04:33The other thing about the first three games, Sal, is when you're this early on
04:37in the season, who you play can totally skew where you rank in things.
04:40Yes.
04:41And New England is top ten right now defensively.
04:44EPA per rush, EPA per pass.
04:45Their defensive numbers look great so far.
04:48But do you feel like that's who they are?
04:51Because the first two games, one was against a backup quarterback and then the
04:55Steelers.
04:55And then they run into Jacksonville and they get hammered.
04:58So, do you feel like we have a good sense maybe of how good their defense is?
05:03I'm not sure it's as good as, you know, again, top ten in both categories.
05:08Yeah.
05:08I mean, they gave up, though.
05:09Again, if you go back to look at their Jaguars game, they gave up 137 yards
05:14rushing.
05:15They were, you look at Tootin and Rodriguez together, were both over four and a half
05:20yards a carry.
05:20And Tootin was close to five yards a carry.
05:22And then Trevor Lawrence got loose a little bit.
05:24So, I mean, those numbers look good.
05:26But I also think it's because their other two games, I have to go back and look and
05:30see.
05:30Yep.
05:30See, it looked like they did a nice job in week one against the Seahawks and the
05:33Steelers couldn't run.
05:34So, I also think it's one of those deals where if you have one really good game or one
05:38really bad game, it could always skew your stats very early in the season.
05:41So, I'm not really sure.
05:42I do think that they're, you know, they're a well-coached defense.
05:45And I think they're a good defense.
05:47But I'm not so sure exactly, you know, if those numbers translate.
05:51Just like on the Bills' side, a lot of things, numbers that might necessarily translate through
05:55three games.
05:56Well, and we'll get to the Bills' injury report here, too.
05:58But, like, a huge part of their defense is two guys that are not practicing, right?
06:02Gonzalez and Barmore.
06:03Yeah.
06:04Yeah.
06:05And it's really interesting because, I mean, if you would, I think we probably talked about
06:09this yesterday.
06:09I was not with you guys yesterday, but I know, like, I anticipated after Wednesday,
06:14oh, well, you'll still get at least Gonzalez, and you should get Barmore, too.
06:17The only one would be Morgan Moses, I thought.
06:19Okay, he's probably trending towards not playing.
06:21Just kind of reading the tea leaves and seeing what's going on there and reading some of their
06:24reporters.
06:25And then none of them practice again.
06:27And I think that raises your eyebrows a little bit.
06:30Now, that said, look, Christian Gonzalez knows their system.
06:34They can basically just, you know, throw him out on the field.
06:36He'll be fine.
06:37He's also a really great player.
06:38So, that might be exactly what they do.
06:41Barmore is an interesting case.
06:42You know, this is a young man who came back from the blood clots that he had a couple of
06:45years ago.
06:46I'm not really sure exactly what, you know, they're feeling like his situation is right
06:50now.
06:51And then, and then, and he has a shoulder, and that's two days in a row with a shoulder,
06:55and you're right.
06:55And apparently, according to Mike Girardi yesterday, he was out showing the Bulldog.
06:59Like, he also hasn't been playing great when he's been out there.
07:02And then you have Reggie Gilliam on the other side of the ball, and of course, the return
07:06to Buffalo.
07:08And he was limited on Wednesday and then not practicing on Thursday.
07:11I'm wondering if something happened to him on their Wednesday practice with a knee.
07:15And then while we're on their injury report, what do you make of the Drake May showing
07:19up, and he's full participant, but he's now being listed, and it's with the right
07:22shoulder thing?
07:24I think this is a bit bizarre, although we did get a little clarification yesterday
07:28from Josh McDaniels, apparently.
07:31So, when I saw this, I'm like, wait a minute.
07:34This is, I don't know if I've seen this very much before, if ever, which is, let's take
07:39the whole picture here, guys.
07:43The Patriots play three games where people are like, there's something wrong with Drake
07:46May's arm.
07:47Like, people just believe that, right?
07:49Like, there's got to be something wrong.
07:50He's floating balls.
07:51He doesn't look the same.
07:52There's got to be something.
07:53And the Patriots are like, no, no, there's nothing wrong with him.
07:55Nothing wrong with him.
07:56He hasn't said anything.
07:58They haven't said anything.
07:58They've kind of denied it every step, but your eyes tell you there might be something
08:02wrong.
08:03Then suddenly, after the third game, he shows up on the injury report right shoulder.
08:09Like, oh, see?
08:10Something is wrong.
08:11But wait a minute.
