00:00Lawrence, you just watched that epic feature, and I'm going to tell you right now, he looked really, really good,
00:05but if he's going to want to beat the king of Daytona Supercross, Eli Tomek, he has got to absolutely
00:13turn it loose.
00:14I think that this will be the toughest defeat that he will, the toughest feat he will face possibly all
00:20year so far.
00:23I agree, Ricky, and this guy has seven of them.
00:26So Eli Tomek looked great in that heat race, talking about blowing berms out.
00:31He's going to get eight.
00:32I agree with you.
00:33He's got to go through that 96 with a lot of confidence, but Mr. Daytona, he's here to play.
00:37Big win if he's able to get number eight tonight.
00:39It's going to be tough.
00:40We'll see.
00:42I heard Hunter Lawrence talk about compromise.
00:44Well, Daytona has a compromise, Cooper Webb, because he wants to win.
00:47Daytona said, the best I can do is a second.
00:49He has been second here five times.
00:52Always the bridesmaid, never the bride, but he is looking to change that tonight.
00:59Martin Davalos, the team manager of Quadlock Honda, which is a rider here, Joey Cervaci, on the 17th.
01:05Their fate may come here in this start, so we've got to keep a close eye on it.
01:10Martin told me he's extremely confident that Joey has the race pace, and we saw that.
01:15He came second again in his heat today, but he had a good start.
01:18He told me he knows if Joey can get up with that front pack and get a top five start,
01:23keep an eye on him.
01:24He can hang with everybody.
01:25So watch Joey Cervaci here, guys, as the gate drops.
01:27And let's not forget about the defending race winner here at Daytona.
01:32The scenes here a year ago were so emotional, so special.
01:36Ken Rockson, when this gate drops, will start his 170th main event.
01:42Another three more, and he'll draw level with Jeremy McGrath in the top ten for all-time starts.
01:48He's a win on offer here tonight.
01:50Well, he's been really pleased with his riding so far.
01:53That was the scene a year ago.
01:55It meant so much to Kenny.
01:58Could he do it again?
01:59He's got a win already this year in Glendale.
02:02Another Daytona victory would be immense to get him back up into the championship conversation.
02:12We look forward to this every year.
02:15We talk about this every year.
02:18People come from all over the world just to see this.
02:23Rolex 24 has happened.
02:25Daytona 500 has happened.
02:27It's time for the world-famous Daytona Supercross.
02:31Here we go.
02:33Malcolm Stewart.
02:34Hunter Lawrence.
02:36Great start.
02:37Kevin Rockson's in the mix.
02:38What a great start by Hunter Lawrence.
02:41They're able to hold on and pinch Eli off.
02:43We've got Ken Rockson to Cooper Webb.
02:45Ricky, we've got the top four from what we saw last weekend in Dallas.
02:48Yeah, it is right here.
02:50Man, again, no surprise.
02:51Kenny getting into the lead just like he did last weekend early on passing Cooper Webb.
02:58Cooper was going to try to go for the pass by Hunter.
03:00See if Hunter can get by.
03:02These two guys have had some phenomenal races this year, and they take the different lines.
03:08Roxen the inside.
03:10Hunter Lawrence the outside, which gives him the inside option this lane.
03:13Yeah, if there's anything that Hunter needs to do right now.
03:17And James, he has got to get by Kenny.
03:20That's if he's able to stay with him.
03:22He cannot waste time.
03:23Because the biggest thing he needs to do is get a gap on Eli Tomac.
03:27And that's going to be hard because how good Ken Rockson is.
03:30I was just going to say that.
03:31We'll see how more aggressive Hunter is to try to get around Kenny.
03:35And the same thing goes with Cooper Webb.
03:36Felt like if he was able to get around Ken or Hunter earlier in that race last weekend,
03:40might have a better chance.
03:42Hunter chased Kenny.
03:44The field chased Kenny for 14 and a half minutes last weekend.
03:48And you just look.
03:49I mean, think of the points.
03:51You've got Hunter Lawrence in the lead, Tomac second, Rockson, and then Webb in fourth.
03:55And this is what great champions do is they find their way to the front when it matters the most.
04:02And here they all are.
04:03Yeah, you can see it, Ricky.
04:05Even Eli Tomac.
