QCL's Sally Gall chats with GDL principal Peter Daniels about Blackall's first sale of the year, with 2100 cattle yarded.
Transcript
00:00Hi Sally Gould here coming from Blackhall Salyards for the first sale of the year here.
00:05They were due to start February 5 but rain could pay to that for a month.
00:11Anyway they've yarded 2100 here, a good run of cows and let's go see how the sale went.
00:25Overall very good quality as you get out to Blackhall and the surrounding areas.
00:30We come here regularly because we like the cattle and like to support the area and the local sale yards.
00:36What did you think were the highlights here today?
00:38The run of cows was exceptional here. There was probably three full lanes of cows,
00:43very heavy local cows that show exceptional weight and condition and supported very well by the
00:50regular processes. Also a little southern influence this week too which is good to see them up here
00:55early. But yeah the highlight was those good heavy cows making $3.90 odd and then the bulls to $4
01:01.00.
01:01It's pretty exciting for this time of year. You don't have to have a great memory to remember
01:06what it was like this time last year. We got those good feeders out to close to $5.00,
01:11the heavy feeders, the good backgrounders were well supported as they would in a season like this
01:15with $5.75 for a run of really fresh nice well-bred wounders was a good highlight. A lot of
01:21nice yielding heifers here today too. Not in big numbers but beautifully bred cattle again making
01:28in the early fours which is comparable to all the inside markets. Probably compared to the inside
01:33markets this week Blackhall's well and truly on par with them even without the freight they're probably
01:38making the same out here. But also a reflection of the quality of the cattle and maybe a hint of
01:43maybe some more rain coming over a wide area could have been an influence on the export cattle today.
01:50No real bullocks to report off but they're all regular buyers present and really great start to the year.
