00:01O que é isso?
00:02Gays down!
00:05Shimoda again!
00:06Oh!
00:07Just like the Heat, Shimoda hole shots!
00:10The 37 of Davies goes down.
00:12He was fighting for that position with Seth Hamaker.
00:15They were playing a game of chicken.
00:18And Davies nowhere to be found.
00:21As he's laying in that first corner.
00:23There he is.
00:23And so is Nate Thrasher.
00:25Oh, Dudney.
00:26Oh, Dudney.
00:26Bryce Shelley.
00:28Wow, an instant shakeup.
00:30Pierce Brown is second.
00:32Next guy in line from a speed basis that I took from the eye test in the Heat races was
00:38Pierce Brown.
00:38Remember, he came from a long ways back.
00:40And before he got hurt last year in that main event, man, was he quick.
00:44Here's a replay.
00:46And it just bottles up right here.
00:48But it starts with these guys.
00:51Cody Shock, Seth Hamaker, and Cole Davies fighting for that number one position.
00:57Who is going to break the latest and just run out of room.
01:03Unbelievable.
01:04The Hamaker managed to not go down there and emerge in fourth.
01:09Oh, man.
01:10So that's the final count.
01:11Welton down in that first turn crash.
01:13And he looks like he's done.
01:14Well, and you think about Joe.
01:16Okay.
01:17And why?
01:17Okay.
01:18Why do you come back?
01:19People are probably saying, man, he's hurt.
01:21The doctor said he was good to go.
01:23He was clear.
01:24He's not 100%.
01:25But at least just come here and maximize the night and see what happens.
01:30Just put yourself in a position and see what this race and how it will unfold.
01:35And look, you couldn't draw this script up any better, Will.
01:39I think he might be surprising himself right now too, Ricky, because he said to me several
01:44times earlier on today, he didn't really know how this was going to go.
01:48All that he knew is that he was physically ready.
01:50And a lot of people were surprised that you said he was back so soon.
01:53He said actually the 12-week mark, which the doctors had originally told him, is right
01:58now.
01:58So he said he did do a lot of training and he's somewhat ahead of schedule.
02:02But really, this is right on the mark to get back to racing.
02:05And Doug G, his physiotherapist, told me he hasn't seen anybody work as hard as Joe did
02:11to get back.
02:12He said he's been doing everything.
02:14Four days a week there at his office, all the training in the gym.
02:18He said if he can't ride a bike right now, well, nobody can.
02:21He worked hard in the in his rehab phase with his trainer, Joe.
02:28And when we saw him at when we saw him at some of the West.
02:32Oh, no.
02:33Jalik Swole.
02:34Where is this at?
02:36Is it after the whoops, maybe?
02:40Yeah, it looks like it.
02:43Bummer to hear that for Jalik.
02:45Look at Dax Benick starting to make some moves.
02:49Now, Benick was actually the podium at the opener the last two years.
02:52But those are also the only podiums that he has in his career.
02:56He is Mr. Round One.
02:57And he's on the charge right now on that white rock star Husqvarna.
03:01And this is where Swole is down.
03:03He looks to be okay at least getting back up.
03:05Yeah, there, top of your screen.
03:07He's jumping through the whoops.
03:08He overjumps that combination.
03:10Oh, and I think that Simonson was going, getting a little out of control.
03:15And maybe he had to pull an audible and just loses it.
03:20Oh, man.
03:21He was in a great spot, too.
03:22Great position.
03:23Looked like he was stuck under the bike.
03:25Maybe knocked the breath out of himself.
03:28But going back to Benick, I mean, this guy has a ton of talent.
03:31I was listening to what the team manager of the Rockstar Husky team, Nate Ramsey, was saying.
03:36Like, he has a lot of potential.
03:38He just needs to put in some good rides here, believe in himself.
03:41And this is a great start to that process.
03:45He is all over Pierce Brown right now.
03:47Shimoda, though, is opening up.
03:48Oh, tripling in is Benick.
03:50He's got some lines out here.
03:52See if he can make some moves, JT.
03:53Well, you see, Benick, you mentioned there he had podium last year.
03:56But look at Pierce Brown.
03:58Think about this, Weech.
03:592024.
04:00He wins that Las Vegas SMX World Championship finale.
04:03And we know, hey, he can finally do it.