08:12You've been telling us it's not.
08:13So now you're telling us there is?
08:15So what, did something happen in the game suddenly on Sunday?
08:18That didn't happen.
08:19But guess what?
08:20Josh McDaniel said that yesterday.
08:21Apparently, Josh McDaniel said whatever he's dealing with his right shoulder happened on
08:26Sunday against the Jaguars.
08:27I just think, I don't know.
08:28I honestly just don't know what to believe coming out of there right now.
08:31Let's be honest with you.
08:31The one thing that we know, and this is just kind of how these injury reports work, right,
08:35is, that should just mean he's getting treatment on it, right?
08:39Yes, that's correct.
08:40Okay.
08:40Yeah, he's a full participant.
08:42I mean, something happening with his shoulder where they're treating it to some degree,
08:45but he's still doing, he's taking all of his normal team reps during practice.
08:50So, but to list the shoulder after all the talk and you denying that there's anything
08:56wrong, that was the only thing that made sense to me was, well, then you have to say
09:01he got injured on Sunday in the game because otherwise you're telling us there was something
09:06wrong the whole time while you were telling us there was nothing wrong.
09:08And sure enough, that's what they did is say, oh yeah, it happened during the game.
09:11And I'm not even sure if he said what specific play.
09:13He just said it happened in the game.
09:15Right.
09:16Sal Capaccio, the injury report, we're talking injuries, Barnes Firm injury report brought
09:21to you by the Barnes Firm.
09:22If you've been injured in a car crash, call the Barnes Firm, 1-800-8-Million.
09:26Thinking about the bills here and Christian Benford, the toe injury who did not practice.
09:30You know, Sal, people worry a little bit about what they would look like without Benford,
09:34who has been a very strong piece of their defense for years.
09:37Maybe he's not having his best year to this point, but of all the teams to match up against,
09:42I mean, New England's receiver core minus A.J.
09:44Brown.
09:45I mean, I feel like the bills might have the secondary to keep up just fine.
09:49I mean, it's Romeo Dobbs.
09:50It's not going well for those, for them, Matt Collins, Pop Douglas, Kyle Williams, like
09:54that, that's, that's what you're looking at in the secondary.
09:57So of all the teams to match up against, maybe without your number one corner, I feel like
10:01the test is not that big.
10:03Yeah.
10:03I think that, you know, after the first two games, this is kind of what we said after what
10:07happened against Nico Collins, what happened against Amon Ross St. Brown with Christian
10:10Benford specifically was look, he's had, he's had tough matchups and you're going to go
10:14against teams where those are matchups aren't going to be as tough.
10:16They might not even have number one receivers that you want him on all the time.
10:20So things should get better.
10:21Now, suddenly he might not play, right?
10:24So let's just kind of go through it.
10:26He has not practiced for two straight days.
10:28He's the only player on the team who hasn't practiced for two straight days.
10:31Christian Benford.
10:32That doesn't mean that he's automatically unavailable Sunday, but it's certainly looking
10:35less and less likely as you go on this week.
10:38Now, last week, Keon Coleman didn't practice for a couple of days.
10:40He wound up playing on Sunday.
10:42So that could happen.
10:43Maybe he's out there today.
10:43Christian Benford.
10:44We'll see about that.
10:45Speaking of Keon Coleman, he was back on the practice field yesterday.
10:49After missing on Wednesday, he was limited with the ankle injury.
10:53Um, you have TJ Sanders actually returning to practice after the appendectomy.
10:59He had missed Wednesday as well as missing last week, as you guys know, but he returned.
11:02So the, and then Sam Franklin missed with personal reasons.
11:04So the only player on the team who's missing because of an injury is Christian Benford.
11:09Now to go to what you said, Jeremy, that's right.
11:11I, so what do you do now?
11:12And I like what, I like what Jim Leonard said about IGB, which is we've all seen, he's gone
11:18in and he's done some nice things.
11:19He looked good.
11:20I thought he looked good last week.
11:21And the fact is you don't want to play guys simply because you have to play them, right?
11:26You want to play them because you feel comfortable because you've seen them play.
11:29And that's IGB, which is he's been on the field.
11:32He's gotten reps.
11:33He went in last week.
11:34He played in week one.
11:35He played in week two.
11:36I think the bills are very comfortable putting IGB and Max Harrison on the field, especially
11:42like you said, Jeremy, against maybe a team that you're not facing the most world beaters
11:46beating wide receivers.
11:47But that being said, Matt Collins is having a nice year to start off, you know, 12 catches,
11:52156 yards.
