00:00Later on tonight, nice bottle of wine, what do you reckon?
00:02You're having a bath.
00:04Four sets of holiday hosts...
00:06Bye, guys.
00:06See you later, guys.
00:08Have stayed at each other's places.
00:11Today, with all the visits over, scores are settled.
00:14Felt like a bit bland.
00:16Yeah, and you're not.
00:17That's a backhanded compliment.
00:19And the payments are revealed.
00:21I am surprised at the amount of deduction.
00:24With four in a bed...
00:25You seem to be quite unlucky at all the places you stayed at.
00:28I'm not sure what you mean by quite unlucky.
00:30Did anyone get a good night's sleep?
00:33I appreciate they had issues, but I think it was a bit excessive.
00:43It's the final day of the competition to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
00:48The rival hosts are assembling one last time
00:50to find out what they've been paid and settle some scores.
00:54Here we go, guys. It's the final showdown.
00:58Kicking things off is Paul Hooper, who was first to host this week.
01:02Let's have a look at the comments.
01:07When guests rolled up to Hooper's Sandy Beach Guest Rooms in Swansea...
01:11Hiya, both.
01:12Welcome to Hooper's Sandy Beach Guest Rooms.
01:15Fritha and Justin were taking it in.
01:17Oh, wow.
01:18It's lovely and light in here.
01:20Look at that.
01:21Absolutely stunning.
01:22Sean and Sarah were bedding in.
01:24Looks clean.
01:26And Steve and Andrew were drinking it in.
01:29You've got everything you need here.
01:30It's all completely clean.
01:33But when they dug down...
01:35That's quite a big stain on there.
01:37Oh, look at that.
01:39Oh.
01:40Some cleaning issues made guests frown.
01:43There's a big stain here.
01:44This sheet hasn't been cleaned, basically.
01:47It's like it's not limescale.
01:49It's just a bit of...
01:50It's just wear and tear.
01:51You've got a bit of mould coming through.
01:53It's in the ceiling.
01:55It's like sticky stuff.
01:56I don't know what it is.
01:57I'm not impressed at all with this.
01:59Come morning, there were complaints about sound.
02:02The road noise is just too much.
02:05I had to shut the windows.
02:07It's like brands at you, aren't they?
02:09But when feedback came around...
02:11All areas need a deep clean.
02:13I think a five.
02:14It was Sarah and Sean's cleanliness score
02:17that ground the host down.
02:19I would have liked a bit more than a five.
02:21I'm a bit disappointed.
02:23Now face to face,
02:24Paul wants to mop up
02:25some of Sean and Sarah's complaints.
02:28So cleanliness, you scored us a five.
02:31Badly stained mattress and dirty mattress topper.
02:34Would you like to explain that?
02:35There was a lovely mattress topper,
02:37but underneath that
02:38was a really badly stained mattress protector
02:41and the three-quarters of the mattress
02:43was covered in a big yellow stain.
02:46The mattress itself?
02:48The mattress itself.
02:49Oh, right, OK.
02:50We'll look into that.
02:52Unfortunately, Paul,
02:53it seems to be a common theme.
02:54We had some stains on the valet
02:56and the other thing was
02:57that the back of the headboard
02:59had hair and bits attached to the Velcro.
03:03We've recently introduced new cleaners
03:05and we're currently doing procedures with them
03:07and that will be one of the procedures
03:09that I'm going to add.
03:10We also had a few cleanliness issues.
03:12The shower head just had a little bit of lime scale on it
03:16and there was a little bit of mould
03:17on the undertray of the shower as well.
03:20These are the things I need to know.
03:21You only get better by knowing what's wrong.
03:23All guests should have a clean place to stay
03:26and that's what we are striving to achieve.
03:30It's just that detail that let us all down.
03:33It's all good information for us
03:35and it's going to allow us to expand our procedures
03:37to make sure we pick up on everything.
03:40Paul can now find out how much he's been paid,
03:43starting with Sean and Sarah's stay,
03:45priced at £134.20,
03:47including the optional breakfast.
03:51£110, £115, £119, £20.
03:54That's an underpayment of £15.
03:57Could you explain that?
03:58Lack of sleep and then just the cleanliness issues that we had.
04:01If you can just address them,
04:03your offer will be more than value for money.
04:04No, it was more than fair. Thank you.
04:07We stand by our underpayment of £15.
04:09There were some significant cleanliness issues.
04:11The cleanliness issues have been identified.