04:05You go into 2025.
04:07He's leading the Tampa round until he goes down.
04:10Big injury there.
04:11They're battling with Shimoda here for the lead.
04:14Every time we see Pierce Brown race lately, he's out front, Weech.
04:19And that's the case right now.
04:20He makes the move, JT, on Shimoda.
04:22Shimoda trying to come back.
04:23And here's the difference.
04:25There's basically three races where we've ever seen Pierce Brown get good starts.
04:29The win two years ago.
04:32The opener last year when he crashed while leading.
04:34And now, and he's got the lead.
04:36Here's what happened to Shimoda, though, that allowed Brown to get him.
04:40Let's see.
04:42Oh, that's good.
04:43Oh, he's not able to double before the finish line.
04:47That's weird.
04:49Not sure how that happened.
04:51Had a three-second lead.
04:53Yeah.
04:53And it's gone in a flash.
04:55And now Benick is challenging him.
04:56Oh, yeah.
04:57He had some breathing room.
04:58And now he's in an area where he's got guys all around him.
05:02Can't ride quite as relaxed.
05:03Maybe has to ride a little defensive, block the inside lines.
05:08Much different situation for Joe.
05:10But listen, man.
05:11Joe's composure when he rides, I feel, is so cool and mellow that this isn't going to phase him.
05:19He's got Havaker fourth and now starting to make some noise.
05:22He has joined this party on the Green Monster Pro Circuit, Kawasaki.
05:26He's caught Benick.
05:27Benick is all over Shimoda.
05:29Yeah.
05:29Benick's been doing a great job in that long rhythm lane right there.
05:32Going triple, triple quad.
05:36Jalik Smallwood now here is out of this race.
05:39And shout out Devin Simonson of the Club of X Yamaha.
05:42Fifth place right now.
05:43That'd be a clear career best by far.
05:46But only about six minutes into this main.
05:50Long way to go.
05:52And it looks like Shimoda starting to close back in on Brown here, RC.
05:56He is gaining that composure, regaining the composure, I should say.
06:05Simonson, man.
06:06I was watching him in qualifying practice today.
06:09And, again, I go back to the Chad Reed scenario.
06:13Club MX bringing him on board.
06:15This is another rider that could really learn from the knowledge of a guy like Chad Reed.
06:21Take you from a fifth place guy to a third place guy.
06:25Or, like, there's an eighth place guy to a fifth place guy.
06:28Little mistake there with Simonson, but still in a solid position.
06:32That is Drew Adams getting by him.
06:34Simonson's career best is eighth.
06:36Shimoda is all over Brown for the lead.
06:40Unbelievable.
06:41Both these riders to come back.
06:43Brown basically did not race at all last year after crashing out of the opener.
06:47Shimoda, we chronicled, he's only three weeks back on the bike.
06:49And they are 1-2.
06:51Man, the irony of this.
06:54Both guys coming in.
06:55I mean, Pierce, we've told his story and the injury he had last year.
06:59I think he was going to win that opening round in Tampa.
07:02And now back, leading this race.
07:05Joe coming back from a brutal injury in the offseason.
07:08And here they are.
07:10Into the woods.
07:14He pulled a little gap on Benick.
07:17He's also pulled a gap on Hamaker.
07:19I really like that jumping line through the woods.
07:21I mean, I just feel like it's so much easier to go straighter through there.
07:25Maintain a consistent line and do lap after lap.
07:28You don't have to hold on quite as tight.
07:31Shimoda's got a line.
07:32Let's see how this rhythm works.
07:35Yeah, that inside probably doesn't have the advantage or not as close for these guys on the 250.
07:42Because they don't have the horsepower to come out of that inside and go over the tabletop like that.
07:47So that outside probably is primarily faster.
07:51Oh, Brown made a mistake out of that corner.
07:53That allows Shimoda to get back to him halfway through this main event.
07:57Stock up on Monster Energy drinks at Quick Trip.
08:00And as they make mistakes, Benick closes back in.
08:05But you see how Brown going side to side like that.
08:10That just takes extra strength to hold that motorcycle straight.
08:13And you watch Joe just jumping through there like I was telling you guys.
08:17Jumping through there nice and smooth and perfect on a consistent level.
08:22Just knocking it down lap after lap.
08:26He switched back to the outside of his rhythm.
