00:00
I never thought gymnastics was really going to be my sport.
00:03
It was something that kind of calmed me down.
00:05
I had really bad ADHD when I was younger,
00:07
and my parents couldn't technically control me at certain times,
00:10
so it got to a point where they were just like,
00:12
hey, let's put you in a sport and see what happens.
00:17
My tattoos definitely have a meaning to them.
00:21
My right side has my Olympic rings on it,
00:24
which I've gone to two Olympics.
00:25
How I see it is my right side is my shield and my armor,
00:29
and my left side is all the imperfections that I've ever had in my life.
00:32
I get to embrace both sides.
00:34
I think in the fashion world for me,
00:36
it's really just about the final statement.
00:38
A lot of people say bags are like their go-to,
00:40
but for me it's like sunglasses,
00:42
like something that's just like an awe factor.
00:45
I was that kid in school who would show up with toe socks
00:48
and knee socks and all these crazy things
00:50
because I felt like fashion really is a lot of self-expression.
00:54
It's developed a lot, though.
00:55
I've been able to really understand
00:56
how people match golds and silvers together
00:59
and patterns and certain looks and shoes and all that stuff.
01:02
I've just enjoyed this whole shoot in general.
01:05
A lot of the outfits that I had
01:06
were definitely out of my comfort zone,
01:08
but I am honestly happy about the outcome.
01:11
You realize, okay, wait, these things actually work for me,
01:14
they look good on me,
01:15
or just in general,
01:16
your creative mind can go a different direction.
01:18
Jordan being the incredible acrobatic gymnast that she is,
01:23
we just wanted to play into that
01:24
and showcase that in an elevated fashion style.
01:27
So we have her doing a lot of very intricate, structured poses
01:30
and going to be compositing them together.
01:33
So just seeing her really express herself on camera has been amazing.
01:36
I love to lean more into warmth.
01:38
I love to lean more into vibrancy.
01:41
With darker skin tones,
01:42
you have more of the reds,
01:43
more of the oranges.
01:44
Jordan being lighter,
01:45
I've seen a little more of the yellow undertones,
01:47
which works well into the warmth that I like to play into.
01:50
And the clothes that we've been experimenting in the backgrounds as well
01:53
really help bring out the vibrancy in her undertones.
01:55
The blue surprised me.
01:57
It was a last-minute game winner.
01:59
We did a combination of continuous light
02:01
as well as strobe lighting,
02:02
which creates this little blur of light
02:04
that really just adds a nice effect to clothes and to promotion.
02:08
My collaboration with Tyler today has been so fun.
02:11
I definitely can say his eye for who the person is is amazing.
02:15
He's done incredible work.
02:17
Him understanding the flow and what I do
02:19
and just being creative.
02:21
I think that's the biggest thing is understanding your craft
02:23
and if you understand your work and what you want to see
02:26
and be a part of,
02:27
then you know you're going to create something great.
02:29
A lot of self-confidence probably does come from a lot of affirmations.
02:33
I do tell myself like in the mirror.
02:35
That's where I'm that girl came from
02:37
is understanding that even on my downfalls and my worst days,
02:40
that I can just get back up and understand,
02:42
look, you are that girl
02:43
and you can continue to push forward and conquer.
02:46
When I was watching the 2008 Olympics,
02:48
I was watching gymnastics and I had told my mom,
02:51
I was like, that's what I want to do.
02:52
I want to become an Olympian.
02:54
I didn't say in what sport.
02:55
I thought I was going to be like track and field
02:58
or something else because that's what I did before gymnastics.
03:01
By the time I was about 14 or 15 years old,
03:03
I was like, hmm, this could be something that, you know,
03:07
I could become an Olympian for.
03:09
Yeah, now look.
03:11
Two Olympics later.