04:13It's really going to help me to develop procedures
04:16that make sure none of them items happen again.
04:19Next, it's Steve and Andrew's stay,
04:21costing £123.05,
04:24including their morning meal.
04:26£60, £80, £100 and £3 and £5p.
04:32It's an underpayment of £20.
04:34Could you please just give me your reasons?
04:36I just didn't sleep.
04:37It is what it is. Thank you.
04:40Finally, it's Justin and Fritha,
04:42and Justin's stay at £132.85,
04:45including their breakfast bill.
04:48£80, £100, £110.
04:52That's an underpayment of £22.85.
04:56Could you just explain a little bit about that?
04:58It's just the cleanliness of the items that we picked up earlier,
05:02but also the sleep.
05:04Again, the underpayment was justified from the comments that you had.
05:08So, thank you.
05:10We've had three underpayments,
05:12and to be honest with you,
05:13the value I've got out of this competition
05:15far exceeds those underpayments.
05:17With Kai Court Hotel underpaying by £20,
05:21Silver Fern glamping withholding £15,
05:24and Northup Hall knocking off £22.85,
05:27Hooper's Sandy Beach Guest Rooms finishes with a final bill average of 85%.
05:33Next to face the feedback are Steve Clarke and Andrew Smith.
05:37Let's get some answers to a couple of questions.
05:39Let's have a look.
05:42When their guests stopped at Kai Court Hotel in Bridgend...
05:45Look at that building.
05:47That is beautiful.
05:50Florida.
05:51Welcome to Kai Court.
05:52Some ruled in its favour.
05:55This is an awesome break, didn't you?
05:56Looking good.
05:57Oh, wow.
05:59It looks colourful.
06:00Looks brand new.
06:01But Justin and Fritha made a case against the interiors.
06:05I expected more in keeping with the building.
06:09It feels a bit more chain hotel.
06:11Come morning, Paul unearthed evidence of his own.
06:14The view to the window here is of the car park.
06:17Definitely an issue of privacy.
06:19How were the facilities?
06:21And at feedback...
06:22Lax personality, not boutique.
06:25The hosts pleaded not guilty.
06:27Wow.
06:28To one accusation...
06:30Disappointed in six.
06:31Yeah.
06:31Lax personality.
06:33Did they want it to dance and sing?
06:35Now, all together, Steve and Andrew want to appeal Fritha and Justin's facility findings.
06:41How were the facilities?
06:43Low six.
06:45Room doesn't match expectations of the building.
06:49Lax personality, not boutique.
06:52Tell us a little bit more about that, guys.
06:54I expected a room that reflected the building, so a bit more boutique.
07:01Not as chain hotel-y as it felt.
07:03That's a bit harsh, six, you know.
07:06It's quite a big drop.
07:07They're a bit too modern for the building that they're in.
07:10Felt like a bit bland.
07:11Yeah, and you're not.
07:12That's a backhanded compliment.
07:15Do I think it needs much?
07:16No.
07:16It just needs a bit more you, more of your personality.
07:19OK.
07:20OK.
07:20I would say six is quite low, though.
07:23Yeah, but, you know, it's everybody's personal choice.
07:26We own what we've said.
07:28We own what we've scored.
07:30And the feedback is from us to Steve and Andrew, not to Sarah and Sean.
07:34I'm not sure that the scores Justin and Fritha are giving versus the comments marry up.
07:40The pair can now tot up their takings, starting with Sean and Sarah's stay, which cost £180.
07:4870, 75, 80.
07:50Full payment.
07:51Thank you so much.
07:52You're more than welcome, Steve.
07:53We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your place.
07:55Worth every penny.
07:56Very much appreciated.
07:58Next, it's Paul's room, priced at £140.
08:04£120, £130, £135.
08:07That's a £5 underpayment, Paul.
08:09Can you explain?
08:10It's just a small, tiny privacy issue.
08:12There was a car in my window when I opened the curtains.
08:14I accept the payment.
08:16I'll certainly look at it when I get back.
08:17I think Steve was definitely disappointed with the underpayment, but I wouldn't feel very
08:22private in that room.
08:23Finally, it's Justin and Fritha, and Justin's room also costing £140.
08:30£80, £1, £20.
08:32That's an underpayment of £20.
08:35Can you explain that?
08:36The value was done on that style of room.
08:39It's significantly lower than I would expect.
08:42I walked into that room, and my heart sank.
