00:01Who gets the jump? Shimoda, pretty good.
00:06Oh!
00:07Looks like Dax Bennett
00:09on the Huntsk of Honor out here.
00:11Great start finishing on the podium last weekend.
00:14Gonna have it.
00:17Look at this!
00:19On the inside, Drew Adams.
00:21Great work!
00:23Yeah, good to see that.
00:24And for him, being your fastest qualifier
00:27is exactly how you want to start tonight.
00:29This kid has had some speed.
00:30He got injured last year, so we haven't seen him that much,
00:33but Drew Adams is here to play.
00:35I love it.
00:36And he's coming up from that next program, okay?
00:38And this is a kid that came up with Cole Davies.
00:42He's seen the success that Cole Davies has had,
00:45and that probably doesn't sit well,
00:46and he's probably thinking,
00:48man, I could be that guy as well,
00:50and he is absolutely riding the wheels off this thing
00:53here in qualifying practice, and right now in this heat,
00:55you can see that determination that he had earlier.
00:58to get into that lead.
01:00Here comes Joe Shimoda, third bike in shot.
01:02Honda HRC Pilot tries to switch back to the low side on Daxton Benick.
01:06Now through the warps.
01:07Look at Joe go!
01:08Still a good run by Joe.
01:09That was a grown man pass right there.
01:12I didn't think he had to run in there,
01:13because Daxton made a mistake,
01:16but Joe was still able to get back,
01:17and now Seth Hammaker's in that third position.
01:19He is too, James, so we're going to keep our eye on him,
01:22but I'm just noticing something from Joe,
01:24and I don't know if you see it.
01:25I'd like to know if you do, James,
01:28but Joe looks like he has way more intensity and charge in him
01:33than he had last week on the bike.
01:35I 100% agree.
01:36Even though they wasn't faster than practice
01:38between him and Pierce Brown,
01:40you could tell coming back from those injuries
01:42to how they looked last weekend to this weekend,
01:44it was definitely a huge difference.
01:46So Joe is here.
01:47Yeah.
01:48Said every time that I'm back on the bike,
01:50it's getting easier.
01:51I will.
01:52He said I have to build my cardio back.
01:54That's probably the toughest part about it,
01:56but each and every time I get back on the bike,
01:58it's better and better.
02:01And, Lee, it's not just him physically
02:02that's getting better and better, too.
02:04It's a setup with a bike,
02:06because what we have to remember
02:06is he only had five or six days
02:08on that Supercross setup there before he went racing,
02:11and that meant a lack of testing.
02:13Normally, you would have had an entire off-season,
02:15and we also have to remember that last year
02:18that bike was a new bike to them,
02:20so they don't have that data at the beginning
02:21of the Supercross season 2025 to look back on
02:24because so much development has happened since then.
02:27So talking to the crew,
02:28they said we're looking more at SMX setup
02:31as far as the playoffs go when we have his base.
02:34And, actually, they said that kind of helps
02:36because we're talking about a track
02:37that has those high speeds in it,
02:38so they were expecting to have to hit the mark here
02:41with the bike this week,
02:42and it looks like they have.
02:43Yeah, Joe's looking really good.
02:45Getting that split lane.
02:46Whoa, look at this!
02:47It's a mistake.
02:48Here we go.
02:49It's going to be a game of chicken at high speed.
02:51Let's see if Drew starts closing them off,
02:53which he does a good job.
02:54Keeping Joe.
02:55He moved over on him a little bit
02:57from the right-hand side.
03:00Shimoda took a shot on the inside.
03:01Man, I'm telling you right now,
03:03Joe is a completely different rider.
03:06Just the attitude on his bike
03:08and the aggression that he has.
03:10He looks like he's riding the motorcycle,
03:13whereas last week, understandably,
03:15he was a little more chill,
03:17not as much body English,
03:18and just kind of putting inside the laps.
03:21Man, he's here with authority tonight.
03:22But you can see how much time he lost.
03:25He made a mistake.
03:25Now he has to regroup
03:27and go after Drew.
03:28And that's the hard part about Daytona
03:30because, I mean, that's just a normal corner.
03:31But things catch you out,
03:33and when they do,
03:34you lose a lot of time.
03:36JT, we've spoken to the Honda Cam,
03:38and as you will know,
03:39they're pretty fired up after last week's confusion.
03:43Yeah, they were,
03:43and you really can't blame them.
03:45And they just, you know,
03:46they feel like they've cut the short end of the stick
03:48a few times on this deal.
03:49Go back to the Jett Lawrence penalty over the years.
03:52Go back to Iron Man, St. Louis.
03:54It just feels like,
03:55and a lot of it's just circumstantial.
03:56They have really not caught a break
03:59with the penalties and the Red Cross flags.
04:01Jett hits the game.
04:02And then Joe Shimoda trying to do the right thing
04:05and loses out because of it.