11:53To me, this is about their running backs and their tight ends and their passing game.
11:57It's not necessarily about the receivers and corners, but I also think what do you do if
12:02you're the bills of Christian Benford doesn't play?
12:03Do you elevate to Corey couch again?
12:07Because you only have two outside corners or guys is can I Walker going to see his first
12:12jersey in the NFL, even before a guy like Skylar Bell, maybe, which would be interesting,
12:17right?
12:18Right, right.
12:19How, um, by the way, Sanders, like limited at practice, if he were to be ready by Sunday,
12:25or I guess this could be a question for whenever he's ready, do you have an idea of like who
12:29would come out for him?
12:32I don't.
12:33Um, I mean, I don't know exactly.
12:35My guess is maybe Greg Gaines.
12:37Okay.
12:38But I don't know for sure, Joey, it feels like he's been used less and the, the emergence
12:43of Dion Walker, I'm sorry, Dwayne Carter, Dwayne Walker has already emerged.
12:48Yeah.
12:48The emergence of Dwayne Carter probably is why I would go there.
12:53I mean, you know, if you asked this three weeks ago, we might go, oh yeah, when he comes
12:56back or when he had the epinectomy and we didn't know anything about the season, you
13:00might guess, you know, right away, Dwayne Carter.
13:02I mean, heck people had this guy not making the team.
13:04He's played well though.
13:05He's been a big part of what they're doing right now.
13:07So I can't see it taking him out of the lineup.
13:10Um, I think it just might be TJ Sanders, but your, your question is if he does play, right.
13:16I don't know if they would put him on the field yet though.
13:17You might give him another week.
13:19I mean, he just got back.
13:19He had the epinectomy.
13:21My thought is you wait another week.
13:23You make sure he's healthy.
13:24He's strong enough.
13:25You go with what you have.
13:26But if you do play him because you want to play him, I think to me, Greg Gaines, it could
13:30be Landon Jackson.
13:31That's a good question.
13:32I don't know.
13:33I'm curious in there and I'm curious about what happens at the corner spot.
13:36If Christian Benford can't go, you can't go into a game with two boundary corners.
13:40All right.
13:42Sal Capaccio on the Western hotline, head of bills, Patriots.
13:45What else, Sal?
13:46Did we get to everything?
13:47I mean, it's a big game in the division, of course, and it's going to feel like if
13:52the bills win it, it's over.
13:53I mean, yeah, I know.
13:55Right.
13:55And I hate saying, I agree with you.
13:57I hate thinking that way because we just know that this is football and anything can happen.
14:00Right.
14:00And I just keep going back to last year, guys, which is the bills were four and oh, the Patriots
14:08were two and two in this exact same situation presented in itself.
14:12You had a chance to bury them, go three games up on them.
14:15It didn't do it.
14:16And then you lose the next week at Atlanta and the rest of the year, you're like looking
14:21up at them in the standings.
14:22And you're right, Jeremy.
14:23If you win this game, you can flip that script.
14:25You can do that.
14:26And I agree with you.
14:27And I do think that can happen.
14:28But it's the NFL.
14:30You want to, you know, Joe Brady, his response when he was asked about that this week, he's
14:34like, I don't give a damn about that.
14:35It's about going one and oh.
14:36And it is, right?
14:37You always want to keep the main thing, the main thing, as they say, right?
14:41And that is winning this game.
14:42It doesn't matter who it's against.
14:44But I think there's certainly, there's obviously a recognition by the players, the coaches.
14:48I mean, Deion Dawkins is on the radio, which opened the Bulldogs saying, it's a division
14:51game.
14:52You got to take care of your division games.
14:53They all know that.
14:54I'd also say that, look, I think there's also a recognition inside one Bill's drive that
15:00this is the team that took their crown away last year, the division crown.
15:03And then they went to the Super Bowl.
15:05Like, they want to win the division.
15:07They know that winning the division is your first step in getting home field and trying
15:11to get through the AFC.
15:12And that didn't happen last year.
15:14And that is a, you know, something that I think bothers them intrinsically.
15:19Like, you got to go out there and make sure this week, this time it doesn't happen.
15:23And you could really put this team down a little bit.
15:26And then Mike Vrabel crumpled up a piece of paper that said Joe Brady on it.
15:29We're bringing that back.
15:30We're bringing that back, Sal.
15:31You guys can bring it back.
15:32I do, I feel it's always my duty to say, I was literally sitting right there and it
15:37was, it was a joke.
15:39It was tongue in cheek.
