00:00all right where are you expectation wise for this baseball team well i mean it this time of year is
00:06such a trap always because you come down and everybody feels good everybody's optimistic it's
00:11warm and people are talking about the vibes in the clubhouse and the group so i'm always reluctant
00:16to make almost anything of what happens in these spring games or live ball batting practice all
00:21this stuff but i mean i've thought now for about six weeks that the team is going to be better
00:26whether or not they're going to meet the standard that they set going into the offseason that
00:29remains to be seen because they took this really unconventional route uh to to make the team
00:35better uh they leaned obviously so heavily into pitching i think they still wish they had another
00:41big bat a lot of them were out there i think i really think had they done one more thing
00:46and
00:46gotten one more of these like high dollar hitters the sport would be talking about the red sox as
00:51like a really sneaky or not sneaky world series pick like done deal yeah like if they're not there
00:57it's a failure if they got that bat and so i that that part to me we'll see how are
01:01they going to
01:02score runs i mean i think there are a lot of guys here who have upside but it's not as
01:06many sure
01:07things as i thought we would see when you say unconventional approach is that do you think and
01:12this is all from your perspective but you're around here all the time is that driven by is that a
01:17craig breslow thing is it driven by money is it like alex score is here yep jason veritek's here the
01:24day
01:24before both of them like gung-ho and you can win with pitching and pitching alone um and so i
01:33i love
01:33the enthusiasm but but from your perspective who is driving that organization well certainly i mean
01:39look we you'd be naive to say that there aren't some constraints on what's going on and what craig
01:43can do but clearly it's his perspective he does not like getting uncomfortable with long-term deals for
01:50aging hitters he just doesn't we we know that now definitively right i think all of us are trying
01:55to figure out what exactly the offensive profile that he prefers is maybe it's an on-base guy maybe
02:00it's has to be younger with more controllable time um unconventional in that i just thought look they
02:07can win with pitching they absolutely can i think will you're a bray who's gonna have a breakout kind
02:11of like all-star type season again roman anthony you know to get a full season with him if he
02:16can
02:16be healthy we're talking about a guy with real like top five mvp potential that's the kind of
02:22ability he has i've been super impressed with wilson contraris like if you start to peel it back a little
02:28bit and compare like contraris's production to pete alonzo or alex bregman or guys like that i think
02:35at fenway especially he's gonna hit the ball out of the ballpark he's gonna be very productive
02:38offensively so there are ways that they can score runs it's just i felt like there were other
02:43more simple paths to guarantee that they would score more runs but run prevention is is the most
02:48important and you know we see these other clubs where every five days you go in there and no matter
02:54who's on the mound you think it's going to be a tough out um we saw it with the brewers
02:57that sometimes
02:58you see it with the yankees i think opponents will feel that way about the red sox there's not
03:02going to be a day where you say this dude on the mound is not a problem