04:06I felt like he was probably going to be more aggressive because he felt like maybe he sat back too
04:10long last weekend.
04:11So each one of these riders got the anticipation to try to get up in that lead early in this
04:16race.
04:17You know how difficult it's going to be.
04:18I'm going to go ahead and say it right now.
04:20Now, this is dangerous for the two guys in front of Eli Tomac.
04:25For Eli to be sitting here on the second lap, this is going to be a good one.
04:30And two of the three guys in the top three.
04:32Hunter Lawrence, Eli Tomac didn't get the opportunity to race here last year through injury.
04:37They're enjoying this opportunity.
04:39And for Hunter, this is very lean times as far as his 450 experience on this track, Jake.
04:45You remember last year, Hunter went out early.
04:48He sure did.
04:49And think about what John Tomac told Will Christian in Seattle a few weeks ago.
04:54When it's your track, you have to win.
04:57And Eli went out and got the job done.
04:58He took points away from a guy like Cooper Webb at Seattle and Arlington.
05:03Everybody thinks Arlington is Cooper Webb's house.
05:05Well, now the tables are turned.
05:07Eli Tomac has won this race seven times.
05:10So for guys like Hunter Lawrence, for guys like Ken Rocks and Cooper Webb, they need to return serve.
05:15They have to try to beat the number three.
05:17And it looks like the number three is going to make life very difficult.
05:19Listen to the crowd here in Daytona.
05:22The seven-time winner is pressuring Hunter Lawrence for second.
05:26Let's see how aggressive Eli is.
05:28Is he okay with just sitting behind Hunter?
05:31Because last week, Hunter got away.
05:33Guy was able to get around Kenny.
05:34He was able to get away from him.
05:35And Eli couldn't close in.
05:36So is he okay with sitting or he wants to make that pass and find out here in the next
05:41couple laps.
05:41Hunter's making a few mistakes, Ricky.
05:43Well, and I'm watching Eli, and it certainly looks like he wants to make the pass.
05:47I don't think that he is comfortable with just following him.
05:49And if he has the momentum going and like he talks about finding that flow, I think you keep it
05:55going.
05:57I feel like if you're in Eli's shoes, you know, even what happened last weekend,
06:01I bet he believes no matter what, as long as Hunter stays in front of him,
06:04that he's probably not going to pull away from him, you know.
06:07So we'll see how this plays out.
06:09It is a tough night, not only for Dylan Ferrandez, but Justin Cooper.
06:13Watch the second Viking shot.
06:15Yeah, it looks like everything's going good.
06:17Oh, it just rotates forward.
06:19It's a spotty position too far forward, and down he goes.
06:24And that's a bummer here, early in the race, going to get passed by a ton of guys.
06:29And we just got an update on Dylan Ferrandez.
06:31He has retired, which is a shame for that Red Bull Troy Lee design, Ducati took squad.
06:37See, Eli elected to go with roll-offs.
06:40You can see those two little canisters on his goggles.
06:44And conditions like this, that's pretty good, especially if you're behind like this.
06:48You get roosted so much that you run out of tear-offs.
06:52That could be tough late in this race.
06:55We're going to find out how much Hunter has improved, like how the confidence with him over the last few
07:00weeks.
07:00Because for him, he's got Ken Robson.
07:02He knows that's going to be a challenge just trying to get around him.
07:04But Eli's right here at his house.
07:07Very strong.
07:08Well, and again, I stand strong in what I said early.
07:11You can see right here on the screen, if Hunter wants to really have a good shot at this wind,
07:17he cannot waste time behind Kenny.
07:20If that door opens up, I mean, he has got to take it.
07:24Kenny is a very talented, fast rider.
07:26Tough to get by as well.
07:28Not going to be easy, but you just have to find a way in that moment.
07:32Hunter did a great job of recovering.
07:33He got a little too far forward in those whoops.
07:36That bike started spinning back, but adjusted his body and was able to get that run.
07:39And I feel like Hunter's bike looks really good here tonight.
07:44And what I mean by that is it looks really, like, it doesn't look too edgy.
07:49Sometimes I feel like in Supercross, it looks super edgy.
07:52And, like, he doesn't, there's not a lot to give to it.