15:41It was fun.
15:42They had fun with it, but he did do it.
15:43But he did do it.
15:44That's fine.
15:44We're going to have fun.
15:45He did.
15:46He grabbed it.
15:47He crumpled it.
15:47He threw it at him.
15:48And then they kind of laughed at it.
15:49And it was like, okay.
15:50And I'm going to laugh when the bills put 50 on them.
15:52And then their TikTok accounts are crumpling up like Vrabel.
15:56We're going to laugh about it.
15:5750 burger on the Patriots.
15:59Hey, I'm with you.
16:00I just, you know, it's so funny.
16:02I know I went on with Joe Marino this week on his lockdown podcast.
16:05And he said the same thing.
16:07We had the same discussion.
16:08I said, I just feel like I should tell everybody.
16:09Like, you know, it, it, it, it wasn't like this super like, oh my God, I'm going to crumple
16:14it up.
16:14Cause I hate this guy because it sounds like, and it's a great story and I'm sorry, I don't
16:18mean to be the Debbie downer here, the party poop or whatever.
16:21Right.
16:21And, but I just think it's got to have the context, but it, it did happen and it was
16:26kind of interesting when it happened.
16:27And that's just, you know, I don't know, but I, I don't, and I don't know, like their,
16:31I think we did ask Joe and I have to go back and listen to that, but about like their
16:34backstory relationship at all, other than, you know, knowing each other through
16:38the league, so yeah, I don't really know.
16:40It's kind of interesting.
16:41Yeah.
16:42All right.
16:42So thanks.
16:43And then what else you got?
16:44I got baseball, right?
16:45I mean, Yankees are through.
16:46Yeah.
16:47Yankees are through.
16:48Who are they playing next?
16:50Well, they get the rays, the rays and that is tomorrow night.
16:56So tomorrow night, the rays six 30 and the rays are just a thorn in the side.
17:02I will say though, the Yankees have played better the last like series or two against them.
17:06And they started actually like winning games against them where the rays would, the rays
17:11are this team.
17:11I said, I joked a couple of weeks ago, like I can't name a guy on their team now.
17:15Yes.
17:15They have really good players in their team, but the point is like, they're just this
17:18collection of really good baseball players who just keep winning.
17:21Is, uh, is the game in Tampa Bay?
17:23It is.
17:24Yes.
17:24I don't think I can watch a game in that.
17:26It's still Tropicana field, right?
17:28Yeah, it is.
17:29They know over the years they've changed the lighting and they've like, it's better now than
17:35it used to be.
17:35I went to games the first year it opened.
17:38And even then it was like, Oh, what is this?
17:40But you know, because it was new and I was living down there and they were like giving
17:43tickets away for free.
17:44They just wanted to promote the team.
17:45Right.
17:45So I'm working at this radio station.
17:47Like we would just get these blocks of tickets and like, come on, like give them to youth
17:51organizations.
17:51We just want to fill the place, which I got.
17:53Um, but I, so I'd went up there several times and it was always weird for me to go in
17:58there
17:58because the lighting was weird.
18:00Now, back then they had the turf.
18:02Now that I think they have the grass now with the turf around it in the outfield, they have
18:06changed some things.
18:06I do think it looks better on TV than it used to, but it's still, it's still a bit odd.
18:11And they're, they're, they're going to build a new stadium now.
18:14Right.
18:15Yeah.
18:15Right.
18:15Cause they were going to anyway, then the hurricane damage happened.
18:19Right.
18:19And yes.
18:19Yeah.
18:20There's been a whole story there.
18:21Is there a game this week?
18:23That's not the bills game that you're most looking forward to seeing what happens?
18:26There's a right.
18:27I think this is a great week.
18:28Yeah.
18:28I love this week for football.
18:30I mean, there are some big games and it's not necessarily like heavyweights, but it's
18:35good teams that a lot, like it's going to tell us a lot or it could really matter
18:40in the standings.
18:41I mean, Jags at Bengals is a big game.
18:43That's the biggest one.
18:44Yep.
18:44Yep.
18:44Right.
18:45Cowboys at Texans.
18:46I just think it's fun.
18:47The two teams in Texas who are one and two and oh, and three, I mean, either the Cowboys
18:50are going to be one and three or the Texans are going to be oh, and four.
18:54So one and two, oh, and three.
18:56I mean, I don't think the Raiders will beat the chiefs, but it is three and oh Raiders hosting
19:00oh, and three chiefs.
19:01And like, I'm sorry, I keep doing it.