08:45To discount by that level, it leaves a bit of a bitter taste.
08:50I'm insulted for you.
08:51I find that quite disappointing.
08:53I'm sorry that's how you feel.
08:55OK, we accept it.
08:57It feels a little bit like they've honed in on some quite small points, and used that
09:03to decide to take quite a large percentage off of the room price.
09:06I think Sarah and Sean are trying to make us out to be the baddies, and I think that's
09:10just because they're bitter.
09:11They're not appreciating the intent that's behind everything.
09:14With Silver Fern glamping paying on the nose, Hooper's Sandy Beach Guest Rooms deducting
09:20£5, and Northup Hall holding back £20, Kai Court Hotel finishes with a final bill average
09:26of 94%.
09:30With half the payments in, two sets of hosts are yet to face their critics.
09:35I brought Dylan the Sheep along, which is a stress reliever from Justin and Fritha's stay,
09:40so maybe that'll be passed across the table this afternoon.
09:51It's the final day of the competition to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
09:56Two sets of hosts have already found out what they've been paid.
09:59Next to discover their dosh are Sean and Sarah Brady.
10:03Let's get ready to rumble.
10:07When guests high-hoed into Silver Fern glamping in Aberyst with...
10:11Surroundings are gorgeous.
10:13Initially, everyone hailed the huts.
10:16OK, that's cute.
10:17This is all right, isn't it?
10:18I could live here.
10:20Beautiful.
10:21No issues whatsoever.
10:23I love a log burner.
10:24This, for me, is what makes it glamping.
10:26But on closer inspection, things came unstuck for Justin and Fritha.
10:31It's sticky.
10:32Because there's a kitchen in here, it's the grease.
10:34And in the bathroom, they cleared the air.
10:36There's a hell of a draught coming through here.
10:39Come morning.
10:40Here, mate, here's your coffee.
10:42Justin wasn't happy to chill.
10:44I had the shell this morning, and when I got out, the temperature dropped massively.
10:48Everyone devised a DIY breakfast.
10:51This is pretty simplistic, really, cooking in here.
10:54But one pair dissed the dishes.
10:57Oh, they're greasy.
10:59It just literally almost slipped out of my hand then.
11:01Fish slice is actually pretty grubby.
11:03So, at feedback...
11:05I'm feeling a seven.
11:06The number of items are holding grease.
11:09The hosts were left in a lather.
11:11I wash all the crockery and utensils myself on every changeover.
11:16Now around the table, Sean and Sarah want to clean up one set of cleanliness comments.
11:21Fritha and Justin, you scored us a seven for cleanliness.
11:25A number of items are holding grease.
11:27The light, when you touched it and rubbed it, it was like grease that was on it.
11:31I don't know if it's just because of the people cooking in there.
11:33Is that the lights that you changed, the new ones?
11:36Yeah, they're brand new lights.
11:37The dust is just like a magnet onto them.
11:40Maybe it's some residue of oil from the manufacturer.
11:44It does just need sorting out.
11:46I'll definitely go back and give that a clean with some white spirit or something.
11:49Yeah.
11:50The crockery, utensils, etc. not properly clean.
11:54Justin went to get a plate out and there was grease all over the back of it,
11:57like someone's not washed it up properly.
11:59I'm sorry you experienced that because that's not our normal standard.
12:03Plate's almost slipped out of my hands.
12:05There was bits on the fish slicer spatula.
12:07We clean all the huts in the same way.
12:10We actually take everything out.
12:12It goes in the dishwasher.
12:13Quick fix is you just have two sets.
12:15As you do the turnover, you take it out, throw it to the dishwasher
12:17and then you always know that there's not that issue.
12:20OK.
12:21But to only score a seven was a bit of a shock.
12:23You know, we accept it, we apologise and we'll...
12:26And we'll go and re-look at the ones that were in your hut.
12:29I'm not sure whether such a low score was justified.
12:32However, we'll take that on board.
12:34Now it's time for Sean and Sarah to count their cash,
12:37starting with Paul's Shepherd's Hut, costing £145,
12:41including an optional breakfast hamper.
12:46120, 140, 145.
12:49Payment in full.
12:50Your place was right up my street.
12:52I enjoyed the whole experience.
12:53Thank you, Paul.
12:54Thank you so much and we're glad you enjoyed it.
12:56Next, it's Steve and Andrew's stay, priced at £155,
13:00including their morning meal supplies.