07:55Where here, it looks a little more forgiving.
07:56These guys have enjoyed racing each other this year.
07:59And we've been spoiled.
08:00We just showed you a graphic there of the five winners so far this year.
08:04Of course, Cooper Webb winning at the Triple Crown.
08:07Let's talk more about the man in the middle.
08:09Still the man on the 96 JT, the points leader.
08:12Yeah, and I like the way Hunter's responded to this.
08:14And what's happened is they pushed the pace back up to Ken Rockson.
08:17And I think that's where the urgency came from Eli.
08:19He's been racing Ken Rockson for the majority or entirety of his 450 career.
08:23And he knows the one thing you can't allow Ken Rockson to do, and that's get away.
08:27He pushed the pace up.
08:28Hunter Lawrence responded.
08:29And now they're on the rear wheel of the 94.
08:33Look at this.
08:33The crowd tells you how close it is.
08:37Rockson, Lawrence, Tomac.
08:40It's really impressive the level that these guys are riding.
08:44But go back to, remember how we talked about Hunter Lawrence all year and how he needed to be a
08:49little better at the beginning of the races?
08:51Look at how well he's doing compared to round one back in Anaheim.
08:55I agree with you.
08:56He's only going to get better at this race.
08:58He'll figure his track out and see if Eli.
09:00His time out on the inside.
09:03Hunter Lawrence had no choice.
09:05That's a heads up riding by Ken.
09:07What I was going to say, Hunter's line before the finish line.
09:10If he was closer to Ken, I think he was going to make that pass.
09:13So Eli probably needed to stop that momentum before.
09:16And he did.
09:17Let's see.
09:18Yeah, how is Hunter going to react right now or respond to that pass?
09:22But that was good for Hunter to stand his bike up straight.
09:25Had he not standing his bike up straight, he could have easily gone down, falling down the turn.
09:33Notice that a lot more about Eli this year.
09:35When he makes those passes, he makes them a little different in the passing.
09:40I'm assuming he's probably going to try to be aggressive and get around Kenny and hope that Kenny holds Hunter
09:44up and get that gap.
09:46There you go.
09:47He's going to slingshot out of this corner.
09:52Have a listen to that roar.
09:57Daytona loves themselves some ET3.
10:01That was gnarly what ET did on that wall jump.
10:06That was awesome.
10:07Drove right through it.
10:08And all that came from that split lane up there.
10:10That's what I was saying with Hunter.
10:12If he got next to him, that he was going to pass Ken.
10:14And Eli saw that and he made that pass.
10:16That's exactly what I thought Hunter might do.
10:20Have a look at this.
10:22Aboard the Red Bull KTM.
10:25There a lap ago.
10:26He got by Hunter Lawrence.
10:29Check out this forward momentum.
10:32Yeah, right there just goes through, just leaves the door open, takes a pass.
10:37Like James was telling you guys, like he's been forcing these passes a lot more than he has in years
10:43past.
10:43And then right here, just goes to the outside, rails the sperm, and slingshots past Kenny because of that momentum
10:52like James was telling us about.
10:53Yeah, I love it.
10:54And this is the difference that I see with Eli this year, is that when he gets there, he makes
10:59passes instantly.
11:00Maybe in the past he got caught back, he knew how important his pass would be if Kenny, he's looking
11:06good, Will.
11:07He's looking so comfortable on this Red Bull KTM machine, isn't he, guys?
11:11I was talking to the crew chief there over at KTM, Carlos Rivera, and he was reflecting on press day,
11:17which happened on Friday.
11:18And apparently Eli came off the track and said, that's one of the best press days I've ever had.
11:23Don't want to change anything.
11:24This is how I want the bike.
11:25And I mean, James, Ricky, do you think we've ever seen him quite as comfortable as he is now?
11:30You talked about how he's just worked his way forward.
11:33He's so happy.
11:34He says everything positive about where he is.
11:37I haven't seen him react like this after wins or even podiums.
11:41So, I mean, it's incredible to see at this point in Chris's career.
11:44No, absolutely it is.
11:45And, yeah, we've seen Eli maybe be faster on certain days on different brands.
11:49But I would say this.
11:51I see this is the most comfortable I've seen him in all situations.
11:54There's nothing that seems like it bottoms where it passed.
