Elders Ballarat territory manager James Gadd, talks about the monthly store sale at Central Victoria Livestock Exchange, Ballarat. Video by Andrew Miller.
Transcript
00:00The sale overall today in Ballarat was cheaper compared to last month.
00:05Still seeing plenty of demand for lighter weaner cattle, going from anywhere to Gippsland to
00:10South Australia and even still going up north again, sort of central New South Wales.
00:14The feeder sort of job on the steer end and the heifer end was definitely softer,
00:20probably due to just an absence of a few feedlot buyers, but still sold well,
00:24just a little bit cheaper compared to last month's exceptional sale.
00:28So do you think this will continue, this sort of flattening trend, this plateauing trend,
00:33or do you think prices will start to move up again?
00:37Oh look, it's very hard to say, a crystal ball would be a wonderful thing, but I think it's going to be
00:40very season dependent if we get a bit more rain locally and sort of widespread across Victoria.
00:46Certainly I think things could get a little bit dearer, but just people are
00:48probably a little bit hesitant as to where it's all going to go at the moment.