04:06So, yes, you can understand the frustration.
04:08I think in the end, cooler heads will prevail.
04:11It has been a really tough go for the boys and Red Cross.
04:13As Hammock has got some momentum now
04:16on the inside of Joe Shimoda.
04:18Check this out.
04:19It's going to be a Kawasaki 1-2.
04:21Oh, great work from Shimoda.
04:23Switches back side by side through the air.
04:25Awesome drone shots.
04:27Oh, what a pass right there.
04:29Joe kind of slams into that face,
04:30hit the brakes too hard,
04:31lost all his momentum,
04:32came up just a tad short.
04:34And on these 250s, that's all it takes.
04:36And it was able,
04:37Seth was able to get around him.
04:38See if he can make his way towards his teammate.
04:40And you talk about that pass, James.
04:42As simple as a section as that wall jump seems,
04:45you can actually make up a lot of time.
04:48And that was a perfect display
04:49of how you do that by Seth Hammock.
04:51You know, you talk about these riders
04:53and how you've got to put the pass behind you.
04:55That's the same section that Seth went down.
04:58Now he makes that pass on Joe Shimoda.
04:59So it shows you how you kind of forget the pass
05:02and keep moving forward.
05:02That's what he's doing, Will.
05:04James, I was just thinking about that one.
05:06We were watching, obviously, the footage of the crash there
05:08leading into this heat race when we were watching it.
05:11I did get to ask Seth earlier how he was feeling.
05:13And he said physically he's fine
05:15because we were obviously worried about that shoulder.
05:17Like you said, that previous injury.
05:18He said, no, physically I'm fine.
05:19The bike was just kind of bent up.
05:21The bars were bent.
05:21So he was unable to continue in that qualifying session.
05:24Oh, and that's great to hear.
05:25There's Mitch Payton there on the bottom of your screen.
05:27The owner of that Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team.
05:33Household name.
05:34A ton of success.
05:35Respected by all.
05:37Man, great to see Seth.
05:38He's another guy.
05:39You heard me talking about how well Joe Shimoda is riding.
05:43I feel like same for Seth Hamaker.
05:46I mean, he just got a little more pep in his step
05:48than what I saw last week.
05:50And I'm just, from that impact that he took earlier today,
05:54it's great to see how well he's rebounded from that.
05:57Yeah, Seth is one of the toughest riders out here.
05:59And I heard a little story that we didn't ask how Seth was doing.
06:03We had to go ask the ground, are you okay?
06:05Because we knew Seth is tough.
06:07And when he hits the ground, it's good.
06:08But it's starting to close in on his teammate Drew Adams.
06:11And for both of these guys, I think it would be a good heat race,
06:14huge confidence booster, especially for Seth going down.
06:17He knows he's okay.
06:17And obviously with Drew, if he can hold his thing off,
06:21get his first ever heat race play.
06:23And it's an impressive start for Drew Adams.
06:25And the reason that I say that, he is a bigger kid, you know,
06:30from a tall stature.
06:34He's a little bit heavier.
06:35And that makes it difficult and harder to get good starts
06:38because there's obviously a heavier foot on the machine.
06:41So he got a great start.
06:43He's able to do that.
06:44I truly believe that he can ride up.
06:46Whoa, whoa, whoa!
06:48Oh, he goes off track.
06:50He almost lost it.
06:51He almost went off the back of that thing.
06:52And here comes his teammate Seth Hamaka.
06:54Yeah, the bike didn't like you talking about.
06:56It might be down a horsepower.
06:58He about looped it out.
06:59But a little wake up call right there.
07:01But still, he's pretty good.
07:02If he can get through this next section,
07:04he should be able to hold off.
07:05Oh, it's going to be fun to see this split lane here.
07:08I like how Seth went to the outside of that rut.
07:12Did you pick that up?
07:13The reason he's doing that,
07:14because you can actually carry more speed.
07:16Don't get bogged down in that deep rut.
07:19How do you like the way that the track's racing?
07:21How do you like the way that your concept in the reality is working?
07:24Yeah, so far, so good, man.
07:26Love to see it.
07:27Multiple lanes.
07:28Great!
07:28First heat win.
07:30And Hamaka's gone down in the background.
07:32Shimoda goes by.
07:33You heard the roar of the crowd.
07:34That was why.
07:35I was surprised that Hamaka dropped it.
07:37That's his second crash of the day.
07:40His younger teammate, the 17-year-old Drew Adams,
07:42gets his first ever heat win.
07:45I'm assuming he'd probably try running in there.
07:47A little bit quicker.
07:49Getting the sense that maybe he can get by his teammate.
07:51just lights on out.
07:53Oh, yeah, he does.
07:54It's almost like the inside of the rut.
07:57James kind of grabbed his side knobbies of his tire and pulled him down.
08:02Look at that.
08:03Yeah.
08:04It's been lots of firsts lately.