13:05140, 150, 155.
13:08That again, that's their payment in full.
13:10It's outside my comfort zone.
13:11We had a great time.
13:13It was a really nice experience, wasn't it?
13:15Well, thank you so much and we're really glad
13:16that you enjoyed the experience with us.
13:19Finally, it's Justin and Fritha's night,
13:21also costing £155.
13:26110, 120, 125.
13:30That's an underpayment of £30.
13:33Do you would like to explain?
13:35Your place is stunning
13:36and it sounds like we were really unfortunate
13:39with the issues with the cleanliness,
13:41with the cold bathroom.
13:43You seem to have been quite unlucky
13:44at all the places you stayed at.
13:46I'm not sure what you mean by quite unlucky.
13:49You seem to have a lot of similar issues.
13:51Everywhere you've been.
13:52I haven't found dust and light bulbs anywhere else.
13:55Your opinion's your opinion.
13:56The things that were found were quite bad.
13:59We had to wash all the crockery
14:00to be able to use it.
14:02It was the bathroom as well, really, wasn't it?
14:04Yeah, I had to change in one room, basically.
14:08I think it's quite an unfair underpayment,
14:09but we'll accept it.
14:11OK.
14:12It wasn't a shock based on their underpayments
14:14to everybody else,
14:15but that was a bit frustrating for us.
14:16It was a bit frustrating for us
14:18and I think that they struggled a little bit
14:20to really justify it.
14:21The cleanliness and facilities issues were significant,
14:24so I think it was absolutely fair.
14:26With Hopus Sandy Beach Guest Rooms
14:29and Kai Court Hotel both paying in full
14:32and Northup Hall Country House Hotel knocking off £30,
14:36Silver Fern Glamping finishes with a final bill average of 94%.
14:43The final pair to face the feedback
14:45are colleagues Fritha Jane and Justin Evans.
14:48Let's pray.
14:51Upon arrival at Northup Hall Country House Hotel
14:54in Mould, Flintshire...
14:56Morning.
14:57Morning, guys.
14:58Some guests thought they were in the right lane.
15:01Oh, yeah. It's quite impressive.
15:04I'm really quite pleased with these surprises.
15:05It's got a bit of freshness to it.
15:07But Sarah and Sean had windowpane.
15:10Yeah, I've cleaned them on the inside, I think,
15:12but not on the outside, which is a shame.
15:14And the bathroom sent their mood down the drain.
15:18There's all hairs in the bottom.
15:20You can see the grime on the tiles.
15:22This isn't clean.
15:23There's an extractor fan that's falling off the ceiling.
15:25So the couple decided to complain.
15:28I was just wondering, would it be possible
15:29to get somebody to pop up and just clean our bathroom?
15:32We'll send some up straight away, thank you.
15:34But by evening, Sarah thought their efforts had been in vain.
15:38You can see I've just given it a wipe-over now.
15:40The cleaner did pop up,
15:41but ideally on the second time round,
15:43I would have liked to have seen them get that cleaned.
15:46And by morning, Paul's enthusiasm was constrained.
15:50I didn't have a very good sleep last night.
15:52The mattress was way too firm for me.
15:55And some found breakfast a strain.
15:59Did they say it came with tomatoes?
16:01Also, I asked for poached eggs.
16:03It's a big chunk of shell I've just eaten.
16:06Got some eggshell in mine as well.
16:08So, feedback contained...
16:10How clean was Northrop Hall Country House Hotel?
16:13Some scores...
16:15Four.
16:16That's not fair.
16:17Bathroom filthy.
16:18The hosts considered a shame.
16:21How was breakfast?
16:22Four.
16:23This one surprised me, actually.
16:25Now at the table.
16:27Fritha and Justin first want to dust down
16:29Sarah and Sean's cleanliness comments.
16:32Sarah, Sean, you marked as a four for cleanliness.
16:35Bathroom filthy.
16:37Seeing the word filthy felt extreme.
16:40It is quite a strong word, but that's how I felt.
16:42It was like, wow, that's harsh.
16:44Yeah.
16:45The bath itself was just full of, like, grit and dirt and hairs.
16:48That was an issue for me.
16:50Really disappointing that you had these issues.
16:52Sorry about that.
16:54I've worked in Alaskin for a long time.
16:55Things get missed.
16:56Like, I get it.
16:57However, I think it's about how you rectify that.
16:59We came down and asked for it to be re-cleaned and you said you'd get it sorted.