08:28Not going to try that inside any longer.
08:30Does he have another spot picked out?
08:32He's all over him.
08:33It's going to be interesting.
08:34If he's able to stay right on Pierce right now when they get to the whoops section.
08:40Bottom box is Davies after the first turn crash.
08:43Now up to seven.
08:45Just got around Cullen Park.
08:46Challenging Simonson.
08:49Great comeback for the 37.
08:52As Brown tries to hold off Shimoda.
08:55Doing a great job.
08:58Showing good composure here.
09:00He's got a lot of pressure from Joe.
09:03But when I watch Pierce, it doesn't look like he's overriding a motorcycle.
09:06And putting himself in a position to where he's uncomfortable.
09:10And that's what you have to have.
09:13Benick doing a great job as well, man.
09:15Hammaker close behind.
09:17Lurking for that podium spot.
09:23Joe, only back on a Supercross track last week.
09:27Then rode two days this week.
09:30Yeah.
09:30Think of that.
09:31He's only been on the bike two weeks.
09:33Incredible.
09:34Yeah.
09:34Will.
09:34All right.
09:36Guys, I was checking in with the team over at Monster Energy Star Race at Yamaha.
09:41And just speaking to the 250 team manager there, Jensen Hiller.
09:44Specifically about Pierce Brown and improvements that have been made.
09:47Because we can't hide from the fact that we have seen Pierce on the ground a lot of times.
09:52And that's been his undoing as we just said last year as well.
09:56And he said that has changed dramatically.
09:58They've looked at his technique going into the turns.
10:01Put a little bit of, a few changes into the motorcycle to help him out as well.
10:05And he said that is where he would lose the front end.
10:07Just his body position on the bike.
10:09And then the front end would tuck.
10:10And they would see here during the week in practice.
10:12They said he would see dirt on the side of his shirt.
10:14And we knew he went down again.
10:16He said, I have not seen that recently.
10:18So what we see during the week, if that translates into the weekend,
10:22he's able to fix this lifelong habit.
10:24So we're going to see a different Pierce Brown.
10:27Oh, we sure are right now, Weege.
10:29Oh.
10:30We better keep the composure.
10:31Because Shimoda's right there, R.C.
10:34I mean, keeping the absolute pressure on Pierce Brown.
10:37And I think the biggest thing for Joe right here is, I mean, this is a win.
10:41In my books, in private, you asked him.
10:43I bet you he wasn't anticipating to be where he is right now.
10:48But if he can just stay cool right now and let it play out.
10:54Man, this is an absolutely incredible ride for this young man.
11:00Don't get caught in the hype.
11:02Ooh, nice line by Pierce.
11:04Pivoting there in that corner, double-double, using the outside, not going to the inside.
11:09And by doing that, when you watch that, look at the gap that he made.
11:13And the reason he was able to do that, because you kept momentum around the outside of the corners,
11:17because those insides are getting very slick.
11:19Oh, I was wondering, is that a little bit of fresher piece of real estate?
11:23Yes.
11:24Fewer guys have gone through there.
11:26Oh, this is Davies catching Drew Adams.
11:28Adams aiming for his own career best in fifth.
11:32But there's that big quad from Davies.
11:34And you know he's got whoop speed as well.
11:36This would be a miraculous comeback.
11:39Look at this.
11:40Wow.
11:40We talked about it earlier in the show, the whoop speed that this young gentleman has.
11:47I mean, the position and the posture on his motorcycle, the whoop entry speed that he has,
11:53is absolutely incredible.
11:56And man, he just blew by Drew Adams.
11:59Now, the next guy in front of him is Hammacher.
12:04He's, what, seven seconds behind him, so he's got a lot of work.
12:09I think it's going to be tough for him to catch up to Hammacher.
12:12Up front, clock still ticking.
12:15Can Pierce Brown get it done?
12:17Has not won a Supercross before.
12:19Got that SMX finale win two years ago.
12:22Ooh, Benick's all over Joe right now.
12:27What a race.
12:29Benick, you're not kidding.
12:31Yeah.
12:31Right in it.
12:33Mr. Round one, got those two round one podiums the last two years.
12:36And I have a lot of hope for Dax and Benick.
12:39This year.
