00:52So far, Eli's starting to get away.

01:01He had a full-on shoulder reconstruction in the offseason.

01:16Well, AP is certainly trying to repeat what he did last year
01:19because he had a really tough start to 25.

01:232026 hasn't been much kinder.
01:25But he came in here and got a podium
01:26as he makes a move on Jordan Smith there.
01:28This is a track he's ridden well at.
01:31He qualified well earlier today.
01:32And I think the AP has a podium on his mind
01:34headed towards the main event.
01:35Look at the momentum of Ken Rockson,
01:38last year's winner here at Daytona.
01:41I want to go back to what I was talking about,
01:44Ken Rockson, before this race started.
01:46I think he needs a bounce-back race.
01:48Remember, we go back to Seattle.
01:50He had a collision with Hunter Lawrence,
01:52and he lost a lot of championship points there.
01:54Then last weekend, he hung on for his hard-fought fourth.
01:59But, man, he at least needs to be on that podium
02:01to insert himself back into the championship.

02:24I think the history, and just for Ken to believe in himself

02:30would be a huge night for him points-wise and mentally.
02:33Meanwhile, back up front,
02:36Eli Tomac continues to lead Cooper Webb.
02:40And Eli had a small crash himself today
02:44at the, just finishing off the,
02:46whoops, James, you and I were watching it.
02:48His foot came off the pegs, and it's his teammate.
02:50Aaron Plessinger has problems in the sand.
02:52Oh, it's one of many.
02:54This sand section is really difficult,
02:56and now they've worked on it.
02:57It's really soft, so a bummer for Aaron.
02:59I'm sure he just, probably a little wide,
03:01and it's got stuck there.
03:03Well, and it's really hard coming out of a corner,
03:06going into that deep sand,
03:07because they basically have no speed,
03:10and that's just what happens.
03:11The back end lights up.
03:12He starts spinning.
03:13And then the way it transfers,
03:15he buries the front end and goes over.
03:17Very difficult right there,
03:18especially the sand hasn't dug down
03:21to the hard pack of this harder base.
03:24So got to get some momentum coming out of that corner,
03:27get on top of the sand and drive through.
03:29Yeah, Lee, as you were talking about,
03:31Eli, he had a tip over in the whoops,
03:33and he was able to rebound.
03:35I mean, he pretty fast,
03:37almost a second faster than third place.
03:40But the problem was with Hunter Lawrence
03:42is the half a second faster than him,
03:44but Eli just really threw those whoops.
03:45He's here to play tonight.
03:46Probably really motivated to try to stop this bleeding,
03:49I would say, with Hunter Lawrence and his confidence.
03:51Tell us more about Tarmac, Will.
03:53Well, I'm going back to the very beginning
03:55of this heat race there and that incredible start
03:58because Eli Tarmac started the entire season
04:01with strong starts.
04:02They've kind of faded away the last few rounds.
04:04They've been a bit sort of like hit and miss,
04:06if you like, but this was clearly a good one.
04:09And for a reason,
04:10he actually went to the GoFarm,
04:12the training facility,
04:14oh, sorry, sorry,
04:16the training facility there
04:18and did starts on Thursday.
04:20So he was in Florida, got there Wednesday,
04:21did starts on Thursday,
04:23which is fairly unusual.
04:24He's not usually there leading into the races.
04:27And they said,
04:28what we wanted out of it was consistency.
04:30So it was just starts, starts, starts.
04:31And they wanted to make sure that he,
04:33like himself,
04:34and were prepared to help him
04:35with some of the mapping on the bike,
04:36was comfortable with making sure
04:38that he could do it repeatedly.
04:39Because they said, that's fine.
04:40You can do 20 starts on a start day
04:42and get five of them right,
04:43but we need to make sure
04:44every single one is right.
04:45So whatever he figured out, guys,
04:47on that Thursday,
04:48the Thursday just kind of obviously helped.
04:49Here, we need now to see
04:51if he gets the consistency going
04:52in order to hit that for the main event.
04:55Yeah, I think it was at the Baker factory,
04:57I believe, doing some starts there.
04:59And a lot of the KTM riders ride and train.
05:03But man, go back to that start.
05:05When you watch that replay,
05:06you guys at home can rewind.
05:07We don't have the luxury of that right here.
05:09But I don't believe Eli shifts to third gear.
05:12So he's able to just focus on his drive
05:15and his body position
05:16and drive forward.
05:17And by not shifting,
05:20that gave him the advantage.
05:23Dylan Ferrandes has been able
05:25to work his way up into the top nine
05:27in a transfer position
05:28ahead of Mitchell Harrison.
05:29He works his way through the woods.