11:56When he was on, he was on.
11:58Sometimes those days he was off, he had a few moments.
12:00Don't see that this year, Lee.
12:01Think about his words.
12:03I just love this motorcycle.
12:05And it looks like he loves it.
12:07He's having fun on it.
12:08He won the first two races of this season.
12:10He's got three wins on the year so far.
12:13I mean, like James said, you know, on an average, he has been, this is the best that I've ever
12:22seen him.
12:22He's looked good in every single condition that we've seen this year.
12:26And we have to remind ourselves, this is a guy who could very well have been retired.
12:29And here he is, halfway home to an eighth win, an unprecedented eighth win in Daytona.
12:38Quick reminder to stock up on Monster Energy drinks at 7-11.
12:439.45 on the clock, plus a lap.
12:46And with every step on this track, we're watching history in Monster Energy AMA Supercross and the SMX World Championship
12:54with this man here, the 33-year-old father of three, Eli Tomac.
12:59Ricky, I'm going to go back to what you said in the opening.
13:01Yeah.
13:01We're at halfway.
13:03We're in the second half of the season.
13:04Let's see what these two guys behind him can do with this guy right here, Eli.
13:08Oh, Eli getting a little sideways there.
13:10And I'm going to tell you, they're doing a great job at keeping Eli closer, not letting him get away.
13:17Hunter Lawrence was the fastest guy last lap.
13:19He had a 118.4 to Eli's 119.1.
13:25So there you go.
13:26But again, I mean, Hunter's got to do his best to get by Kenny.
13:31Let's give some love a little further back.
13:33You're looking at second and third.
13:34But how about Joey Savace in fifth?
13:36Behind Cooper Webb, Aaron Plessinger, sixth.
13:39Garrett Marchbank, seventh.
13:40Malcolm Stewart in eighth.
13:41Shane McElrath and Christian Craig in the top ten.
13:45There's Joey Savace, runs top five.
13:48Great ride by Joey.
13:49He looked great.
13:50And he's looked good all year long.
13:52And, you know, some people might be surprised.
13:54But this, honestly, with the talent of this guy, go back to a few years,
13:58battling with that championship with Zach Osborne and winning a bunch of lives.
14:01This is where Joey belongs.
14:03Confidence.
14:04He does.
14:04And he's raised a lot of these guys for a long time.
14:07Some of these guys in the 250 division.
14:09And he's had a rough go.
14:11He had a gnarly foot injury several years ago.
14:15And to see him finally get back to what we believe what his potential was, it's great to see.
14:21And this is not a factory team.
14:23They get a little support, factory support from Honda, not much.
14:27And Martin Davalos and Yariv Khonski, team owner, has done a great job.
14:33Well, if he stays where he is, next eight minutes plus a lap, he's going to match what he did
14:37at San Diego in round two.
14:39And that is a top five result.
14:41Just going from strength to strength.
14:43Here's Hunter Lawrence intensifying the pressure on Ken Rockson for second place.
14:49You can see Eli opening that gap.
14:52This race is going to be won and lost if Hunter has any chance.
14:54He's got to make this pass on Kenny.
14:57Let's see if he can get close.
14:58He probably wanted to go to outside, but that lap rider was there, so he's got the funnel back in.
15:03And look, it's a big deal.
15:05Even though it might not be for the win, it's a big deal if Hunter Lawrence wants to keep that
15:08red plate.
15:09I think it's a big deal for a lot.
15:11I came into this, talked about it on my show this weekend, on how it could be a huge positive
15:16for Ken Rockson or anybody to win outside of Eli.
15:19But if they don't lose too many points to Eli, it wouldn't be a huge negative.
15:23So I think Hunter Lawrence understands if he can get past Kenny and get second, yeah, he'd be bummed on
15:28that win.
15:28But we know how good Eli is here, 100%.
15:33But still, even though this would be a dominant win, it's important for a guy like Hunter Lawrence to get
15:39out here and try to bag a win.
15:42It could be the year of consistency with, again, how deep this field is.
15:48Oh, here we go.
15:49And quite often you talk about, over the course of a season, who has the best, worst result.
15:56And at the moment, that's Hunter Lawrence.