19:03Three and oh Raiders, three and oh chiefs.
19:04I don't think they'll beat them, but that's interesting.
19:07Can the chargers finally get off the mat?
19:09Broncos and 49ers is interesting.
19:11And I thought, I thought last night was going to be interesting and sure enough, it was.
19:14And here come the Browns and somehow Carolina got a home game on Sunday night football through
19:18all of that, with all these great matches.
19:20I believe it's the longest standing team that had not really, maybe not.
19:24No, no, no, no, I would have totally believe the Browns.
19:28I don't think the Browns have been on Sunday night football for a while.
19:30That makes sense, too.
19:31Yeah, there might be another team in there, too.
19:33I can't remember who, but I think Carolina has one of those longer streaks that's going
19:37on.
19:38Well, I mean, at some point I ran across yesterday, I was doing this.
19:41All right.
19:41Yeah, I know they play them in a few weeks.
19:43Sorry, I know we have a couple minutes left here, but I was just looking, I love like
19:46digging into some of the kind of cool stats over at stat head and sports reference.
19:50So I'm looking at the NFL standings, looking at the points.
19:55I'm like, man, Minnesota, look at Minnesota.
19:58They're three and oh, but do you realize they're last in the league in yards per play?
20:03You'd last in the league in yards per game.
20:05I'm like, what team can we three and oh, like, how is this?
20:08So I did the, I did the query.
20:09I went to stat head.
20:10So here's your stat of the day.
20:12Can I give you a stat of the day?
20:13Let's do it.
20:13Let's do it.
20:14All right.
20:15The Minnesota Vikings are the first team to go three and oh, giving a only, only getting
20:254.29 or less yards per play in 40 years.
20:30No team in three games that ever had the yards per play that they have has ever gone three
20:35and oh, in 40 years.
20:37The last team to do it was the 1986 St. Louis or St. Louis Rams.
20:43Yeah.
20:44Well, man, they should, their man, their defense should deserve so much credit because last
20:48year they were like bottom five in yards per play.
20:51Los Angeles Rams.
20:52I'm sorry.
20:52They were LA, that's St. Louis.
20:53I'm back to LA.
20:54But last year they were bottom five in yards per play and they still had a winning record.
20:58They just missed the playoffs.
21:00But yeah, Flores is, I mean, I think he's now seen as the best defensive coordinator
21:05in football, right?
21:07Like, I mean, he's just blitzing the heck out of everybody.
21:10He's got an identity.
21:11I don't know.
21:12Is he the best?
21:13There's been, they've had no offense for two years and the record is 12 and eight.
21:16And who's who?
21:17I mean, I don't want to take much away from them.
21:20They deserve it.
21:21But yeah, they played the Bears.
21:23I mean, that's a nine to three, right?
21:25That's a, that was a rainy game.
21:26That team.
21:27That was a rainy game.
21:27The Packers, they allowed up 22.
21:28I go back and look how they did, Buccaneers.
21:30But yeah, I mean, anyway, I just think it's wild.
21:32Like you have a team that has 4.28 yards per play.
21:37They are last in the league in yards per play and yards gained and they're 3-0.
21:41They're the first team in 40 years to have that low of a yards per play through three
21:46games and go 3-0.
21:47Sal Capaccio, that's the stat of the day from Sal.
21:50Brought to you by Jan's Smoke Shop 2 and Gas Mart, where everything about Jan's Smoke Shop
21:53is smoking.
21:54Thank you, Sal.
21:55You got it, guys.
21:55He'll be at the game on Sunday, of course.
21:59Our check-in with Sal is part of our Football Friday coverage, as usual.
22:06And we'll get blue.
22:07Do we see the uniforms yet?
22:08It's blue on white for the Bills, I think I saw.
22:11Maybe.
22:12Okay.
22:12Like, you're going to get your typical home jerseys.
22:14Is anybody wearing a new one this week?
22:15Like a rivalry uniform that we have yet to see?
22:18Ooh.
22:18I haven't seen anything like that.
22:20Let's take a look at that.
22:21Anyway, Football Friday.
22:24Coming up, Pat Hammer's going to join us at 745.
22:28Forecast for the game.
22:29Everything you need to know there.
22:30We've got Vic Carucci at 830.
22:32We've got Flyover Radio Returns at 930.
22:35Rob Ray next on the Sabres, quickly, because the Sabres had their season open last night.
22:39The home opener is tomorrow.
22:41So, lots more to get to as we continue.
22:43Jeremy and Joe on WGR.
