Sox have won 4 in a row! Roman Anthony has his first HR in Boston. Rafaela has homered in 3 games in a row #MLB
Wiggy: "Ceddanne Rafaela or Duran?"
Transcript
00:00Well, Red Sox did what they were supposed to do and beat up on the Rockies last night, 9-3 final at Friendly Fenway Park, and a Roman candle was lit in the fifth inning last night in his first home run at Fenway Park.
00:21Can I also say, Richard Fitz, what a cutie. He had a great outing, said he's going to take the lineup card, frame it for his man cave. It's nice to see.
00:30MLB players still get excited about performing well and wanting to keep that as memorabilia.
00:35When your ERA is 19.
00:39Why do we have to be negative? He had a good outing.
00:42You want to save that lineup card.
00:44I mean, if you can cobble together, there's no concern whatsoever about Garrett Crochet, and I guess no concern about Lucas Giolito.
00:56And I don't have a concern over Brian Bale.
00:58I think you have three guys that...
01:00And then he could cobble the rest together and not be in full panic mode when Dick Fitz is out there.
01:07Then maybe, maybe, just maybe, the resurgence is underway and will continue.
01:13That was a wiki jinx right there.
01:14Brian Bale today probably will put up a stinker.
01:17I mean, he's been every outing.
01:18I know, I know.
01:19Six innings for the last, you know, seven or eight starts.
01:23So, I think when you look, the bats are, you know, the bats are going.
01:26Your pitching is going.
01:28And if you continue to do that, it seems like they'll be right in a position, come trade deadline, where the expectation is you get some help.
01:36The only concern I have is that the whispers about Jaron Duran are getting louder and louder and louder.
01:44And maybe, maybe I'm misjudging the, the affection that Red Sox fans feel for him.
01:52And maybe, maybe...
01:53I think you're misjudging that.
01:54You think so?
01:55Yeah, I think so.
01:56I do not.
01:56I completely disagree with wiki.
01:57Really?
01:58So, yeah.
01:58So, yesterday, I don't know if it was passing or whoever it was, was talking about maybe as many as 12 teams that have interest and that they have been reaching out.
02:10And is it going to be difficult for Craig Breslow to say no when you can look at the opportunity to not only improve in a position that you, at a position you need to improve at this year, but also for next year?
02:27And so, I don't know.
02:29Well, let me ask you this question.
02:30Would you want Duran or Anthony?
02:33I would want Roman Anthony, I think, for the future.
02:36Let me ask you another question.
02:38Sedan, Raffaella, or Duran?
02:41I mean, it's a toss-up between those two guys in my mind.
02:45See, I don't think so.
02:46I think Sedan, Raffaella is a far better fielder.
02:49One was an all-star last year.
02:51Right, last year.
02:52So, yeah.
02:52No, I understand that Duran is off a little bit this season.
02:57And Raffaella's hitting the cover off the ball right now.
03:00Three homers in three straight games.
03:01Sean, would you prefer Raffaella to Duran?
03:05No, I mean, I think long-term, Duran is the better player, but you're also going to get a higher return.
03:09So, if you're looking to flip a player for another starting pitcher or another, say, a big bat at first base, Duran's probably the guy that's going to get traded.
03:18Especially the way Willier came back from his injury.
03:21Like I said, Sedan's tearing the cover off the ball.
03:23Plus, as Wiggy pointed out, one of the best defensive centerfielders in the game right now.
03:27But, like, Duran just seems like the odd guy out, unfortunately.
03:30Right, you have enough in the outfield where you got younger guys and you signed Raffaella to a very team-friendly deal for the next, what, eight years.
03:41You want Roman Anthony up there.
03:43Willier Abreu's back-off injury.
03:45He's been doing well.
03:46So, I think when you start to look at value pieces that you can move to get pieces back to help your team, it's Duran.
03:53603 text from New Hampshire, where we were last week for an incredible finish to the roadshow season.
04:00Red Sox would be stupid to trade Duran.
04:04Yeah.
04:04Would be really, really dumb at this point.
04:07I don't think so.
04:08According to that text, they're from New Hampshire.
04:09Yeah, I don't think so.
04:11I think when you start to look at where your team is and you need help, and if Duran can get you some pieces back, if Duran can get you, like Shyam said, a bat to go to first base, another legitimate starting pitcher, you have enough guys that can get the job done.