15:58His worst result, as he goes for the inside on Rockson, his worst result this year is fourth.
16:03For Eli Tomac, his worst is 12th.
16:06And will we see over the course of the season that play out, or will it be simply victories?
16:11That determines it.
16:12And that's the thing.
16:13You go back to last year's Supercross season against Cooper Webb and Chase Sexton.
16:18So six points.
16:19Oh, here you go.
16:20Nice switch up here for Hunter Lawrence.
16:21Oh, that was a nice line to the inside.
16:24Uh-oh.
16:24He goes off the course there.
16:26Checks up a little bit.
16:27Doesn't gain any time, so nothing will happen there.
16:31Depends on how much longer Hunter stays behind Ken.
16:34And if Eli starts to get away, I think what Hunter's going to start doing is racing to just get
16:38second.
16:39Yeah.
16:39You know, if he can get around Ken, maybe that hope of Eli's still there.
16:43But otherwise, he's going to put all his effort on just trying to wear Kenny out, at least finish that
16:47second, as he might get a run right here.
16:49Whoa!
16:50Scrub, Kenny's going to be stuck on the outside.
16:53Hunter will probably pop out of his rut to cut Kenny off.
16:55There you go.
16:55Nice work.
16:56Yeah, that was nice.
16:57Great work by Hunter Lawrence to notice where that lapper was going.
17:02Go to the inside.
17:02And then he hops to the right-hand side of that rhythm lane after to block and defend that position
17:08on Kenny.
17:10Did not let Kenny get by.
17:12This is going to be an interesting next lap.
17:15Maybe take a breather here and see just if he can make any time whatsoever on Eli.
17:23Looks good.
17:24Yeah, he does.
17:26Let's talk more about the man aboard the 96.
17:29And with that pass, Will, that will allow him to keep the red plate for another five minutes plus a
17:35lap.
17:36A massive achievement, Lee.
17:39And I was talking to Darren Lawrence, Dazzy, as everyone calls him, his dad earlier.
17:42And just after that first Supercross win last weekend and what he reflected on after that.
17:48And he said, well, I'm thinking back.
17:49And his wife, Emma, was there too.
17:51He said, we're thinking back to nine years ago when we left Australia.
17:54We left everything behind.
17:56And because we believed we could do something over him, we didn't want to not try.
18:28And he said, every time we achieve something, we go, well, there we go.
18:30I mean, it is brutal right now.
18:33Hey, Hunter Lawrence, fastest guy on the track.
18:36He was seven tenths quicker than Eli Tomac.
18:40And that was wild making a pass by Ken Rockson.
18:44And so this thing ain't over.
18:45He's closed the gap with under three seconds.
18:48And Lappers could play a part here.
18:51And this is leaning in to Hunter Lawrence's strength, meaning second half and ladder part of the race.
18:58Yeah, absolutely.
18:59I mean, we know he's always been comfortable here.
19:01It's going to be crucial for Eli.
19:03See if he can respond because I think it's going to become a point.
19:06If he can pull that gap or at least keep it the same, then Hunter will probably just start making
19:10sure he just finished on his second place.
19:13He likes to give him an opportunity, Ricky.
19:15Yeah, and they basically mirrored their last lap time.
19:19So, I mean, again, you're just tiptoeing.
19:22Yeah, it's going to be close.
19:26Just got to keep digging and hope for the best.
19:29Try to time your passes by these Lappers the best that you can.
19:35Oh, Hunter's going to lose some time right there.
19:38Coming into this season, one of the headlines involved, of course, Hunter's younger brother, Jett,
19:46SMX World Champion, and the injury.
19:50So then people are saying, OK, so the question that begs is, is this Hunter's time to shine?
19:55Well, he's showing us that now.
19:57And all the way, all throughout both brothers' careers,
20:02older brother Hunter has been the one to say,
20:04I'm not doing my job unless I make my little brother better.
20:08I need to set the example.
20:10I need to show the way.
20:11And he is the first to tell you how good his younger brother is.
20:14Yes, at times it has been painful where he's missed out on winning the SMX World Championship himself.
20:20But here, Hunter has capitalized on the opportunity that's been put in front of him.
20:25He's shown his maturity.
20:27He's shown his, at times, he is just so methodical about how he works his way,
20:32his race craft, how he goes through.