17:04We then went back to the room to find the bath half clean.
17:07It isn't a normal standard and it shouldn't be what you guys get.
17:11If somebody said to me, I've got a problem, I would make sure that problem was fixed.
17:16Well, um...
17:17We assumed it had been done.
17:18At that point, it was bedtime, so I just cleaned it myself.
17:21That shouldn't have been the case.
17:22If it was me, I would be on that.
17:26Me and my staff pride ourselves on cleanliness.
17:28It was of a high standard.
17:31But we had commented on their cleanliness and so that was the return.
17:35Yeah.
17:36None of our comments were tit for tat.
17:37We weren't here to play a game.
17:39We were here to just genuinely judge people and I think we did that.
17:43Next, Fritha and Justin want to chew over the morning meal malaise.
17:48It's scored as a four for breakfast.
17:50Items missing from plate.
17:52Sean originally asked for poached eggs.
17:54He got fried eggs.
17:55There was no tomatoes on mine when it came.
17:57So, yeah, just not as per the menu.
18:00The set menu only comes with fried eggs.
18:03The waiter, he asked for our breakfast orders and I said,
18:06can I have poached eggs?
18:07And he said, yeah, that's fine.
18:08I appreciate if you were asked, then it should have been delivered.
18:12When the breakfast came out, the fried eggs were overcooked.
18:16Can I apologise for that mishap?
18:19Eggshell in scrambled eggs is what it is.
18:21There's eggshell in the scrambled eggs.
18:22Yeah, it's not OK.
18:23I, too, had some shell in the egg.
18:26I've not tasted scrambled egg like that before, I'm afraid.
18:29It's like Play-Doh.
18:30I couldn't eat it, unfortunately.
18:32Which isn't OK.
18:33No.
18:33Yeah.
18:34Just a tiny little tip.
18:35Just have your chef to taste the food he's cooking.
18:37And you would have picked up on that.
18:39We started breakfast a month or so ago, didn't we?
18:41It felt like you were doing it for the first time.
18:43We can only apologise and trust that it will get better.
18:47It was chaos.
18:50Breakfast didn't go to plan.
18:52Yeah, disappointing, upsetting, but got to learn from that.
18:56We'll just work on it, yeah.
18:58Fritha and Justin can now count the cash,
19:01starting with Steve and Andrew's room,
19:03priced at £112, including breakfast.
19:0860, 80, 100.
19:11That's an underpayment of £12.
19:15Took £12 off purely for the breakfast.
19:17We didn't think that was to the standard it should be.
19:20We took into consideration the steps that you're on at the moment,
19:24but we thought £100 was fair for that.
19:28I think Steve and Andrew's underpayment was fair.
19:31The breakfast wasn't great.
19:33Next, it's Sean and Sarah's stay,
19:35priced at £110.50, including their morning meal.
19:4060, 65, 70, 75 and 50 pence.
19:45So that's an underpayment of £35.
19:47So the underpayment for us was based a lot on the breakfast,
19:50but also on the cleanliness issues.
19:52We're obviously not happy that the underpayment is so large,
19:54but we're also not happy with the experience that you had.
19:58I think Sarah and Sean's underpayment was a bit more targeted and personal.
20:03I appreciate they had issues,
20:04but there was always going to be a significant underpayment.
20:08Based on the experience we had, £35 is fair.
20:11Finally, it's Paul's room, also priced at £110.50.
20:1760, 70.
20:21So that's an underpayment of £40.50.
20:24It was just about the quality of sleep for me.
20:27I am surprised at the amount of deduction.
20:30I am surprised.
20:31It was one of the firmest beds that I slept on.
20:34We've not had any other issues with that mattress.
20:36I didn't have any sleep, so...
20:40I don't know how to respond to that, mate.
20:42I really don't know how to respond to it.
20:44It's really disappointing.
20:47I totally understand he didn't sleep,
20:49but I think it was a bit excessive.
20:51With Kai caught underpaying by £12,
20:55Silverfern glamping holding back £35,
20:58and Hooper Sandy Beach guest rooms knocking off £40.50,
21:02Northup Hall finishes with a final bell average of 74%.
21:08With all the payments in,
21:09it's down to Fritha to reveal the results.
21:13In fourth place...
21:16Northup Hall Country House Hotel.

21:28Onwards and upwards.
21:29In third place...
21:34Hooper Sandy Beach Guest Rooms.
