00:00Hi my lovelies, I'm Renee Daniela and this is Essence Homestyle. Welcome to my
00:05home. I always tell people when you start with your into design, start with what
00:14you love, not with what somebody else is doing or what's trendy or what's popular
00:18and then also think what you want to do in this house. I wanted a space that I
00:22can have community, that I can invite my friends into and host them in my
00:25beautiful dining area, that I could also come and get dolled up for the evening
00:29in my office and sit in my beautiful moody bedroom and just pull away from the
00:34world and be in my own space. So I really took creative freedom and free will and
00:40I went room by room and I curated my space to be for the woman that I aspire to be.
00:49So my kitchen might be one of the rooms where I took a bigger risk when it came
00:53to my decor and design. I absolutely love purples. I was actually inspired by this
00:58artwork I purchased when I was at Leckie Market in Lagos, Nigeria. And so when I first
01:02moved into this house, I popped my artwork up here in the kitchen and that first image was the one
01:08that
01:08really inspired this beautiful deep plum in my kitchen. And then I started including
01:12different accents. So then I added the color-cutta viola marble and I've added
01:16different accents with my shelf styling.
01:19look at these beautiful pink hues and the way they sit with this teal vase or even this one. Both
01:27of
01:27these are from the Temi Koka and Walmart collection and they just bring pops of color to different pockets
01:32of my room. I didn't want any aspect of my day-to-day life in my home to be mundane.
01:38I wanted everything
01:39to be romanticized. I wanted everything to have an element of joy and playfulness. In this house,
01:44every room is almost like a playground.
01:50This is my cloth-ice. If you haven't heard that term, it's a closet and an office. And so this
01:55space
01:55kind of serves a dual purpose. I absolutely love color. I love scenery. And I wanted to create a room
02:02that truly reflected me both as a woman but also as a black woman. I wanted my space to show
02:07my travels.
02:08Like if you look in all the different rooms, you'll see beautiful imagery of black women and black people
02:13living and thriving. I have this beautiful mural. It has this gorgeous black woman and she is depicted
02:19in this beautiful like Moroccan landscape. I love black designers and featuring them in my space as
02:24well from the robe I'm wearing or artwork I picked up in Nigeria. Even this rug is from a Nigerian
02:30-American
02:30designer. His name is Temi Koka and he has a gorgeous collection at Walmart. So this is the latest piece
02:35I added to this room. And it looks stunning. And even this little bench I'm on, it was a DIY.
02:42I used
02:43an old curtain to turn it into this gorgeous bench. I have a fabulous surprise that I definitely want
02:47to show you guys. It is a hidden closet. Okay, from first impression, this is simply a closet.
02:54Once you open these doors, any parts like I have this robe collection, and you walk in,
03:00you will find the original closet that came with this space. All the pieces in this room are just
03:06feminine and colorful and beautiful and really help express myself as a black woman.
03:12I will say I have zero interior design background. I wouldn't even say that I'm particularly
03:17artsy, but as a content creator and an influencer, I knew when I was gonna buy this house that I
03:22need
03:22each room to have its own personality and its own vibe. Welcome to my bedroom. So first thing you notice
03:29in this room is definitely this beautiful, moody, burgundy color. But then I also have this
03:34gorgeous mural, which if you get nice and close, you'll notice that it has this gorgeous texture
03:39to it. It feels almost like feathers. And then I have my beautiful bed, which even here I wanted
03:45to make sure I added some more textures. So these gorgeous cushions are from the Temi Koka collection
03:49as well. You'll notice they're a bit similar to my rug and my cloth face. This is a DIY vanity.
03:55I fell in love with a version of this online and I realized that it's a little out of my
03:59price range.
04:00And so I decided to DIY it and it turned out absolutely fabulous. I wanted it to be in this
04:06absolutely gorgeous, deep color tone, this burgundy, because I was color drenching this whole room.
04:12And just off my bedroom is my beautiful bathroom. I absolutely love this room. It's also color drenched
04:18a little bit. I've got lime wash and texture on the walls. And then I've got this gorgeous mural that
04:22really kind of brings the outdoors in. It's just these gorgeous palm leaves. I literally have my
04:28own little ritual where I'll take my bath soaps, my bath suds, and I will just sit back and relax.
04:34I'll light my candles. I'll put myself a little show on and I will really just unwind. And I love
04:39it.
04:41One of the biggest takeaways I've had from my home decor interior design journey is just creating a
04:46space that like truly reflects me. The person who moved into my home four years ago and the person I
04:51am now completely evolved. I feel like I've gotten more comfortable in my femininity, more comfortable
04:57in my independence as a woman. I feel more empowered in my space. And now, you know, through sharing my
05:02home online and my interior design, I have found the most beautiful audience of women. I feel as though I
05:07create my space for myself, but I also create it for women out there who are looking for that kind
05:12of
05:12inspiration. Now, thank you all so much for coming and featuring my home. It has been a pleasure to
05:17be a part of Essence Homestyle. I hope you all loved it.
