00:23happy to be talking all things Paradise, sharing it with the Essies up in the
00:29house. Thanks for coming through, appreciate it. So, like, on a scale from I'm
00:33good to I need to nap immediately, how are you feeling? I don't need to nap
00:38immediately. I flew in this morning, been doing a little bit of press, having a good
00:42time with it. It's easy to talk about things that you enjoy. I know, that's
00:46right. I got my girl Ruth over here touching your boy up. Hey, Ruth. I don't want to be
00:49shining like new money in front of the camera. Okay. But I feel good. I feel good.
00:54I'm like, I'm like, if 10 is the best, I'm like 7'8". I'm up there. I'm up there. I'm
00:58chilling. And you look great. NYC looks good on you. I appreciate that. And I
01:03want to know, while you're here, are you doing something fun or is this a hide in
01:06the hotel room and breathe kind of trip? I always get a chance to catch up with
01:10friends who live on the East Coast, so that's always a blessing because I got
01:14family everywhere that I go. So I get a chance to catch up with people. I eat a
01:19little bit of pineapple. Y'all know what that's for. And then I just kind of keep it
01:23moving if you don't. Speaking of which, what is your morning routine on filming
01:28days? Please tell us the secrets to the glow. My morning routine on filming days.
01:33I try to get up and get the workout in because I know if it's a full day, I'm not
01:37going to get it in otherwise. Then there's the protein shake and a bunch of
01:41amino acids, you know what I'm saying? So I can develop or whatnot. And then usually
01:45the drive to work has a meditation that's usually about 20 minutes long or so, so I
01:51can center myself and get ready for the day. Zen King. We love that. Well, let's get into the brass
01:56tacks.
01:56Please sit down and rest that Achilles, sir. Okay, so season two of Paradise is coming in hot.
02:02What did season one teach you that carried you straight into season two?
02:06Okay, it has taught me, number one, that all black women thought I should have done
02:09more to keep my wife from going to Atlanta. That's the first thing that I've
02:14learned. And so you can't win because if I think if I had done more, then it'd be like, why
02:19are you trying to tell this woman what to do with her life?
02:20Right? Anyway, number two is that I didn't realize that people are actually building bunkers.
02:27There are wealthy people who have resources that have taken it upon themselves to make a plan B,
02:35just in case the world as we know it ends. Like it's a real thing. I thought we were just
02:40making
02:40something up. No, no, no, no. Rich people have been thinking about stuff for a long time.
02:44Well, let me get your take on this. Yeah. Let's say the world is coming to an end as
02:47we know it. If you could only pick one, what album do you absolutely have to bring with you?
02:52One. Oh my gosh. Maybe new edition. Heartbreak album. Great album. Because it broke records.
03:00Can You Stand The Rain broke records. That's probably the song that I wore out the most
03:05when it first came out. Well, there's something about like that idealized state of mind that once
03:11you leave it, you can't go back to it. But the song, the song can bring you back.
03:17Can You Stand The Rain is the champ. So we hear your wife is joining season two of Paradise.
03:22Mm hmm. We love a powerhouse fine black couple. What's one thing she brought to set that made you proud?
03:30Rock and act. Rock, she good. Like we went to undergrad together. We went to grad school for acting
03:36together. So she got a chance to show her chops, which I'm always excited for the world to see,
03:42because I have historically gotten more opportunities than she has. But that doesn't mean that she is not
03:48fierce in her own right. Like she just brings skill. She's competency. She good. She good. Rock and act.
03:56But she also gets a chance to host our podcast. She's hosting a podcast for season two. And she's funny
04:03and she's sweet. And hopefully she makes you laugh and keeps the show moving. This is going to be good.
04:08If Xavier Collins could talk to Sterling right now, what do you think he'd say to you?
04:12He would question my, like, why have I let myself go soft? And I say, man, because I tore my
04:17Achilles.
04:17So he'd probably say, like, that's no excuse. You got to get together. Like Xavier is like, uh, um,
04:24David Goggins. He's like, there's no excuse for nothing, bro. Just keep it going. But besides that,
04:29he would probably ask me, what's it been like with you and your wife for the past three years?
04:35Because he's been without his wife for the past three years. And I'd say it's been, it's been all
04:40right. And I wish you get a chance to have that same feeling. So.
04:44And Sterling, I hate to see us part, but last question. With the career that you've built
04:49and the love that you get, what part of your journey are you most grateful for today?
04:54I'm going to say my children. I'm going to say that even though the teenagers getting on my nerves,
04:58because teenagers do that from time to time, but there's something about going out into the world
05:04and receiving a great deal of adoration, which feels incredibly good. And then you go home
05:11and they could care less. And then you just go back to being dad. Being a dad is the greatest
05:18role that
05:18I've ever had and will ever have in my life. And there is something extraordinary about witnessing
05:24your heart outside of your body. I actually came here later than I anticipated. So I could stay at my
05:30youngest son's first playoff basketball game, which he didn't win. And I was sad and he was sad. And I
05:37was
05:37really grateful that I got a chance to be there in that moment of his sadness. It would have been
05:43one
05:43thing to enjoy like the, the exaltation of, of victory, et cetera, but to be able to comfort him
05:49and let him know that it's going to be okay. And that he played great. Right. And that I was
05:54proud of
05:55him. These small moments that go unwitnessed by anybody are probably the things that give me the most
06:01joy and fulfillment in life. I'm proud that I get to be a dad. And I, and I think I'm
06:08a decent one.