12:39And the reason that I say that, he's going back to a bike that he spent a lot of time
12:45on
12:45throughout his younger career as an amateur.
12:49Now working with Nate Ramsey, who is a fantastic team manager.
12:53And just the vibe over there.
12:54I think we're going to see a lot of great things out of Daxton this year.
12:57Talk to Benick about getting back on that Austrian bike.
13:00He said it's similar but a lot different.
13:02He was very happy with the progress.
13:04He was with the Omaha team for two years.
13:06And the bike's gotten a lot better since then.
13:09And he's right in it.
13:10Look at the whoop speed on the left-hand side, JT.
13:13Oh, wow.
13:14Davies is absolutely crushing the field in the whoops.
13:16Yeah.
13:17And he's going all the way back right.
13:19We talked about that track report.
13:20How are you going to attack those whoops?
13:22And these guys at the front, they're all over the map.
13:24You know, Shimoda has gone to jumping.
13:26Pierce is still trying to jump.
13:28And Cole Davies is going tight in that berm.
13:30And then going all the way right in the fresh line.
13:32You can see that paying off.
13:34Well, coming down to the wire here.
13:36Look at all the lappers.
13:37They are going to play a part in this.
13:40There's Joe going to the outside using that momentum.
13:42But it's going to be key for a guy like Pierce Brown to make sure
13:46that he can time his passes by these lappers as best as he can
13:51so he doesn't lose time.
13:53Generally, you lose time when you come up to these lappers.
13:56You lose more time if you're the leader because they're not
13:59anticipating you coming.
14:00So, just like right here.
14:02Oh, boy.
14:03Slows him out.
14:03Look at the gap that he loses.
14:05Wow.
14:05He's in the thick of it now.
14:07And here's Shimoda.
14:10That's what I'm talking about.
14:12Joe going to the inside.
14:14I thought he was going to dive there and make a move for the win.
14:17He's diving to the inside.
14:19Will he revive this line?
14:20No.
14:21He almost went to the berm to get Brown, but it's going to backfire.
14:24Yeah, he messed himself up right there.
14:26Not ideal what Joe did, but I appreciate that effort.
14:30The reason?
14:31If he was able to make that move, it really would have worked out well,
14:34but he ends up losing time by not being able to jump onto that table top.
14:38Is that the breathing room that Pierce Brown needed?
14:41It just might be.
14:43But again, remember what I talked about?
14:45Passing these lappers in good spots.
14:48Pierce is really going to have to race ahead.
14:51Make sure he makes the moves at the perfect time so he doesn't get caught up and lose more ground.
14:56He's going to miss the white flag, RC.
14:58Oh, man.
14:59He's through the finish, right?
15:02Yeah.
15:02No.
15:03He missed it by one second.
15:05There's two to go now.
15:06It could have been white flag.
15:08Joe looking over his shoulder, seeing where Bennett is.
15:13Man, what a ride by this guy.
15:15Only been on the bike two weeks riding Supercross just a couple times.
15:19Yeah.
15:21Again, no surprise, though, at the same time.
15:23Joe is somewhat a veteran of this class, has a ton of experience.
15:28But what can you say about Pierce Brown?
15:32The all-time question, if he could improve the Stars, could he win?
15:35He fixed it last year.
15:37He got out in front of the opener.
15:38It looked like he might have won.
15:39Then he crashed, and it ended his season.
15:42One year later, he's back in the same position.
15:46This time, headed toward the white flag.
15:48And he wants to finish it.
15:50What a run through the whoops right there.
15:53I feel like Pierce and his teammate, Cole Davies,
15:58really making the blitzing through the whoops work out to their benefit.
16:03One more lap, and what an emotional win this would be
16:06if he's able to hold on for another three-quarters of a lap.
16:10Wow, great job.
16:12One year later, would be the ultimate reset for the young man
16:17from Sandy, Utah.
16:20Four career podiums, no wins in Supercross.
16:24The first win is always big, but it is going to be huge
16:29considering the road he took to get here.
16:33Had it ripped away 365 days ago.
16:37Shimoda's close, Benick's close, not close enough.
16:41Welcome back, Pierce Brown.
16:43You're a winner in Supercross.
16:51And a heck of a story for all these guys.
16:54Shimoda back to take the podium, and Benick once again on the box in the opener.
17:05What a win by this.
17:07What a win by this.