20:35And so is this the year for him to shine?
20:38Well, if he stays where he is, he keeps that red leaders plate, championship leaders plate,
20:42for yet another weekend as we head to Indianapolis next weekend.
20:45I mean, listen, we're sitting here and we're watching this,
20:48but this is an incredible ride by Hunter Lawrence.
20:51This isn't a surprise ride for Eli.
20:53He's looking at Daytona.
20:55That's right.
20:55This is an incredible ride by this guy.
20:58You can only, I mean, it's still, there's some pressure,
21:01not only on Hunter, but Eli as well,
21:03once we go back to regular Supercross races.
21:06This is a fantastic position for Hunter.
21:09I couldn't agree more with you, Ricky.
21:11That was exactly what I was thinking.
21:13That's why I go back to it's not surprising to watch Eli win,
21:16but for sure, Hunter's, as Eli almost goes off the track right there,
21:21this is really impressive and going to give Hunter some confidence,
21:23even if he does finish second and keep Eli, man, it's gotten better.
21:28JT.
21:29Well, yeah, you know, there's impossible things,
21:32and then there's passing Tomac late at Daytona.
21:35Like, that is what Hunter Lawrence is facing right now.
21:39So you almost, you know, it's almost like a pat on the back here
21:42to fight through, get a second place, retain the red plate,
21:45because everybody knows what Tomac is going to do at Daytona.
21:48But you watch how comfortable Tomac was in that heat race,
21:50the way he's able to move forward in this main event,
21:53jumping all the way into the corners, making one arc out of every corner.
21:57Like, this has just been a banner night for the number three.
22:01This is what legends are made of, and it's going to be number eight, it looks like.
22:06Well, there's some truth to that, 100%.
22:09And again, kind of like going back to you were just talking about, James,
22:13just the quality of second place that this is.
22:16And if you're a hunter, you've got to be pretty stoked overall.
22:20Yeah, and once he goes back and watches this film,
22:23he's going to see Eli pushing.
22:25Eli's taking a push back.
22:26I think Eli's got this sand section figured out,
22:28but I agree, it's a win for both these guys.
22:33Let's give a shout-out to Garrett Marchbanks, running seventh.
22:41Yeah, this is a fantastic job.
22:44Like you mentioned a little earlier in the show,
22:47I think it was in the heat races, James, about how he had a rough go at it.
22:52So great to see you here, Will.
22:54So much work.
22:56Ricky has gone into this, too.
22:58Just talking to Kawasaki earlier on, there's just hundreds of hours.
23:02They said 100 hours a week has gone in.
23:04And we need to give a praise to kind of an unsung hero there,
23:08in particular, test rider over at Monsanity Kawasaki,
23:11because he's been put in those days, too.
23:13They're talking 9 o'clock in the morning till dark,
23:16on multiple days back-to-back to get Garrett to where he is right now.
23:20He was feeling the most comfortable, he said,
23:22and he's only been able to push, he said,
23:24today out of the entire season so far today.
23:27So incredible to see him in this position.
23:29And we wish Chase Sexton to a speedy recovery.
23:32We want to see Chase back as quickly as we can.
23:35There's the race leader, Eli Tomac, is on his final lap here at Daytona.
23:42We have seen bring it home.
23:48Man, eight times.
23:51That is so wild to me.
23:55I didn't even race Daytona eight times at the elite level, I think.
24:00Well, we...
24:01It's wild.
24:02For you guys as Daytona winners, right,
24:05we have all witnessed this man here be the catalyst for emotions in this crowd
24:11like we've never seen.
24:12When he equaled your record of five,
24:15when he surpassed your record,
24:17when the crowd just surged the podium,
24:20there is something magical about Eli Tomac
24:23and Daytona International Speedway.
24:26He's done it again!
24:27Now for an eighth time!
24:30Eli Tomac, the magic at Daytona continues!
24:35Hunter Lawrence has ran as fast as lap in a race, that last lap.
24:42Catch the열豪 идет, on the right,
24:49people left for at Daytona will attack the Mazurian Gotti,
24:50throwing as loud as they are and clearly filled with vaccination.
24:50Attic sight, zdję when theёл these people have done this boy singing до God.