04:27You just have to give him the opportunity to redeem himself on that massive fumble over the weekend on that ball.
04:35That, I mean, what I learned in Little League, Shyam, you always go back on a ball.
04:41You never come up on a ball.
04:43Ball hit to the outfield.
04:44It's back.
04:45First step back.
04:46Go back first.
04:47Yep.
04:48Can't have a go right over it.
04:50But he's made a couple blunders in the outfield this year.
04:52Yeah, but who on that team is not?
04:54No, that's true.
04:55But you got guys that you are looking for the future for.
04:59And I think that's the biggest thing right now, because if they really wanted Duran, and I don't know what his, like, contract situation, where he is, the whole, you know, you know how baseball is.
05:11Just like I would think, like, with Sedan Raffaello or Christian Campbell, I feel like you could have got something done with him.
05:18We've got a club option for 2026.
05:20It was a one-year contract for 2025 with Duran.
05:23So if you really wanted him.
05:24Yeah, he wanted them to redo his deal, and they did not redo his deal, correct?
05:30Yes.
05:30He wanted a long-term deal.
05:32Doesn't that tell you something right there?
05:33$3.75 million for 2025, $100,000 buyout for the $8 million club option in 2026.
05:40Doesn't that tell you everything you need to know?
05:42If they really felt like Duran was going to be a big part of this team moving forward.
05:47But to Greg's point, who Jaron Duran was when the Red Sox made that deal is a different Jaron Duran than we have now, when it comes to fans and the fans' feelings.
05:56No, no, but I'm talking about, when did he sign the deal?
06:00It was the beginning.
06:01Of this season?
06:02Yeah.
06:03Okay, so last year he had an unbelievable year.
06:06They knew who Jaron Duran was.
06:07Yes, I'm saying heart-wise.
06:08Like, Greg's talking about fandom surrounding Jaron Duran.
06:11The fandom surrounding Jaron Duran is through the roof right now when it comes to Red Sox fans.
06:14Yeah, but if the fans care about winning, that's all it is.
06:18I mean, the fandom was through the roof of Devers, and then guess what?
06:21They shipped him out of here.
06:23The fandom could be through the roof of the roof.
06:25Wait, Wiggy, weren't you just a couple weeks ago pleading with Craig Breslow to not trade Jaron Duran?
06:29Yeah, I was.
06:30I was, but he looks like the odd man out.
06:33Doesn't he?
06:34That is the legendary Wiggins flip-flop.
06:37No, no, I wouldn't trade him.
06:38Right in front of your eyes.
06:39I wouldn't trade him.
06:40Right.
06:41But you think they will.
06:42Yeah, I think they're going to trade him.
06:43Yeah, and all the, like, kind of all these roads lead to that.
06:48Yeah.
06:48Here's a 508 text that says, if the Savannah Bananas can catch balls while doing backflips,
06:54why can't Jaron Duran catch a ball in the outfield?
06:57Right.
06:57It was amazing.
06:59We didn't get to it yesterday because of the lengthy tribute to the great Lyndon Byers on this show,
07:04but it was, it's amazing how many people went to Fenway Park to see the Savannah Bananas over the weekend.
07:12Oh my God, I would have gone.
07:14You would have gone.
07:14Yeah, like, I think the Savannah Bananas are so cool.
07:17It's, it's, I mean, people rave about it, seeing it in person, so.
07:21Yeah.
07:21I mean, Harlem Globetrot is a baseball.
07:23They do, the All-American Rejects played there instead of playing at the dive for us, Sean.
07:30I'm kind of pissed about it.
07:31What happened to the backyard shows?
07:33Why are we doing it at Fenway?
07:35That's a failure on your part.
07:37Well, they did Fenway, and then they went over and did Lansdowne Pub, I think.
07:40Oh, okay.
07:41Double dip.
07:42So, but, yeah, I mean, honestly, they do do, they do do a really good job.
07:48I mean, they got Brock Holt out there.
07:50They got Matt Barnes out there.
07:52Doug Flutie.
07:53Bill Lee.
07:54Yeah.
07:54The spaceman.
07:55Bill Lee at 78 years old.
07:57Still going.
07:57He's able to throw a much better ball than you or I.
08:00Oh, yeah.
08:00From the mound at Fenway Park.
08:02Still throwing strikes.
08:03So, yeah, but they, they do a pretty good job.
